Where to Stay in Oaxaca on Your Trip (Updated 2025)

"Right on Parque Llano and about a 15-minute walk from the Zócalo, this traditional hotel centers its rooms around a beautiful garden and serves a delicious breakfast (and tasty traditional cuisine throughout the day) in its restaurant. The rooms are rustic and quiet—the interior may be a bit outdated—but the staff are super friendly, the Wi‑Fi is strong, and the water pressure is great. I love staying here and, when we used to run tours, this is where we stayed with our groups." - Matthew Kepnes

The 5 Best Hotels in Oaxaca (Updated 2025)

"Right on Parque Llano and about a 15-minute walk from the main square, this pleasant three‑star hotel has rooms centered around a beautiful garden and a restaurant that serves a delicious breakfast buffet (and food throughout the day). The simply decorated rooms are rustic and quiet — a bit dated inside but equipped with AC, cable TV, a desk, and strong Wi‑Fi; the bathrooms are clean with great water pressure. If you have a vehicle, there’s free parking, and I love staying here so much that when we used to run tours in Oaxaca, this is where we stayed with our groups. It’s a no‑frills, affordable choice in a really convenient location." - Matthew Kepnes

Once again, we need to judge this hotel on the category of traditional hotel, not compared to the Ritz! We loved our visit. We found this last minute on a booking platform as we had a "booking fail" when we arrived in town for a 1 week visit. Our first night was in the garden area and was fine, but we moved to a front "rooftop" room for the balance of the week. It had a view of the park across the street (which does come with some noise, but festive noise). We didn't eat at the restaurant but it was often busy for breakfast and dinner. We did have cool-off drinks there a couple times and it was nice. The staff was always helpfull (free glasses of ice to take to the room, etc). The location was great: 8 mins walk to the main pedestrian strip and a good grocery store right around the corner (snacks and drinks for the room). Room was totally fine - good AC as well as fresh air window, good hot water and clean room.

Too bad! Food without taste, very generic, bread was like stone and old, table was unstable, staff never fixed; and the prices are very high for what was the food so the only thing you pay is for being in an old house, just that… it doesn’t worth to be honest I never recommend being there

Perfect hotel for service, food, location and budget. Rooms are basic but clean, spacious and comfy. But why I am writing this review - is for everything else. Why spend money on an expensive hotel when you hardly spend any time in it - the magical city of Oaxaca takes you out all day, everyday. There is so so much to enjoy! And if you want a good meal and a drink on their terrace overlooking the park - you can have that too. Great place to stay.

Bad sleep due to super noisy AC unit in room 19. We took a shower and water did not drain at all. Flushed the toilet and huge pool of water on the floor making it risky and dangerous of slip and falls. Plug 🔌 used by the desk did not charge at all my cell phone.

**My Memorable Visit to the Casona del Llano** Last time I visited this café, I ordered a comforting hot chocolate. To my delight, the waiter surprised me with four little breads accompanied by jam and butter. These breads were, without a doubt, the most delicious I've ever tasted in Mexico. The unexpected treat elevated my dining experience, leaving a lasting impression. However, today's visit didn't quite match that delightful memory. I ordered the same hot chocolate, but this time, I received only the beverage itself. Curious, I asked the waiter if there was more to come. In response, he directed my attention to the menu. I mentioned the delightful breads from my previous visit, and the waiter kindly explained that they were specifically for breakfast. Despite this, he graciously brought me a small portion of bread and butter. While there was a miscommunication, I appreciate the effort to make things right. Next time, I hope my experience aligns with those scrumptious breads that left such a positive mark on my taste buds! 🥐🍞

I went to the hotel to evaluate it for next winter. I was completely turned off. The lobby seemed dilapidated and the staff acted bored. I tried the restaurant, which was worse. I ordered the Guacamole Salad Plate. It consisted of leaves of butter lettuce spread on a plate with a huge mound of shredded soft cheese [rubbery, like mozzarella] and a sliced whole avocado. There was no dressing! The complimentary chips and salsa were the only tasty part of the meal. I took 2/3rd of the salad to go and gave it to a beggar. I arrived before the dinner rush. There was 1 waiter and 1 other occupied table. The service was still very slow. I won't return.

My study abroad program from my university had us stay here for two weeks. We all enjoyed staying here for class. They were very accommodating and mindful of us foreigners using their space for lectures. Although it is not a popular choice for the USA tourists, we found it to be comfortable, beautiful, and had good food every morning for breakfast. The staff are around 24/7 for any concerns, so it is very safe. I would recommend this hotel especially for families and those studying abroad in Oaxaca.

Very good location with basic, smallish rooms that are impeccably clean. Daily maid service, hot showers, highly functional A/C and fan, lovely garden and super kind staff made our family stay wonderful. The location is ideal across the street from Parque Llano, and close to lovely streets with many restaurants, including 100% Natural for healthy juices and smoothies.||Affordable hotel. We also enjoyed breakfasts and lunches at the hotel restaurant. Will absolutely stay again.
