Feb 2026 Returning yo celebrate a birthday. We arrived when they opened at 11 am, were quickly seated, and Carlos was our server. He dis really well. We ordered burritos, quesadillias, and beef enchiladas. The food was good, and the place was quite enough to carry on a conversation. All around good times. July 2025 It's probably been about 6 months since I was last at this restaurant to eat. No reason for not returning sooner. Today's occasion was family get together of about 5 of us. We arrived at around 11:20 am for lunch and were quickly seated. Our server, Rau,l took very good care of us and was very attentive to our needs. Our drink and food orders were taken, and the food arrived within a relatively short amount of time passing. The food was very tasty. I had the beef enchiladas, another in our group, had a beef burrito, and someone else street tacos. All enjoyed a great time and good food, and it was easy to talk. I hope that should you take the time to visit this restaurant, that your experience is as good as mine.

We visited Alamo heights la fonda Friday evening, not busy a few people in the restaurant. It seemed like a nice place with plenty of staff moving about. The Atmosphere was average, staff courtesy was average and the food flavors were nothing to write home about. Food was cold when we received it, staff wasn't really attentive. Alcohol drinks were okay. The waitress brought out chips and salsa, the salsa was mainly tomato and water. I asked her if she could bring something more spicyer and she said thats all they had. I had the enchilada mexican plate and my wife had street tacos. We ended up going to La Fogata for dessert and coffee, which ended up being a much nicer place.

Great experience. The queso was really good. The tacos al carbon was very tender. My wife loved the chicken enchiladas. Great place!

Ruby our server was the rudest waitress I've ever had! Not only did she make me feel unwelcomed she persistented to belittle me when I asked her about my single order. I ordered one drink from the bar, she gave me my bill showing 6 people at my table when I explained it was just me! She went and gave herself a 20%tip! I said excuse me but why would you give yourself a large tip since you didn't even take my order! She insisted that I was wrong. I'll never go back if she is working. The bartender was awesome!

Rome was excellent, attentive and suggested so many delicious items from the La Fonda menu! He provided outstanding service, anticipating all of our needs. For first time La Fonda visitors we will be back and ask for Rome to be our waiter! Thank you Scott and Abby Brickey

Working with the staff at La Fonda to set up a small luncheon was effortless and wonderful! Angela promptly helped me schedule the menu, date, and answered every question! Everything was set up quickly exactly as we wanted. The food was amazing as well! Huge shout out to Rome, our outstanding staff member, who took such great care of us! We can’t thank you enough! We’ll all be bringing back our families to enjoy your hospitality again!

The Friday fish special (tilapia, $11.99) was fine but nothing memorable. The bean and cheese nachos with guacamole and jalapeños ($12.49) were a bit better (but pricy for what they were). The sticker shock hit with the price of the drinks: A Negra Modelo was a fair price of $6, but the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc was an eye-popping $14.99 for a single glass. That's MORE than the cost of an entrée, and it felt out of step with the rest of the pricing. The price of a glass of wine brings them down to 1 star. Everything else was good, but the wine price was highway robbery. I was shocked by that! On the plus side, the parking lot is huge, so finding a spot was no problem at all.

Lunched real quick and server Frankie was awesome!Mr. Bill talked to me for a future event and he was so attentive. They hold graduations, wedding, business parties, and they are flexible and not outrageous like other places with deposits and menus and all the shannanigans. Food was great and I love the customer service!!

Love this place Ya'll! Great food, locally owned. Wait staff are friendly but not intrusive. PLUS, gotta support our neighbors. Large chains fold up shop and go home when things get tough. Meanwhile our neighbors still need to eat. Support ALL THINGS TEXAN! Hope to see Ya'll there.

A fun Cindo de Mayo with our realtor, Leticia of @reddorrealtysanantonio. We met @lafondalamoheights for dinner. It was Margaritas, Mini Tacos, Nachos, and Flautas. So much fun meeting new people.

I seen a lot of bad reviews, but they seem to be pretty old reviews. So I decided to take my family and give it a try. We had a very sweet and accommodating waitress, which was the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, the food and drink quality didn't match the service. The mini street tacos had unseasoned, unseared beef that tasted bland. The chicken chalupas were no better...the meat seemed boiled with no flavor at all. The beans lacked even a pinch of salt, which seemed to be a theme across the board. Both salsas were incredibly watery. The red salsa tasted like plain blended tomatoes with no seasoning or spice. On the bright side, the tortilla chips were fresh, but again, no salt..and there wasn't any available on our table either. To top it off, my coffee cup arrived dirty, and I had to send it back. When I finally got a new cup, the creamer was spoiled. I ended up taking my coffee to go just so I could use my creamer at home. Overall, a disappointing experience despite the kind service. Hopefully some improvements are made in the kitchen. I am giving this place 2 stars because above all, I am grateful to have food in my belly. P.S La Fonda on Main never disappoints! Just 12 minutes away from this location.

