The decor of this place is absolutely incredible. It is quintessentially in New Mexican and beautiful! Paco is a thoughtful, hard-working and charming host! He is available if needed and offered things to do around town and restaurant recommendations. It was very clean and the king bed was super comfortable. It's in the middle of everything so the location is great!

We stayed in the La Luz room and although we had a spiral stairway to climb, it was so worth it! The room was bright, art decorated each wall and the view was amazing. A lot of love and family history. Paco is an amazing owner, with so many fun stories to tell. Location was perfect, close to the square and restaurants. We will be back!

Lovely space and very welcoming. The breakfast is fantastic. There is a nice courtyard that is peaceful where you can hang out. Right in the middle of everything. Walk out the door and you are in the middle of Taos. Lots of amazing art.

We had the most amazing experience at this bed and breakfast. My husband and I have never been to Taos and never stayed at a bed and breakfast before. Paco takes such great ownership of his establishment and between him and his staff, Mark and Amy, we had such excellent service. They were all personable and catered to special requests. The rooms are so exquisitely decorated with framed paintings and murals that we just couldn't get enough of taking them all in. We relaxed in our room and also in the downstairs communal living room. Also loved the view of the old well in the living room. Thanks for helping us achieve our goal of a relaxing vacation this Christmas!

We spent 2 nights on 4th of July weekend, stayed in La Madonna room, which was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The location is excellent for walking to galleries, shops, museums and restaurants in the heart of Taos. Walked to Kit Carson park for the Robert Earl Keen concert. What a treat!

The Rainbow Room is a luxury Penthouse with a full kitchen, living room and private balcony. The bedroom is on the second level and above that is your own rooftop with private hot tub. This is a truly unique lodging experience.

First of all, I would like to personally apologize to Paco, the owner, for the delay in my review. He deserved this months ago! This was hands down the most pleasant boarding experience I have ever had! The quirky architecture and charming artwork adorning the entire building is so warm and welcoming. We stayed in the Sonrisa suite and he art in the bathroom just blew us away. We stayed upstairs so we were able to make regular use of my favorite part; there is a little winding staircase smack in the middle of the lobby area!. The food was impeccable and made to order. We shared a lovely bottle of champagne for a romantic night in. The outdoor seating area with the flowers is so beautiful to relax in. It was close to all of the fun things the city had to offer as well! Walking distance to all the main shops and attractions. We absolutely will be staying here again on our next trip to NM. Paco, thank you again for the amazing stay.

We took an anniversary trip to Taos and were incredibly glad we picked La Dona Luz Inn to stay at. Breakfasts were only on the weekend in the Winter dates, but these breakfasts were fantastically tasty. ||The owner and staff were incredibly friendly, helpful for exploring Taos, and simply pleasant. ||The Rainbow Room was fas=ntastic, although everyone should be aware that the stairs up to the sleeping loft and bathroom are steep. We are familiar with stairs like this from Baltimore - they were quite accessible for us in our active 60s+, but some might find them challenging. The stairs to the roof deck and its wonderful hot tub are more challenging - we treated them with caution, but were happy to use them.

Yelp
The 300+ year old inn is amazingly beautifully preserved. You will feel like you're staying in a museum. The woodwork and art are second to none. The inn owner is one of the most gracious and warmest human beings walking the earth. I have stayed here many times over the past 25 years. Only place I stay when in Taos.

Yelp
This was one of the most lovely experiences my husband and I have had when staying the night anywhere! We stopped by to see if there were any vacancies and Paco happened to be out back. Paco was incredibly welcoming right off the bat and invited us in to tell us what rooms were available and show us the lay of the land. I don't think I have ever met such a friendly and down to earth person with a plethora of historical facts and passion for this place! We chose the Santiago Room" which is a touch of "Old World" Spain. The bed was comfy, the room was quiet, the ambiance of the adobe fireplace warming the room was calming. The bathroom was clean and unique, as was the entire room. That night, we were craving a warm beverage, so we headed down to the kitchen and made ourselves some tea. We will definitely be returning!

