Came here with full excitement but left with disappointment. Just came back from Japan a week ago and Ive been missing it; most especially the food. And yes, I know it’s unfair to compare the food quality from Japan to this location. But I was really looking forward to be dining at this restaurant despite of the mixed reviews. Anyway, I initially wanted to order the $120 Wagyu set but the male waiter suggested to get the $80 Kobe meat seat instead, so I agreed and I was excited for it. I even kept a blind eye for its price since Ive been wanting to get some taste of Japan once again and it must be good with its staggering price but it wasn’t. I even got myself a glass of Yuzu beer which was really good but not the steak. Not even 1% close to the real wagyu back in Japan. I did not want to be difficult so I continued eating and kept trying to get a decent taste from it but nothing. I asked the male server if they do seasoned their meats and he said yes and so I informed him as there was none politely and respectfully. Please to the owner, chefs season the meat. Japan takes so much pride on their food and it shows. Dont shoot the messenger

better than average experience and food! appetizers all came piping hot which was great. takoyaki sauce was very sweet and the inside was very mushy and soft. the karaage had basically no flavour though, it was just crispy but the meat and the sauce it came with both didn’t have an impactful flavour like karaage should have. the menchi katsu however was wonderful, probably the best thing tonight. it was super crispy, bursting with juice, and had a nice sweet sauce on it. i ordered half ribeye and half tongue, and i definitely recommend the tongue. the texture is phenomenal, it’s super chewy and bouncy. the ribeye was really tender and easy to chew off, but that’s it. the panko coating on both was really crispy and stuck on quite nicely, but it’s a shame that they got cold really quickly. the rice also didn’t stay warm for long. my favourite accompanying condiments were the negi miso sauce and the sansho salt — the egg was good with the rice, but it made the food cold so that was a bummer. maybe it’s because i’m used to having similar meals of much higher quality and better price in japan, but this was a tad disappointing. still yummy though and filling!

Google
The presentation was beautiful and it was fun trying different cuts like ribeye, sirloin, tongue, and chuck flap. The texture was crispy on the outside and rare inside as expected. However, some of the pieces had a slightly strong/raw smell, which took away from the overall enjoyment. Service was fast, but the flavors didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. Worth trying once if you’re curious about gyukatsu.

Google
We ordered the rib eye and the striploin. Both meat cuts were tasty. Loved the unlimited miso soup and cabbage. The side dishes were also great with the meat. Portions were sufficient, but definitely on the pricier side. Service was really great. Our server was attentive and the food came fast. The matcha ice cream was sooooo good!

Google
This is a slightly odd review - I very much enjoyed my experience. All the apps, Katsugyu SHOKUPAN Sando was absolutely delicious! The miso, rice, takoyaki, and karaage was awesome! I love it. The service was wonderful. The staff were amazing. The prices are fair. I really enjoyed everything. I can't give a perfect score due to: My wife and brother-in-law got the steak (its not my thing) - they both said it was over all okay 7.5/10 (based on the quality of meat). From what I can tell from other reviews this seems fair.

Google
I ate here three different times, so the prices range wildly from the katsu sandwiches at around $10 per plate to the $120 A5 Wagyu set, which they only do 10 sets per week. I think this is a really good Japanese restaurant, with juicy meats, rice, and lettuce galore. The fact I went here three times in three weeks should tell you about how good this place is.

Google
It is our first time dining here. We arrived at around 8:15 pm and still had a line. We were seated quickly though. Food is great and services were great. Pricing is a bit on the high side, but it is reasonable with the food quality. Washroom is downstairs, so this place may not be accessible for mobility challenged individuals.

Google
CHEWY PRICY STEAK WITH NO SERVICE Steak is damn chewy. The tendons in the steak are too big and strong that we cannot even chew the steak properly and have to swallow the whole piece. And don’t get me wrong, I swallowed the steak just because I don’t want to waste my money and the food. Told the staff about the issue and they say it’s normal. After reviewing some other comments before I write mine, I can totally understand why they consider this to be normal. After letting 2 staffs know the problem, nothing is addressed. It’s like almost $30 for one set of steak and that’s what we deserve? Other food items are normal, but the steak and service is too terrible that we would never come back.

Yelp
Gyukatsu here is amazing. I mean, it's in the name. The meal comes with a lot of different items, and they are all delicious. Walking through the door, feels like you're taking a step into Japan. The whole restaurant has a sense of calm to it, very relaxing environment to eat in. It gets busy here. So be prepared to wait. It is well worth it though.

