"La Chope des Puces Tempted by trendier bistros in the area, tourists rarely stop by this nondescript café on the corner of the Rue des Rosiers at the St.-Ouen flea market unless they are gypsy jazz fans. Aficionados from across the globe know that La Chope is the place to hear the best of gypsy jazz in Parisand where the spirit of Django Reinhardt lingers. Businessman (and jazz guitarist)Marcel Campion saved the historic spot from destruction, opening a jazz school upstairs, sponsoring master classes, and providing accommodationsfor wandering talent. Concerts are held every Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Reservations not required."

The food was really delicious but the service was a little brash. Not rude; but they slapped everything down with little regard for the guest. The music was amazing! Go there for that: and the moules. The best I’ve ever had. BUT watch out for being ripped off. We ordered a carafe of rose wine and were served a pitcher of incredibly watered down rose. I complained and it was replaced. Then, when we asked to pay, they have a round number of 120 euros which I knew to be incorrect. I challenged the manager and then they broke the bill down they came to a lower amount. Obviously they get a lot of tourists here; most of whom probably can’t speak French and so I feel they were taking advantage. But do keep an eye and call out any mistakes or issues. Food and music were amazing though!

Had a brilliant time here with three locals. The music was excellent, as was the ambiance. A chalk board menu with lots of french classics. I had blanquette de veau. Around 22 euros par plat. The wine was a little over priced, I thought, but the service was excellent and it was packed with people enjoying themselves.

Shhh. Best kept secret. Saturday lunch. Veal parmentier, cassoullet, amazing frites, and guitar driven live jazz inspired by Django Reinhardt. Inspired fret work.

This is a bar on one side and a larger bar/dinner/music venue on the other side (through the back). We only went you the bar side, on a Sunday afternoon after looking around the markets. Really loved the bar, the music, the staff (family run I think). A little gem of a place to be honest! Some things to know: Live music - it’s a bar based on jazz music so you pay slightly more for drinks but you get musicians playing. Don’t think of the prices as the same as another bar - you’re paying also for the music! The musicians rotate in and out so there’s great variety. It can be very busy, then quiet, then busy again. Wait around a bit and you find a seat. Because it can get very busy, maybe don’t try and bring a big group here during the busy times.

Big Django/jazz manouche fans from US. Owners took good care of us made sure we were seated first available and that we had a hot tea. We do not drink and were still made comfortable. The musicians were all incredible. One of the highlights of our trip and a must see. Wanted to give a tip for keeping Django’s memory and the tradition alive. Merci beaucoup, see you guys next year!

I wish I could give this place 100 stars. Beyond doubt, this was the highlight of our recent trip to Paris. The music was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The mysicians were superlative, absolutely brilliant. I was totally transported by the place as well. Food was very good. Atmosphere off the charts with probably some of the best music you could hear in all of Paris. I will make that a must anytime I am lucky enough to return to this amazing city. The market in the area was also interesting to see while there. One of the most memorable things we have done in Paris and since we have friends there, have been many times.

Yelp
Sunday afternoon jam session was F-ing brilliant. Various guys playing not so much 'manouche'/Django style, but more 'modern'. And they JAMMED -- incredibly talented, tasteful musicians. Including one young guy who must have been 15 yrs old at most -- made me totally envious of his skill :). Fun, boisterous crowd. I was on cloud 9 when I left (beers helped :).
