Incredible food! The fish and chips is probably the best one I’ve ever had and the duck wings are not to be missed! Also loved the cauliflower and potato dish, definitely didn’t miss the meat. I love when veggie dishes are thought out and not just an after thought. Highly recommend.

We did not have a reservation, we messed that up. But the host was able to get us seated in under an hour. Honestly, best food drinks and service we have had in our 2 week tour of the UK, British Isles, and Ireland. The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. The chefs outdid themselves. Had the fish and chips and the fish was so fresh and clean tasting, the chips were cooked perfectly, and the tartar sauce was outstanding. The duck wings had the best flavor, juicy and tender. The Bleu cheese dip was so unique and tasty. Our cocktails were amazing. Strong, but amazing! Overall an exceptional experience.

We had some trouble knowing where we could eat but once someone helped us, the meals were really really good. The fish & chips were one of the best I've tasted. But overall every meal was perfect. Can only recommend!

I enjoyed a scrumptious vegan Sunday roast here today with all the trimmings. The nut roast had a lovely meaty texture to it and the gravy was very rich. My friend had the vegan haggis, and she was equally as pleased. We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which while yummy, we felt it could have been a little more moist. We will definitely return though!

Google
Best Vegan Wings we ever had! Also the vegetarian Haggis and Cauliflower & Cheese was perfect! Perfect spot for traditional food and suitable for vegetarian & vegans. Also the trad Irish music was nice to watch!

Google
Best food we have had in Dublin. Simple and feel good. The duck wings were soo good do not come and not order them!. Starter and mains for 2 came to £48 which is very good value for money especially in Dublin. Lovely staff and vibes. Very much recommend!

Google
Delicious food and a great atmosphere! We started with the scotch egg—perfectly cooked—and paired it with an Irish beer sampler. I especially enjoyed the IPA. My partner loved the fresh bread with butter and bacon jam. For dinner, I had the blood pudding burger which was super flavorful, and my partner went with the classic fish and chips—both were excellent. Our kid had the chicken with mac and cheese and ate every last bite. The setting felt like a cozy Irish pub, complete with great music. A fantastic night out- if you have a chance eat here :)!

Google
Cracking place, food is excellent. Duck wings are well worth it! Nice to see a different menu and some effort with supporting local breweries and suggestions. Lovely interior too. Cheers

Yelp
Waking in the place appears like a generally nice pub, walk in a bit deeper and there's a cozy restaurant space in the back. Really really loved this place and it only grew on me throughout the night. Two of us split the scotch egg, melts Wexford cheese and crispy mackerel starters and then a steak. Egg was great, not to heavy, crispy & balanced well with the salad. Mackerel was cooked perfectly crispy and worked great w the pea purée, fennel, and citrus. Cheese was a bit like a baked Brie and very satisfying. The steak was so flavorful and came with so much butter and these really great onion rings (and some simple broccolini). After dinner we hung out for a long time at the bar, exploring the craft beer list and having some great chats with the very knowledgeable bartenders. Loved them and loved this place. Still felt traditionally Irish but both polished and comfortable neighborhood spot.

Yelp
Decent food, terrible service from our main server, I believe his name was Ciaran, at least that was the name on the ticket. We had reservations, arrived early, and after being sat, he ignored us for almost 30 minutes. He then took our order, and never came back. Other servers finally brought us our food and were friendly, but he was terrible, and the sides we asked for didn't come out right. Food was ok, but nothing to rave about. Also, when you first walk in, it smells like sewage, and the bathroom was filthy. Skip this place.

Yelp
I saw so many great reviews for this place so I had to try it. I enjoyed the at it was in a less touristy area and more local people. I was by myself and they sat me at the bar with dividers up so I literally could t see it talk to anyone else so that kinda sucked and then it took forever to close out at the end. Frozen drinks weren't operational either. Chicken Kiev was very good, but not life changing. The dark chocolate earl grey mousse though with caramel and pistachios was Devine. I would stop and grab that dessert and keep it moving next time.

Yelp
Fresh and interesting place off the main drag that I'd recommend. Cute shop good to take a break from Irish food

Yelp
Food was delicious. Server was friendly and made great suggestions. We sat in a booth at the front window. Overall a perfect dinner.

Yelp
Tasty food, friendly staff, creative cocktails, craft beers, and support for small businesses! What's not to love? My father and I ate here our second night in Dublin, and it was so good we returned a week later for an encore. If you enjoy pub food but want to take it up a notch, this is your place. Reservations are strongly recommended, as this place fills up fast.

Yelp
Liked the ambiance, service was great and the food good. Liked it enough to go back there again despite stiff competition on the same street.

