La Fonda Mexican Restaurant

The gentleman who is our server didn't listen to my drink order. Tequila soda lime TALL. In the pictures, you will see the short glass. And while he was asking about our order he kept leaning into us. Repeated order 2xs. My food was good but cold when it came. It was the special on Indian fry bread $16.99. I also asked him if it had any extra veggies in the shredded beef. He said "No, maybe a little onion" It had onion and... green peppers. Now I am not allergic but I can't eat peppers it gives me heartburn. Ugh! So I had to pick through it. Dude know your menu and the ingredients. Also, he talked in a very low voice. It was hard to hear him. I would not get that special again. My husband said his meal was delicious. We were here on a Tuesday What about taco Tuesday 🌮 🤔 Oh ya!! That's a thought. Oh, and our waiter looks like Col. Sanders but skinny.

I wanted to go to Fat Olive or El Tapatio instead but this was our 3rd choice and for good reason. Extremely mediocre - the horchata and the margarita were the best part about the meal. All the Mexican food blended together - unfortunate that once again you can’t trust any of the Google Maps reviews in a hiking / ski town. I would stick to fast food / chains or cooking your own food - you know what you’re going to get.

Growing up in Flagstaff, LA Fonda was our comfort food place, so naturally every time we come home we immediately come here. The food is always delicious, portions are enormous and the service is excellent!

Everything about this restaurant is phenomenal! The food, the service, and the atmosphere are second to none! This is a mandatory stop if you're in Flagstaff! We ordered the Carne Asada Nahos and the La Fonda Chimichanga............ absolutely delicious. The table chips and salsa are also fire!

My visit to Flagstaff, a friend of my girlfriend, took us here. It was amazing. You must eat here, you won't be disappointed.

We shared the special that day because it had more & we both love the pork chunks. It was 2 green chili pork enchiladas, 1 taco & 1 tostada! 😋 a little pricey for $20 but enough to share. Drinks were $3 each but it was really good iced tea!

The food was delicious! We did have to wait for a while (40 mins) for our party of 10 at 2PM on a Friday, which could have been a rush for them. The sopapilas were a highlight for us!

Love eating here. There is no inside waiting area at the moment but we didn't have to wait long to get seated. The booths have safety guards and the tables are safely distanced. Our waiter was the best he made sure that we had everything we needed and checked on us periodically. The food was delicious nice and hot. Would very much come back again.

Best Mexican food in Flagstaff. Love the green chili enchiladas and the cheese crisps and of course you can't forget the sopapillas.

Complimentary chips and salsa upon arrival. We had the "pick 2 specials" - shredded chicken taco, pork carnitas tostada, carnitas enchilada - all served with rice and beans, and sopaipilla. Such a great restaurant. Very family oriented. Be prepared to wait, the line will probably be out the door. Very large portions well worth the money. Glad I got to experience this local gem.

Cute little restaurant with awesome service. Our waiter was really nice and everyone there was so friendly. Just walking out the restaurant they were all saying goodbye and i really liked that. The food was decent but it did come out fresh and fast. The sopapillas were the best things there to me! They were delicious!

Went with a local friend who was singing their praises. I was visiting from the east coast and wanted some good Latin/Mexican food. At first I was nervous because of the large number of cars and people. We were told 15 minutes- it was slightly less and very well worth the wait! Our table of four ordered four different items aEVERYTHING tasted wonderful! Service was fantastic and when they learned we were celebrating the birthday of one in the group- they gave us complimentary Sopas!

I love love this place I was born and raised in Flagstaff!! This place will always have fond memories!! Eating with my folks who have both passed The prices have increased but what hasn't. The service is great, the place still the same wonderful atmosphere, and smell of food cooking amazing.

Unbelievable food. Sauces were excellent. Salsa flavorful with spicy chunks....- we took some Home. Great service. Patient and thoughtful. Knowledge regarding menu. Packed at 6:00 on a Thursday but no waiting.

Staple that never disappoints. Any enchilada is a good choice. My last visit I had the California burrito. Good for two meals.

Food used to taste good and I was happy to bring family here. This visit yesterday made me ill. Something is wrong with the chili renos. I had a bite and it tasted sour, I informed the server and she said they made it this morning well someone could have missed up the recipe and they are still serving it. I told her to take it off, that I did not want it. They did but after leaving I felt sick the whole day and had some issues. Today, I fell better but stomach still hurts, a food inspector should go there to make sure no else gets sick. Sincerely,

Ate here recently. Sadly, they no longer carry Grand Marnier. As back up liquor, I asked for Grand Gala....nope, 1800....nope. Settled on Patron. Thank God they had ice cold Dos XX Lager on draft. We ordered Sopapillas with butter, chips and salsa with queso for appetizers, and they were great. I had a 3 item combo with Carne Asada taco, Shredded beef taco, Bean tostada, and beans. Was all very delicious. Wife had Carne tacos with beans and she enjoyed it. Service was very fast. Within 5 min of receiving the appetizers our entrees came out. Asked for more napkins, chips and refill of waters and was maybe a couple minutes. I still recommend.

