This place feels like a little time warp, like being transported back into the 90s with its old school charm. It’s great spot if you’re looking to explore comforting, flavorful Nicaraguan cuisine with generous portions and variety. I started with the carne asada, which unfortunately was not my favorite. It leaned a bit dry and lacked the punch I was hoping for. That said, the rest of the menu more than made up for it.
The fried plantains are sensational, perfectly caramelized with that soft inside, crisp edge balance you want. The fried yucas are also deliciously crisp and come with an onion brine that is slightly sour and spicy, adding a really nice contrast and a good side option. Their whole fish of the day is top notch, cooked beautifully and full of flavor. If you are looking for something hearty, the mahi mahi is fantastic, nice, meaty, and satisfying.
Even though the carne asada didn’t shine, the bisteck absolutely did. It’s saucy, well seasoned, and just overall comforting and good. For soup lovers, the oxtail soup is a must try. It’s brothy, with oxtail , pumpkin carrots cassava and corn it’s incredibly nutrient rich, and honestly soul warming.
They also make lovely mocktails for kids, and while the drink portions are oversized in my opinion, it actually works in their favor. Overall, La Bella Managua delivers solid food, great sides, and comforting plates. A great place to be a regular! *Note ; it gets incredibly busy it’s recommended to reserve a table !