04 Jan 2025 It's been a while since we've been here. So we go today (Friday). Not too crowded at 5:30pm. Rome is our server. I'm ordering the La Fonda #2 which has a choice of puffy taco. I said go chicken and he suggested the beef, so I went with the beef. It was pretty good. This plate also has a cheese enchilada, a tamale with guisada gravy, and a regular chalupa topped with guacamole. No rice and beans. A goodly amount of food. What was I thinking? I think Rome slipped in an order of beans that was non-existent. There was an extra bean charge on the receipt. An honest mistake? I didn't call him on it. The husband ordered the street mini tacos. They looked good and he said they were tasty. He also had a side of borracho beans and rice. The beans have a nice flavor. I really enjoy the chip salsa; it looks and tastes homemade. Flavorful, not too hot. The bill was $39. Not too bad for two people even with the extra bean charge. No drinks, just water. Go there.

Let me start of by saying that service was so amazing and everyone was so sweet. From the gentleman who seated us to our wait staff. We got to enjoy a margarita and great conversation. The weather was really nice so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the music that was playing and still able to have great conversation. We had such a great experience. I ordered beef mini tacos and they were so delicious and full of flavor. I really liked the salsa. Others had fish tacos and nachos but again presentation was great. I didn't get to take pictures because we were in the moment but if I'm In the area I'll definitely go again.

Pros: Location is convenient, Staff friendly and informative. Ambience is authentic. Con: Food is mediocre .

I ordered on Door Dash, mistaking this location for the one on Main. Actually, so it's clear, the Main location is not available on the app. Anyway, I ordered the cheese enchildas, with double rice. I received beans and rice. Minus one star, La Fonda Alamo Heights, please read the order requests carefully. Second minus star is that the generic plastic bag was not sealed in anyway, like the delivery person could easily mess with the food undetected. Other places, even McDonald's make a point of sealing/stapling or using sticker's (like McD's or Chik Fil A) to reassure the customer. The food itself, It is good, if average. The cheese enchildas are classic Tex-Mex style with just meatless gravy sauce which I like. I diced onions at home, you can't eat enchildas without onions! Am I right raza! The DoorDash app did not permit a request for onions. The complmentary bag of chips was nice, I appreciated that. The salsa was nice, too, but it was so pinche in a little styrofoam container like 2 oz. The chips and salsa at La Fonda is an unchanged recipe since at least the 70s in my opinion. It makes me nostalgic for all the Tex-Mex eateries back in the day when it was also a custom to have the liitle square mantequillas at the table, remember those?

The margarita, beans, tamale, enchilada were alright. Not impressed. I would recommend the beef fajita's and the rice. They were good. Service was also good.

Phenomenal service (Thank you Bill and Roman), food and drinks! We ordered the queso with our chips (drool!), fajitas and a strawberry margarita plus a lime margarita. Phenomenal. All of it! my #1 happy place in San Antonio!!!!!

We went to La Fonda, for a family dinner to celebrate my cousin and the church program she was in. It was pretty good Mexican food, and suffered only a little bit because we had amazing Mexican food at lunch. Not really their fault on that. I was still really full from lunch and so I had gotten just an à la carte chile Riano. The Riano was amazing, the crust was eggy, and it was huge. Very generous portions. I had ground beef that was seasoned well with cheese inside the poblano pepper. Could've used a little more spice, but otherwise very nice. I had a pink señorita to drink, and it was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their food, our weight staff was in training. And I think she was very distracted running around. She could've checked back occasionally more to make sure everything was on the table. But once again, she's in training. The restaurant was beautiful very nice atmosphere loved the decor on the wall, colorful Mexican plates.

this business closed some time back to remodel but they never remodeled their old dirty carpet still showing wear and tear same old dirty place. need to be remodeled.

i didn't know this place existed so close to my former home. my brother dr used her when i mentioned tacos. we ordered mini tacos and they were very good. our waiter was amazing and tolerated my sister in laws shenanigans. we will be returning

Whatever happened to La Fonda, they need to go back to square 1 and start all over. Awful food. Honestly, they should just shut down. Look at their ratings. Horrible quality and prices are wayyy too expensive for what you get. Food is extremely bland. Stay away from low quality, owner could care less shitholes like this.