Yelp
We ordered a wagyu gyukatsu, and a 3oz gyukatsu. It came with a lot of things, like the onsen egg, miso soup, the rice box with the gyukatsu, for the wagyu one, it came with more sauces. I was kind of disappointed to be honest. The service was good. The gyukatsu was crispy. (The batter was perfect, imo). We asked for medium rare and they both were on point. What I disappointed was that the 3oz gyukatsu had some fat that requires a lot of chewing exercise and eventually I had to spit out because it was too chewy. So we thought the wagyu should be better. No. It was the same. The egg onsen was nice but it was cold. The rice was not steamy hot either. The sauce that went with the rice / or beef, was not that hot either. So altogether, it was like a meal they microwaved not long enough. That day was a windy day and was looking for a hot meal. With the food quality given, I felt like it didn't worth the money.

Yelp
My new favourite place to eat! I live no where near this restaurant, but the trek down is always worth it. Coming in, you just know that everyone is enjoying their food and having a good time. The interior is well decorated and even informative! On the wall the have diagrams and instructions on how to eat the katsu! Although the restaurant was filled with customers, the waitress always made sure to check and accommodate promptly. The food/drink I tried: AAA Original Chuck Flap GYUKATSU Zen- even just thinking about it, makes me crave it all over again. The katsu comes with rice, salad and soup (which are all unlimited!), and an array of condiments (the poster will tell you the different ways to enjoy their katsu). Tip: you can get a grill provided to cook your katsu! I prefer it the way it is though. The katsu is made medium rare, and it is so tender and juicy and flavourful. Golden Ebi Katsu Sando- I can never pass on an ebi sandwich so I knew I had to try, and I'm so glad I did. The ebi katsu was crispy and flavourful and not dry at all. Golden Menchi Katsu- this is definitely a must. Although the katsu platter is large, this is a great appetizer to enjoy throughout. It is crispy and not too salty. It pairs great with the cabbage. Mango Guava Beer (left)- this was the most refreshing. The mango was on the lighter side, but regardless, tasty. Premium Yuzu Beer (middle)- this was my personal favourite. It had the perfect amount of yuzu. Not too sweet and not too sour. Premium Uji Matcha Beer (right)- it is interesting. The matcha definitely comes through. Peach Highball- IS A MUST! The waitress recommended this drink and we're so happy she did! This drink was refreshing and had the perfect amount of peach flavour and sweetness. Overall, if you're looking for different and an experience, this is your place!!

Yelp
A friend took me here. We both tried this place for the first time. I never know theres such thing for beef katsu (cz it's usually pork). Nice ambience. Surprisingly not busy (lucky for us..maybe bc it's Wed night). Attentive and fast service Ordered half sirloin and half menchi (beef patty). It comes with variety of delicious sauce. Free refill for miso soup, rice, and cabbage. Overall portion is small (I was not full, unless I stuffed myself with less-interesting refill. lol). Crispy texture, tender, juicy, non-greasy-at-all make me want to eat more of them (honestly I could eat 2 portion of the meat itself. lol) It comes with onsen egg - kinda hard to use as dipping 'sauce' since it doesnt really stick to the meat. So I just sip it bit by bit (like a tea) as I bite into the katsu. lol. Overall , it was a yummylicious experience! I already plan to bring another friend to this place.

Yelp
Finally got to try the breaded fried beef katsu. I had the 3 oz ribeye Katsugya Signature Zen meal, which comes with an onsen egg, negi miso sauce, miso soup, rice, salad, and a dish of sauces/salt. I added on 3 oz of sirloin as well as the dashi curry sauce. They do not stress this, but the rice, salad and soup are unlimited refills. The onsen egg was delicious to dip into, as well as the miso sauce. The curry was a bit on the watery side. Surprisingly, I preferred the sirloin to the ribeye, despite the ribeye usually being the better cut of meat. Unfortunately it was a bit stringy and chewy from the tendon, while the sirloin was tender and juicy. It is a bit pricey for the portion of meat you get, but the full set is something to try once.