Yelp
WE were looking for a place that was not in the touristy Temple bar area and L Mulligan did not disappoint. Although we did not have reservations the hostess was able to get us seated at the bar.Settled in with two well crafted and beautifully presented Expresso martinis. We ordered the cheese plate, it was superb,With a number of craft cheeses, and warm bread, poached pear, and rhubarb and apple chutney, honeyed nuts and Pickles the portions were generous .I had one of there nice local IPAs The wife and I split the grilled trout dish, it was excellent. Staff were warm and friendly.Throw all this in with a chill vibe.Nobody rushing you out the door. What's not to love! Great spot

Yelp
Lucky for me, my meat-eating boyfriend found out about this amazing gastro-pub in the Stonybatter neighborhood of Dublin that had some beers on tap he wanted to try AND they have vegetarian dishes too!! The neighborhood is a 15 minute walk or so from the Guinness storehouse. We made our way there slowly, crossing over River Liffey, and stopping at another pub along the way. We arrived on the early side...around 5pm, so it wasn't busy yet at all. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who showed us to a table. Cozy, comfy and warm! My boyfriend was ecstatic to try the beers on tap (he had an IPA from Eight Degrees Brewing). I'm not a beer girl, but I do enjoy sours and luckily for me, ciders in Ireland are MUCH better than ciders in the US. The vibe is super cool...feels like a traditional pub, with the decor you want and very friendly servers. The menu has something for everyone. My boyfriend ordered the Free Range Chicken Kiev, and he was in heaven. I passed on the vegetarian haggis....although it has no meat/eggs/fish in I, I just couldn't see past the name, ha! Have no fear though, they have several veg options. I had the grilled tofu steak with butternut squash purée, roasted heirloom carrots and broccolini, all served on top of an amazing vegan gravy. It's hard to make tofu taste REALLY yummy, I know this. But they did it. We spent a few hours there, and we had high hopes of going back, but alas, there were many more pubs and restaurants to get to! Definitely make it a point to eat here if ever in Dublin! Serving up yummy food, great drinks and Irish hospitality, it should not be missed!

Yelp
In my recent visit to Dublin, I really wanted an authentic Irish dining experience. The front desk of my hotel sent us here. I am so glad they did. I really wanted fish and chips. The ones they serve here are a little more on the gourmet side compared to what you might get for average take out. But they were absolutely phenomenal! They may have been one of my most memorable meals of my life. Seriously. My wife absolutely loved her goat cheese salad and side of chips. It was good enough for a meal alone. Plus her first Irish Coffee of her life was had here. She is a fan. Even my son's chicken fingers were higher quality than what you usually get. I don't know if I'll ever make it back here. But I'm so happy I made it once.

Yelp
From the moment we walked into L. Mulligan Grocer we were treated well. Arrived 20 minutes early and were quickly seated. Offered a complimentary cocktail for our 35th wedding anniversary. Scotch egg starter was delicious. Entire staff incredibly attentive. Duck breast and Chicken Kiev were excellent. Every component on the plate was well composed and complimentary to each other. Desert was delicious (lit candle was very nice!). Cocktail, Beer, and Wine lists were ample. Would recommend without reservation. A must visit restaurant when in Dublin. Thank you for a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
Went to this place on the recommendation of an NYT review. It did not disappoint. I went with the standard fish and chips, which came with a fresh kale salad. The fish was fried to perfection. I finished with the bread pudding, which was served with a dollop of ice cream and a gingerbread man -- fantastic.

Yelp
I visited in July 2019. As a tourist, L Mulligan Grocer was a welcome but unexpected experience. We planned on coming here, but we were not expecting a higher price, or the "fancy" element - we expected a generic pub with pub food. However, our dinner was delicious and an experience we have never had. We had the Tomahawk Lamb and another dish which the name is escaping me. Both dishes elevated "meat, potatoes and veggies" to a level we didn't think existed. Both had beets, and they were the element that really tied both dishes together with their respective meat. The place is big and has a homey feel to it. There are always waiters around waiting for you to look around for them. Additionally, bathrooms are a bit small but standard nonetheless. Everything was spotless, which was refreshing while traveling abroad.

