If you sailing through Capri or driving in Capri, this is the place one should visit. It’s other side of island which is quiet and have amazing scenic view. We sailed to this place from Positano and one can swim too outside the restaurant. Take your swimming clothes with you to enjoy both. Exceptional sea food heaven followed by truly Italian desserts. Sea Bass grilled was the highlight of the meals. Including side grilled vegetables with Zucchini in peak of its season. Everything they do in Italy has a detailed reasoning and certain cultural belonging attached to it. Here vegetables and seafood you eat is served as what is available in that time of the year. Staff was amazing and beachfront swimming area was very natural small pools in it. Do go for it if you can. Rum baba was one of the best you can have in Italy. Cocktails were truly refreshing and options available were very regional.

Well curated and clean beach club with no sand but beautifully private chairs and sun mattresses. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and had a nice, professional, and fun server named Franco. Highly recommend and we will definitely come back!

If you’re visiting Capri with a partner or friend, this is the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon in the sun! The private beach is absolutely beautiful; you must make a reservation in advance if it’s high season in Capri, but may be able to get in more easily in April, May or October!

La Fontelina is a “must” when on the island. The location is unique, with the amazing view on the “Faraglioni” (the Faraglioni Rocks). The restaurant/beach club is accessible via a panoramic stairway down from Belvedere Tragara or by boat from Marina Piccola. The food and drinks are amazing and the staff is professional and welcoming. The beach club’s style is very much unique and iconic; spending a half a day sun bathing and swimming in the crystal clear waters, to then and enjoy the amazing food is like living a dream. Booking is required.

This has probably been the most unpleasant experience i’ve encountered in all my visits to Capri/ Amalfi coast. La Fontelina has been on my top places to visit but turns out, it was truly disappointing. Mostly because of how unfriendly the staffs were and how unorganized this place is, especially the restaurant manager who really made us felt unwelcome literally at the moment we stepped in the restaurant. We had a reservation but were scolded off by the manager that we came 30 mins late even thought we call in prior to tell them that we will arrive 1:30pm because it took a while to get to marina piccolo. We ended up waiting for a table because apparently he gave away our table even though we called before arriving. Meanwhile, the other two couples got seated right away, even though we all got there the same time with the same reservation at 1pm. (There’s only 1pm and 3pm) This place lacks the hospitality considering it to be one of the most exclusive beach club. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. The food was good but you can find the same thing for so much cheaper elsewhere in Italy, or even better. The beach beds are not worth the money since you can’t even choose the spots you want and the service is terrible. The views aren’t as spectacular as some said, all you see is rock and there’s jellyfish in the water. It took us 4 times to get what we asked for as the waiter “forgot” about it. Overrated and pretentious place with price that doesn’t justify the service quality. This place is not the vibes at all.

Iconic beach club with full service restaurant located near marina piccolo in front of the famed Arc. The stuffed zucchini blossoms are excellent as well as their eggplant balls to start. Mixed seafood grill is always on point, Vongole always fresh and al dente. Great wine list. Cool scene. Come to eat or stay for the beach. Either way you are winning if you end up here.

Excellent Day! Expensive but your in Capri!! One of us thought the best pasta she had in Italy at our 1pm lunch sitting! Fab day! Worth every expensive penny!

What a dream come true to get a reservation at this historically star-studded restaurant beach club on the shore of Capri. This resort embrace the feel of Hollywood glam and luxury which began with the Fontelina's boat ride to the club resort. Once there your group can purchase chairs or mattresses and towels. There is a dressing room and a swimming area in the clear, crisped waters of Capri. Dining at the restaurant was grand too one of best meals I had in Capri.

Yelp
We spent 2 weeks in Capri for our honeymoon and the first fews days of it here at Fontalina. LOVED IT. Take a cue from the super yachts lining the marina, this is not a quick Peroni and spritz IG photo opp, in and out establishment. The family who owns this place is very protective of it's reputation and the culture that has seen Fontelina named along side some of the greatest beach clubs in the world. This is a club, you earn your respect and treatment at Fontelina and you come here to spend a day, relax, take your time and respect a scene and culture that has been developed and nurtured over decades. It took us 1 day to work our way from a decent section to the nicest corner available on the property, both at the beach club and at lunch. It's not cheap, we spent nearly 1k Euros a day for 2 and tipped everyone, bought merch, got to know the staff, made friends with other guests and had the time of our lives. Can't wait to be back. And PS, if you walk the switch backs to and from Capri town (and are in half way decent shape) its nowhere near as difficult as people make it seem.

