Delicious casual local style restaurant. Very limited menu that rotates daily and reasonably priced. They have a few typical appetizers and then 2 pastas and 2 main dishes for dinner. We had one of each and they were all delicious. The prosciutto and melon was simple but a great starter. Both pastas were excellent. The main course we stuffed rabbit and guinea fowl. Both were new to us and good. The restaurant has a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy the ancient city and there are a few restaurants with outdoor seating all in that area. I’d definitely recommend sitting outside. Make sure to make a reservation as their is limited seating. Be patient as the staff is a small team so just enjoy your meal and the atmosphere. I will add parking in the area is limited and a bit confusing so if you aren’t already in the area leave some extra time to park and find the restaurant. I read some reviews that it isn’t a good spot for tourists. I don’t agree with that at all. I don’t think you will be able to get a table without a reservation though so that could be why others wrote that. Again definitely would recommend if you’re visiting.

Based on the positive reviews and the nice open location of the restaurant in the shadow of the trees we chose to have lunch here. We were lucky enough to still get a seat, since most tables were reserved. We both had a primi and a secondi and our two young children ate along. The pasta and gnocchi were simple but delicious. The secondi were disappointing. The fowl was simple and tasty but almost al bone (ribs and neck) and the boar was a bit dry and served with earthy tasting spinach. Consumed a bottle of water and one glass of house wine and spent 67 euro (incl 10 coperto). Next time would opt for a starter and the primi and stay away from the secondi.

Very local and traditional restaurant. We went there after a recommendation from the host of our locanda. And not to be disappeared! Great food, prices fair, everything fresh and made with care. My pheasant tagliatelle was another level of care. Loved it!

Not the cheapest in town but definitely very good food. Menu is changing daily with two or three options for each course. Service is very good and friendly as well as the atmosphere on the little square.

Very nice restaurant in the Volterra city center. From the outside seems a small bar but it's a nice restaurant curated and cozy. We love the fact that they changed the menu every day so ingredients are fresh and delicious. Everything are hand made, we took a peposo and was one of the best in my experience, also gnocchi where very good. To taste the pannacotta with vinsanto reduction. Prices are good consider the center and absolutely normal for the quality. A very good place where eat.

We waited 30 minutes to get a seat - but it was worth it. So make sure to reserve in advance if you’re planning to go here! Nice outside seating as well as inside seating available. The staff was very busy and therefore slow with service. The menu is very small but all food is fresh and prices are okay.

The restaurant across the street was far too loud and we found this nice place. Food was great, a good service and certainly great to sit outside with a glass of wine! Could certainly recommend this place.

What a fantastic little restaurant! We got the full treatment Italian style. FROM first to main. It took us a good 2 hours plus to eat and none of it was less than great. Even the wine. Yummy.

Yelp
We got there just under the wire before they closed for the afternoon. Whew! Wonderfully cozy and homey place! I lucked out with the last dish of beef stew over polenta and my husband got a amazing pasta dish. Both were to die for and just warming and delicious. We loved it so much we hoped to come back but they were booked up for the rest of the time were there, so smart to make a res. This ranks as one of our favorite meals while visiting for two weeks in Tuscany Fall 2022.

Yelp
Beautiful meal out on the piazza. Probably one of the most fresh ingredient focused eateries in Volterra. Traditional Tuscan, authentic cuisine with the beef from a local farm. Family atmosphere with all the locals. Welcoming staff. Incredible primo and secondo. No standard menu. Chef always changing it up.

Yelp
First, pasta with chicken. It reminded me my grandma's, so no more comments. Second, rabbit! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Finally, a very good red house wine. A must go in volterra!

Yelp
I really need to write a review for this place because it's one of the best place in town where you can eat real traditional food. Their dishes are generous and really tasty, the sweets that are displayed right next to the bar at the entrance are all homemade and delicious (I would recommend the chocolate salami, panna cotta and 'torta della nonna' (grandmother cake) ). There it's like a 'all you can eat' because I promise you that you will be so full at the end of the meal that you will be sad at the same time because can't eat anymore. Appetizer are big and delicious. A mix of salami, prosciutto and cheeses served with a big wood dish (il tagliere) will drive you crazy. After that, I recommend some veggie soup if you wanna stay light or a pasta dish with local sauce if you wanna be competitive. Speaking about wine, I would recommend the house's, which comes from the hills around Volterra (don't forget that your in Tuscany, the reign of wine!!). It's cheap and so good! Lastly, don't hesitate when you walk in front of the door. Just walk in and you will never regret it. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the place is filled with old-fashion stuff that make the place even more typical. Oh, by the way. I was born and raised in Volterra, and I moved to the US almost 2 years ago. I ate there almost once every 10 days, I tried all those dishes and I've never walked out unsatisfied. La Carabaccia is one of the places that I really miss. Trust me. Do you want to try and enjoy our typical dishes? Go to LA CARABACCIA.

Yelp
We came on a Friday so there was only fish available but all of our food was quite good. The waitstaff was polite and kind. Only downside was as a group of yanks we were seated in the center of a room and stared at silently by many tables of locals for the entire meal.

Yelp
Joyful experience! Wonderful food. Very nice wait staff. Warm ambience. Lovely outdoor seating option. It's small with a limited menu but if you can stop by to reserve a table ahead of time, it's well worth it. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Excellent Tuscan food. Home cooking at its best, fresh, with the Volterra love and flavor. We can't wait to return soon and enjoy their kind service and food, and especially their great prices. Of course, their house wine is just great. Nice location near everything in Volterra. Close to the plaza where you can have great views of the town and the precious Volterra landscape.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant. Quaint atmosphere. Delicious food and friendly service. We had the pasta and chicken cacciatore. Fabulous. Another in our party had the stuffed beef and she loved it. Highly recommend.