Yelp
This restaurant had been my goto for Dublin visitors, so when my parents came to town and we had only one meal in Dublin I figured it's a safe bet. Boy was I wrong. They could not have dropped the ball harder. 30 minutes after ordering I started to wonder if our appetizers were put in the system, as I recall them coming out quickly on past visits and I began to casually look for our server to inquire. 45 minutes later, our beers and water in need of refills, I desperately tried to flag down ANY server in the dining area and despite plenty of servers on the floor, nobody made eye contact with our table nor checked in with us. After a FULL HOUR I grabbed a random server (who had no intention of stopping at our table) and explained what was happening. He took our drink order, checked in with the kitchen and informed us there had been a "miscommunication" and our appetizer order wasn't put in, and therefore the entrees weren't started. The food came out all at once 1:20 after ordering. I understand that operational glitches happen at restaurants, however the severity of this incident could have been avoided if our waitress merely checked in with our table AT ALL. For a restaurant of this price point and prestige I'm SHOCKED that such an event can occur. It's pretty simple: servers should regularly check in with their table, not force customers to desperately flag them down. This restaurant ruined my parents impression of the Dublin food scene. I wasn't going to write this review until I noticed a similar review theme of poor service and I want the restaurant to get the message. They get one star back for the way they handled the incident, comping the appetizers, offering a free round of drinks and profusely apologizing (not our waitress, other servers), which is the best they could do given the circumstance.

Yelp
It was my second time here and it was again outstanding! The staff is great and the food and beer is wonderful.

Yelp
The Pub is darling. I loved the decoration and the menu idea. We didn't have a reservation but the wait was shorter than they said it would be. The food we ordered was delicious. It was probably one of the best meals I had in a restaurant in months. Maybe years. I wish I could still be eating. And for my birthday I want the recipe for the beetroot slaw! Pretty please? It was a little pricier (but we also just spent time in Prague which was pretty cheap...) but we were so full that we couldn't fit in any dessert. I wish I would live closer and could be a regular. And I wish I would drink alcohol and try al their beer recommendations. I am just in love with this pub and the service was great too.
google avatar

Diana W.

Yelp
Came here based on other Yelp recommendations. Walk in and expected a pub experience but it was actually much more enjoyable, nicer, and pricier than that. Very attentive service. Huge selection of whiskeys And other drinks. Their chorizo Scottish egg was so delicious. Spicy! I had their lamb burger which was tasty as well. But my husband's rib eye steak was so fresh. Sticky toffee pudding ended our meal perfectly. Try to find this place for some great local cooking.

Yelp
Great food and service. Recommend this restaurant despite not in tourist area if Dublin. Safe area!

Yelp
I think looks can be deceiving with this place. From the outside its just another old man pub, and even the interior is slightly on the outdated side, but in a charming way more than anything. I was really impressed with the food and service in Mulligans! They have a separate menu for dietary needs such as vegan and gluten free. Their menu changes often so there is plenty of variety. I had the tofu and beetroot croquet with puréed spinach, it was absolutely gorgeous, so filling and a huge portion! Their cocktails are great, they have a variety of craft beers available too. I'd definitely come back here, would love to try their vegan starters and desserts!

Yelp
Huge and varied and interesting beer selection coupled with a great menu that includes everything from rib-eye steak to vegetarian Scotch Egg in an atmosphere that can be best described as hipster incarnate - in short, this place has it all. ...if you are into fixie bikes, and hipster beards and baristas and craft beer. LMG is 2016 all bundled up and placed in a pub. I loved my black pudding scotch egg, I loved the White Hag Little Fawn IPA, I loved the free Range Chicken Kiev, served as it was, with twice cooked chips. For a short, fat balding 41 year old man who can at best be described as 'someone who used to be a hipster when he was young and thinner and cool (because no one can prove otherwise), it feels like home. There are many more beers to be tried upon a return visit.

Yelp
I'm always just here for lunch. For one as the friend I come here with just loves their scotch eggs but also as I live along the Dart line so staying here for a few and then still having to walk all the way back sounds painful. But I would love to try their restaurant part some day. For lunch I had their scotch eggs, the Ploughman Platter and the Black Pudding. Every meal was very tasty, but if you're hungry you might want to order a side too seeing these are starters. The staff a friendly and knowledgeable about all the different craft beer on offer and if you're unsure what to decide for it's no roblem to get a taster. It's certainly a pub I'd go to more often if I'd lived in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Good atmosphere and delicious food. Local options only on draft and bottle beer. (MacIvor's real Irish Cider was an interesting treat!) Recommend the fish and chips - definitely fresh fish and fries are hand-cut. Food came out faster than anticipated - suggest waiting a bit to order food if you would like to enjoy your beverages.

Yelp
Disappointing experience. Positioning of place (finer casual dining, rotating local menu, etc.) is inconsistent with execution. Tap list seems is pretty much a port from any Midwestern US bar(e.g., Founders All Day IPA). Not a bad thing but once again inconsistent with brand positioning. Service is a mess, about an hour to get food after being seated 20 minutes after we were told a table would be available. Food is good but not blow you away. I would pass on this place.
google avatar

Matt F.