Yelp
I ordered the original chuck flap, while my friend went with the New York Striploin. My cut was a bit on the chewier side and not as tender compared to what I expected. When I asked about doneness, I was told they only offer medium rare or well done, nothing in between, which was a little limiting especially because they didnt provide the stone grills. Part of the fun of eating gyukatsu is usually grilling the beef on a hot stone at the table, but we didn't get one with our order. I noticed other tables had them, so I wasn't sure if it depends on the cut of meat or if we needed to ask. On the positive side, they provide three different sauces, which added nice variety. The portions felt a bit small for the price, but the service was attentive and the overall restaurant vibe was great. It was an okay experience, good atmosphere and service, but the food itself left me a little underwhelmed for the price.

Yelp
The food was great. Being able to dip the meat into various sauces and dry seasoning was a great experience. The service was stellar as it was their 6th anniversary and the food we got was on promo. Getting 50% off the A5 Japanese Wagyu was a steal and $28 for US A3 Wagyu was amazing as well. The restaurant was nice and clean. Definitely have to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for a long time, but because I don't visit Toronto very often never really had a chance to go. Went down to Toronto for the rare occasion and to see a friend so I took the opportunity to choose this place for dinner. There is no free parking as it is Toronto, but there are plenty of paid parking spots in the area. We did call to make a reservation just in case it was busy, which was really easy to do. Staff was super nice. Took their time to explain how to eat and what the recommendations were. We ended up ordering a lot of their special dishes, as well as their staple dishes that they recommended. They also had three special flavored beers so we got one of each to try. Matcha beer - 6/10 not a huge fan of Matcha but the flavor of Matcha was pretty light until the bottom and then it became very intense. Mango guava beer - 6/10 again very light taste had a weird aftertaste to be honest that all of us found. Yuzu beer - 7/10 strongest of the three flavors that Yuzu was very concentrated on the bottom. Would recommend trying this one out of the three. For the food, it was pretty good unfortunately the sauce that they include for the Katsu is very little and they do not get refills for those . One big pro is that they give you unlimited refills of rice and miso soup. They also have a handy guy at the table with different methods of eating and different ways of dipping. The restaurant itself was not very loud. We did not have to yell or anything over music or other tables. music was at a nice volume. Definitely do recommend trying this restaurant and I will probably be back. It is on the more expensive side, but it is decently filling.

Yelp
Delicious and just like Japan's gyukatsu. I was so excited to check out this restaurant since it's a replica of what they have in Japan with the cooking stones. This is a gyukatsu spot which is breaded fries beef cutlets served over rice with cabbage salad and soup. Opted for their AAA Original chunk flap gyukatsu zen set and it was absolutely delicious. Comes with three different types of dipping sauces. Rice, cabbage and miso soup is unlimited refills if that's something you like. I came with a party of 7 and we all got medium rare for our gyukatsu, but some of them came out cooked blue instead. We brought that up to the staff which then took it back to the kitchen to cook it some more. This spot really hit for me since it was tasty, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and the unlimited refills of sides is always a highlight. Drinks here are great as well. Service is quick. Ambiance is quite zen and clean. Would I be back? 100%!

Yelp
Came back here a few weeks ago on a weekday lunch around 2pm. The restaurant was mostly empty. I've been craving Gyukatsu since I went on vacation to Japan and visited one of their other locations there! I was seated fairly quickly. I ordered the half half Zen set with sirloin x chuck flap. I was so glad I got 2 meats because the sirloin was so tough. From the first bite I knew this was going to be a problematic meal. The chuck flap was wonderful and tender though. I would dip the chuck flap into my favourite toppings and eat the sirloin with the less saucy toppings just because of how hard it was to chew. Service was friendly. I will probably be back because I need to continue exploring this menu.

Yelp
We tried the half&half - chuck flap and sirloin, and the juu box which is meat served on rice. Both come with miso soup, onsen egg, rice, and the half and half came with a variety of dips/sauces. For the ju box, mixing the onsen egg into it made it creamy and delicious. We also got the karage which was good. There were a lot of available tables Sunday evening, and we were promptly helped. They also have some unique items like matcha beer and yuzu beer.

Yelp
10/10 place to dine at downtown! If you have ever tried katsu, it's normally pork or chicken that is fried, but this place specializes in beef :D Highly recommend the ribeye katsu or the salmon one (limited edition) because they are stellar. Also, they have fruit-flavored beers that are pretty interesting - highly recommend the mango-guava one as it is super tasty
google avatar

Yelp
Early dinner! It was my first time! Really enjoyed it, the staff were really friendly and fast. The portion was enough for me, they do refills on the side dishes-rice, cabbage, soup etc etc ... it was loud ish but whatever it's a busy place on a Friday night, it's not a quiet place. It's busy. It's downtown. I would love to return again!!! It was yummy !!

