5 best hidden food markets to explore in Barcelona - SilverKris

"Located near Gaudí’s famed residential buildings, this late‑19th‑century market is known for its airy iron-and-glass structure and the 24/7 flower stalls that give it the popular nickname of the Flower Market. Inside, specialist stalls champion the Mediterranean diet: a boutique-style counter focuses on Les Garrigues olive oils (including a prized 100% Arbequina) and regional wines, while small bars keep local rituals alive by serving simple favourites such as pincho de tortilla and weekly specialities like a rich callos tripe stew. The market’s butcher and flower-heavy calendar (Christmas blooms and Saint George’s Day roses) make it a festive destination for both everyday shopping and seasonal splurges." - Mireia Font

Google
Great market in the inside and out, the building itself is beautiful and in the inside you’ll find fresh ingredients and on the outside lots of gorgeous flowers 🌺 It’s definitely worth going to explore

Google
Great neighborhood market for L'Eixample district. Also a nice selection of plants for your home too on top of great meats, cheeses, fish, and fruits!

Google
I have to start by saying that.I only attend this market to go to the flower and plant shop of Navarro, at the very back of the market. If you want to visit as a tourist , this is not the right place for you , as it is very local for the people that live close by there is not a lot of variety and every time I go I feel that is lacking in more products. I am one that likes to purchase from local vendors and help the local producers, but I also like to be able to choose within an variety of different things and this is not the place.

Google
This is a special place! All food, fish vegetables, bakery and fruit, so delicious! World’s food favorites collected in one cozy warehouse in center of Barcelona. Love it.

Google
A hidden gem in Barcelona. Though it is not big, it is very clean, organized, and has a nice modern interior decor! Fresh produces and seafood are available at a fairly reasonable price! Plus there are a supermarket and huge florist shop inside the market as well!

Google
Absolutely gorgeous open market with plenty of top-tier vendors. The produce and seafood were standouts to me, as was the florist at one of the entrances.

Google
An interesting matket with lovely architecture. Mostly meat and cheeze, some fruits. Most stalls, unfortunately, were empty.

Google
A small market in the centre of Barcelona As it is less known than Boqueria, do not expect crowds of tourists. However, be prepared that the vendors speak little English, although they will try to help you, so it will be a great experience A great choice of fresh fruit, vegetables, as well as cheeses and cured meats A big plant and flower shop near the entrance

Yelp
It is the marketplace of your dreams. Your wet dreams if you were thinking about a market in that way, this would be the one. When you walk in it has that mixture of smells that you know you're absolutely repulsed by and at the same time thrilled to smell. You know everything in there is fresh; the fruit is fresh, the fish is fresh, the vegetables are diverse and look just picked, and the cheese is amazing. The charcuterie is like a fantasy! This market even has plants for sale as well as flowers and a few additional outlying products. When you walk up to a stall, it's not guaranteed that you're going to get a smile or a happy, "How are you?" But it is guaranteed that you will get good service. Selling the product is the name of the game here. I fully believe that if you are ever in barcelona and you come by this market you should absolutely stop in and see what it's all about. It's one of those rare places that you will be extremely glad that you saw and you'll think about later in life even if you don't buy anything, it's worth a look.

Yelp
We decided to check out this market because it was a 5-minute walk from where we were staying. It's a much smaller market than Boqueria. Unlike Boqueria, there aren't that many vendors selling cooked foods/tapas/snacks. Instead, it seemed more like a place where locals did their food shopping. We picked up some strawberries, so this is a good spot to pick up some fresh fruit. There's also a supermarket downstairs. They sell flowers and plants out front, and while I definitely didn't need any flowers, it was still nice to just look at them. If you're staying nearby and want to experience some local vibes, you should check it out. Otherwise, it's probably not worth going out of your way for if you're not looking to buy groceries. Note - they're closed Sundays.

Excellent selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, and meats! Vendors were friendly and very helpful

Yelp
This is a super cool little market! Lots of veggie and meat sellers, as well as the classic plants of this place! Really cool lighting which would definitely be fun for a photo shoot. It's definitely a smaller market but it's a fun stop!