Yelp
There is a management problem at this restaurant. The food is good, the whiskey list is great, and they do an adequate job with the beer. They do not operate the floor well. When I was there, three servers ran the entire floor with no bus support. One of those servers was brand new and god bless her, tried her hardest. It was not their fault they failed. Management needs to hire to properly bus and set tables so the servers can do their jobs well. It was a terrible experience with a very obvious solution.

Yelp
One of the best meals we have had in Ireland and that's from us foodies. Very unassuming pub/restaurant away from the city center. The menu was small and perfect. Menus are typed and held in actual classic books is a new and cool way to bring your attention. I had the Chicken Kiev which started to look like fried chicken until i started to dig into it and it was divine. The sides were so tasty and went well with my chicken. My daughter had the Pork Collar and that was easily the best dish. My wife went Vegetarian and had the Veg Haggis and that was also amazing. We shared an Irish Sticky toffee pudding and was the best we had this trip.

Yelp
What happened ? Been here so many times I decided it would be a nice relaxing spot for my 40th family meal. How wrong was I. The service was beyond bad. My waiter and waitress clearly had issues grasping my drinks order, seaweed saison that I enjoyed at the craft beer festival never arrived and my cask Galway Hooker arrived on draft. When the waiter came back he looked at me as if I had 2 heads, checked and told sorry not on tap. My pork belly hadn't been cooked slow enough to render down and my scotch egg was nothing like I had here before l. Special occasion means special single malt which was confused with a cocktail and after explanation and pointing they still screwed it up and then charged to the bill. It's ardbeg uigeadail not some bloody magic potion. The so called 3fe coffee was weak as 3rd running from an espresso machine. I asked for the bill as I knew it was time to give the table back. 10 min later no bill but a very belligerent waitress came up and demanded the table. We normally leave a great tip but this time I was hard pressed to leave 2%. The whole thing was well below par and really not what these guys are know for. Come on guys. I cannot articulate in a review my disappointment so I mentioned it to the host at front of house and while he was apologetic and offered money from the bill, this is not what I wanted but I did want to express how disappointed and saddened I was at one of my favorite spots is now down there in the dumps. BTW I did not accept money from the bill nor did I want it and I think in 17 years of paying my own bills I have complained perhaps 4 times, I normally adopt the quiet Irish mentality and moan later but I did want to let them know and hope they might get a grip.. I won't be back because I'm afraid complacency breeds contempt.

Yelp
We almost left when we learned that they don't serve Guinness (they serve a similar stout by Porterhouse Brewery, also in Dublin), but we were so glad we stayed for the great ambiance (far superior to the standard Dublin pub atmosphere), the exquisite dining (the brisket was, again, leagues better than standard pub fare), and friendly service. We later went elsewhere for that singular and seemingly requisite Guinness experience, but going here first was absolutely the right choice. Our best meal in a long time!

Yelp
WHAT CAN I SAY! I have long heard about this palce being a great spot! But the food I got! WOAH! Blew my mind! Seriously good! They rock it! The vegetarian burger! Then need an award for this! The onion baji bun... YES! Then the venison braised... you guys are on it! My favourite is the root veg chips - I need to know how you do this! I will be returning time and time again when I am home! Well in!

Yelp
I can't believe I'm reducing my star rating to three!!! Third time unlucky for my visit to L. Mulligan Grocer. My fiancé chose here for his 40th birthday celebration with his parents and brother after we had been twice and enjoyed the food and drinks. We arrived about 15 minutes before our booking but that wasn't an issue and we were brought to our seats but after that? Well the best I can say is that service was chaotic. The birthday boys drinks were wrong, firstly he ordered a saison beer that didn't arrive. He asked another server who then told him they didn't have it anymore! Then after our meal he tried to order whiskey that was on their menu. First it didn't turn up and then we were brought the wrong drink before finally being told that they didn't have it anymore!!! When we got the bill the wrong drink that arrived and returned was still on the bill. I got that removed pretty sharpish!! I was a little disappointed with the number of jellies that arrived with the bill - also it didn't turn up in the Oxford maths tin like on previous visits. We asked for the bill and then we had another server come over to ask for the table back. Unfortunately all of the little touches I loved on previous visits weren't there this time. What a let down! I have to admit that we left a crappy tip and told the manager. We got a bottle of wine as an apology but with that being said the only reason I haven't been so harsh is that I absolutely loved my food!!! To start I had the black pudding with almond crumbed sweet potato and apple croquette, goats cheese, pickled beetroot and balsamic syrup. For my main course I ordered the chicken Kiev which came with a drumstick, charred corn, beetroot slaw and twice cooked chips. Finally I did order dessert - smoked caramel brownie which came with blackcurrant purée, candied popcorn, apple chantilly cream and an apple crisp. I ordered 3fe French press which unfortunately was very weak. To sum it all up the food is still amazing but there's an air of complacency or just a little air of carelessness about the staff this time.

