Rooms are outdated with a stale smell, and the provided deodorizer spray doesn’t help. As others mentioned, the hotel controls the air—rooms stay hot even in mild weather. Beds are hard, pillows flat, and overall comfort is lacking. Shuttle service to Kyoto Station runs when it feels like it; staff just suggest taking a taxi. Its location makes either a taxi or public transportation anywhere. It took four people before someone finally understood and helped with a simple luggage issue. Breakfast was average at best. This hotel has potential, but it feels like they’ve stopped caring about the guest experience. Definitely worth finding other hotels and taking the time to read others experiences

This place kind of sucks. No one brings your bags from your car. The lobby smells. They have extremely strict rules and make no exceptions. Food was very plain, and there are barely any gluten free options. You have to apply for a gym card then return it every day and check out a new card in the morning. The gym is tiny and run down. There is no counter space in the bathroom. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Breakfast buffet is better than most. Pretty good choices and it doesn’t smell fishy like most. ||Accomodating, professional and pleasant staff. While most Japanese hotels do not have employees well-versed in English, this place is better than most. ||It is well-located. ||Our room was comfortable in every way. The thermostat was responsive. The toilet has the requisite heated Toto seat accompanied by autoflush and bidet. The shower/bath is among the best I have experienced in the world. ||The minibar is well-stocked with Margaux wine and airline bottles of Bombay Saffire, etc. the fridge has Diet Coke, Perrier and unsweetened tea. It may be the only place in Japan that does not force Matcha tea. ||All in all, I would definitely return to this well-appointed, well-maintained hotel.

Nice hotel. Only complaint would be the air conditioning. You can't control it yourself, the hotel does. I'm a hot sleeper, so I like a cold room 70f/21c. This place you have no control. The put portable AC units in the room as well, but controls are in Japanese. I used Google translate, but it looks like it only runs for 15 minutes, then shuts off. Gotta get up and turn it back on. Its so disappointing a hotel this nice doesn't have good AC. Also, the only 2 bars here are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Bummer.

This was one of the most beautiful hotels that we stayed in anywhere. It's beautiful! Lobby friendly staff were wonderful. Like most hotels in Japan they don't offer any accommodation in terms of late checkout, but it was a beautiful hotel. Nonetheless. The garden the grounds were great. It wasn't close to very much, but if you take a cab it's about 5 minutes from anything that you'd want to see as a tourist. Thank you for the time and the memories

The lobby is more impressive than the rooms. We stayed in one that was very small for two passengers with a suitcase each. |Good location although it is far from the city center and its main attractions. The shuttle schedule could be longer.

We reached the breakfast area at 9:30 sharp. The breakfast ends at 10am. However when we reached Mr. Ohshita screamed loudly and rudely “Breakfast over”. We were not told ordering stops at 9:30, and that’s fine, just the tone and the way Mr. Ohshita handled the situation was rude and unprofessional. Many people came after us who were welcomed without the same rude tone. This was a very disappointing start to a morning in an otherwise lovely hotel

The staff were the highlight of this hotel. The lobby and public areas are beautiful and maintained. The pool upstairs appeared to have stagnant water which took away from the aesthetic but wasnt a big deal for us because we didn't plan on using the area. I would be happy to give the hotel 5 stars but the room was a bit warm and it was 90° F outside and there's no access to change the temp, no thermostat to control in the room.

Yelp
We stayed here for 2 nights and leaving tomorrow. The hotel location is convenient to the shopping area with hotel complimentary shuttle. But going back it's on your own. The place is very spacious, beautiful lobby, manicured garden and simplicity of the decor and design. Most of the staff are very courteous and attentive. Their breakfast buffet is excellent. Lots of choices. Our room Is very functional not big. The only recommendation is more softer bed and pillows. It was hard to sleep and not comfortable for my neck and back . Overall, it was a very nice hotel.

