An open letter to La Casa Gelato: (since they don't have an email / contact info on their website).
Dear La Casa Gelato Team,
In the past, I would have rated La Casa Gelato 5 stars, but the new no sampling policy and my recent experience with a super melty double scoop have changed my perspective. When it's hot out, the fridge temperature needs to be adjusted to keep the gelato from melting. I'm paying for gelato, not melted cream.
238 Flavors And No Samples?
I've been coming to La Casa since I moved to Vancouver in 1996. That's nearly three decades.
La Casa Gelato's impressive selection of 238 flavors is what sets you apart from other ice cream shops. Flavors like lavender, basil, durian fruit, pear and gorgonzola, wasabi, and chai tea are intriguing and adventurous, but often unfamiliar to most customers. Sampling These Unique Flavors Allows Us To Explore Your Offerings With Confidence, Leading To More Informed And Enthusiastic Purchases.
In my experience, and I know many would agree, the opportunity to try a flavor first often leads to purchasing a full scoop or even a larger order.
Samples encourage customers to venture beyond their comfort zones, exploring the diverse options you provide. Without samples, customers might hesitate to try new flavors, which could limit their choices to more conventional ones, potentially impacting sales negatively.
I've purchased quite a few unique flavors like basil, lavender, chai, and various coffee varieties because of sampling. I've brought my family there. I've told people about it.
The no sampling policy sign mentions rising costs as the reason for this change. What You Don't seem to Realize Is That The Long-Term Benefits Of Offering Samples--Enhancing Customer Satisfaction And Encouraging Repeat Visits--Far Outweigh The Immediate Costs.
Sampling Helps Customers Explore New Flavors, Ensuring They Get Exactly What They Want. This satisfaction leads to repeat business and word-of-mouth promotion, which is the lifeblood of any business.
Sampling helps new customers connect with your brand and makes visiting La Casa Gelato memorable and enjoyable. When I can't sample a flavor at any ice cream shop and end up not liking it, I don't go back. Sampling is how I ensure I'm getting something I'll enjoy.
La Casa is the first ice cream shop I know of that doesn't offer samples. It's petty, short-sighted, and for that reason, you've lost my business. That means a minimum of bi-monthly double scoop purchases, year-round, plus friends and family.
We vote with our dollars. You've made a big mistake by not giving samples, and anyone with common sense can see that. Instead of offering, say, three sampling spoons per person at the till or a similar compromise, you could curtail anyone who may be taking advantage of sampling. The amount of ice cream on those little spoons is ridiculously small but enough to taste--so Thinking That Retracting The Sampling Policy Is Going To Help Stabilize Or Mitigate Rising Costs Is Absurd.
I hope you consider reinstating the sampling policy, as it greatly enhances the customer experience and aligns with the spirit of innovation and variety that La Casa Gelato represents.
Until then, I've taken my business elsewhere, and I see others have too. Vancouver has plenty of gelato and ice cream parlors.