Yelp
The rooms are charming and the breakfast that Mark prepared was amazing! Thank you to Paco and their amazing staff for a wonderful stay!!!

Yelp
Paco was a wonderful host! I wish I could keep this place secret just for myself but Paco and family should be taking care of conscientious travelers. I felt at home as soon as I arrived and I did not want to leave. I can not say enough good things. I love this place.

Yelp
My best friend and I recently celebrated our 50th birthdays in lovely Taos and had the pleasure of staying at the wonderful La Dona Luz. Upon greeting us, Paco took the time to share his reco's for the best places to grab a coffee, lunch and more, while also telling us all about the colorful history of his family and the Inn, which he affectionately referred to as his "project." The truth is, he has and continues to lovingly restore this little gem, and you can see the care and thinking that has gone into every square inch, from the personal artwork and hand-painted walls to the freshly redone bathroom, comfortable mattresses and pillows, and lush green plants throughout. Our suite, La Madonna, was extremely spacious and clean, with a balcony and separate entrance. I loved every minute we spent there and hope to do it again soon. Thank you, Paco, for giving us such a warm welcome! --The Jens

Yelp
The best bed and breakfast EVER, totally affordable and romantically rustic in all the right ways. Paco, the owner and biggest sweetheart father of two, has been renovating his family's property and making the perfect home away from home B&B with awesome and modern bath amenities, epic beds, antiques, local art, traditional Native American rugs, photographs, paintings, and nic-nacks of cute, quirk, and sacred. Each room has its own special feel and serves as as the perfect backdrop and bed veil to your Taos visit. The Yellow Bird Deer room, where I stayed last night, is something out of a dream I've had, I slept so well and so sound surrounded by its charms. A ginormous bed and an accompaniment salon room equipped with a couch and fireplace with french doors to the patio. Great deep bathtub too! It is right next to the kitchen though so you'll hear a little tinkering in the morn. AND, if you want the cozy for two special go for the Sonrisa room, it has the most massive bath for two or gosh, two and half WITH jacuzzi jets. After a sweet soak, pull up for a fireside chat not a few footsteps away with a book, a glass of wine, or your love.

Yelp
Over the years(about 30) I have stayed at La Dona Luz (Previously El Rincon) numerous times and have ALWAYS loved it. It is authentically steeped in New Mexican culture. Everywhere you look it's something unique and beautiful. The staff is friendly and the place is always clean. It's very close to the town square. If you are an artist La Dona Luz, Taos, and the surrounding area will inspire you everywhere you look. If you are a lover of art, you will not be disappointed! If I could I would live there! Parking can be a little challenging, but worth it. Thank you owners and staff of La Dona Luz!

Yelp
terrific place. should have stayed at Doña Luz three nights. the craftsmanship of our two rooms ("Rainbow" and "Santiago") is a sight to be seen. Be sure to set aside time to simply sit in your room and admire it. Fabulous location. The host, Paco, is a great guy. You gotta meet him in person to "get" how cool he is. Oddly, the online photos don't do justice to this place. i cannot wait for stay here again. My mate & i splurged for the hot tub room - best dollars i ever spent.

Yelp
Instead of gushing about what an awesome place this is (it IS!), may I please address the two complaints I read in other reviews? One said there were too many decorations on the walls (whaaaa? hellooooo, this is Taos, those are part of the culture!) and the other said that food wasn't as appetizing as it had been sitting out (covered) since 7:30. Umm, can you explain how a bagel, apple, banana, or orange juice becomes "less appetizing" by sitting in a covered container? sheesh, wowzers. Btw, those bagels were darn good, as were the cooked to order waffles Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled review: For next to nothing (Taos pricing), you get a comfortable room, with a jacuzzi tub, about 100yds from the plaza, with a fridge, microwave, & coffeemaker....oh, and a cooked to order brekke, as the australian fellow so eloquently stated. All the staff have smiles and are always available to help, could not have been a better experience. This was my first time and I booked a later date before I even left, it was that good!

