The food here was absolutely scrumptious and transported me straight to my grandma’s kitchen. The pancakes were the absolute best I’ve ever tasted! I wish we had a place like this back home. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking for a truly memorable dining experience.

Google
It was my first time going, and the service and food were perfect. The place is very pretty and good vibes. The deserts are huge and very delicious, specially “la concha rellena”. The main dishes are well prepared and at good price for what you are given. Our server, Abigail, was very kind and attentive. 10/10 would recommend for any occasion!!! Best brunch ever!

Google
This place has completely redefined breakfast by delivering a truly authentic Mexican experience—absolutely no Tex-Mex here. It artfully fuses contemporary culinary creativity with the deep, nostalgic flavors of traditional Mexico. I ordered the Molcajete Norteño, and it was, without question, the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. More than just a dish, the molcajete is a full sensory experience—beautifully presented, sizzling with flavor, and visually captivating. The atmosphere is equally impressive—warm, vibrant, and inviting, with a distinct charm that makes you feel both excited and at home. I highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a memorable and flavorful start to their day.

Google
We heard really good things about this place and decided to check it out. The service was great! The food imo.....not so much. Even the dessert wasn't as good as I expected it to be. It tasted like it was old and wasn't soft.

Google
Our waiter Evan was attentive, friendly, and kind. He went out of his way to ask us if it was anyone’s birthday and it actually was!! It was my nephews he made it extra special with a song and desert for him. AMAZING food AMAZING service!!!

Google
I recently dined at La Casa de la Abuela, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! The food was warm, fresh, and delicious. Our waiter Adrian was incredibly polite, friendly, and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Highly recommend!

Google

Google
Abigail was an absolutely outstanding waitress. From the moment we were seated, she made us feel welcomed and comfortable with her warm and friendly demeanor. She was kind, attentive, and incredibly inviting, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Her positive attitude and genuine hospitality truly made our dining experience special. We really appreciated her professionalism and the care she put into her service. Highly recommend asking for Abigail if you get the chance!

Yelp
I had the enchiladas suizas and they were absolutely delicious! The pastries looked very tempting, too.

Desiree M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! Food never disappoints I've had the chicken chilaquiles, poblano pasta with chicken, and enchiladas suizas. Everything is so fresh and made to order! Lemonade is delicious and the stuffed concha and coffee is to die for! Our server, Antonio was so attentive, amazing, funny, and so sweet!!! He made our dining experience that much better!! Highly recommend and you should ask for Antonio when you come in!!

Yadira V.

Yelp
So elegant but the food sucks. What a waste. Very pricy for the quality of food. Seems they cooked our eggs with old oil or right after grilling meat.

Gena C.

Yelp
Excellent food!!! Unique flavors, very authentic, not Tex-Mex. Service excellent! We enjoyed our visit!

Jesus J.

Yelp
I ordered the Tampiqueña plate. It's a feast! You get two enchiladas a chicken green suiza a chicken mole. The fajita meat was tender and well balanced. The black beans lacked flavor however the rice was very delicious. The guacamole salad was on point the queso fresco was a nice touch. The rajas would have been better with fresh corn as opposed to the can corn. The cafe lechero was delicious reminded me of my childhood. For this spot not being part of the Mexican chain it's a pretty damm good copy! Service was top notch. The ambiance is very welcoming. The cafe lechero refills are not complementary and neither is the sweet bread (which looks amazing) overall a great tasting breakfast but not $40.52 for 1 person (not including tip)

Yanelly L.

Yelp
Loud and overstimulating. Took forever to take drink order. Took forever on order.. Servers never came back to check on us for drinks. Basically overpriced mid Mx food. Paying for the aesthetic

Christian P.

Yelp
This place is a gem, absolutely delicious. Ask for Tomas and he will take care of you. The food, the service and the ambiance all top notch.

Yelp
I was visiting the valley and was looking for a place to eat with my family and we found this place. It took us a while to get seated but it was understandable because it was busy. The food was amazing! It has that homemade touch/ taste to it. My party of 8 really enjoyed their food, drinks, and mimosa! They give you a good amount of food and you get really full. The service was amazing! I wished I remembered our servers name , she was super sweet and nice. It's a super cute girly place to go for brunch. I really recommend this place!

Yelp

Gilbert R.

Yelp
Visited establishment with my wife for breakfast, but after reviewing the overpriced menu decided no to eat there. Good thing, because when I asked the waiter for the receipt, he overcharged ($12) us. After having a brief discussion he acted very rude and placed on the table two dollars. We left and decided not to come here anymore. If you ever in Monterrey, MX, just go to the original restaurant where they make you feel welcome and are respectful. Don't forget to order the cornbread! It's what placed Abuelas, on the map...

Laura V.

