"Lunch in an underground cellar Just steps from the historic Doria Church of San Matteo (with its gorgeous glass mosaic door embellishment), La Buca di San Matteo serves a delicious prix-fix lunch in their beautifully classic sunken dining room for only 20 euro (if pesto is on the menu, go for it -- theirs is exceptional!). Dinner is pricey, so come for your mid-day meal and enjoy the much more cost effective splurge!"

A perfect day in Genoa

One of the best dining experiences I had in a while. The food was excellent. Wvery dish we had was very tasty. the service was very good, especially our waiter Rouba who was very friendly. The atmosphere very calm, and chic. I only have one remark, some of the dishes needed a bit more salt. However, an exceptional resting that I would strongly recommend it of you are visiting Genoa.

This was a lovely experience! Warm welcome, perfect service, incredible food, beautiful atmosphere. (They even have a special table in a secluded candke-lit corner, perched on a glass floor over an atmospheric well! Think ultimate date night!) They have a number of dishes with truffles -- divine. The fish is fresh and well prepared. Save room for dessert.

We walked into this place because the other place we wanted to go to was over booked. Best decision. The restaurant was relatively empty and there was just one waiter. But the food and wine was very good. The waiter was so cordial and respectful of his guests. You can even book a private room with an amazing ambience for an extra 10€. Highly recommend the place. They have good veg, non veg and seafood options. All typically Italian.

Went in on a Thursday evening. The place was not busy. The staff were polite and the service was fast. The two pastas we ordered were rich in taste, of good size and great value. Tasty! A quiet place for a quite night out with a great location !

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring old town Genoa. Atmosphere was low key elegant. Service and food were exceptional.

Yelp
This place was alright. Seafood heavy menu. I had a fishcake that was ok but just not to my taste. Fish of the day was ok with a decent sauce, but it didn't seem as fresh as I expected. Overall, this restaurant wasn't too bad, but I expected better at this price point.

Yelp
Gayle and I had our "Farewell to Italy" Dinner here on our last evening here. We just happened to be wandering around in the old City and found this place near the San Matteo Church, and without a tour book to lead the way. Actually, the front door had the right kind of stickers that suggested that this place was well regarded and that they accepted credit cards (which is not necessary a given in parts of Europe). We had a fabulous time at La Buca di San Matteo di Bianchi Alessia Giorgia. The interior is warm, with the right amount of soft light, dark woods, nice background music, and an open view into the kitchen. In addition to the main Dining Room, there's an interesting and romantic "honeymoon" room, a group area, and another separate seating area. Gayle ordered the Tasting Menu, which at 28 Euros was a steal. It included multiple courses, plus a glass of wine and a bottle of water. I decided to order pasta only (Troffie al Pesto di Pinoli e Scampi) and between us, both selections were more than enough food. It was also simply delicious, and we would have licked the plate if they would have let us. This is definitely a place to have a romantic dinner with your spouse. We enjoyed the service, and having one more chance to relax, reflect, enjoy, and then happily and slowly walk back to the Hotel hand-in-hand.

Yelp
We went here because it was close, and on the basis of the good reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately the food was off the day we cane for lunch. The pasta first course was from a casserole, and it was dry, though pretty nicely flavored. The second course was pork in a violet-gray sauce, and while the sauce was not bad, the pork was a little tough and " liver-y" which was off-putting. I ordered the medley of fish cooked in foil, and while it was good, it was a little bland because of lack of seasoning, which seemed to consist solely of some slivers of lemon peel. However, the fish was fresh, so this is not a real fault, only a matter of taste. It may be that the usual chef was off this May Day, but perhaps in cases like this, the wait staff should warn us that those dishes were off, or remove the specials from the menu. The room was very nice though, and we hope that they will do some things to keep their reputation up.

Yelp
This was a delightful find. Simple and delicious food. The pork was tender and had a delicious sauce. Service was perfect. The restaurant is in the basement of an old palace belonging to the Doria family, and if you are lucky, the waiter might show you the ancient well.
