La Fonda

Found this hidden gem in the heart of Montevideo’s old town and loved it! It’s on a gorgeous pedestrian street and the outdoor seating had a wonderful vibe. The indoor area was in a beautiful old building with an open kitchen so you could see the chefs at work. We tried both vegetarian salads and they were delicious and creative with fresh veggies from their garden. The tagliatelle noodles were hand made and were absolutely delicious. You could really tell that chefs love what they do! We would recommend this restaurant to anyone in or passing through Montevideo!

Best meal we had in Montevideo! Ingredients were so fresh and offered a unique take on classics like Milanesa (baked, not fried). The ambience was perfect, too!

One of my favorite restaurants in MVD! I’ve been coming here for 7+ years and have never had a mediocre experience. The owner is usually cooking. The service is always friendly. The pastas and breads are homemade and fresh. The menu is small, yet diverse enough to please almost everyone. I highly recommend La Fonda :)

Amazing fresh and light food! Portions were big for one person but at the same time it won’t leave you too full, mainly because the food is made super fresh. Hard to explain how my taste buds felt after tasting the food. All the compliments to the chef! The restaurant’s vibe is quaint and local in the middle of a busy street, with local food. We got the pasta and the steak, and it was SO fresh and light that it just melted in our mouths. Mario is such a sweet person and chef! Planning to go back everyday while we are here in Montevideo :)

Mario, the owner, is not just a chef; he’s a pasta genius. He welcomes you like an old friend, making sure every detail is just right. Imagine the bustling streets of Ciudad Vieja around you, echoes of José Artigas and the 33 Orientales still in the air. And there we were, tackling the **ravioli verdes** like true patriots. Two of us had it with Mario’s legendary tomato sauce – so rich, it could make an Italian mama weep. The brave one among us went sauce-free, letting the pasta’s freshness shine on its own. Mario was there, grinning proudly and making us feel like we’d discovered culinary treasure. La Fonda isn’t just a meal; it’s a piece of Uruguayan history, served up by a true maestro. If you’re in Montevideo, don’t miss it. Mario’s ravioli verdes will have you raising a fork in salute.

Food was super fresh, home made pasta, organic tomatoes sauce and delicious shrimps. I order the taglios with shrimp, really good they serve it with some bread rolls and a home made peas hummus paste, awesome. Menu is extensive and staff very friendly and willing to recommend

La Fonda is very nice and the food was wonderful. Specials change so everything is written legibly on a chalkboard. The servers are young and speak good English. Ordered the salad with shrimp and peaches and flan and a fresh lemonade. Don't forget To visit this one if you are a vegetarian and staying in Montevideo! Thank you, La Fonda.
