La Chartreuse du Bignac (Saint-Nexans, Nouvelle Aquitaine) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"An hour and a half from Bordeaux, deep in the Dordogne countryside, a beautiful 17th-century manor house once belonging to a Catholic order has been lovingly restored by its husband-and-wife owners and opened to travelers under the name of La Chartreuse du Bignac. It’s a house that’s both grand and yet somehow humble, possessed of a certain ramshackle charm even as the experience is elevated into luxury territory." - Tablet Hotels

I loved this place! This lovely little estate in the country is the perfect escape. It's just so peaceful. My room was spacious and well-appointed and opening the window to the view out over the valley welcomed in the birdsong and fresh country air, which made for a relaxing nap after my travels. There are many walks suggested, from just around the property (through the orchards or by the pond) through to several hour-long walks to neighboring villages, which will get you ready for your amazing dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was just fantastic! As were the staff in the restaurant and the concierge, who were attentive and made some good suggestions for places to go as I continued on my travels. Highly recommend.

We have (only) been to the Restaurant a second time and the food is very nice both in quality, combination and presentation We have our evenings there. Especially worth a visit during summertime for an aperitif on the terrasse. We also appreciated that we could bring our (wellbehaved) dogs

This establishment labels itself as a 4-star hotel, but it actually resembles more of an estate because the owner mentioned that the whole mountain belongs to their family. The beauty of the scenery can overflow through the pictures. The entire mountain is a place for guests to explore. For travelers with drones, please note that there is a no-fly zone nearby. The black cat and dog of the homeowner are both very polite. 🛌Room Facilities: The beds and pillows are of 4-star standards, with comfortable pillows that you can sink into for a good night's sleep. There is a dressing room. There is air conditioning, but the mode of the air conditioning is locked, guests can only adjust the temperature, this restriction is unnecessary! Guests need to bring their own plug adapter. Complimentary water and small biscuits are provided. There is a coffee machine and a kettle in the room, but the water boiled by the kettle is turbid. 🚿Bathroom: Separate wet and dry areas. There are stairs. There is a hairdryer, hand soap, shampoo, shower gel, cotton swabs, makeup remover cotton, body lotion, shower cap, shoe polish, bathrobe, and slippers. This is the first hotel I've encountered in France that provides slippers in over 10 days of stay. Guests need to bring their own conditioner, facial cleanser, toothbrush, toothpaste, and comb. The shower has plenty of hot water, a large water flow rate, and fast water speed. The shower area is not completely enclosed, and water may splash outside. The hot and cold water taps for the sink are controlled separately. 🦚Environment: It is relatively quiet at night, and guests with good hearing may hear birdsong, after all, this is an estate in the midst of nature, and some of the trees are home to birds. During the day, you can hear many birds discussing inside. There is a swimming pool and private parking. In the evening, you can sit on the hilltop and watch the sunset. 📶The Wi-Fi signal is quite stable, better than some city guesthouses. There is no front desk service after 8 pm, and the entire estate, apart from the restaurant and guest room area, is pitch dark. There is no nightlife nearby, and the restaurant is not open every evening. It seems that there are hidden talents here, and the waitstaff in the restaurant could also be chefs. Please forgive the mess in the bathroom. My dog accidentally fell into a mud pit while playing in the backyard, not once but twice. He ended up covered in mud, looking incredibly dirty. I even searched on google to see if dogs that fall into mud pits can still be kept.

I absolutely LOVE it here. This was our second visit. Beautifully family owned and run property. Grounds are impeccable, rooms are spacious and give you the BEST nights sleep, and the restaurant is so interesting and delicious. Do. Not. Hesitate. Oh! And there is a really really cute dog.

My wife and I stayed for just one night. We wished it could have for longer. Reviews normally stress the poor aspects of the stay. For us, there weren't any. Pleasant staff who quietly and discretely made our stay so enjoyable. The only probem? It is too far from our home in the UK for a short stay!

The staff was very nice. The rooms are cosy, but the bathrooms are a bit outdated although perfectly clean. The view from the dinner tables is incredible, and the food outstanding. There is also a very nice garden for the children. Recommended!

Unique blend of comfortable accommodation and superb food, set within extensive grounds, with views over verdant rolling countryside. Excellent large swimming pool with more than adequate sun loungers etc. Host made a special effort on our last morning at breakfast to check we had enjoyed our visit. Would highly recommend.
