"Opened in 1902, the mainstay of La Bombonera is the pan de Mallorca dish: a sweet-savory mashup in the form of a melty swiss cheese, egg, and ham sandwich encased in buttery sweet bread and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Pair it with a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice or a café con leche to start the day--or to remedy yourself after a night out. There was a bit of a line when I first arrived, but it was quick and worth the wait."

Where to Get the Best Brunch in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"La Bombonera, like much of Old San Juan, looks like it has been around forever. And although it's not quite as ancient as the city’s 16th-century forts, it still has cred, having been in business since 1902, making it San Juan’s third-oldest restaurant. Its stained-glass-and-tiled façade is one of the city’s surviving vestiges of a Spanish Colonial past. The founder, a native of the Balearic islands, brought with him something that Puerto Ricans would adopt as their own: the Mallorca, a puffy, snail-shell-shaped sweet bread. How you eat them is the only decision to be made. Plain with butter? With cheese? With ham? Bacon and cheese? Ham, cheese, and egg? With homemade chocolate spread? No matter what, it always comes topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar." - Kathleen Squires

Loved it. It's such a beautiful place and the people there are nice and efficient. I had a great time and will return for sure. Oh, by the way, the food was really good. It was overall a great surprise and I'm still in love with it. The apple syrup is great, I recommend it with your pancakes.

Nice and clean, well run and maintained shop with great coffee, pastry and breakfast items. Opens after 0800, maybe later, on Sunday...closed until end of February 2018

Mallorca Classico! My family came to La Bombonera for the Mallorcas but also thoroughly enjoyed the coffee! We loved it so much, my wife spilled her first cup then purchased another!

Fantastic place to stop for a coffee and some Mallorcas. Awesome setting and great location. Most negative reviews are based on 'slow service' or bad food. The food and drinks have always been wonderful for me. Don't expect a quick pop-in - give yourself at least 45 minutes for breakfast and you'll have a great time!

Open since 1902, this place was great. Ordered one mallorca with cheese, one with ham and cheese, one quesito, flan and cafe con leche. The mallorcas were well done and the coffee was amazing. Now im wishing I ordered the coconut flan and the quesito y guayaba. Prices are very reasonable.

I have been comming to little joint in San Francisco St since I can remeber. Exoerienced it both vintage and new. Vintage rocked!! The place is way overpriced and food quality and service lack quality. Took my daughter to see where mama calmed her cravings, but I think thats my last visit. Sadly it was a great place.

Beautiful place. So well kept for being around since 1902. Get the Mallorcas... you won't regret it. We ate here 2 mornings in a row.