Yelp
We were in Taos just this past weekend for a quick getaway. We had started off at a different hotel. The first hotel was loud, definitely felt sketchy, and had that bland, corporate vibe that I hate. When I woke up Saturday morning, I put my foot down, and we found another place. Although LDL has minimum stays listed on their website, they were willing to accommodate us and let us stay for one night. They also graciously let us check in early, which was AWESOME, as I was exhausted from the previous night's crappy sleep. Mariah (an employee) was so warm and welcoming, and got us taken care of right away. Thanks, Mariah! We loved the room! It was cozy, had a great view, and was really adorable. We were in the Sonrisa room which has a two person Jacuzzi tub and a whimsical Adam & Eve mural on the bathroom walls (complete with unicorn). There's also Rusk products in the bathrooms instead of cheap stuff. There's a DVD player and there's a (very small) selection of movies downstairs you can borrow to watch. It's literally steps away from the plaza, very centrally located and convenient. If you want to walk around, the plaza's right there, but if you want to just chill in your room, it's cozy enough to do that, too. Breakfast was fairly simple, nothing extraordinary, but basic fare--yogurt, granola, bagels, homemade waffles. There's a really cute dining room and courtyard area, to sip your coffee and eat your waffle. It was a relaxing start to the day. The whole hotel was very quiet, and non-invasive--we literally didn't see any guests or employees except at breakfast, which is AWESOME. The staff is just a phone call away but they let you be which I appreciate. We will definitely be back! My only regret is that we didn't stay there the whole weekend! If you're in Taos, it's worth checking out, for sure, if you want a non-corporate, non-touristy place to relax. =)

Yelp
My friend and I stayed in the Rainbow Room, which is the large suite that has rooftop access with a private hot tub. The room is absolutely gorgeous, there are two fireplaces, one upstairs in the bedroom and downstairs in the living room. The king size bed is very comfortable and the room is cozy. The service here is great and the owner and the people that clean the rooms and make breakfast are so friendly. The view from the roof as you sit in the hot tub is spectacular and is perfect for a romantic getaway or even a family vacation. I will definitely come back, I love this place.

Yelp
5 stars for friendliness and customer service, but I couldn't help walking away from my stay feeling like there was a bit much to be desired. The room at first seemed great and cozy and romantic (especially with the fireplace) but towards the end, it just felt a bit overwhelming. It was overly-decorated. To the point where there wasn't any wall space, because it was covered with authentic artwork, paintings, and artifacts. There wasn't a bit of open space in the room that wasn't decorated or filled with something. The room had a slight moth ball smell to it and the bathroom smelled a bit dank as well. The breakfast area felt dark and silent and without atmosphere, and although I enjoyed the waffle, I quickly finished so I could head back to my room. I liked the recreation bookshelf that had some games, dvds, and playing cards, and I think this place is centrally located, so walking around the square is pretty easy. I probably wouldn't stay here again, but I think others might find this place affordable ($129), romantic, and enjoyable.

Yelp
You can't ask for anything more Taos than La Dona Luz Inn. It is the essence of the place: fun, quirky, colorful, and unique. Each room/suite has been created as a individual expression of Paco's vision. I walked up the narrow spiral staircase and up another set of stairs to my aerie of a room, and the view of Taos Mountain was worth the stairs. Comfortable bed, great bathroom amenities (the skylight was a perfect touch), and a cozy sitting area. Unfortunately with the current COVID restrictions, there was no breakfast service, but they are fully set up for it when the time comes. It couldn't be any more convenient to everything you want to walk to around the plaza, Kit Carson and Bent Streets for gallery crawls, as well as restaurants. Paco is a great host and very personable with deep deep roots in Taos, so you can't get much more authentic. Highly recommend this B&B for anyone wanting to experience the real Taos.