Yelp
Arrived at 5:45pm on a Saturday night and we were told it would be an approximately 30 minute wait for our table of 4. We ended up sitting at the bar and then got moved to a table when it opened up approx. 10 mins later. We ordered the Katsugyu Signature Zen - Chuck Flap and Sirloin. We enjoyed the Sirloin better than the Chuck Flap! The Chuck Flap was tougher and a bit more raw. The rice, miso soup, and cabbage are refillable which was a nice touch! I enjoyed trying the different sauces, the Negi Miso sauce was my favourite. I really appreciated how the menu outlined the different ways of enjoying the katsu. I also really enjoyed the egg on top of my rice!
google avatar

Jerry L.

Yelp
Overall, a great experience with quick service and friendly atmosphere. Ordered the matcha bear as well as the tongue/sirloin half and half. The matcha beer was great, as someone who isn't too fond of beer, this had a nice balance. It has the initial taste of beer but the nice aftertaste of the matcha that isn't too bitter. The katsu, for the price, is a little underwhelming. The portion is a bit small and the sirloin was quite tough for a medium rare. Taste was not bad especially with the tonkatsu sauce.
google avatar

Thanh L.

Yelp
We came for Premium Wagyu Sirloin Gyukatsu Zen & Japanese Beef Sirloin Gyukatsu Zen . Both set came with rice, salad, Miso Soup & dipping sauce. This was by far one of my favorite meals. The Wagyu was so buttery in texture. The fat to meat ratio was perfect. Service was good. The price was fine for the quality
google avatar

Rainie L.

Yelp
Came here twice and had inconsistent experience so I am not sure how many stars it should be. First Experience - Came for lunch and got the sirloin set and it was so tender and well cooked. It was med rare with no running blood and so tasty. Loved the egg, the rice, the soup, and the sauce. Second Experience - Came for dinner and got sirloin again but was this time it was tough and could I not eat it properly with the chopstick as it was so tough. My sister got the ribeye and her meat was just pure bloody. She ate it anyways but it was totally under cooked. Dinner service was not as busy as lunch service so my only conclusion is that different chefs cooked it. So if you want the better meal, come for lunch :)
google avatar

Alice K.

Yelp
The food was so good, my sister and I finished everything. We both got the half and half chuck flap and sirloin. The sirloin was my favorite. The chuck flap is a little bit more fatty and marble. The food came out pretty fast and the ambiance feels like you're in Japan. The service was pretty good, servers were attentive!
google avatar

Karena K.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The food is so yummy, very high quality. It felt like we were back in Japan! Very good service; we were constantly checked up on. This place is so good we had to come back before we flew back home. This is my go to spot to mention when people ask me for Toronto recs!
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
We went for the rib eye and striploin and they were great! The ribeye was noticeably more tender than the striploin, though the striploin was great as well. It was fun trying the meat with all the different dips and sauces. There's also free refills for the miso soup. Would be nice to have a free refills of rice, given the high price of the entree. Service is very friendly and attentive. They hire authentic Japanese people here.

Yelp
Recommended by a friend to come visit this place because they have good katsu meats. I looked over their menu, and it does have an abundance of meats. They have stuff from tongue, to wagyu, to angus sirloin, pretty much, what ever slice of a beef you want, it is there to be deep fried and eaten. When I arrived, it was 2 weeks after the whole flood. And to be honest, once I opened that door that went downstairs to their washroom, everything was still humid and muggy down there. It smelled terrible, and I really hope Toronto doesn't flood like that again. I understand it freaking sucks, and that the restaurant needs to re-open for operations, and happy for that door they have that separates the downstairs to the main dining area, but they need to get one of those large maintenance fans. Anyways, onto the good things that happened, I ordered the Angus Sirloin. This is one of those restaurants that have the whole box set with the side salads and rice and some other stuff. I like that quite a lot. And they come in individual sizes and portions enough to eat by yourself. Me and my friends ordered 1 box set each and we shared our meats with each other. I ate one of my friend's beef tongue meat, it was delicious. Then I ate my other friend's New York Strip meat, and that was juicy. They all were just delicious and meaty. I had to make fun of the amount of meats they had offered on their menu. Everything was just meat. Anyways, I will come back in the future to try other stuff, and I did see their seasonal menu, it was a very cute addition. And it added a more personal flair. Will be back next time for more meats!!