Yelp
If you have had a breakup I recommend forgetting your woes here over their rib-eye steak with Connemara whiskey butter. My anguish got forgotten within the sweet butter slathered over that meat. I muttered cuss words after every bite and wished ill will after every chew. Once the steak was eaten they were forgotten. Very cathartic and highly recommended. If you have work colleagues in town from the United States or from anywhere for that matter, take them here. Let the knowledgeable bartender convince you to try the award winning Power's and let your scepticism disappear. Bring family here, especially the ones that don't eat meat. Why not full stars? Every table is usually reserved even the ones at the bar, which is frustrating if you want to have a few drinks after your meal. It would be nice if they had an area where you only can have drinks.

Yelp
What a treat! A fabulous departure from the standard (and equally lovely) pint of well-poured Guinness and pub food. Many establishments assuredly do these classics quite well, but take a pop into L Mulligan and you'll have a bit of a different experience... Craft beer, well curated wine list, small batch liquors...the works. I had a Dr. Rudi (Belgian-style Ale brewed in Ireland!) and a Belfast Blonde. I enjoyed both but could've probably kept drinking the blondes due to their lighter punch. The Haddock and chips (Jenga chips!) were especially tasty (my first fish 'n chips since arriving to these stretch of islands) -- and my manpal had the bangers and mash. I was so full, I could've burst, but I couldn't help myself. SO SO good. Staff is extremely on point, friendly, knowledgeable, quick and would surely make me want to return. And did! As many have mentioned, L Mulligan manages to do kitsch without cheese. Menus tucked inside old books, bills delivered in pencil cases, some salvaged tables...a bit of unique without slapping you in the face with it. I found it quite sad that they had to put a PSA in the menu about people not stealing their stuff. C'mon people -- don't steal ANYTHING from a business, let alone a small business. Thought it was quite cute that they've got an "amnesty box" for any of those wayward folks that may have tipped a few too many and gotten a little grabby. BRING THE STUFF BACK! Anyway, rant over. This is a lovely place and I'd be a regular if I lived in Dublin. If you are a local or a traveler -- definitely pop in and try it for yourself. It's warm, friendly, cool, great food, great drinks and a fantastic staff. What more could you want? And don't say "one of those pencil boxes." Leave them at the bar! *Idea for L Mulligan: maybe you should just have a gift shop and sell the special stuff? ;)

Yelp
Being a born and bred Stoneybatter-head I have known of the establishment known simply as "Mulligan's" since I was a chizler. Way back then and up to a couple years back this was probably a pub I would have steered clear of. It has had a colourful past with so many different owners and clientele (most of whom were unsavoury at best).... Then out of the blue ---- BAM!!!!! New management take over and turn this previous "hole" of a pub in the 'Batter into one of my most favourite pubs in Dublin. I have been here on numerous occasions. Sometimes for food and drink. Sometimes just for the drink. But I have thoroughly enjoyed every experience.... The bar staff are super friendly and helpful. If you are unsure of what to choose from their vast variety of beers and ciders they will talk you through each beer you may have your eye on. If this beer is available on draught they will even pour you a taster to see if you like it before you buy a full pint!! Amazeballs..... Where the hell do you get that anywhere else in Dublin??? My personal favourite is the Chocolate Stout. Yes, sounds kinda gross. I am not the biggest fan of chocolate but am a big fan of stout! This stout is like the nectar of the Gods. It's not like chocolate, it just has a hint of the cocoa bean (or something). Anyways, whatever it is it is nom noms!!!! It's like Guinness with an added orgasm.... The food is super tasty and not too over priced. Some pub grub and especially gastro stuff can be average and over priced. They have the price and the taste spot on here! I think the last thing I ate was the potted crab. Super nom noms..... I have even arranged for my work crowd to come here for an evening. (My office is nowhere close but I assured my colleagues it was worth the taxi fare)..... After their first experience, they agreed!!!

Yelp
Ok. I throw in the white flag. Have been back here since, and I've gotta say, fair play to yis lads, you sure do know how to put on a good meal. It must have been an off day when I was there previously, because the food this time was impeccable. I got a black pudding and salad starter which was ridiculously good, and for main, I got the vegetarian platter which had all manner of treats in it - various mashes and roulades and breads and the like. I was so enamoured with it (and the yum beer) that unfortunately the details escape me... you'll just have to go and check it out for yourself!