Yelp
We ate at the location on W. Trenton. It was amazing. Service was great and atmosphere was so fun!

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
I am impressed this is one of those places that don't expect to get good food, service, good drinks and a beautiful place all in one but it is ! Good portions, delicious food, migas and the pozole were simply delicious! The only thing I will change was how the pozole was garnished with lettuce and cilantro which it's not the traditional way to serve the pozole but was approved with 5 stars for its flavor ! Desert was the concha de La abuela for my taste, overboard sweet but it was different. The lemonade and mimosas were refreshing! Kudos to the Managment the staff was amazing our waiter was Enrique and Nydia both were attentive and prompt to every request.

Alex T.

Yelp
pleased with the excellent service and food I received at this location. thanks for the great tex mex! I highly recommend the enchiladas!

Alita Q.

Yelp

Rony P.

Yelp
Great place for brunch with the family. The staff was very attending and nice. The food was great. Our family ordered the build your own chilaquiles which were great, served with a side of black beans, and potatoes, avocado, and any protein, and salsa you want. Also ordered Almuerzo de la Abuela which was great, and the huevos norteños, which my dad thoroughly enjoyed. Their panqueues are so yummy as well. The cafe de olla was delicious as well. Definitely a must try. My only negatives are that any salsa extra you ask for is charged "a la carte", and there are bottles of water on the tables, and boxes of sweet bread on your table, however, they are not samples. They will be added to your bill if consumed and are mostly just to look at. The pastries in the shelf were all pretty to look but didn't seem fresh and were a bit stiff when we brought them home and tried them. Oh and there is also an extra 4% added to your bill for any card transaction so just be prepared for that. Overall great experience. Nice to go once in a while. Our check came out to $200, for a family of 6 adults and 2 children. Will definitely come back to try some more on their fabulous menu.

Omar L.

Yelp
Didn't get in and got an earful because I didn't prepare properly and they didn't specifically say anything to begin with their yelp said they opened at 11 and they said they opened at 6

Leslie T.

Yelp
the ambiance was very nice! decorations were cute and the servers were welcoming. i really liked the salsas that came with the free chips, and i really liked the enfrijoladas. i normally don't go for chorizo but they added a really nice touch to the enfrijoladas that i can see myself wanting again later. my mom also really liked the chile rellenos, and she says she normally has a hard time finding good ones at restaurants. it was a bit pricey so i'm not sure when i will be back but it was a great experience!

Kat G.

Yelp
I guess I came here on the wrong day. It smelled like someone had food poisoning and didn't close the door before flushing. Services was ok, we did have to stand up to get the attention from the waitress for some ketchup. The food was definitely overpriced, 20 dollars for a poorly seasoned milanesa, a smear of beans, and frozen fries? This establishment looks beautiful as well as the food but with the smell and taste... I definitely wasted my money here.

Pablo G.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in the RGV area. It's very well decorated. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. La torta de la abuela is a must! It can definitely be shared with 4 people. La Abuela's Breakfast (the one of the photo) was pretty good, but I tried the chilaquiles on another visit and they were excellent!

David.A M.

Yelp
Lovely place that displayed great ambiance. Food was delightful. Had a great service from Tomas. Would definitely come again.

Esther V.

Yelp
Food was a trip back in time! Thank you for helping us celebrate our little sister's birthday. Edgar was great!

Gloria C.

Yelp
El restaurante es bonito , nuevo y bien decorado ( el de la calle Trenton. El chile relleno de queso es bueno. El servicio es rápido

Diana Z.

Yelp
Not the best picture I took ik It says Mexican restaurant but it's kind of Americanized IMO.. it is aesthetically pleasing though! The mimosas are strong, defo recommend a brunch day with the girls. Everything was reasonably priced also. Don't let anybody's opinion discourage you, I recommend you try it anyway. cute place

Ruben Q.

Yelp
Waste of money and time. We checked in and the wait was 20 mins, not bad I left my name and stepped outside. We came back after 15 mins and they had called 2 parties that checked in after us. They were short staffed so I'll start there but the coffee wasn't filtered correctly I could see coffee grounds in it. The table creamers had mold. Egg was over cooked on one plate, my scrambled eggs were more like egg torta. My wife's plate had an excessive amount of salsa on it. To top it off my plate had a hair on it.

DJ S.

Yelp
Best Mexican food place in RGV! I am a complete food snob. I hate everything, and this place blew me away. The ambiance, the staff, and my goodness the mole sauce was phenomenal! The desert, amazing. Don't miss this onIf I could give 6 starts I would. The waiter, Thomas, greeted me by name when I walked in after coming here only Twice a month ago. So good and so much variety, so I'm in McAllen from Florida working and will probably eat here every day.

Kyle A.