Yelp
It was quite a small restaurant and we had a large group so we had to split up. The food was tasty and it came was sauces, my favorite part was the onsen egg. Pricey, but worth a try.
google avatar

Yelp
I like the aesthetic of this restaurant, brings back fond memories of my time in japan. I was seated right away for saturday lunch (I came right when they opened). I got the prime ribeye, medium rare. Overall it was pretty good. I was a little sad they didn't have onsen egg though.
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
Ended up here on a cold day, had no idea they only served one thing lol. Ended up getting the basic waygu and it was delicious. Liked all the dipping sauces, didn't realize the egg was for dipping and dropped it on my rice. I def enjoyed it and would come back if in the area again.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on a Saturday night and there were a couple of parties in front of us in line. It was quite busy so there wasn't any hostess ready to tend to the line formed ahead of us. Once we put our name down, we probably waited for around 30 minutes before getting seated. The gyukatsu set comes with curry, miso soup, onsen egg, rice, and cole slaw. Sauces include a soy sauce, gyukatsu sauce (my favorite), and salt. For the meat, we ordered four different types and tried them out family style: *aaa original chuck flap *angus sirloin: one of my favs, the meat was so soft and fatty *australian wagyu short rib: also one of my favorites *tajima wagyu We also ordered the takoyaki and ebi sandwich. The sandwich bread was perfectly toasted and crispy. Both appetizers were really good! I would recommend trying the gyukatsu sets here if you haven't.

Yelp
Had an upset stomach pretty much right after eating and won't be going back again. Service was a little slow but the servers were very nice.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a quick dinner stop on my trip to Canada. Got the ribeye and sirloin set that came with rice, cabbage, miso soup, and an egg dip with other sauces. In addition we got the karaage which was not bad but also nothing too extraordinary exquisite. The black angus sirloin in my opinion was better than the ribeye, but both were great still. Great flavor pairing with the sauce, nice light and crispy and tender yet a little chewy. The meats were cooked on the more rarer-mid rare side so if you're not a fan of that there are other dishes options that you can try out. Busy but did not have to wait. Definitely would come try it out and experience it.
google avatar

Rui M.

Yelp
The first time I tried to go here I wasn't able to get seated as they were at capacity and there were issues in the kitchen. Luckily the second time I went I was seat immediately and I was able to enjoy a nice dinner. The interior is nice, it is all wood with small decorative pieces on the wall. I ordered the classic combo which came with the Katsugyu on top of a bed of rice, miso soup, some vegetables and an egg side dish. Overall, the food is pretty good. I honestly was expecting a little more. The meat wasn't super juicy and a little tough but it filled my steak craving. It's definitely somewhere I would try out at least once. I went for dinner, but I heard some of the lunch combos are also good and perhaps better priced.

Yelp
This spot was on my bucket list of places to visit for awhile due to their hype on social media. I came in on a regular weekday a bit past the lunch rush hour so it wasn't too busy. I ended going for their popular Triple A Chuck Flap Katsugyu as a safe option. Triple A Chuck Flap Katsugyu: This came with salad, miso soup, onsen egg, wasabi and a variety of different sauces. There are instructions beside the table on how to eat it. The meat was decent quality and came as medium rare. Unfortunately, I didn't find it really outstanding, the meat was a bit tough to chew at times. This was a decent meal but wasn't really worth the hype to wait in long lines for. The place is a bit on the medium size so ideally come for small groups. The service was really friendly and attentive. The price point is a bit more on the higher end for katsu ($25+ price range) so, I would put it a more special occasion meal. It was a good one-time experience but wouldn't go out of my way for it again.
google avatar

Jeslyn X.

Yelp
We tried the Australian Wagyu Short Rib Zen. The gyukatsu was smaller than what we expected from looking at the menu image - the meat-plate ratio was off. Wagyu katsu, turned out that it's not really my thing but was nice to try. Spinach tasted good. My friend also had shrimp sando and she liked it. Service was very good. The staff confused about sweeten vs. unsweetened tea but acknowledged the mistake immediately and offered a new beverage. Cozy ambience, has many booth inside. Food (quality, presentation) - 3/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - NA/5 Ambience (interior, cleanness) - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Value - 3/5

Yelp
Very busy place and won't take reservations for dinner. First come first serve and just walk in early. Around 5:30PM will be okay. We ordered sirloin, chuck flap, and tongue. All dinner sets came with miso soup, hot spring egg, and Japanese rice. Good portions, good taste. It was just too busy at night time and made you feel you were in a rush. The waitresses were nice enough and didn't hurry us as we got a group of 8 people. But there were just a lot of people swamped at the door to intensify my nerves. Perhaps that's a perfectly normal downtown GTA atmosphere. I rather go for a cozy place with a less rush-hour vibe, so that I could take the time to enjoy my dinner on a Saturday night.