Yelp
Mercat de la Boqueria gets all the glory and pulls all the tourists, but you can have a very similar experience here. Just like the other market, this one has meats, cheeses, fruits and other goodies to tickle your taste buds. The selection is smaller than Mercat de la Boqueria, but there were virtually no crowds when we visited. Strangely, they also have an appliance store and some sort of convenience store built into it. It's a one-stop shop. It would be really easy to pass this and not even know what was inside, but it's worth walking in, wandering around and seeing what's available.

Yelp
Another day another market. I found this via Rick Steve's Barcelona travel guide following the Eixample walk. This is the cleanest market in the City. It's housed in a old building but the interior has been updated. They even have a supermarket in the basement but the first floor has all sorts of vendors including fish markets, butchers, bakeries, prepared foods to go and some small tapas stalls. This is in a local neighborhood so there are very few tourists and small crowds. As a bonus at the back of the market is a large flower and plant store.

Yelp
I like how this place has a wet market a la Boqueria around the back (the Mercat de la Concepció) with all sorts of fresh merchandise ranging from fruits to meats, cheeses & veggies, etc., plus a supermarket called Caprabo (front & down below). While I don't see this layout very often, it was exactly what I was looking for. We'd just arrived in BCN & wanted fruits, veggies, batteries & a moisturizer. If I hadn't read about this place, I would've had to go to 2 different locations for all of those. I also remember seeing appliances & electronics in Caprabo. The vendors at M.d.l.C. were really nice, helpful & stunning, & put up with my broken Spanish, as I ordered from them a few pieces of 'limon verde' (my butchered Spanish version of "lime"). The rest, I embarrassedly specified by pointing & showing with my fingers how many pieces I wanted. And I had the audacity to assume that I'd be blending quite well with the locals. As with any wet market, the produce is probably freshest if you buy in the AM. I went there late in the afternoon & it looked like a lot of the vendors were ready to close up shop. I would recommend this place to tourists that have just arrived in BCN & need fresh produce (fruites i verdures), plus maybe stuff like soda, toiletries, batteries, etc.

Yelp
Great place with enough vendors selling, fruits, veggies, meat and seafood. Plus a few bakeries! And it's very clean.

Yelp
Another amazing market in Barcelona! I love this place, too! I don't know why so many folks flock to Boqueria, I mean, c'mon, so many amazing markets! Fewer crowds! Meats, produce, seafood, jamon, all fresh as can be. Next time, in Barcelona, I may just roam around the markets and gain some weight. Goodness yes. Snacks, flowers, drinks, endless. Come back. Again. And Again. Thanks for listening!

Yelp
Convenient little market in the L'Eixample part of town. One part is a Boqueria-like market with fresh vegetables, fruits, meats, and seafood. There is even a little counter to get a cafe, snack or a small beer. At the entrance one can purchase plants or fresh flowers. On the other end of the building is a grocery store where you can purchase just about anything you need and an electronic store that I am not sure when it is opened (it was closed on both my visits). Bring your own grocery bags or you will be charged for plastic bags if you need them. This place was a blessing to us in the sleepy part of L'Eixample where everything seemed like it was closed, all the time.

Yelp
Very good location if staying in area. I stayed at Apt. Di Jordi which is literally around the corner. There is fresh food (deli, meats to be cooked, bakery). Around the corner is a grocery store for household items. Be aware it closes I think around 6 pm, Saturday mid day and close on Sunday. Just check when you visit.

Yelp
Browse around or you can hang out at the library stand and read/browse through all kinds of magazine, books, audio, etc But you can't take them home with you.

Yelp
Local market. Good stuff.

Yelp
This market is fantastic! Lots of excellent vendors with fresh fruit, veggies, baked goods, meats, flowers, etc. A great place to get your week's shopping or just to wander around and enjoy.

Yelp
What a gem and tucked away find in Barcelona!!! Great place for fresh squeezed juices, fruits, jamon sandwiches, tapas and fresh fresh fresh seafood! Reminds me of La Boqueria without the insane amount of tourists!!