Busy dinner time, wait was not too long about 10 mins and was seated. Large plate portions be prepared to be stuffed take food home for later. Friendly ambience and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

Parking was convenient. We were seated immediately. Great for a quick lunch. However it took a long time to get the food to the table.

Very good Mexican restaurant that was packed with locals. The burritos were as big as the plate and provided 2 days of meals. Staff was awesome and seemed experienced to handle the pace of a packed restaurant. Tacos, rice, beans, enchiladas were all great if a tad greasy, but I'm not complaining. It's definitely me franchise Mexican food. Chips outstanding with homemade salsa.

No wonder this place is hidden, It should stay hidden. The food was iffy Canned jalapeños was something they used when asked for jalapeños . the salsa they served was a spicy marinara , not a salsa but felt like I was eating tomato sauce with oregano in it . I asked for some bottled hot sauce and they showed up with tobacco instead of tapatio this was another sign that this place was gentrified . Didn't like the verbiage they used to call the flauta they called it a picaro, definitely not authentic The service great, the ambiance was also great , some nice statues on the window sill. Very nice inside , other than the service and ambiance , the food will need major changing , I would definitely be calling my buddy Gordon Ramsay to come by and have a taste. New Mexico vibes for sure, not Mexican

Great lunch during the week. The food was very tasty, and satisfying. I don't know how we missed this place since it's been here so many years.

A great place for the family to relax and eat. Everybody leaves happy. Mom gets a margarita, dad gets a hatch burrito (or the burger!), and kids love the sopapillas.

I moved here to Munds Park, from phx. I had not been able to find a good place for mexican food. I found La Founda Mexican Restaurant in Flagstaff by accident, and I'm so glad I ran into it. The food is delicious, the amount of food was perfect, and the service was excellent!!!!

Always a good treat anytime of the day. Their chicken enchiladas are the bomb. Mmm... could eat at this place almost everyday if could.

The food and service is X-cellant!! Parkinglot needs to have more space . Food is hot and quick. They always smile and make you feel welcome. It had Mexican music with the delicious food smell cooking. Very awesome!

Had lunch here today with a work group. Ordered the California Burrito (15.49). Steak was dry. Fries inside were undercooked. Presentation was horrible with just a few slivers of iceberg lettuce on the plate. Service was good. Sopapillas with honey were brought out at the end of the meal. They were yummy. Won't go back. Can find much more authentic Mexican food for the price.

Not sure why this is a popular Mexican restaurant, but I'm assuming it's the large portions, festive busy ambiance, and nostalgia of a Flagstaff staple. Lunch pricing was reasonable for their specials that included chips/salsa, drink, entree and sopapilla. The appeal is there in that regard, but the food is too bland. There is no flavor. Quality over quantity any day. Service was quick but also forgetful because of the lunch rush. First time here and I don't plan to return.

I've been here a few times on trips to Flagstaff. La Fonda is an old family-owned restaurant that's been there for over 60 years. It is easily among the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in Arizona. The food is wonderful, the portions are large, the waitstaff keep the the chips and salsa topped up, and the prices are reasonable. When I find out a trip to Flagstaff is in the offing, I eagerly look forward to my inevitable trip to La Fonda. One thing that was complained about by someone was that she was upset that the staff would not seat her large party until they were all there. There is a sign on the front of the door that says this. I am glad of this policy. Customers who complain that they are not allowed take up a large table at a very busy restaurant until said large party all show up does not deserve to eat at a restaurant as lovingly run as La Fonda.

Whenever I'm in Flagstaff, have to eat at La Fonda's. One of the best Mexican food restaurants I've ever eaten at. Mexican food is not hard and they keep it simple. No foo-foo Mexican food here. They give you plenty. Their beans and rice are great. This place is always busy too. They throw in free sopapillas after dinner too. So if you're driving through Flagstaff or staying the night, I highly recommend this place.

Definitely a place to go if you want very large portions of traditional Mexican food. Great service from out waiter from Ohio! Always a wait which is a bummer. Margaritas were super sweet. Order a shot of tequila for $4 and add it on the side! Grilled chicken fajita salad was great.