Yelp
Randomly found this place on IG while we were in Toronto last month. We traveled in from the US so we were pleasantly surprised to see the pricing for this place!! The currency exchange worked pretty favorably for us here. The steaks were cooked to perfection and were all so delicious! My wife couldn't finish her portion so I got to finish hers too!!! Very very good value and portion here. In comparison, I've had a similar dish in NYC for about $40 and it didn't come with all the little extras and didn't taste anywhere near as good. The staff was very friendly as well and answered any and all questions we had. We were stoked to find this place as it was definitely one of the better meals we had in Toronto. If you're visiting the downtown are, this is a must visit!!!

Yelp
Came on a long weekend night 5:30PM, the restaurant is pretty full but we seem to have grabbed the last spot for 2. I craved beef tongue so I decided to go with a half & half with chuck flap and tongue. The wait for my order was not long, the servers were informative and gave some simple instructions on how to enjoy the meal. There were a lot of condiments that came along with the set, making many ways to enjoy the cuts and all very unique, so the whole meal never got boring. The meat itself was not seasoned, so it really relies on the sauces and condiments to bring out the flavour. Both cuts have light and crispy breaded crust, the chuck flap is very tender, however the tongue was pretty chewy and not really my thing. Overall I really enjoyed the meal, the price is on the higher side so I'd probably only come on special occasions, but still looking forward to trying out the other cuts offered on the menu in the future.

Yelp
Great experience, pleasant atmosphere, good presentation , reasonable pricing, clean and cozy

Yelp
Delicious! I love the beef katsu dishes here. I've tried 5 different cuts so far and my preferred is the chuck. Beef is flavourful and tender and the breading is crisp. Definitely try it out with all the sauces - nice to have the variety and they taste great!

Yelp
August 31, 2022 - I've been here once before by myself and I had to go back. This time I went with a friend. We ordered from the Katsugyu Signature Zen menu: Black Angus Sirloin USDA PRIME Ribeye Rich Umami Soy Gyukatsu Everything was amazing! The Black Angus Sirloin was a bit chewy, but it was very good. The USDA PRIME Ribeye had me like you don't know what you did, did to me. You're body lightweight speaks to me ... lmaoo anyways it was so soft and good gosh I'll need to try different meats next time. All the dips/sauces they give to eat with the meat are amazing! They all work so well separate or together. We were so full from our plates we couldn't eat the Rich Umami Soy Gyukatsu, so I took it home and ate it the next day. I didn't have any of the sauces but I did have it with some horseradish mayo :D and it was so yummy! The staff were all nice and I definitely will be back with more friends or who knows maybe another solo trip.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant after my heard about it from some Friends and thru social media. We were around the downtown Toronto area and visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening around 5:30pm. I ordered the USDA Prime Ribeye Gyukatsu Zen 6oz as well as the Crispy Aji fry and Tofu and House Special Sesame Spinach. Servers were all very attentive and friendly, complimentary still water provided to all patrons. The appetizers came promptly with the House Special Sesame Spinach arriving first and the the Crispy Aji fry and Tofu. Two pieces of fried fish and 10 very neatly uniform sized tofu squares. We enjoyed the fried fish and tofu dish. Proper amount of seasoning and perfect crispness achieved on the items. The main course arrived with my USDA Prime Ribeye 6oz. Included was rice, miso soup, cabbage salad and the various dips for the beef. The meal was good but I don't think it justifies all the hype and that it's a must try. Shortly after our sitting the line up and waiting area was getting very long. I'm glad I didn't make visiting this restaurant a objective of my downtown Toronto visit yesterday and more of a ah, this is the restaurants let's try to go sort of visit.