Yelp
I loved it here! A once in a lifetime experience! We made reservations for one of their two lunch time slots by emailing them. We were also able to reserve spots at the beach club, which I would highly recommend. The walk there is rough. It's very steep and long. I would recommend taking the water taxi from Marina Piccolo unless you are wearing good shoes, don't have kids with you, and are ready for a hike. The rocky beach is gorgeous and the restaurant has such a cool vibe. Get the white wine sangria with the peaches for a refreshing treat. The caprese salad was the best I had in my 3 weeks in Italy. The mozzarella was insanely delicious! I also got the seafood risotto which was rich and amazing. They were very accommodating of my gluten allergy and even had gluten free bread for me. If you spend the day here drinking and eating, it will add up, but it's worth every penny for the location and quality.

Yelp
Go for the experience ... the food is mediocre, but there aren't a lot of places in the world like this restaurant. You will work for the experience! Unless you arrive by boat (and there are ways) ... going down isn't bad ... but coming up you'll have a very exhausting walk up several stairs and uphill paths. It's really quite a climb back up. No heights ... but quite a workout! You'll see lots of sweaty, out of breath people (whom are in shape) going up as you walk down. I really don't know if an elderly or overweight person could manage. Once you get to the bottom, you'll see a rather unremarkable looking restaurant with a thatched type of roof at the bottom of Capri's most famous natural rocks. The other side looks over the dazzling blue waters and an interesting beach club. The views are spectacular ... cliffs and blue ocean. There are lots of restaurants with views in Capri ... but none really like this. Dolce Gabana filmed its latest cologne comercial starring David Gandy at the beach 'club' connected. As mentioned, reservations are hard to get. Lunch only has two times ... I believe there is a 1 p.m. and a 3 p.m. reservation. You'll have a much better shot booking here if you have a concierge at a top hotel make the call. (Ours was Punta Tragara who got us same day reservations.) I believe they only start taking reservations 3 days out ... so you cannot make them in advance. They don't pick up the phone always, so keep trying and you might get lucky. We heard some people were not given reservations based on our chats with others, which is odd because during our 3 p.m. reservation, there were only 5 couples in the giant restaurant. The prices are pretty high here, depending on what you order. The fresh fish was 150 Euro per serving and the lobster was 230 Euro. Don't get too spooked though, they have pasta dishes and some seafood dishes between 35 - 50 Euro. You aren't getting out of here under 150-200 Euro for lunch for two with wine or drinks ... so it won't be cheap. The food was rather mediocre. The views and experience was fantastic. The waiter was very nice, spoke English and wore the traditional white outfit you'd expect from a fine dining establishment. He did go out of his way to remind us at the end of the meal that, although a per person table charge appears, (cash) tips are not included ... but expected. Be prepared. We started with the Frito Misto (fried seafood) which was mostly calamari rings and a large prawn and then several tiny shrimp in the shells, which are more work to eat than they are worth. None of the shrimp were deveined and there is nothing less appetizer than scraping a line of black shrimp shit out of your meal with a fork. It was also pretty bland batter. We continued with their seafood stew, which had a watery tomato based 'broth' with lots of crushed tomatoes. It was a good dish. Plenty of muscles and clams and big pieces of white fish and salmon. Maybe a bit light on the shrimp and scallops vs. clams/mussels for the price ... but satisfying. If I had it to do over, I'd have ordered the seafood pasta because the stew was not very filling as it was mostly broth and the pasta would have been more filling. The pasta special of the day was a stuffed zucchini pasta dish which looked amazing ... they brought one to the table plated up as an example of the dish. When ours came out, it looked like the example dish was left in the sun and melted. It was kind of a mess of cheese and leaves. It tasted good though and was the best dish we ate. Overall, the view and vibe more than made up for it. In the US, this place would be packed wall to wall with annoying tourists. Here, the clientele was for the most part pretty classy, it was reserved and relaxed ... we loved that it was not crowded and that we could enjoy the peace of the surroundings. With your lunch, you have the choice of reserving a spot at their unique 'beach' club for 39 Euro per person. There are little flat spaces made of cement where couples or small groups can lay under a blue and white striped umbrella. A cushion can be rented, otherwise you are laying on cement. You'll have a waiter/attendant. We skipped the lounging but it looked very cool and unique. Capri has very few sand beaches, so if your hotel has no pool, it's worth the price to hang out here. While the actual food was not the best we had in Italy (maybe we ordered wrong ... at least everything seemed fresh) the experience was one of our most memorable in Capri. We enjoyed it and recommend anyone who is in Capri for a few days get a reservation here, if they can. This is like being in a movie location ... one of the most interesting (and famous) restaurants we've been to and worth the walk up/down.

