I had an amazing experience at this vinyl shop! The owner is a fantastic guy who clearly has a passion for music. The selection of vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes is extensive, catering to all music tastes. Whether you're a collector or just looking for some great music, this shop is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back for more musical treasures!

Google
The best record store in Montreal. The place is straight out of High Fidelity. The perfect place to find all the oldies as well as new records. Definitely check it out and make sure to say hi to Steve he’s super helpful!

Yelp
My experience at Death of Vinyl was a bit amusing. I stopped by there initially, not that impressed with the organization, as there were large swaths of bins that were a bit of everything. I did some quick perusing but nothing really stood out. Then later that day, as I was searching discogs for a specific record, I noticed that Death of Vinyl came up as someone selling it! I went back to the store, hoping I could find it. When I got there, I looked through all the 7" boxes that seemed applicable to the genre. Nothing there. So I checked in at the counter and they brought it out from the back. In general, I get why stores would want to segment out records they are selling on discogs (so they don't sell in the store and online simultaneously.) But it's a bit aggravating that I could have found the record I wanted the old-fashioned way if it had been on the shelf. It wasn't even particularly pricey! But yea yea, I get it. So my recommendation is, check out their discogs page in advance! Don't make my mistake and have to go back a second time.

Yelp
Amazing selection and great value for money. Always a must-stop place for me in Montreal.

Yelp
I recently checked out Death Of Vinyl during my first visit to Montreal. From the outside it looks a bit dumpy. The inside almost reminded me of a record show style setup. No fancy lighting. It's no frills used vinyl. I noticed several genres. I did grab a few records ranging from reggae, synth-pop, soul, and rock. Not the strongest selection overall, but some good stuff nonetheless. One thing I really liked was that they encouraged listening inside and offered several listening stations. The gentleman behind the counter, possibly the owner noticed I was having difficulty with one of the turntables and came over to assist. They also had a decently sized cassette selection near the register. I honestly don't recall if they had CDs. They did have some used audio gear though. Although the shop name rings more like a 90's shop going out of business, there's plenty of usedvvinyl inside. Worth a look to see if there's anything that catches your eye and ears.

Yelp
Super cool spot with amazing people and a great selection. They also buy vinyl from people looking to downsize their collections and almost all of the records there are second hand. :)

Yelp
This is, as Grant so wisely put it, a wonderland and trip down memorylanes of sweet old sounds and epic hairdo's and eagle/rainbow/lighting inspired artworks. You can spend hours here flipping through the inexpensive awesome vintage records. Unless you are violently allergic to cats, in which case you can spend maybe ten minutes before needing to clear the cute kitty controlled area. There are also some lovely bits of secondhand stereo equipment for sale in the front, record players as well as speakers and receivers, and some amazing art by local visionary artist Chris Dyer out front.

Yelp
I've been offloading and reloading ma collection des disques here for years and I am a solid fan. Sure, Phonopolis stocks new recordings on vinyl and that other place across the street from them does as well, but c'est pas vraiment nécessaire. One of my favorite things about this place is the fact that since all of their stock is used, one is very likely to find at least 12 records that cause them to stop for a second and just lose themselves in the madness that is said record's content/cover/bizarre and convoluted liner notes. This is the kind of magical wonderland that can eat up half a day if you let yourself go and dig through the insanity. For instance, today I left with a Hawai'ian Christmas album, an amazing recording of Tchaikovsky's 6th with the Leningrad Phil and Evgeny Mravinsky conducting, the Border Brass Band does Christmas ('tis the season), and a lovely freebie, Seal's 1994 self-titled release on cassette. In short, j'aime La fin du Vinyle. It's a lovely shop staffed by some great people that are always up to have a nice chat about music. They have some rad events as well which puts it up a notch as far as shops since they are involved in the community.

Yelp
Saw an ad stating that there was going to be a massive blowout sale here, so my brother's girlfriend and I trekked allllllllllllllllllllllllll the way up St.Laurent, blistered, hungry and tired and... it was totally worth it. Situated on the second floor of a rather shabby looking building, there was a ton of vinyl to look through, lots of giggle-inducing covers and all sorts of classics. There was even a Crown Heights Collective album! HELL YEAH! The sad part was although there were lots of records I couldn't wait to get my grubby paws on, most of them were scratched beyond worth. I ended up with 5 albums and 2 singles for a mere 8bucks. I didn't notice until I returned home that I was over charged, but 8 bucks is not bad to begin with. Will definitely return. Really glad to find a spot like this in Montreal.

Yelp
I was recently visiting Montreal and decided to check this place out. It's a bit of a trek from the city center in a somewhat shabby area. The store is on a second floor and after walking up a flight of stairs, one enters a dimly lit area and is hit with the smell of strong incense. The store appears to have a healthy stock of records, most of which line a shelf making for very tedious digging. I hunt classical and the bookshelf type setup coupled with very poor lighting made this all a chore which I gave up on within 15 minutes. There were a few crates on the floor containing lps but given the lack of lighting, I could not tell exactly what was inside of those crates. Most of what I did pull off the shelves appeared old and kind of worn. Needless to say, I left empty handed. I can understand the owners wanting to create a kind of bohemian, counter culture type of environment but heck, this is a retail establishment and people have to see what they are buying!

Yelp
First thing to note is that Death of Vinyl specializes in used records only - not new pressings / reissues. The store is located a little bit north of the popular "Plateau Mont-Royal" area where the majority of Montreal's vinyl stores are - but if used vinyl is what you are looking for, then a trip up to Death of Vinyl is worth your time. I spent a good hour digging around the 70's and 80's Rock bins at Death of Vinyl this weekend and I had great time, found some great albums in good condition at good prices. They were also having a 20% off almost everything sale - which was a total bonus. The staff are friendly and everyone I spoke too had pretty good knowledge about different music genres and eras. I collect Rock music but they have a pretty big section of dance music, jazz, and classical - worth checking out if that's your thing. They also repair, sell, and rent turntables and stereo equipment and the tech guy who does the work is right there in the shop - which is pretty unique.

Yelp
You cannot tell the condition of the vinyl due to the low lighting. Perhaps the lighting is poor to hide the condition as the 4 records I purchased were in terrible shape. Not easy to look at the records on shelves either. Won't be back.

R L.

Yelp
Record shopping in Montreal is pretty limited. Under these conditions, this is a fine place. You gotta be in a mode to devote a good amount of time to digging. The prices are ok.

Yelp
Death of Vinyl indeed. It's not for everyone and I am one of those people whom it is certainly not for. Unless you are a fan of old, scratchy electronic and jazz recordings you've never heard of circa 1970, this place is not for you. If you're looking for the latest Tame Impala record; head to 33. I went here in hope of finding some dusky jewel of psychedelic rock; all I found was dust, some really ugly wall art made by, I assume, one of the owners/workers, for sale for ridiculous prices. I'm sorry your cartoon pig drawn on cardboard nailed to wood is not worth 500$.

Yelp
The employees at Death of Vinyl are super knowledgeable and friendly. The electronics repair/sales department is top notch. Love it!

Yelp
this place was great. vintage records, the staff was cool, and i picked up 2 records. only problem was i got a vinyl that was scratched.... probably should have checked it first.

Yelp
best place to dig in Montreal. great staff and steady flow of "new" used records.