Yelp
Over hyped Kyoto style beef katsu spot... Maybe my experience was a one off but I honestly did not enjoy my time here. The katsus were really mediocre since they were pretty much cold (I'm assuming they fried a bunch & left them out on a tray). We ordered the Chuck Flap & the Black Angus Sirloin sets and for a lack of a better description of the katsus... tiktoker cooks can make a crispier crust than what you get here lol don't be fooled by the pics but our katsus were actually really soggy The decor here is cute though and I see that they're trying to incorporate the Japanese theme throughout the restaurant. However, I was really turned off by tons of tiny flies in the dining area (some on the table, seats, in the dipping sauces & just flying around) I can't imagine how bad the fly situation is in the kitchen... Even with the addition of all the sides & sauces to go with the katsu sets I can't justify the price or coming back here. Everything was subpar for us. And while Katsuya and Browns Donkatsu don't really make "Kyoto" style beef katsus I think they have way better katsus there

Yelp
It's been a long time since I've been here, but the quality seems to have stayed fairly the same. The attention to detail + quality of the meat and panko makes this Katsu place stand out. As for the preparation time to order and bring to the table, it's fairly standard. Got a side of Takoyaki, not the best I've ever had, but still in the realm of good Takoyaki to share. The servers and chefs here are wonderfully delightful so that's a plus. It offers a nice cozy and intimate experience depending on how many people you dine-in with. As with every other restaurant, shrinkflation hit hard, so the prices tanked through the roof without offering an increase in either quantity or quality of something, which is why it's missing a star. Total damage = ~$80 (after 15% Tip).

Yelp
I knew for a while that Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu have opened their first North America location in Toronto but only until recent I have a chance to this restaurant. This is my first time having Gyukatsu and I am super excited. I already knew this restaurant is super crowned. Therefore, I arrived when they opened 12 PM. After a while, this place is full and the waiting time for the next available table is one hour. Let explore more about their Gyukatsu. I originally plan to order their Tajima WAGYU GYUKATSU Zen but I changed my mind to order the Yokubari Gozen [Limited Quantity] instead. This daily limited set included Ribeye, Chuck Flap, Tongue, and Sirloin. I was very surprised I like the Ribeye the least, as usually it is the more flavourful cut of steak. Instead, I liked the Sirloin and Chuck Flap the most. Especially the Sirloin, which have a pronounce beef flavours that you don't expect from a typically Sirloin steak. I believe the reason why leaner cuts of beef tasted better is due to the Gyukatsu cooking method, which cutlet deep fried the outer layer of the steak but the inside is still raw. Therefore, the fat marble of the steak (Ribeye in this case) did not melt and not releasing the meat fat flavours. Good thing I did not order the Tajima WAGYU GYUKATSU Zen in the first place. I am not a beer drinker but I am curious to try their Premium Matcha Beer. I am surprise how light and refreshing this beer tasted. It tasted more like Ale then Draft Beer. I also ordered their Crispy AJI FRY & Tofu. It tasted okay but little bit of fishy taste. I really love this restaurant and I will definitely come again the next time I am visiting downtown.

Yelp
Craving gyukatsu often after visiting Japan. The only restaurant I found in Toronto that does it and it really did take me back. I recommend the Black Angus Sirloin Gyukatsu, super tender and juicy. The AAA Original Chuck Flap Gyukatsu was a bit chewy. Crispy, high quality beef and great sauces. Very filling and delicious meal. Service is awesome and restaurant is cozy. Yelp
good katsu, friendly service, and moderate size space. I enjoyed my meal here and the katsu set will fill you up. the matcha beer was just okay imo. I think ippudo in new york had a better one but it's still worth a try.

Yelp
Overall their katsugyu were decent. Main flavour comes from all the different condiments on the side. The steak itself was not seasoned. The batter were falling apart. Their suggested medium rare were ok but still find it a bit too raw. The ribeye I've ordered were a bit chewy. Since just coming back from Japan I find this location is ok but overall it's not a bad restaurant at all.

Yelp
I had heard alot about this spot and finally got the chance to try. This is my first time having a streak this way. Personally, I much prefer donkatsu. Although it was supposed to be medium rare, it ended up on a little bit of the rare side. It didn't naturally have a ton of flavour and the dips did alot of the heavy lifting. I do enjoy the different little soup and egg. The karaage was excellent, crispy but super moist on the inside!! It also came with a delicious dip. Overall, not my cup of tea, but definitely worth a try for the experience!

Yelp
Tonkatsu is a common Japanese dish. Here they do guykatsu - deep fried beef (instead of pork). They get 2.5 stars. Got the Zen with 5 sauces, with chuck flap & black angus sirloin. Also had curry. The beef & sauces were decent. The medium rare is actually rare. It was hard to chew. Luckily it was cut quite small. The miso soup was decent. The cabbage dressing was very mild.