Yelp
So much hype for uncomfortable chairs and overcrowded "beach". I don't get it. Restaurant was fine- nothing special. Not at all worth the trek to get there.

P. O.

Yelp
The food and ambience were amazing. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant So kind and friendly

Michael H.

Yelp
I came here as part of an epic trip. I really thought this place was amazing. The ambiance was gorgeous and the service was attentive and friendly. It was a really nice place to relax and people watch. See and be seen! I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Capri and looking for a sexy vibe!

Christina A.

Yelp
The hostess was completely rude to us. As we approached we asked her about a sign that asked for 40 euros to access their beach club which we thought it was the price to get into the restaurant. After she told us it was just for the beach club we decided to sit near the water and grab a drink and some food. She repeatedly told us we had to order food in order to be seated near the water. I repeatedly told her we would but she was so skeptical and made us feel very unwelcome. The location was great and the food decent (kinda pricey for what it is) but this hostess should not be in the service industry. She was very rude and not friendly to tourists. Even asking her where the bathroom was she would roll her eyes and sigh as if it was not her job to help paying customers.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Came here for a nice little beach day. In order to sit at the beach you have to dine at the restaurant as well. Well, so glad that was the case because this ended up being not only the best dish I've had in Italy but also one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. We ordered the special which was a crepe with fresh tomatoes and Basil. My god it was so good. Staff were extremely helpful in getting us a water taxi as well. Last but not least sitting at the beach was lovely as well.

Chris H.

Yelp
Enchanting, unique, memorable. I imagine all of these words have been used innumerable times to describe La Fontalina but they are all accurate. Begin by placing yourself on a gorgeous island off Italy and then from its heights descend to a rocky outcropping upon which is perched a beach restaurant that for views and style all other beach restaurants aspire to. Remember to spend the whole day there and make reservations for the umbrellas or beds. It's not convenient nor cheap but worth it. When your reservation (and yes don't even think about showing up without a reservation) you walk up from your umbrella and have a incredible selection of the best Italian pasta and seafood to choose from. Make sure to top off with a pitcher of their Sangria (it is hot there) and take in all boats anchored in the bay. A not to be missed experience.

J S.

Yelp
Lovely setting and friendly staff.......came by water and had a particularly enjoyable lunch. Extensive and reasonable wine selection which paired wonderfully with fresh fish offerings. Nothing was rushed. I have to recommend.

Sue D.

Yelp
We spent the day at La Fontalina while in Capri. The setting is second to none with sitting areas on large rocks overlooking the water. It's definitely Instagram worthy! You need to make reservations as it fills up quickly. You are asked if you want a chair or mattress for the day. We took half chairs and mattresses for flexibility. Umbrellas come with your space. Towels are extra. We brought our own. The water access is not like beach access. It's just two ladders to get in and out but it's a nice swimming area that my family really enjoyed. I didn't see much beach club service as far as coming to see if you want a drink, be it water or a cocktail. If you tracked someone down, they would bring it out to you. We did eat lunch there. The food was good and the service was quick. It is on the pricier side. The white sangria was so refreshing, served with mango and red grapes. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We took the ferry over to Capri from Sorrento. We took The Funiculare up to the top of the town. It's a short ride and iconic. From there it was a 15 minute walk down the other side to the beach club. You can also do a water taxi but we wanted to see more of Capri so we walked there.

Lauren G.

Yelp
This is a review of the beach access, NOT THE RESTAURANT. Pros: - access to the water after a long, long hike around Capri and down a ton of stairs to get to the beach bars. - cocktails served at the beach bar are decent! We split a margarita for 14 euro. - showers to rinse off saltwater - nice bathroom area Cons: - expensive as heck! 28 euro PER PERSON, just to access the water and get a beach chair. - extra 5 euro per beach towel - extra 10 euro to put up the umbrellas, that are already cemented into the ground, right next to our beach chairs - snobby! Tried to turn us away and then I pointed out the beach chairs that were right there, and they said those were available if we paid - the hike down to the beach club is looooong. Many, many stairs. I'm thinking there may be boat access, but we didn't look into it. - nothing to use for floating. People were untying the life preservers to use to to float - which didn't feel very safe. - only one ladder up and down into the water, so there was often a traffic jam to get into and out of the water. - don't look it up on google maps, it'll lead you the wrong way. Use the signs posted nearby for Da Mario's and you'll see the turn off to La Fontelina.

