The food is delicious and it is worth treating yourself to. The owners and members of staff are very welcoming. There is a car park but you need to be careful when driving in as the space between the hotel and neighbouring wall is tight. Unfortunately, in our room we could not receive BBC 1 or BBC2.

We had a fantastic meal at La Fleur de Lys. We were having a staycation in Shaftesbury and this place is a little gem. The service was excellent, our coats were taken at the door, we were led into a cosy lounge bar, offered drinks, nibbles, and the menu. Our order was taken and as we sat relaxing on the sofas our food was prepared. We were then taken to our table and had 3 delicious courses. I had a lovely mackerel pate on a bed of smoked salmon, and my husband had a good chowder. For the mains, I had a brill with a creamy sauce and prawns, which I really enjoyed and my husband had the venison, he said it was tender and tasty. As we were quite full we shared a chocolate box which was fabulous! A lovely evening with fantastic, seemless service from Mary and Marc and hats off to David the chef!

The food was excellent, well cooked, well presented by helpful friendly team. Lovely dining room leading to a terrace. In summer, with the doors open it would be wonderful, and on a grey November day it was cosy, warm and peaceful. The room was comfortably furnished and the wireless docking charger was an impressive addition, as were the individually wrapped biscuits. Good to have a cafetiere too. As detailed in the description, the approach to the car park is very narrow, and needed careful negotiation with our GLC (parking sensors screaming all the while). But a car park in a town centre hotel is a bonus. It's a fine old house and to me our quiet room at the back had a certain mustiness, but I have an acute sense of smell. My husband detected nothing, and I see no other reviews have mentioned it. It was better with the windows opened during our stay. We enjoyed our stay.

They sell themselves as "A restaurant with rooms" and that gives a mere hint of what they're REALLY about here, firstly, the rooms are beautiful, clean, & well maintained, their location literally couldn't be any better, just on the edge of the very lovely hill-top medieval town of Shaftesbury, it's a two minute walk into town and we'll worth a visit in itself, now then, the nitty-gritty, the food, OMG! I'm based in Leicestershire, and now I know how good the food is here, I can tell you that I would drive the 161 miles straight there for a feed here, no exaggerating, all three courses of my evening meal were absolutely stunning, the aromas, the textures, the sheer depth of flavours, I'm not gushing am I ? LoL Anyway, Don't take my word for it, get booking! You won't regret it

Wonderful stay, beautiful room, excellent little touches and fantastically clean and amazing staff.||Perfect distance from the town centre for walking.||Incredible garden which looked very inviting but unfortunately didn’t have time to utilise.||Will be staying again.

What a surprise. La Fleur de Lys deserves its good reputation. Food was of a very high standard and the service was discreet and professional. The chef came to the table to check all were satisfied and we were. I wasn't expecting such a treat.