I ordered green chili cheese fries to go. Where is the green chili? It's more so a cheese fries. Very disappointed with the food. Bland and not a bit spicy.

We stayed in Flagstaff and were highly recommended to try! I have the tostada with beef! It was piled high below the lettuce!! I could not even finish it. My husband had the cheese enchiladas and said they were great also!

$17.44 for the world's worst breakfast burrito. Highly recommend going elsewhere. Didn't even cut it in half. Chorizo is dry and bland. Woof.

Food was good and the service was excellent. I would eat here again. My only complaint is the booth seats don't match the table length, so the second person on the same seat will be seat on the edge, which makes for an uncomfortable meal.

Excellent kitchen- My chimichanga with sides was GREAT! Judy had the taco salad & kept eyeing mine. At 2:30p we had to wait for a seating. It moved quickly. Nathan was an excellent server & always available when needed. Ambiance Value $$ Would definitely return again & again Parking excellent & off 66; bathrooms clean n attended. Many locals eat here. How good it is.

La Fonda has been around for years. Food & service on point. A very friendly atmosphere. Always a great experience.

Michelle our waitress was awesome! Very friendly and service was outstanding. We had the lunch specials. Food was excellent. Family owned restaurant since 1958. I had the beef chimichanga and my girlfriend had cheese enchilada and beef taco they were outstanding. Queso dip was excellent. High recommend and we will be back.

Service is always excellent, their food just improves over time. Beautiful patrons. Hostesses aren't always the friendliest but the kind, attentive servers make up for that. I've been eating here since they opened and my family and I will keep coming back.

Great food and huge portions. A Flagstaff staple in Mexican cuisine. My kids love the sopapillas and my daughter says they have the best fries in town.

It was late and we were hungry so this place was listed as a having good margaritas. They were quite tasty but could not hide the tough, chewy beef fajitas we had. The salsa was pretty good and their chicken might be good, but stay away from the fajitas.

Recently visited Flagstaff and dined at La Fonda with my family. I was excited when I saw how popular this restaurant was by the waiting line. However, my personal selection of the Beef Fajita Taco Salad was a horrible experience. The beef was so tuff that it wouldn't even cut with a knife. I was forced to spit out every chunk of this chewy beef while trying to be discreet and keep the eating experience positive for my family. I honestly thought I would choke if I tried swallowing it! The other ingredients weren't very tasteful either! No cheese? It seems all the other dishes were good since everyone else was enjoying their meal. I merely wish to bring this issue up to the attention of the manager so that hopefully this selection can be improved on. The service was great but the floors were visibly littered and uninviting. Food is good. Service is slow and incompetent. A woman in braids messed up our order, promised to fix it and then we never saw her again. Same with the Waiter on another issue. The braids girl seemed rac1st or just intentionally "forgetful."

Great restaurant! Delicious carnitas. Amazing fresh chips. We loved the fact that we got fresh sopapilla's after we ate. Maddie and Mike were on top of things and made sure we had everything we needed. Especially Mike. We both noticed that he seemed to be working quick and going from table to table making sure he took care of anything extra we might need. They worked great as a team. Maddie was super friendly and recommended the salsa with avocado in it. It was definitely worth the up charge for the fancy salsa that wasn't so spicy for us. She was also very patient. Because we are from out of town and don't know the menu, it took us several times of her coming back to the table before we were ready to order. We even changed our order once and she was super nice about it and said that they could easily make our changes. We will be back! It had a laid back and family orientated ambience with several rooms that give it a at-home kinda vibe.

It was good! At other restaurants they don't really make my enchiladas right but, this restaurant made it right ! Love this totally recommend to people.

I really wanted to like this place. Salsa Brava was a 30+ min wait so I called La Fonda and they said no wait. Five min later got there and there were people outside everywhere. Told a 5-10 min wait at that point. 20 min later we were seated in a gross booth with chips everywhere on the floor. The seats were sticky. But...we were hungry and wiped our own seats and kicked some chips out of the way. Food was "mid". Not great. Not terrible. Husband got a salad that was a good size. I had a 2 taco plate for $18! Ouch. The others had burritos that they said were ok but pricey. The sopapillas were bland. They seem to have a good staff (besides the girl up front that lied about the wait twice). We got our food and chip refills and drink refills pretty quickly. And you never know- maybe they were short staffed or some tragedy behind the scenes like someone stole their vacuum and all of their cleaning supplies. But it really was not a great experience for us.

Used to love this place but tonight was my last visit. Cost of the food has gone up while the quality has gone down. There's too many other options to waste my $$$ here.