Steve A.

Yelp
The sea was choppy so we walked. It's a long walk down a long staircase but you work up a good appetite. The service is great and the view is terrific. The menu was great and hard to choose what to eat but both of our meals were delicious. If you walked there you will probably want to take a water taxi back.

Amy P.

Yelp
Better in past but still great spot for ocean dining and overall vibe experience. Incredible le setting at beach club. Appetizers from buffet include delicious artichokes onions eggplant etc. Had fish of the day. Large enough to share. Pasta with tomatoes and arugula nice and let. Dont expect alot of tomatoe sauce in this area. Mediterranean with garlic and oil is populat.

Sofia C.

Yelp
DO NOT eat here. I found a dead rodent in my food. Not to add that the service is by far the WORST you will ever experience. I promise you ... it will be a HORRIBLE experience and the food was inedible and not sanitary.

Jiggly P.

Yelp
Go here if you enjoy being treated like a homeless person whilst spending hundreds of dollars. You get a great view of the rocks but the water is very rough and it's difficult to get a nice swim in. We were surrounded by people posing for Instagram photos - it was painful. And most people had to get up and check on every drink or bottle they ordered, service was awful. Food is average but your forced to eat here if you want to book the beds. I recommend Lo Scoglio for beach clubs! The service there was amazing and i saw Andy Cohen there so...

Anat S.

Yelp
I had high expectations for this place. I booked it weeks in advanced and had to hold it w a credit card. The place is beautiful and food is fresh. Nothing more. The prices are high, the taste of the food is just ok. Nothing more. At the end of the meal the waiter said the top is not included... you can find many better places to dine.

Alison L.

Yelp
My crew had a hilariously memorable experience coming here for lunch. Google maps will tell you that it's only 2 minutes away but it's actually 15 minutes straight down the steep and winding hill. Don't worry, you can keep reading because there's a boat/bus combo that takes you back afterwards. All that hard work will be rewarded with a tasty caprese salad (in Capri!). Look forward to a mozzarella ball the size of my fist nestled in a bed of tangy arugula and juicy tomatoes. Absolute perfection.

Mel W.

Yelp
Beach view is beautiful. Chair rentals are 28euros. Umbrellas are 15 euros. Alcoholic beverages are from 8-16 Euros. You will definitely be spending a lot here. The food is overpriced for what you get. Lowest meal is 20 euros. They charge a 5 euro service charge per person. Ridiculous. The staff hover over you while you eat. It's weird and annoying. It's like they're rushing you. I recommend going to the beach if you can just do that but don't eat at the restaurant.

J G.

Yelp
Amazingly beautiful location. Beach chairs and umbrella at reasonable costs considering you can use them from 10am-6:30pm. For beach club access you have to make a lunch reservation. The lunch was great and we felt like this was one of the best values for the experience we've had here in Capri. A must go!

Amanda W.

Yelp
My husband and I were in Capri for the day and I did some research and came across La Fontelina. A lot of "celebs" come to this beach club so I knew it was going to be somewhat pricey, but it was worth it. Legit beach beds amongst the coral of the water. You can kind of see the Faraglioni rock formation from the beach club too. We also had lunch at their restaurant and had some of the best fish during our stay in Italy.

Khyra T.

Yelp
Hands down the best food I've ever eaten in my life! I rarely give a 5 star and if I can add another star, I would. The service is amazing, the food is very flavorful, the ambiance is fantastic... I mean what more do you want? I ordered an eggplant pasta dish that I managed to finish instantly. There's something about how fresh their vegetables are... I can't pinpoint what's makes their dishes so great, you just have to try it to understand what I'm saying. DO NOT pass this place up if you are ever in Capri, there's a reason why people are willing to rent boats or hike down to get here. Granted it does come with a huge price tag, but if you care about food quality like me, it's so worth it!

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
While the views are beautiful, I have never encountered a more pretentious or rude waitstaff in my life.

Anthony S.