Yelp
L. Mulligan Grocer is one of Dublin's newest and best kept secrets. There are few pubs in Ireland that have the guts to take out the Guinness tap and that's exactly what they did. In fact they were encouraged after opening how many people did not actually walk out of the pub after being told there is no Guinness. In fact the only mass produced beer I recall seeing on tap is Becks. Everything else is craft beer. The prices are a little more expensive than some other similar type pubs but only a matter of a few cent to be honest. The first time I was in was shortly after opening and food was just being served a couple of days. The pork was fantastic. So good that I had it again a few weeks later when I had my small birthday party there. Everything about the experience is wonderful from the lack of TV and music to the apron wearing bar staff. When you get your bill you get a little brown bag of sweets reminding me of the good ole days growing up and buying 100 penny jellies with my pound pocket money. There are board games and lots of books, many of which are about world beer, brewing and bars around the world. There is a great atmosphere. They were not accepting credit cards yet the last time I was in but I am sure that has been rectified by now. I heard they are now opening for lunch as well but I don't have confirmation. There is a full Whiskey collection also.

Yelp
That was a great meal. I would have to say one of the bigger surprises I've had in Dublin. I think the little details contributed a lot to the experience; our menus came in little books and my drip coffee came with a hourglass and a beautiful set. "THEY SERVE 3FE COFFEE!" That was the first thing I said when I looked at the menu. "THEY HAVE SMOKED BEER" was the first thing my friend said. The selection of amazing-ness was...well...amazing. Food: great. I ordered the burger and my friends ordered the bangers and mash. We cleaned our plates. Since the food was so amazing, we decided to all go for dessert. Again, everything disappeared so fast we didn't even have time to offer each other a taste. Great food, great experience, great selection...great place.

Yelp
Of all the places we visited to eat while on vacation in Ireland-this was the most interesting and exciting. It's a pub, but a total local's joint and a secret foodie paradise. My hotel desk clerk had no idea what I was talking about. They have this amazing menu that is more like an American Gastropub would have then your average bar menu. It was an actually grocery back in the day-and I'm please to report it's back in a fashion: They set up a grocery section, open each Friday & Saturday from 12.30pm selling craft beer to take away in refillable growler flasks, beer hampers, retro sweets, Arun Bakery Stoneybatter sourdough & Vlaa baps, Irish farmhouse cheeses, Wall & Keogh tea by the gram, 3FE Coffee beans, Dublin Kombucha, cupcake mixes & jars of bacon jam. YES PLEASE on all of that if I lived in town!! We made an early reservation at 5pm and had no problem, but anything later than that is tough to get in if you don't plan in advance. It's one of Dublin's hottest craft beer bars-a scene that's just been heating up in the area for about two years. Being from San Diego I was thrilled to see this industry taking off-the range of options is getting bigger and bigger-and this place pours cask beers, has limited edition brews and a range of options you won't find anywhere else. It all compliments the vibe there-and the food of course! The menu for food is bound within old books, so page through, I almost missed a whole section. I had my heart set on the Scotch Egg to begin, but as we were so early they were still in prep-so I went for the Black pudding, my first ever. "Sir" Jack McCarthy's Black Pudding, Beetroot Puree, Apple & Red Onion Boxty, Lovely Plums with Fivemiletown Goats Cheese. The server said it'd be the best I'd ever have-and I did enjoy it immensely. Maybe I'm ruined for all other puddings now, and they swear it's the best in Dublin. I had the Free Range Chicken Kiev made with Inishowen Whiskey Butter and Hazelnut Crumb served with Twice Cooked Chips, Red Cabbage & Warm Smoked Bacon Slaw with Corn Puree as my main course, and ate it completely. I also stole the pot of smokey au jus from my BF's 9 oz Kettyle Extra Mature Rib Eye Steak and poured it all over my chips (thick cut fries from you 'Mericans!) We passed on dessert-but I had a whiskey and apple juice drink that was to die for. It's a must when you're in Dublin, off the tourists path.

Yelp
"Simply amazing!" I visited Mulligan with my other half after reading great reviews and what a visit... The atmosphere: relaxing & warm, the place is an old school irish pub, from the door you will be welcomed with a smile, the music is low, so don't expect dancing, but believe me its great for a chat. Drinks: fresh local cold beer with an amazing whisky list. Service: quick & friendly Food: Delicious. Starting with the appetiser, pork & chorizo yummy. The main course was a rare rib eye steak, so tender & lovely, cooked to perfection. The desert, check the photo, you will understand... Magical Cost: pint €€5-6. A beautiful rich rib-eye steak €€26 Location: close to city centre = 20 min walk, easily accessible. Tip: Go there if you are hungry & wanna have a great chat in an amazing place. Highly recommended

Yelp
Lurrrvely pub tucked in a unassuming street of Smithfield. The crowd was mixed - from families to young professionals to tourists all here for the extensive beer on tap and very very good Sunday lunch menu. My mate had the roast ham which was divine - he was actually quiet for 10 minutes (a first for him!) while he inhaled his food. I opted for the posh fish and chips - herb crusted haddock with jenga chips, also very good. It was priced in the middle of the range - €40 for two main courses and two pints. I know where to go for Sunday roast in future!

