Charming Property with a Few Quirks – A Mostly Lovely Stay
Island Lodge La Digue truly delivers on its promise of vintage charm. The property is beautifully landscaped, with lush foliage, a serene atmosphere, and stunning sunset views over the ocean. The pool area is especially inviting, and the location is excellent, with nearby supermarkets and easy access to cycling paths.
The rooms are small but functional and well-equipped, ideal for travelers who pack light and appreciate efficiency. Cleaning standards were good, and although we didn’t stay in the luxury tents, our room served its purpose comfortably.
However, there are some important things to note:
Do not come expecting Wi-Fi. There is essentially no internet access—you'll need to rely entirely on your SIM card for connectivity.
The phone in our room didn’t work and was oddly hidden behind the television. When we finally got it working to request some cutlery, guest services refused the request—surprising, given this is a hotel and not an apartment rental.
Once we adjusted our expectations and treated the lodge as more of a self-catering stay, the experience improved. With supermarkets nearby, we stocked up on water and supplies and settled in comfortably.
On the positive side, the free pickup and drop-off to the ferry was a thoughtful touch, and check-in was seamless and well-organised. There’s a bike rental shop right on the premises, which is incredibly convenient.
However, we strongly advise against using the on-site Azzurina Dive Center. It was rarely open, unresponsive to calls and messages, and the manager openly stated that profitability takes precedence over guest experience.
Overall, Island Lodge is a great place to stay if you're prepared for a more independent experience. It’s peaceful, charming, and not overly intrusive—perfect for travelers who enjoy some solitude in a scenic setting.