We didn't even know this location was here, we happened upon it by accident and stopped in for lunch. It looks older, but is well-kept and inviting. It's got a Hacienda type theme inside which we loved. The food was moderately priced, but very very delicious. My taco salad came with a cilantro dressing that I would've never picked, but turned out to be fabulous, and their homemade praline was to die for! It was smooth and creamy. The waiter was very nice, and the manager was very helpful when I asked about the private room and back for a party. A big thing for me is clean restrooms, and this one has definitely got that.

I was impressed with food that was hot flavorful, beautifully presented and prepared. Staff happily greeted with a smile when customers entered and exited this clean and well kept restaurant. I was impressed. I almost thought I was downtown SA. Great job!!

The service was terrible the host was on the phone when we walked in and she didn't acknowledge us at all until one of my friends said " Let's try something else" Then she placed her call on hold. It took a server 10 minutes to come to the table and we had to ask for chips and salsa. The salsa was watered down but the roasted salsa was ok. I ordered steak fajita nachos were greasy and not that tasty. My friend's food was uneatable. Another asked for a swirl Margarita got a glass full of melted popsicle with alcohol! I'm in San Antonio and Mexican food is supposed to be damn good! I wish I could give no stars.

Not sure what's going on. This a go to since it's so close and have been going there since I was 10 years old and on Broadway, then Sunset Ridge. Waitress was extremely nice so no complaints there. my usual order is a chicken chalupa compuesta with no beans and a tiny order of queso. if you're from SA you know good queso. this was not, tasted like they've started using that canned stuff you get at sporting events, I love salt but it was inedible, also had a weird vinegar taste. chalupa had beans and very little chicken, maybe a teaspoon of guacamole. I barely ate any of it. I left the waitress $20 on a $7 tab, she didn't prepare the food. She asked me if I wanted to speak to the manager but it would have been useless. To boot I went at 5 p.m. It seemed weird that the parking lot was almost empty as this is notoriously an early bird place. The 5 tables that were seated around me seemed displeased as well. looks like if I want a mexican food snack it's gonna be Soluna or Paloma Blanca from now on.

Just a follow up after reading reviews . La Fonda Alamo HEIGHTS is owned by the the same company that owns Jims Coffee Shops. Which the health department has closed down 2 this year because of roach infestations . they are open now . I wouldn't eat at a Jims either. LA Fonda on MAIN is owed by the Lawton family . There food is good and the resturant is nice.

Not good. We were about 25 people having lunch (pre-seceduled). We had one waiter! ONE! For 25 people ordering from a VERY limited menu -- only 3 or 4 possibilities. It took more than an HOUR form me to receive one of the few limited items. MORE than an HOUR! And then it wasen't very good. Then, to add insult to injurty, that ONE waiter asked each and every person, standing in a long line, what they had ordered, and he checked out each person. Took over a half hour just to pay. Then further insults -- they charged a 25% gratuity for BAD service, mediocre food, and terrible wait times. Don't go! Ever. Really!

Love La Fonda! It's been here a long time and the food is still top notch. Service is great. Atmosphere is cheerful. But one suggestion-- the enchiladas have more chili powder in the sauce than they used to. It blocks the other flavors.

We love La Fonda on Main, but this restaurant was such a terrible and embarrassing let down. I don't know how this restaurant isn't consistent with the location downtown. I talked this place up to my boss who is very successful and he was so excited. This is a Mexican restaurant and the regular salsa is terrible, the tomatoes in it were disgusting, the first 3 things I always sample at a Mexican restaurant are the salsa, the rice and the beans. If those simple items aren't great the food is t going to be either. Our server heard us talking about how disappointing it was so he brought us a roasted salsa which was just okay. We had to add salt to it in order for it to really become remotely enjoyable. So my boss asked if I wanted some queso or some guacamole and I wasn't to excited about them so the server brought out a small serving of both. Again, just okay. When we ordered our food we were crossing our fingers that maybe it was just a line cook that was making the salsas and queso that day and maybe his taste buds were just off. Nope! Food came out and we were just as disappointed as we were with the original salsa we were greeted with. I had to show my boss photos of the La Fonda on Main to tell him that was the experience and food we should have received. Needless to say we didn't eat much of it and ended up grabbing a snack on the way back to the office to hold us over the rest of the afternoon. I think the owner needs to come in and clean house in the kitchen and train the chefs how to be consistent with their other location. Tasting the food before it goes out is so important and if the chef doesn't know good quality or isn't sampling then you need a new chef. Salt was a key ingredient missing from everything we were served. We will never go back to this location unfortunately and I'll never recommend it to anyone either. I had to ride back to the office in shame and apologize for my recommendation. So embarrassing.

