€40 here will get you a rather compact room with a big double bed and private bathroom, breakfast excluded. The outside of the building, like everywhere in Taüll, looks irresistibly quaint and characterful, but once you get past the dining hall it all quickly becomes strictly functional to say the least -one needs to understand that homeliness and warmth are just not a part of Spanish culture, even in this high altitude very medieval-looking village in the Pyrenees. It is not a fantastic hotel, but then it doesn't market itself as a hotel, but as a pension, and as a pension it cannot be faulted -cleanliness is above any criticism and nothing short of flawless.
