Domaine La Butte aux Bois (Lanaken, Flanders) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"On the edge of Hoge Kempen National Park, near the border of Belgium and the Netherlands, the elegant Domaine La Butte aux Bois occupies a historic estate that dates back to 1924. Though best-known for its two-MICHELIN-star restaurant Ralf Berendsen, the luxury hotel is a worthwhile destination in its own right, especially after extensive renovations in 2016 that included the addition of 20 stylish new rooms and the state-of-the-art Shiseido Ginza Tokyo Institute spa and wellness center." - Tablet Hotels

Our Favorite Getaway – 3 Visits and Counting! We’ve stayed at La Butte aux Bois three times now, and it never disappoints. The staff are always incredibly friendly and make us feel so welcome every time. The rooms are spacious, beautifully maintained, and very comfortable. The spa is absolutely amazing — a true sanctuary to relax and recharge. What we love most is the peaceful setting. Surrounded by nature, it’s perfect for long walks in the woods or cycling. It’s the ideal place to disconnect from work and everyday stress. Highly recommended for anyone looking for luxury, tranquility, and genuine hospitality. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Naturally, you arrive at a five-star hotel with high expectations. Unfortunately, we felt those expectations weren’t fully met. It’s in the finer details where you expect perfection from a hotel of this caliber. Our room had a few minor flaws that didn’t affect the overall quality of our stay, but were still noticeable. The staff were friendly, though we did find the warmth varied—some team members made a warmer impression than others.

I visited this place for a wedding party without staying at the hotel. But I can definitely say this was the most thought through, kitted out, detailed… party I have ever been at. The food was amazing, staff was so friendly I felt like I just found my long lost brother and every room has beautifully decor. Would definitely organize an event here myself, without a doubt! Also they had a lot of art/ fossil pieces from what seemed to be the cretaceous period, very pleasant to look at.

Outstanding in every way. Exceptionally friendly staff, a luxurious spa, and a delightful restaurant. The unique decor featuring jewels and fossils adds an extra touch of charm.

Eating at both restaurants it was disappointing that the Maitre d' had to scold the staff within hearing distance of the customers at the 2 star Ralf Berendsen. Followed by numerous "faces" that spoke volumes but said nothing. The staff under this individual were superb and compensated for this very unprofessional behaviour. It made my wife feel uncomfortable and whilst, it did not spoil our anniversary, it was disappointing. The food was superb......!

This was an amazing hotel ticking all boxes as the best of the best. Personal great service, topp class food, creme de la crème Spa 🇯🇵 and high end interior…real dinaosaur fossils and top notch garden. This is, like guide michelin would say, worth a long extra way for a visit. Cheers!

Great location, also to go for long walks. Nice rooms. Good food, albeit somewhat (too) pricey. Spa (regular one, not the Shiseido part) is ok, not great. Loved the hospitality.

A Disappointing Christmas Getaway with Our Dogs – La Butte aux Bois Falls Short of Expectations In mid-November, we spontaneously decided to spend a few relaxing days with our two dogs at La Butte aux Bois. The elegant presentation of the hotel and its reputation for exceptional service raised our hopes for a truly special Christmas experience. Unfortunately, our excitement was significantly dampened upon our arrival on the second day of Christmas: late in the afternoon, we were informed that all of the hotel’s restaurants were fully booked. The only alternatives offered were room service or snacks. For a hotel of this caliber – especially during the festive season – this was unacceptable and left a lasting negative impression on our trip. What made the situation even more frustrating was that, during the booking process, we had explicitly requested the hotel’s Christmas menu. To our disappointment, we were told at the time that the menu was not yet finalized. While we were advised to book spa treatments early, no mention was made of the need to reserve tables at the restaurants in advance – a critical oversight. We had been looking forward to a festive Christmas dinner in an elegant setting, but instead, we were left with room service – an option that falls far short of the standards expected at a hotel of this price point and reputation. We value excellent hospitality and thoughtful service that prioritizes the needs of its guests – both of which were glaringly absent during our stay. This Christmas trip, which we had eagerly anticipated, left us with a disappointing aftertaste. Regrettably, based on this experience, we cannot recommend La Butte aux Bois.