Yelp
Not many options in Kyoto that offered crib AND a parking lot (2000 yen per night). I ended up choosing this hotel and did not regret. The hotel in general is contemporary with Japanese style decorations. The room we stayed in was very clean and new. It was probably renovated?! The bathroom was a little on the small side, which is typical for Asian hotels. However, the bathtub and sink area were newish looking. We took advantage of their shuttle to and from Kyoto station. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes at both locations. One thing i didn't like about the room is that we couldn't control the room temperature. It's centrally controlled and we're only able to adjust the fan.

Yelp
This is a nice, modern (for Kyoto) hotel located on the same main street as the Kyoto rail station and only a 2 block walk from the Nishi Hongan-Ji temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  It's much bigger than it appears from the street view as the long side of the hotel is perpendicular to the street and not visible.  Photos I saw on Yelp and Trip Advisor did not do the hotel justice in my view, which is one reason I always try to share my own. Our 2 night stay was very comfortable with nice and firm beds and pillows, and that's big points from me.  US power outlets were available and no adapters were required.  There were 3 main restaurants and we had a delightful and reasonable cost dinner and one breakfast at one of them - Tankuma Kitamise, and which I will review separately.  Their other Japanese restaurant, All Day Dining - Kazahana, had a very expensive menu for dinner, and we didn't try their Chinese restaurant Star Hill. The main disadvantage of this hotel is that it is not near any walking distance eateries.  The Kyoto rail station does have a lot of restaurants, but it's a solid mile away and normally would require a bus or taxi ride.  The hotel does have a 2x per hour shuttle bus to the rail station.  We took a taxi one night to the popular Pontochō district for dinner and it's about 2.5 miles away and about a 1200 yen taxi fare ($9.16).  Fortunately, taxis are still very plentiful in Kyoto. Overall, because of lack of easy access non-hotel restaurants, I would say this hotel is fine for a 2 niter or less. ps - in 3 of the photos, check out the cool little drip coffee bags which were typical for all 3 Japanese hotels we stayed in.  They're novel and the quality was better, but I didn't feel like I got in as much caffeine intake per ounce as American drip pots though.

Yelp
We were booked into this Kyoto Hotel by Gate 1 Travel as part of our Japan Tour. Location/Neighborhood is fine. Employees are very nice and helpful. Not a place I would stay again because the ventilation system is poor here and we could not cool the room down enough to sleep well. Had to take 2 showers before bed. They fixed up the bathroom--things looked new, but they put the shelf over the sink in the bathroom out so much that I could not wash my face without constantly bumping my head into the glass. The breakfast buffet was "okay" but not spectacular. Across the street is an "American Food" restaurant popular with Japanese. you can get a US steak there. Down the block is a Lawsons which is like a 7-11.

Yelp
This hotel has no decent restaurant within walking distance, you can't control the room temperature, the map that they provide you is inadequate, the smoking room is small, and the wifi is super slow!!! I'm sharing a room with a friend, we requested two beds and they put twin beds right next to each so it looks like one queen.

Yelp
Great location. Everything else mediocre. Came here during autumn festival and it was super expensive ($400/night all in). Wasn't a bad choice relative to my other options. Don't listen to the concierge for restaurant choices. They will steer you wrong. Use yelp or TripAdvisor.