Yelp
"Every bite is another sensation and experience" - this is the description on their website, and I couldn't agree more. Aside from the high-quality AAA beef, you get a variety of sauces and condiments so you can discover a new flavour through each combination. Mix it up with the onsen egg or miso sauce! Every bite is different. I had the chuck flap and shared the Takoyaki appetizer with someone else. The meat was tender and fried to perfection, like melting in your mouth. Takoyaki was authentic but the octopus could be bigger. Prices are acceptable for the high quality meal and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat on the plate. The beef is meant to be enjoyed rather raw. Their definition of medium rare is not the same as steak (it's more like rare). However, if you want to eat anything more cooked than medium rare, why would you come here?

Yelp
I brought several friends here and each person always had a positive experience! Food: When I first came here I was surprised the beef katsu was not warm and later learned it is served at best room temperature or slightly warm. My absolute favourite menu item is their Golden Menchi Curry Juu - two juicy Angus beef patties with a rich dashi-based curry. They have held the secret to elevating minced meat patties - moist and juiciness maintained on the inside with the crunchy bread crumb cover. I usually order the Katsugyu Half & Half set where you have the option to mix and match two different cuts of beef. I did once get the golden menchi as one of the cuts of beef options which I highly recommend if available! Each order comes with a side of thinly sliced iceberg cabbage, miso soup, and an onsen egg in a soy broth. The cuts of beef katsu come with three different sauces. Service: The staff are friendly and quick to respond. The restaurant is kept neat and clean and is well lit. Great place to eat solo or for a group of 2-6. Pricing: Well worth the dining experience, each portion is just right and won't make your stomach overly bloated. They have lunch specials on the weekday and promotions sometimes during holiday weekends, keep an eye out for those on their IG stories!

Yelp
Reigning from Kyoto, Japan, this place serves juicy and tender fried beef cutlets (gyukatsu). This is my go-to spot for gyukatsu and I am glad that the quality of the food has remained high since the last time I came four years back. This restaurant serves a variety of cuts, from beef tongue to flank, including traditional Japanese sides like takoyaki. One thing I found to be very unique for this place is the dipping options as the cutlet is server with various sauces, and even an onsen egg. I highly recommend getting the half/half combo where you can choose two types of katsus for more coverage. My friends and I got: Takoyaki Half/Half Sirloin and Golden Menchi Katsu Zen AAA Original Chuck Flap - Gyukatsu Zen Half/Half Ribeye and Sirloin Gyukatsu Zen

Yelp
We were walking around downtown and wanted to try something different and unique (but not too different) for lunch. After searching yelp, we came across this place that servers gyukatsu (Japanese deep fried beef cutlet). I have had tonkatsu (Japanese deep fried port cutlet) several times, but never gyukatsu. This restaurant is probably the only one of its kind in the GTA that specializes in gyukatsu. It is part of a larger worldwide franchise, and this location is the first and only location outside of Asia, let alone Canada. 1 X Golden Menchi Curry Juu (Angus beef Menchi katsu in Curry Sauce) 1 X Ribeye Gyukatsu and Golden Menchi Katsu Zen (Ribeye beef and beef Menchi katsu) 1 X Special Snshoku Juu (Groupd beef, egg, and vegetables on rice) 1 X Katsugyu Takoyaki 1 X Signature Menchi Katsu Sando The Golden Menchi Curry Juu came with Rice, Miso Soup and a dish of Onsen Egg for dipping. The Ribeye Gyukatsu and Golden Menchi Katsu Zen was a combination of kinds of meat, the Ribeye Gyukatsu and the Mehchi, and also came with with Rice, Miso Soup and a dish of Onsen Egg for dipping and also dipping sauces of Dashi Soy Sauce and Gyakatsu Sauce. Both these dishes were very good, and the portions were very generous. The Special Snshoku Juu was a special dish that was on the menu at the table and not on the regular menu, so we decided to try this. It turned out that this dish, although still pretty good, did not stand up to the other dishes. We started with an order of Katsugyu Takoyaki (octopus balls). It had a typical taste and texture of many other Japanese restaurants, so it did not stand out in anyway, but was still good. We also decided to try a Menchi sandwich to divide among us, just to try it. I really liked the sandwich, the bread was soft and there was a good balance of sauce and cabbage. I liked everything we ordered, and the portions were fairly generous. The service was also outstanding. I would definitely return again.