Have ordered takeout from them twice and it has been good with no mistakes. I got the salad with beef one time and chicken the other time. Both times it was good with plenty of meat and avocado. My only complaint was the first time I ordered it had a creamy dressing which was amazing and the next time I ordered it was an oily dressing that was just ok. I swear it was listed as the same dressing! Still a great salad. More corn and beans would be good tho. Tortilla soup good, quesadillas also good with plenty of fixings. In general the portions are good and I like that they include chips. But why not add salsa as well, that would make a near perfect delivery option. Still Will definitely order again!

Margaritas from here are great true Mexican ambiance. Salsa and queso are my favorite here! Fajitas plates are always delicious. Friendly service they're quick to refill your drinks and check in if all is well

I did not dine in this particular time. I got my food to go. It was hot and delicious. A large bag of chips and salsa was included at no extra charge. The food was so much that my son and I split it and it was plenty.

My favorite Mexican food place in town! I have been going to La Fonda for 35 plus years and will keep going as long as it is around. Great food, great service and great atmosphere! Try the chalupa compuesta, ricks special and the guero guano...you will not be disappointed. They also have great fajitas and street tacos. Well shoot...now I'm craving it right now...I know where I will be for lunch manana! If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and go savor the flavor! 3 thumbs up!

Ricks special queso dip is awesome! Excellent authentic food. Arthur was an excellent server with spot on recommendations that were perfect. He was attentive and great to talk too as well. the margaritas were excellent, one of the best I've had without all the excessive sugar mix and plenty of fresh lime. restaurant is clean and staff super friendly and attentive. perfect music playing at the right volume. highly recommend. Great atmosphere, great margaritas and great restaurant.

Went to Lunch with coworkers and 5 Stars! Customer service was exceptional from start to finish and chips/2 types of salsa arrived with drinks within minutes of sitting down. We ordered after waiter gave overview of not only menu, but also Happy Hour and Monday Margarita specials...yes this Restaurant open on Mondays Food was excellent and we will be back!

Me and the wife stopped by and had a little lunch and Let me start off by saying the staff is friendly but lack attentiveness. The food is ok at best. I just can't get past the fact that they use packaged refried beans. The meal as a whole is ok which is not ok unless you strive for being ok. The fact that the whole restaurant is very dirty maybe ok is the best they can do. I would say that the owner/owners probably never eat at this here, since i do see them looking at this place and being proud of its condition or the quality of the product that's served. This place could be great but it's currently on a downward spiral. I hope they can make some positive changes.

If you're looking for mediocre Tex mex, find your nearest taco cabana. For the price, La Fonda over charges you. The location was dead upon arrival and service was sub par. No hostess at the front and the waitress cleaning the table looks at you like you're not welcome. They mistakenly forgot my dessert which was just over priced sugar on a plate. Save yourself time and money. Go elsewhere.

La Fonda has always had some of the best enchiladas in SA for years, and I'd still say that's true. Service was courteous, prompt and attentive. Atmosphere was pleasant enough, which means we were able to have a conversation without talking abnormally.

The only thing that we liked in this restaurant was the wallpaper above the bar. They took over the now-closed Silo restaurant: ripped out the first floor ceiling and made the main dining room two stories tall giving you the feeling of a big empty barn. The decor is half Mexican, half modern and have emptiness. Their food was not up to the average quality of the typical mom & pop Mexican restaurants here in San Antonio, but priced as HIGH ! Ridiculous prices. I will not go into anymore detail, go and see for yourself. Even their complementary salsa and chips had the most tasteless and hottest salsa we have seen recently. Their margarita was tasteless, causing us to go to the bar and ask for a slice of lime to give it some flavor. Again, as with all of my reviews, do not take my word for it. I actually encourage readers to go to every restaurant that I write a bad review on and... see for yourself.

Over the top, super fresh taco salad. Actual fresh Romaine, charred corn, two types of freshly shredded cheese, fresh tomatoes, and gorgeous slices of avocado served in a crisp tortilla bowl. I ordered mine with beans instead of meat, and the beans were delicious and smoky as well! The packaging was 5-star as well...I definitely want to try this place as a dine-in spot soon! Highly recommend!