Yelp
I can see why so many low ratings. Food ok. Service horrible. I finished my iced tea and they took it to get refill. Brought my food. Never checked back until I finished my meal and never brought tea refill. By end of meal I realized why this place has plenty of seating and across the street is full with people waiting out door.

Yelp
This is the second time I have been to this restaurant and I think they recently made some changes for the better. While I was here during a down time the service was quick and attentive. We got all of our food and drinks quickly and they even came around with a cart of sweet bread so we could have our pick. On my last visit, like other reviews below, I noticed that their background music was way too loud. This last time however they lowered it significantly and I like to think this was due to customer feedback which is a big plus for me. Shows they are trying to make their guests more comfortable and adjust to their audience. I believe this to be a sign of good management. All the food we had as well as the coffee was delicious and the portion sizes quite generous. I have not yet had dinner here, but if you are looking for a slightly more upscale breakfast option I would greatly recommend giving them a chance. Side note: I do recommend calling ahead if visiting on Sunday though.

Minnie P.

Yelp
Food was delicious (Avocado toast); service was good. Their bread & pastry window looked fresh and delicious. Plan on going back.

Gigi G.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place. Walked in and walked right out. The place smelled like hard boiled egg or like my 95 yr old grandpa sat in soiled pad and stunk up the place. Too bad it looked great.

Patricia L.

Yelp
Had breakfast with my friend a few weeks ago. First time. It was good, but pricy. Tomas was fantastic.

Kathryn R.

Yelp
The ambience and food was good pricing was average staff was very friendly. But however the one downfall was food was delivered separately my husband had to wait almost 25 minutes for his plate to be delivered to our table it was not even busy. Never once did management come to acknowledge our table only until after my husband got his plate and the rest of the family had finished their meals did the manager ask how he was doing. Poor management.

M Q.

Yelp
I ordered some Mexican-style eggs and it was more onion and tomato than egg and truth be told, it didn't taste that good. I think the prices are too high for the quality of the food. Although my husband ordered chilaquiles and he says those were very good and the orange juice was fresh.

Veronica R.

Yelp
LOVE IT HERE! Perfect place for a date, Brunch, dinner for any occasion. It's a nice atmosphere they're very attentive but the only thing is that it is in a small place. But the food is amazing prices are perfect. Loved this molcajete, it was delicious

Felicia C.

Yelp
I highly recommend this restaurant. We stopped by for a quick bite to eat and it did not disappoint. We all order the Tampiquena which had 1 mole enchilada, 1 green enchilada, poblano strips (which were delicious), a strip of fajitas, avocado, rice and black beans. My favorite enchilada was the green one, the fajitas were so tender and delicious, the poblano strips were my favorite side. With my meal I ordered a strawberry cucumber lemonade which was very refreshing. Since there was so much food and we were pretty full we didn't get to try the deserts. They looked fabulous though and we're looking forward to stopping by again to try some out.

Yelp
Yesterday I was in the mood for Mexican food. Been here before so it was a no Brainer, or so I thought. We arrive, place is packed. Again, no problem. The Manager (?) gives us 2 menus and we are seated. And this is where it all goes DOWNHILL. The servers are going back and forth on this large guest table. And one other server on the other side to the tables of 2. 2 minutes, 5minutes, 10 minutes passes. Manager is on his phone, has pass by us 5 times. The other server is too focused on that one table he doesn't bother to go by us. Manager AGAIN, too focused on his cell phone and it was like we weren't there. My husband and I got up and left. You are as strong as your weakest link and if management can stand up and be on the phone, but cannot have the courtesy to apologize that the servers are busy, but he will get us something to drink and STARTERS.....THEN WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU IN THE RESTAURANT BUSINESS???!!! IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS STAND UP AND CHECK ON YOUR PHONE, and not incoming customers, work at a store. This is disappointing. What happened to management, what on EARTH HAPPENED TO SERVICE? We went to Los Asados on Ware, get a table and less that 10 seconds we are asked what we want to drink and that place was BUSY. If you are still clueless about the restaurant business go to Los Asados. Sit there for 4 hours and see how are they rocking it. It's a shame I have to put LA Casa de la Abuela on the "try at your own risk". SHAME SHAME SHAME. What happened to you guys

Vincent M.

Yelp
OMG! This restaurant was a knockout from start to finish! La Concha de la Abuela was the best piece of pan dulce I have ever had in all of my life! 5/5 stars! Do yourself a major solid and go for brunch next weekend!

Elaine S.