Yelp
My fiance and I went to Taos for a long weekend over New Years and stayed at La Dona Luz. Another couple came along and also stayed here. We all really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The location is really fabulous. You can walk around the shopping in "downtown" Taos and there is fabulous food to eat within a couple of blocks. We stayed in the Tiwa Room on the ground level. The room, like the entire B&B, had wonderful decorative touches. There is a lot of beautiful art on the walls. The Tiwa Room was very spacious and had two TV's - one in the living room and another in the bedroom. My only complaint with the room is that the bathroom is lacking in the comfort that the rest of the room offers. It got very cold in there because there are no heat vents in the actual bathroom. Also, there is a jacuzzi tub but every time we tried to turn it on tons of dirt came out of the jets. The shower head in the room also really needs to be replaced. It was difficult to get a good, warm shower in this room. Our friends stayed one night in the Santiago room and loved it. We stopped in and it was a beautiful room. The rest of their stay was in La Luz which was charming and had great views since it was at the very top of the hotel. However, they don't mention on their website that there is not really a door to this room...it was just a thatch gate with a bike lock on it. Also, there was no real heat, only a space heater. Our friends didn't want to leave a space heater on while we were out exploring so when we got back from skiing and sight seeing the room would be too cold for them to relax in. Overall, this is a lovely place to stay. The breakfast was nice every morning and the inn keepers were very helpful and nice people.

Kristina S.

Yelp
Truly as good as it gets. We stayed over the 4th of July holiday. We stayed in La Luz room. That's the third floor room. The staircase was very, very tiny, but we didn't mind. The view was totally worth it. My in-laws stayed in Santiago and they loved their room as well. We want to check out the Rainbow Room next time. The Inn is convenient (hop, skip, and a jump) to the Plaza. Which works great on Market day. Now the important part: Breakfast. Kondrieu made us the best breakfast casserole. So much so, I had to get the recipe from her. We all loved it. Oh, and the coffee. It sounds so silly, but we loved the coffee too. We think it was because she uses a percolator. The outside sitting area was so relaxing and the inside dining room was beautiful as well. The art, have Paco tell you about the art. Loved every piece of it. If you decide to stay here, you won't be disappointed. Taos charm and character.

Yelp
My family and I had a wonderful stay at La Doña Luz Inn. This quaint B&B provides a very clean, uplifting environment full of flowers and color with a Southwestern flare. It's themed rooms are harmoniously decorated, comfortable and well appointed. We loved the 3 level Rainbow suite with its masterful woodwork and great attention to detail. This spacious suite featured a log-beamed high ceiling, full kitchen, dinning room and richly decorated living room with a beautiful fireplace and patio. its very romantic multi level bedroom is truly a must-see and a rare accommodation for a B&B. We took advantage of the surrounding mountain scenery from its private rooftop retreat, complete with hot tub, and relaxed in its beautiful courtyard. The Inn's owner was very gracious and informative and our children loved the friendly staff ( they did not want to leave). The proximity of the Inn to the plaza, it's quaint comfortable accommodations and its superb management present a truly unique travel experience and I highly recommend this Southwestern jewel.

Yelp
I stayed here during my recent trip to Taos and had a great non-touristy experience (just what I was hoping for)! Paco was a very welcoming host, although I didn't see him again after we checked in (we only stayed one night). The whole house is decorated with beautiful art and murals, and our room was especially nice. It was decorated with locally made drums and Native American textiles, and the bathroom was beautifully tiled in blue, green and yellow to mirror the painting of sunflowers that was hanging on the wall. The price was amazing, and the breakfast was very good as well. My only complaint would be that breakfast started at 7:30 am, and most of the food was sitting out until we came to breakfast around 8:30 or 9:00 (it was covered but still wasn't as appealing as it would have been earlier or if it was made to order). Overall, I had a great time and will definitely be staying here next time I'm in Taos!!! P.S. I also loved their shop El Rincon, but will review it later so I can do it justice.