And this has been my go to restaurant in SanAntonio for the last nine years! Always consistently great Mexican cuisine and a gracious attentive waitstaff! This is heads and shoulders above the downtown location! Love this place! I cannot recommended enough!

Very disappointed with today's experience. As someone who picks up a curbside order once a week from this location for my grandmother who adores a dish from here. I'm sad to say I will not be returning, due to the rude To- Go staff on tonight's shift. This isn't the first time I had a lady rudely hang up mid question of mine with no explanation, after calling to let them know I had arrived.

The food was better than on my past visits, however, I am not a fan of La Fonda's style of Mexican or San Antonio style in general. La Fonda's fresh guacamole was very tasty as were the tacos. However, the cheese enchilada with chili con carne was less than ordinary. The cheese was mostly cheddar and was not very warm. The chili con carne was not as good as the Hormel chili I get from the can. The service was good. I'm sure I will be back in the future as it is my sister in law's favorite.

I went to this La Fonda for the first time today and it'll be the last! The food was no good and it was overpriced and there were gnats. I got Mexican shrimp cocktail and they had the shrimp on this side of the glass instead of mixed in and it was the most bland shrimp I've ever tasted in my life! And I got Chile relleno which was no good either, no flavor. And even the salsa didn't have a bit of salt in it and was plain except for the roasted one was okay

I love this place, especially the brunch on Sunday's they have the best Barbacoa enchiladas..

ANSOLUTELY UH-MAY-ZING!!!! I have been here 3 times in the past week. So far I have tried the combo enchiladas, Ricks special, The LaFonda salad and the fish tacos. I drenched myself in pure yumminess each time. I cannot get enough. The Fideo is absolutely delicious. The hubs got that and, of course, I had to share. The beers are cold as well so that's a major plus. I'm not a big margarita fan but I did taste one and they are actually pretty good. I think a true margarita lover would be pleased.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It's not at the center of everything but thst is what adds to its charm for me. The fact that you can go to this location and there is hardly ever a wait, does not do it justice for how good the food is. The service and the food is always excellent to me. I have come here numerous times and service is always prompt and courteous. Food is flavorful and the meats they use are tender. I have yet to be disappointed when I visit this location. Prices are a little on the high side but in today's day and age, it is to be expected.

Worst "dining"experience ever! Atmosphere, staff, and food, and my once favorite Marquita were no more. My son, who basically grew up on the Broadway and Sunset location said "mom please let's go" it can't be that bad! It was! Don't waste your time and money! We all longed for Juan.

La Fonda is my go to place for Mexican food and margaritas with friends. They have great happy hour specials with appetizers and drinks. There lunch special as are great, and the wait staff is excelent. You should try it.

Food is good here one of my fav places to dine-in or order out. We always get the beef fajita with rice and refried beans. Chips and salsa is great here

Food is mediocre at best. Enchiladas were bland. Drinks tasted like they were virgins. Overpriced! First and last time! Don't bother

Staff could not be nicer - seriously every person working was super friendly and welcoming. I was here for lunch, so no drinks but I did enjoy the freshly made tortillas! I had green enchiladas ($11.95) which were stuffed with tender chicken and served with pinto beans and rice. Overall, it was "good" but there was an odd sweetness to many things that I'm not used to and didn't love. I'm talking the house salsa, the beans and even the tomatillo sauce. Anyway, I'd come back and try other things for sure!

I go there every Wednesday for lunch. Raul is our waiter and is excellent! The food is always hot and fresh.

Is there a limit to how many times one person should go to La Fonda during one trip to San Antonio? I certainly hope not, because I just went there three times in four days! (And the fourth day I went to La Fonda on Main!) I've been going to La Fonda since I was a toddler and it is consistently simply wonderful. I always plan to experiment and get something new but never do--my go-to is a chicken taco, tamal w/chili (LOVE the huge chunks of beef in the chili!) and if I'm feeling extra hungry, a guacamole salad. Don't bother with the rice and beans--why take up valuable stomach real estate with beans and rice when you could be eating more guacamole? The corn tortillas are *a little* thick for my taste, but they're always hot and fresh. The salsa varies from good to great, depending on who made it that day. Sometimes it's a bit bland, but that's easily rectified with a bit of salt. My only sometime-complaint is that some of the wait staff try to be heroes by not writing the order down. Don't do that! Especially when one or more in the party have special food-allergy-related requests! Why take a chance? Anyway, love you guys, and can't wait to go back to San Antonio soon, so I can eat my weight in legit Tex-Mex once again. Te amo, La Fonda. xo