Yelp
Publicans everywhere, take a good long look at Mulligans, because this is how you do it. Everything's so good here... The happy and diverse clientele - families, groups of friends, couples -, the extremely helpful and friendly staff, the extensive choice of drinks, especially if you're into craft beers, and last but certainly not least, the delicious food. So, in more detail: - The ambiance: unassuming, cozy and not too loud, even though it gets a bit busy. - The service: the waiters and bartenders are all very amicable and polite, and some of them get somewhat chatty. Also, I love the fact that they actually have a hostess greeting people and managing the tables, it makes everything go a lot smoother. - Drinks: oh boy, this is like pub paradise. They have whiskey and beer in quantity and quality, and they go the extra mile by presenting an excellent menu with drink pairings. - Food: it gives a whole new meaning to the expression pub grub! If you're here on a Sunday you'll be able to order the Sunday roast, which is very much worth it. There's only one thing that I don't fully appreciate, the vegetarian course is a bit too greasy, but it is so tasty and goes nicely with all the beer. This would easily be enough to make it a five-star pub, but there's more: they put up some occasional events, usually for dinner with a specific theme - for instance, a special dinner to taste some whiskeys. They announce these kind of things on their blog, if you want to know when the next one's coming up. It's just the kind of place where you want to keep coming back for a truly pleasurable evening. As the Vulcans would say on Star Trek, may you live long and prosper!

Yelp
I had heard many good things about L Mulligan Grocer and even on a freezing cold late March evening a 30 minute walk across the river in search of some good food and ale did not seem too daunting. I had taken the precaution of booking a table earlier that day which was wise as even on a Wednesday night the dining area at the back of the pub was full by 8.30. We started our evening with a beer sitting on some high stools at the front of the pub. Lots of original dark wood, plenty of old school atmosphere and a nice mix of local folk and tourists. There is a great selection of beer - not that much on cask but plenty of choice on keg and from the bottle. Not a Guinness tap in sight - this is a craft beer pub and proud of it. The main eating area is cosy and our fellow diners were a mix of romantic couples and larger groups. The scrabble "reserved" signs on tables and menus in old books might seem a little twee in other places but somehow it all works quite well at the Grocer. We started our meal by sharing a very tasty pâté which came with some fine sourdough bread - this was more than enough for two and the friendly staff had no problem when we asked for more bread to finish off the pâté. B had the very popular dish of moules frites which was flying out the kitchen and filling the dining room with a heady fishy aroma. I took the advice of our knowledgeable waiter and went for the chicken Kiev which came with sides of double cooked chips, creamed sweet corn and a spicy beetroot slaw. Both our dishes were superb and in my experience classic pub food does not come much better than this .... We washed all this delicious food down with a very nice bottle of Andeluna Torrontes. Unlike a lot of other craft beer pubs the Grocer has put a lot of thought into its small but interesting wine list. By this point we were on the verge of a food coma so we skipped the lovely looking dessert menu. While waiting for the very reasonable bill (don't worry the bill here will not break the bank and is excellent value for money) we had a quick coffee and a cheeky glass of Redbreast from the extensive whisky list before heading back "home" - a return visit is already being planned.

Yelp
This place is still lovely inside. Great decor and range of beer and whisky. Definitely full of hipster waiters that seem a little too cool for school. The starter of scotch egg was gorgeous. My sister had the boar burger which she loved... But €17 for a burger and chips seems nuts to me. I had the chicken Kiev which was too dry and just contained a dribble of garlic butter. Needs more. The recommended beer was really good. Yum. Overall nice dinner if you can stomach the hipster vibes and prices.

Yelp
One of the more authentic Irish pub/restaurants to eat at but was slightly overpriced for the quality and taste of food in my opinion. For service, the waiter was just unfamiliar with the menu which only had around 8 entrees. My friend asked to make sure if the type of meat for a dish was fish and the waiter first said that he had no idea and then responded that it "should be." Clearly, didn't know the menu. For appetizers, ordered their well known Scotch Egg which was DELICIOUS AND DESERVES 5 STARS on its own. It was a seasoned yolk egg with fried and salted outer shell that came with two sauces -- one like a salsa and the other a seasoned relish mayo. Delicious, warm, and hit the spot. I ordered the the chicken kiev, which to my innocent surprise, was fried! Regardless, I felt that the outer seasoning for the frying could have used more seasoning but the meat inside was perfectly cooked. Also came with two herb buttered pieces of corn and a red cabbage slaw and a whole cup of "chips" or fries. Really good veggie sides that helped to bring the meal together and created a good introduction to Irish traditional cuisine. When you pay, they also give you a small bag of gummies I very much appreciated.