Yelp
Actual rating 3.5. The No1DP and I stayed here during our weekend in Kyoto. During his previous trip here back in the day he stayed here and had a pleasant experience with this hotel. Apparently the Tokyu hotels are a brand of mid-luxury chain hotels in Japan. LOCATION: The hotel is located within 1km of Kyoto Station. I think that the No1DP ended up paying less than ¥1000 each way by cab. CHECK-IN: Upon arrival via taxis the staff were waiting to open our taxi doors and carry our luggages. Additionally should we needed a taxi it didn't take too long for the staff to request one on our behalf. No1DP got one of the premium rooms. It has its own special check-in towards the back of the main lobby. When check-in is finished you are given hand towels (this is a standard ritual everywhere in Japan) and served cold tea with wagashi (snacks served with the tea). After a 3 hour shinkansen ride and an hour wandering around Kyoto buying as many yatsuhashi as I could find it was much appreciated. I didn't like my cold tea but I enjoyed eating my azuki bean-stuffed wagashi with the tea. I found it quite cute that the staff members bowed whenever they were leaving for an elevator. This is actually a standard custom within Japanese hospitality industry. The landscaping inside the hotel is quite nice. The central water fountain inside and outside provided additional tranquility to the hotel. ROOM: Our room was the "Premium Hollywood Twin". It is a Japanese-style room as we had to take our shoes off upon entering and the bedroom contained a separate set of slippers per guest. - FREE WI-FI. - Though the bed and pillows were quite comfortable (Simmons), the No1DP and I were bothered that the standard bed was in fact just two twin beds joined together in one compartment. This meant that the two beds kept on separating, which limits overall movement on the bed. - Origami crane next to two teacups with two yatsuhashi flavored rusk cookies. What a cute presentation. - For a more unique Kyoto experience the Nespresso flavors consisted entirely of tea (coffee available upon request) along with several samples of traditional loose-leaf tea. Additionally the Nespresso machine as well as a regular teapot were pre-filled with water so all one had to do was plug the machine and press the button. The Nespresso machine was easy to use and I had a cup of earl grey tea. BATHROOM: Small, but this is typical for a standard Japanese hotel. Standard Japanese amenities were included, which includes a comb, toothbrush/toothpaste, shower cap and washcloth (not available at American hotels). The cloth was flimsy and barely could keep the soap suds. What bothered me was that the water settings were not working for the bidet toilets and it took quite a long time for the water to warm. BREAKFAST: As part of the package the No1DP and I got two tickets to their breakfast buffet located at their all day dining "Kazahana". There was a combination of Japanese and Western breakfasts served. I tried their "make your own omelettes" that had a limited selection of meats and vegetables which didn't taste very fresh. The plates, though big, were awkward to hold and the section were small, so I barely had room to put my veggies. They also only had drip coffee for immediate consumption and for to-go (cups were located next to the pot) but their espresso drink machine was out of order. HOTEL BAR: Small and plain, but this is where I had my first introduction to real Cuban rum. It's one of the liquors I swear by as it forever changed how I looked at rum. There's also a souvenir shop inside the hotel should you need to purchase last-minute items. Yes, they have most flavors of yatsuhashi and nama yatsuhashi. The No1DP and I had a comfortable stay this time around. Should we come back to this hotel we'll explore other room options instead - we now know that it's best to have one king bed instead of two twin beds joined together. I did enjoy the Nespresso tea capsules and I look forward to trying more teas on subsequent visits.

Yelp
Good god. Don't let the fancy lobby fool you, this hotel has absurdly dated rooms. Up until this point I have been amazed at the quality of hotels across Japan...but the complete disregard for anything remotely current in the rooms of this shithole is appalling. On top of that, I went to get dinner at one of the 3 restaurants and all displayed "we are full" signs at their entrances despite having maybe half their tables occupied. Although I was not particularly disappointed to give my business to a restaurant that DOESNT support the horrible shark fin soup industry. All things considered, fuck this place!

Yelp
This is a great hotel! The service was impeccable as usual in most places in Japan. Lightning fast free WiFi in every room. One of my favorite perks here was that each room came with a complimentary loaner smart phone that includes a free international calling feature. We used this to navigate the city and to make free calls to the states every day since our US phones did not work reliably. The property was clean and quiet and the beds were firm but very comfortable. Each room had lots of amenities provided including shoe polish kits and free hairbrushes, complimentary bottled water etc and very nice shampoos. The location is very central and within a 15 min walking distance of the Kyoto train station etc. The hotel held our bags the last day in town and also has a complimentary shuttle that took us to the train station the day of our departure. I can highly recommend this property to anyone as a great starting point for exploring the city!

Yelp
Solid hotel. Can be a bit pricey. The service was good, although the concierge wasn't very helpful in reserving restaurants for us. Get the breakfast!
