15 Best Bars in Madrid

"An arcaded brick lair beneath the hustle and bustle of Calle Arenal, La Coquette turns into Madrid's most hoppin' blues party Tuesday through Sunday, when it hosts live shows and jam sessions. Blues might not be the first music genre that springs to mind when someone says "Spain"—and that's precisely what makes La Coquette such a welcome surprise. Bring a date or a friend and settle in for a truly electric night of entertainment, and make sure to eat beforehand." - Benjamin Kemper

Google
One of the only if not the only real blues bar in madrid, they offer sunflower seeds with drink, a queue you have to wait to get in and 3 sets of 1.3 h each. Staff are friendly, music never dissapoints, I loved the place, would be nice to have Guiness beer, but its just my personal preference.

First visit to this blues club, a very small intimate venue, free to enter. Limited places. Drinks good value for a club. The staff were quick to serve us. The atmosphere was brilliant . The music, was great blues. People tend to leave after the 1st set which allows other waiting outside to get in. Next time I go to Madrid I will visit La Coquette again..

This bar rules, we sang and danced all night. Door staff was really kind and although we had to wait to get in, it was worth it. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Madrid. Seating is very cozy so be prepared to sit with strangers or make new friends.

So cool! The guy let us take the stools up on the ledge, he really did everything he could to get as many people in as possible, and the band was really good.

Great place but absolutely unprofessional guy at the door. I don’t know how such a blues institution in Madrid allow that people. Very unwelcoming.

Google
Great blues bar, very lively and friendly crowd. The place is very intimate and has no entry fee; entry based on capacity. We arrived around 10 pm midweek and there was no line, but a couple hours later there was a line. As people left between sets, people in line were let in. Great place overall, had a fantastic time

It was so great! A great band, free live show , you just need to buy a drink. Come at 21 00 when they open so you will have a seat otherwise it gets packed.

Yelp
We had a fun evening out at Madrid's La Coquette Blues Bar. Got there at around 7:30 pm - doors open at 8, and a line forms outside the relatively small place, so that timing was perfect. Settled into the very cool cavern-like subterranean space with rough stone walls, vintage blues show posters and a terrific Chicago blues soundtrack. A waiter who spoke English took drink orders, and everybody got bowls of sunflower seeds in the shell. It got crowded, but not ridiculously so, because they limit admission, letting a few new people in when others leave. They feature a rotating roster of blues bands who each do a three-night run. Check out their web site (it's their Facebook page) for who's playing. As usual when I see a music listing somewhere, I looked the group up on YouTube, to check out what they actually sound like. The combo we caught - The Maria Avilas Quartet - came on at 9 pm. It was a good-time Chicago-style blues band with guitar, standup bass, drums and a female singer, and we stayed for most of the second set as well. The crowd was really upbeat and friendly, and the beer was cold. Later in the evening, the waiter offered selected people (lucky us!) free mini-shots. Bottom line: we really enjoyed the place, and highly recommend it for a fun evening out.

Yelp
Good, divey Blues Bar (live band) we found and jumped into after dinner. Got there around 11'ish. Had some beers, drinks, and listened to the live Blues Band which was pretty good. Good selection of beers and liquor... the bartender makes a very good Mojito (almost every table had one). Generous pours on all drinks. Decent beer selection. Seating is a little tight but it's not a big place. Looks like an old bomb shelter (cool look).

Yelp
Super small but totally chill place I was sick and still enjoyed myself. I stayed til like 1130 but it didn't finish until like 1 am It was great love music! Only thing I wish it was bigger, the music is really good makes you wanna dance! Drinks are expensive tho. Shows start @1030ish so get there early We got there at 10 and it was pretty packed

Yelp
Without doubt one of the best places I have been to in Madrid! If you like Blues Musiv you and the atmophere that belongs to this type of Music you will love this Bar! We dropped in, just by chance and there was live music. Wonderful music, wonderful audience - just a great atmosphere! Drink prices are ok and they will serve you a bowl with salty sunflower seed to nosh! I felt in love with this Bar as it is nothing for everybody for sure but a very very cool place for people who... hm, like to listen to melancholic blues, be sourrounded by cool Spanish people and just have a beer or a whisky late in the evening!

Yelp
So happy I stumbled upon this. Small, cozy music venue. They serve alcohol but no food. Instead they give out sunflower seeds so it's a really awesome tradition that has been created there. Music, atmosphere, all was great. I walked in alone and walked out with 5 new friends.

Yelp
Great little blues bar with an awesome vibe. The live band was great to see and everyone in the place was groovin. A must if your in Madrid and enjoy blues rock.

Yelp
Cool place with a nice vibe. I do not know if they play any other music than blues, but the bands they had were great. I really liked that they had sunflower seeds for you to munch on. Would recommend.

Yelp
Accidentally found this place looking for a dive bar between the museum triangle and Plaza del Sol (a bit of a wander). The live band was great, the crowd was super responsive, and the bar keep was full of information once he sussed out that we weren't four American co-eds looking to get sloshed, but rather Spanish-speakers thrilled they'd found a blues/jazz joint. No live music Thursday, from what he told us.

Yelp
This is a small blues bar, with a great crowd, very nice staff, and good music. There was no live music on while I was there, but the music being played was cool. Albert, the owner, looked after us very well, and I felt very welcome there. A great experience.
