This was our first stop on our winery tour. Be prepared, as the temperature difference from the Ensenada hotel we stayed at was least 20 degrees.
As we wound through the region I was reminded of Paso Robles, except there was much less shrubbery.
The history of the this business and their reach was surprising, including the amount of wine they produce. Being the wine expert I am not, this winery had never crossed my ears.
L.A. Cetto produces 47 different offerings, while providing over 50% of the wine made in Mexico. They amass TONS of cases annually which had me a bit skeptical. Usually you would equate mass production with a lesser quality, which was not true in this case.
After our jaunt around where the juice is created, it was time to taste the goods. Our guide Mauricio, gave us detailed information about how to properly taste the wine. It was illuminating and what was in the glass was blew my socks off.
I wish it was easier to get their wines, because you can get Central California-esque wine at a fraction of the cost. In a while I will inquire with my friend Google, to see if more of this stuff is available. That two bottle per person limit at the border is for the birds. Especially after visiting L.A. Cetto.
