La Casona del Viajante - Adults Only, a Design Boutique Hotel La Villa Baxu, Spain

"La Casona del Viajantes is a beautifully-renovated 1930s ‘Indiano’-style house. It has been converted into stylish rural hotel with traditional stained-glass windows, mosaics and woodwork. It sits on 7000 metres of grassland in Villabajo. The rooms have air-conditioning/heating, a TV and separate bathroom with hairdryer. Some have a terrace and maintain their original wooden beams. La Casona has a dining room for breakfast and dinner, a library and a small gallery. There is also a bar where guests can help themselves to drinks. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. La Casona is less than 1 hours’ drive from the Picos de Europa National Park and Redes Nature Reserve. Ría de Villavicios Nature Reserve and the cities of Oviedo and Gijón are all about 30 minutes’ drive away. Activities can be organised for guests including quad biking and horse riding. The nearest golf course is 17 km away in Villaviciosa." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

We were a little wary about booking the Casona del Viajante as it didn't have any reviews at the time, being so newly opened. However, we were so glad we took a punt - it really is the most brilliant place. ||||The owners have taken so much care in its renovation - and in every element of the experience. The house is in a beautiful location and the interior is incredibly stylish and sensitively done. And the food is fantastic - great breakfasts - fresh bread and fruit, local meats and cheeses, home-baked goodies, eggs, coffee and juice. And as we didn't want to drive out for dinner, we ate there both evenings too and had the best food of our holiday. ||||Prices were very reasonable - comparable to local restaurants - but the quality was much higher than other places we ate at. Dinners need to be pre-ordered but this was no problem - we frankly wanted to order everything they had, and the owners even provided an English menu for us. As a guide, starters were from about 4 euros to 8-10 for the really special dishes, mains mostly around 10-14 euros with a fantastic steak the most expensive at 18 (two inches thick) and desserts about 3 euros. ||||For the quality of food, this was incredible. The owners even printed us out a recipe for our favourite dish. There is also a small but perfectly formed wine list with wine by the bottle at a range of prices. The 'honesty box bar' was also very welcome, with drinks enjoyed outside on a shaded terrace. ||||Totally brilliant place run by lovely people, who were very helpful and kind despite our frankly rubbish attempts at speaking Spanish. Brilliant little hideaway in a beautiful part of the world. Go before everyone else discovers it!

La Casona del Viajante is a beautifully decorated B&B run by a wonderful couple. Our party had two rooms on the top floor. Both were configured as junior suites with generous sitting areas. One room was decorated in a kind of 60s lounge lizard kitsch and the other wicker contemporary with Moorish accents. There are two nice airy sitting rooms one with a coffee bar and the other with an alcohol bar. Outside is a large decked sitting area with a lovely view of the surrounding hills. The hosts are wonderful people who despite speaking very little English cheerfully always manage to communicate. The breakfast is very high quality with fine local cheeses, preserves, yoghurts and jamon iberico. fresh baked cakes and pastries, etc. ||||One of the big bonuses of staying at Casona del Viajante is Pusaki, a restaurant about 15 minutes away. Pusaki is a tiny hidden gem of a restaurant with a brilliant young chef cooking world class fine dining food in a modestly restored derelict farm house. He cooks alone in the kitchen and offers only a single six course tasting menu for an amazing price €32.00. In an 11 day trip across northern Spain, dining at several 3, 2, and 1 star Michelin restaurants, Pusaki was without at doubt the best meal we had. Make no mistake Patricio at Pusaki is the real deal. If you are in Asturias, stay at Casona del Viajante and eat at Pusaki. It will be the highlight of your trip.

Stylish, beautifully appointed, gorgeously restored “indiano” mansion in a small town surrounded by green lawns and pastures. Maria Antonia, the proprietor is lovely. She is gracious, warm and attentive. She serves an elegant breakfast on crisp white tablecloth in the gazebo. Surrounded by the spectacular Asturias scenery, we felt we had stumbled onto our own secret Shangri-La. Do not hesitate to book, you will not regret it!

Stayed for three nights in July, for 2 nights in terrace room and one night in a room looking over the gardens. Hotel is situated in a tiny village overlooking the infiesto valley - recently renovated and in lovely condition.||||The owners of the hotel were the most wonderful hosts and made our stay particularly special. Despite our poor Spanish we had great fun together communicating in various forms of English, Spanish and sign language! They gave us a wealth of useful information about the area and were keen to make sure we enjoyed every moment of our visit. Their attention at meals was particularly welcome - Francisco is a tremendous cook and produced two wonderful evening meals, including delicious local meats and fish at very reasonable prices. Breakfasts were also very good, with eggs from their own chickens.||||Rooms were beautifully done, with local soaps in the bathroom and very smart furnishings. Gardens absolutely beautiful with relaxing seating areas under trees and canopies. ||||One of the most lovely hotels we have stayed in and a place we will recommend highly to friends and family visiting Asturias.

If you are in the stunning Asturias area, don't miss this beautiful hotel! Known as an "Indian" house - built by wealthy Spanish who returned to Spain in the 1930's, its on a quiet road in pretty countryside. The house/hotel has been lovingly, thoughtfully and sympathetically restored and decorated in excellent style and taste. Its like home from home. We had a very comfortable bed in a beautiful room with bathroom ensuite. A nice touch were the gowns and slippers. We didn't have time to slip down to the they sitting room where you can have a alcoholic drink or a cup of coffee or tea. Paco and Maria Antonia, the hosts make you feel right at home and nothing is too much trouble for them - they called a taxi for us to head to a local town for dinner. Don't miss Breakfast - their Spanish Tortilla and Orange cake is to die for! Thanks for a lovely stay!