Yelp
FANTASTIC place! A dear friend of many years and I met here to celebrate our 40th birthdays - we stayed in the Rainbow Room which has a private hot tub on the roof from which we could view stars, the snow-topped mountain, and the Taos hot air balloon festival! The hot tub alone is worth it, but the suite also has a full kitchen, sweet living room, and a great king bed. We didn't use the fireplaces but wood was provided. Breakfast was simple but a great start to the day--fruit, yogurt, granola, toast, eggs, and they will make you waffles if you ask! Good coffee and really helpful staff. Really centrally located and parking is included. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
If you're coming to Taos, stay at La Dona Luz. If you aren't coming to Taos, reconsider so you can stay at La Dona Luz. It's hands down one of the loveliest, most inventive B&Bs anywhere --authentic, fun, and filled with beautiful surprises. Paco, the gregarious second-generation owner, has decorated the traditional adobe with great thoughtfulness, personality, and warmth, adorning it with an impressive collection of Pueblo art, kachinas, textiles, and pottery. (Think Kinfolk meets the Smithsonian. Georgia O'Keeffe would approve.) Highlights include the idiosyncratic, imaginative, and densely decorated rooms; proximity to everything you want in Taos (Rancho, Pueblo, Plaza, the Love Apple, and next door the oldest trading post in town, opened in the 1900s by Paco's grandfather, an artist and OG trader); a generous, delicious breakfast (when we were there, Paco's wonderful cohost prepared a savory, cheesy torta espanola, fluffy homemade waffles with fresh strawberries, and a liberal assortment of teas, grains, fruit, and yogurt); and a genial host who shares his local knowledge and generations-long Taos family history with you--and in so doing makes you feel like family. - Gabriella and Adam

Laura S.

Yelp
We stayed 3 nights at the Rainbow Room, and it was just gorgeous inside. Loved the art displayed throughout the suite, as well as the rooftop hot tub! The host was SO gracious, especially given that we arrived well after our planned arrival time. The food was good, and the atmosphere just wonderful.

Yelp
Perfect. If you go to Taos and do not stay here, you are missing out! Paco was awesome, and had us a place to stay last minute. Do yourself a favor and stay here, it is definitely worth it. Walk out your door and you are on the square. Awesome, I will not stay anywhere else in Taos again. Authentic New Mexico

Chelsea S.

Yelp
Wow...we were SO IMPRESSED by our stay here! The owners have poured their heart and soul into this place, and it shows! So much attention to detail--every room and space is full to the brim of colorful art... We were in Los Angelitos, and it was such a spacious room! There were a ton of different lighting options, too, which really gave you a chance to set the mood, and the natural light poured in as well! Parts of the hotel (including our room) were built in the 1700's--so cool to imagine all the things that may have transpired there. The breakfast looked very impressive, and they offered vegan options for us--oatmeal, lots of fresh fruit and juice, plus we just picked up some soy milk and used it for the cereals...the other guests were lovely, and the owners were so helpful. The location was perfect, too--surrounded by galleries and only a block or so from the plaza (still in Old Town). Check out Eske's nearby for some GREAT green chile stew and World Cup coffee if you're in need of an awesome espresso! We will most definitely be back, hopefully in the not-so-distant future...I wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else in Taos after our wonderful experience here!

Yelp
This was an incredible place to stay. My partner and I only stayed for 1 night, but we got to indulge in the kiva and it was very romantic. Lot of art and sculptures around the room. The place felt like home and we were very comfortable. It was located close to the plaza, so there was a short walk to dinner and after dinner entertainment/drinks. Breakfast was awesome! Condrew (sp?) was very inviting and chatted with us as we ate our food. She told us a little about the inn and the history behind it which was very neat to hear. Paco (sp?) was also a great host and let us knew if we needed anything that to make our stay better, he was there to help. Small suggestion, the shower head had a lot of build up, it could use a clean. The spirt and energy of the place made up for that small thing. I would definitely recommend this place, especially since the price was great for the area. Now I'm off to ski at Angel Fire

K W.

Yelp
Perfect! This place is precious, comfortable, and in the middle of everything. Three of us stayed in the Rainbow Room and we did not feel crowded at all. The decor is very New Mexican--Paco's passion for local art is evident on every wall, and if you ask, he can tell you all about each piece. We all slept comfortably and enjoyed the fireplaces and the outdoor space (balcony off the den, roof deck). The rooftop hot tub is wonderful--360 views of downtown Taos and the surrounding mountains. La Dona Luz is right downtown; there's a cute brew pub with good food about 50 feet away, and all of the downtown restaurants are within a few blocks. There's a full grocery store just a few blocks away, as well. Paco and his staff are awesome. Stay here!