Yelp
They make great Scotch Eggs (there's also a vegetarian version of this) and have a pretty extensive collection of beers. My personal favourite is the Lagunitas IPA which hard to find in Ireland. I ordered the vegetarian burger and it was quirky with root vegetable fries and roast potatoes instead of a bun.

Yelp
Great spot. Traveling from San Francisco and loved the gourmet interpretation of Irish classics! Very nice vibe, would work for business pleasure or solo.

Yelp
Sometimes you just have a feeling about a place. I already knew I was going to love Mulligan's Grocer before I ever even stepped foot inside. The food and beer menus online looked amazing and, as an added indicator of "these guys really know their stuff", they do food and beer pairings. Oh, and they "just happen" to be located in our new neighbourhood. We walked in on a Friday night without a reservation, and it was busy, but it wasn't too much drama for us to grab a table for two. The vibe was laid-back bustle - no elbowing at the bar to get a drink served to you. We ended up ordering the black pudding starter (served with a boxty, pickled pear, whipped goat's cheese and port balsamic reduction) and the burger with zucchini fries. As it was our first time, we also went with the two beers they recommended to complement each dish. Everything was excellent! The zucchini fries were delicious, but special mention has to go to the black pudding starter. The composition and flavours were amazing... right up there with some fine-dining meals I've had, but for pub food prices! The beer recommended with the dish was the Rodenbach Grand Cru, a Belgian beer with a slight sourness - it went with the richness of the black pudding and creamy goat's cheese perfectly. An A+ for this genius pairing. I already can't wait to go back!

Yelp
After spending a good hour pouring through Yelp reviews of different Dublin restaurants, I finally decided to go here for my 30th birthday dinner. So glad we did! The food was fantastic. Upscale dining in a pub atmosphere. And the whiskey menu... Oh the whiskey menu. 100+ to choose from, categorized by flavor profile and each with a short description. Page after page. It was a dream come true. Can't wait to visit on my next trip!

Yelp
A gem! Outstanding menu, inviting interior, thoughtful presentation, excellent food, impressive variety of beers, and friendly staff. You call it a gastro-pub. I call it The Pub. My wife and me had dinner here on 12/29. For appetizers she ordered the mushrooms and I had the black pudding. The mushrooms where full of earth tones, nicely served with a pepper-garlic cream, and toasted sourdough. The black pudding appetizer was outstanding. I'd love to know who's their black pudding supplier because the quality of the sausage was outstanding (definitely better than any Clonakilty stuff I've had). For our main entrees we had the mussels and the lamb burger. Both were excellent. And both came with those crunchy, tasty double fried chips. The lamb burger was so good that I put the bun aside and enjoyed the meat and the chips. The mussels were nicely steamed in a fragrant broth where my burger's bun ended up for a few dives after my wife finished her meal! Our bill including a pint of beer, a glass of white wine, and the outstanding dark chocolate mouse came to €57,50. As a suggestion I would only ask that the management consider adding a few coeliac-friendly options to the otherwise fantastic menu. Also I'd like to see the option for tip on the credit card slip.

Yelp
Mulligans is, by far, one of my favourite places to eat in Dublin. I can't count the number of times I've been there now. The place managed to recapture that "old pub" feel; they have groceries behind the door, everything is wooden and looks like an "old man pub". They serve somewhat traditional pub food with a more contemporary edge (don't roll your eyes, it's not as douchey as it sounds). Also the menu changes regularly which I always feel is a very good thing in a restaurant. You frequently see dishes such as roasted pork belly with bubble and squeak potato cakes, homemade chicken kievs and wild board burgers. The best thing on the menu in Mulligans, though, are the skotch eggs. They usually have three kinds on the menu; standard sausage meat (always delicious), veggie (also delicious) and another skotch egg that rotates with the menu. For the... uh... "skotch egg rotation" I have seen smoked haddok and black pudding skotch eggs amongst other things. Even though they have many other delicious starters here, I have never been able to bring myself to order something other than a skotch egg. Mulligans is also a great place to drink; they have a massive selection of craft beers and whiskeys. On the menu they have recommended pairing of beer with all their meals and whiskey with their deserts. The bar staff are more than happy to recommend and talk your ear off about their drinks. Mulligans also has a partner micro brewery ( the Brown Paper Bag Project) that brews some of the tastiest beers around. Mulligans is a great place to have a meal then sit around drinking for the night sampling tasty beers and whiskeys. If you feel like treating yourself to an evening of fancy eating and drinking this is your place.