Yelp
A very homey and family-oriented feeling of a restaurant. The staff was excellent and very warm and welcoming. We had an awesome waiter too! I chose this place as a first-time lunch visit on a weekend visit to this part of Texas. I liked the reviews here and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. My friend ordered a breakfast meal and I had an awesome chef salad with shrimp. I especially liked how they prepared my salad and the shrimp was a bit toasty, sort of, and I loved how they prepared this salad. It was a piece of art. Excellent! Finally, I wanted to comment on the restaurant decor. Very cute place, ambiance was relaxing, perfect. I especially loved the lighting fixtures! Beautiful place, loved the food. Would definitely return here and recommend this dining experience. Thank you!

Eli S.

Yelp
Super lowkey place by Palms Crossing. Found it driving around the area. Food and atmosphere will not disappoint you. We were surprised to see how big the plates of food were. Waiters were nice and considerate. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I was happy.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Loved this place! Just about everything is delicious! We got this cake like desert. I'm not a desert person and yet I had 2 pieces! So yummy!

Kimberly C.

Yelp
If you enjoy Traditional Mexican food this is the place to go. The location is very nice the waiters are always welcoming and the service is great. First time I went I had the Avocado toast and Caesar salad. Both were great, the vanilla concha was also so good I've never had anything like it and would definitely recommend!

Mary R.

Yelp
This was our first and last time in this place. We went by on a Sunday afternoon and the place was empty, that should have been a red flag. We ordered a parrillada with beef, chicken and sausage. This is the saddest parrillada I have ever ordered in any restaurant. the beef or chicken was not grilled or cooked properly, and the sausage was so thin, I thought they were pepperoni slices. The majority of the platter/plate consisted mostly of onions and bell peppers. We ordered an order for two people, it looked more like for one person. The rice and black beans were cold. I enjoyed the guacamole and chips, and the iced tea. They do have a display of pan dulce, I almost confused this place for a bakery when I walked in.

Stephany C.

Yelp
If it wasn't because of the service, I would have given more stars. Let me start by saying the wait time is more than usual which is semi understandable. When we finally got called in we still had to wait for the table to be ready even though " your table is ready". When we sat down it took the waiter a bit to get our drink orders once he got the drink order, we continued to wait for him to finish whatever he was doing to get our food order. Our food order took about 45mins to almost an hour. We ordered a milanesa torta, a breakfast torta , and Migas norteñas. When we finally got our food, we had to wait for the waiter to finish making drinks for another table to even be asked if we needed something. I had to get up to get utensils, napkins, and salsa and by then my food was cold. Honestly who likes cold eggs . The milanesa needed salt and more seasoning and it was also cold. The manager seemed to not be fazed by what was going on or the fact that I had to get up to get utensils. The waiters excuse was " I forgot about the stuff and we didn't have any clean utensils ." When the manager saw that I was asking for things, instead of taking it upon himself to get things for us or even the other tables he processed to keep walking and continued looking at the waitlist. The service needs some work, in order to have a good experience. The food is good, could be better if eaten hot instead of cold. After we finished our food, the waiter nor the manager ever came up to us to ask if we needed anything else. It's really sad to know that we had a bad experience and couldn't give a better review for the food. Sorry no pics since we were hungry and upset. The menu has ALL their prices whiteout for the price that they charge the service should be better.

Peter D.

Yelp
The food was amazing! The staff are super friendly and very welcoming. The place is super cute and chik! I would totally come back. Oh and the mimosas were so freaking good! The Orange juice is fresh and when I mean fresh, im sure they're freshly squish there!!!

Christy B.

Yelp
The food was delicious and definitely will be returning to try out the breakfast menu. Edgar was our server and he gave us top notch service throughout our meal. 5 stars to La Casa de la Abuela.

Sheila G.

Yelp
Food and coffee was ok, but for the price it should have been excellent. The decor was very nice. Customer service was average.

Gloria M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at La Casa de la Abuela. Great service, delicious food, and a refreshing cucumber drink. My husband and I shared this parrillada($32), and we had lots of leftovers. So for $32, we had lunch and dinner. I would recommend this place.

Estefanía B.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the food is actually decent, but it is by far the most terrible service experience I've had in many years. I made a reservation days ago for breakfast, my family arrived and got seated, but when I got there they made us move to another table because the one they gave us was "already reserved" but time passed and the party it was reserved for never arrived. We ordered cafes lecheros, some were warm but some were pretty cold. The food got delayed, and when it finally arrived it was at different times. I ended up eating alone because everyone else had already finished, and we decided to wait for my food to arrive, but it started getting cold. Also need to mention that some of the plates were incomplete, and when the rest of the things arrived they were almost done eating. Also, the place is super crowded, no social distance whatsoever. All the tables are next to eachother and there is barely any room to walk around the place! Go in the middle of the week for a step up on service!

Neomi L.

Yelp
Cute looking place, the music was a little off. The presentation of the food was nice but food itself not so good. I also wish the waiter would've been a little more attentive.
