We had high hopes for L’Isola in Gustavia, but the experience was disappointing from the start. The bread service set the tone—one breadstick arrived with the plastic wrapper still on it, as if it had just come out of a bulk shipment box. Alongside it was a piece of warm bread, but it was nothing fresh or memorable.
Next came the salads, which were priced between $35 and $40. Despite the high price, they were just basic greens with no special ingredients or presentation. One of the salads had a few small bites of lobster—maybe three pieces total—which felt more like a garnish than a feature.
The main courses didn’t redeem the experience. The pasta, advertised as homemade, tasted like it came straight out of a grocery store box. The sauce lacked any real flavor or character, and the portion size was surprisingly small.
We were so disappointed by the overall meal that we didn’t even stay for dessert or coffee. It was an underwhelming and overpriced experience, and it’s hard to understand how this place has managed to stay open so long. There are far better dining options on the island. Service was “good”.
