La Darbia, Orta San Giulio, Italian Lakes - Explore & Book

"Read a travel guide to the Italian Lakes and it might not even mention Lake Orta. And that’s exactly why you should go there. It may be smaller than its more-famous neighbour, Maggiore, but what it lacks in celebrity it makes up for in charm: faded waterfront villas, sleepy medieval villages and an intriguing island monastery, set against a dreamy backdrop of steep green escarpments and low-hanging mist. It’s no wonder creative minds such as Byron, Browning and Balzac came here for inspiration. Nestled into the forest above the picturesque Orta San Giulio, La Darbia is the perfect place to take it all in. Forged from a farmhouse inherited from their grandfather, brothers Gian Carlo and Matteo used their passion for architecture to create 20 stylish apartments, each with a phenomenal lake view. In the extensive grounds they discovered an ancient vineyard, from which they now produce Nebbiolo wine; you can do tastings in the rustic La Cantina cellar. Breakfast baskets are delivered to your door, there’s an infinity pool overlooking the lake and it’s a downhill stroll into the village. If you’re a couple or family looking for a less-commercial Italian Lakes break, you won’t find better. We can’t wait to visit. Highs An incredible setting overlooking Lake Orta, a hidden gem in the Italian Lakes; far quieter than Maggiore or Como The views! Best enjoyed from a sunlounger by the heated pool, aperitivo in hand... The apartments: stylish, spacious and spotlessly clean, with kitchens for self-catering and a private terrace or garden The onsite traditional Italian restaurant, La Cucina. Reasonably priced, and they can deliver meals to your apartment, too Ideal for families. The pool is heated and there's a small playground plus watersports nearby Lows Due to the tucked-away location and lack of signs, finding La Darbia can be tricky; be sure to follow our detailed directions WiFi can be patchy You may want to hire a car if you plan to self-cater, as the best shops are a short drive away It’s a hilly walk back up from Orta and there’s no footpath, but the road is relatively quiet; take a torch at night" - Handpicked by our hotel experts

This is an exceptionally special hotel. We visited for part of our honeymoon (July) and it was truly breathtaking. The design puts nature at the heart of the place, with vines around the property, herbs and kitchen gardens at the centre of the vibe. The views were spectacular. The food and wine were AMAZING. We particularly recommend the 'bistrot' in the kitchen garden. Not to mention the 'Cantina' on a Wednesday which is NOT TO BE MISSED. The staff and owners were friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to see what their Tuscany property will be like.

We have just returned from 5 nights at La Darbia as part of a two week trip through Piedmont. Everything about this resort is just lovely - the design, team of people, style of service and knowledge, location and food - all exceptional. Wonderful local produce breakfast delivered to our room each morning, and we loved the evening we were invited to the cantina with the rest of the guests. ||My partner has a nut allergy which was missed in the restaurant during the chef's table experience. Despite prior communication regarding this, I felt could have been dealt with better and gave a disappointing end to our visit, but wouldn't prevent us from attending again. ||On a side note, the rooms could benefit from full length mirrors, and mattress toppers because when you put two single beds together this was uncomfortable when they seperated.

La Darbia at Lake Orta is an absolute dream! The location is stunning, nestled in gentle hills with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The property itself is beautifully designed and meticulously maintained. The apartments are modern, stylish, and incredibly cosy, making you feel right at home. The attention to detail is evident everywhere, from the well-kept gardens to the thoughtful touches in the rooms. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay. A particular highlight was the on-site restaurant helmed by Matteo. The food was simply outstanding, featuring fresh, local ingredients and a delightful menu that catered to all tastes. Travelling with three children can sometimes be challenging, but La Darbia made it effortless. The place is exceptionally family-friendly, with plenty of space for the kids to play and explore. The pool area was a favourite, offering a perfect spot to relax and take in the stunning scenery.

Nestled in the enchanting landscape of Lago d’Orta, La Darbia offers a serene escape where luxury and nature seamlessly blend. This charming hotel provides breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains, ensuring a memorable stay in one of Italy’s most picturesque regions.||A Room with a View: Room 11||The only things we missed was a long mirror and a sunshade on our terrace.

Outstanding. Too good to share to be honest but the team and the place are magic. A real gem

La Darbia is a very beautiful spot near the Lake Orta in Italy. Federico, Beatrice and the rest of the team went out of their way to accommodate any wish we had during our week stay in March. Breakfast was amazing, and eating in the restaurant was also a special experience. It was a highlight to meet one of the owners Matteo and have a long chat with him and other guests during an evening in the Cantina, tasting La Darbias own wine and eating regional specialties. Thank you for a lovely vacation!

My family stayed at La Darbia for 2 nights in June 2023. It's a beautiful resort overlooking the amazing Lake Orta! Their restaurant was delicious! The ravioli with sage and meat for kids was a huge success. They even had a fun playground with a zipline! The staff were super friendly. My only concerns were that the pool was a little cold and the beds were a little hard. Overall, it was great!

Fantastic view and a cosy garden with a nice pool. The breakfast is simple but good.||However, for the price of around 300 Euros per night the service is inadequate. The interior is very cheap, mostly Ikea furniture. The apartment will be cleaned only every third day. An additional fruit for breakfast will be charged. Garbage must be disposed by yourself. ||In our case we had few disappointments like a broken Moka/Espresso maker, no hair dryer at first, then we got a broken one before we got a working one. At the cleaning after three days the floor was not cleaned, coffee and tea were not refilled. Garbage not emptied. ||It is possible to prepare food in the apartment, however, it has only very minimal equipment. ||In total, we enjoyed the garden and the view, but we think with little effort they could definitely make it much more convenient for the guests. And actually, for the price we would expect the small details to be just right. ||Some personal was very friendly and helpful, others rather grumpy.