Yelp
If I could give it a 0/5 I would. Overpriced and extremely rude. We had a reservation made and had it confirmed via Caesar Augustus which is the best hotel on the island and the manager of la fontalina said we did not have our reservation. The la fontalina manager then puts us in the worst spot saying this is for non reservations. Then I call hotel Caesar Augustus to have them send an email confirmation of our reservation and they still talked were talking trash to us and made us feel unwelcome. (We had a reservation this entire time). It is a tourist trap. Waste of money. Period. The only reason they are in business is because of the view and the exclusiveness but honestly I would rather just go to a public beach and not blow like 100€ for water, and a shitty spot to sit there on an old mattress.

Arian N.

Yelp
The views are fabulous. The food however is just good. What really made me frustrated though was how rude the staff were. They basically treat the guests who are known to them very nicely and the rest of the guests are considered second class citizens....the boss boy who brought me my check, made sure to mention 2-3 times hat service was not included...it would have been nicer just to ask for a tip...we usually tip 15-20% but I decided not to tip at all. Also 10 Euro per person cover charge doesn't make any sense...all in all not an amazing experience unfortunately.

D W.

Yelp
We were only on Capri for a day trip and decided to spend the bulk of it at this highly recommended beach club/restaurant. We didn't have reservations but luckily we were able to get in (so tip is to make reservations!). This isn't a soft sandy beach area - rather, they set you up with beach chairs or towels among the rocks surrounding the slightly rough waters. It was actually quite a fun experience, but the highlight was our lunch! Not only was the view fabulous, but the food itself was super fresh and delicious! I literally had the best octopus salad I've ever had in my life - and I've eaten A LOT of octopus salads in my life. It's a bit of a splurgey place but worth every penny (or euro). For pictures and a more detailed review visit my blog post at: http://travelbitsandbites.blogspot.com/2014/10/day-trip-to-capri.html

Alexis H.

Yelp
Gorgeous! We had a full day private boat tour arranged through Capri Relax Boats and they dropped us off at La Fontalina for lunch. The seafood fettuccini was unbelievable (shrimp, lobster, squid, mussels, clam, octopus) and the views were great. An excellent way to spend a seaside lunch away from the crowds. We were able to take our left over bubbles back to the boat with us too which was nice.

Megan T.

Yelp
La Fontalina is a beautiful restaurant located in a magical spot with breathtaking views of the serene water. The food is outstanding. The service is awesome and I would highly recommend!

Ashley B.

Yelp
The beach club and the restaurant are overpriced considering that you can get much better food and service on the island for the same (or slightly lower) price point. The establishment is certainly a tourist attraction. Nevertheless, the views of i faraglioni are amazing and it makes for great photos.

Marjorie H.

Yelp
I also had high expectations for this place. I made reservations here a week ago and I was seated at a not so desirable spot. Lounge chairs on concrete was not what I expected. Some servers were rude and snotty and food was subpar for the cost. For the amount of money we spent here I didn't think it was worth it.

Joseph G.

Yelp
I read a lot of reviews about this place and was a bit hesitant. After spending a couple of hours at Marina Piccola Beach (it's a must) a boat picked us up and took us to la Fontalina! The boat ride was quick and had amazing views. Once arriving to the restaurant everyone greeting us and we were sat down immediately! Drinks came out fast and food was a lot better than we expected. Like I said the past reviews worried us BUT I don't understand what those people were talking about .. I guess if you're cheap this isn't the place for you but the service was great / quick & the food was excellent. Only giving 4 stars because the desserts are sitting behind a glass for who knows how long. The beach is also very nice. This place is a must if you visit Capri.

Doug S.

Yelp
Don't fall for the hype. Arrogant and pretentious crowd. This is probably my 10th visit and I always forget how annoying the experience is because the scenery is so spectacular. But I'm done giving these guys 30€ a person to be treated poorly by a staff who only cares about the next launch to pull up with a wealthy dowager. Every other place on Capri you are welcomed back with a genuine smile and sincere handshake. Stick with the locals at Marina Piccola for the lovely day you came here for.

Jasmine W.

Yelp
This is pure heaven Italian style! Been here 4+ times. Always amazing to enjoy fabulous food in incredible surroundings! After lunch get a matt on the rocks and relax !Highly recommend the steep walk back to town to burn off some of that gluttony .

Mair C.

Yelp
A friend recommended La Fontelina as a must-do on our trip to Capri. She was spot on. The views were spectacular and the food was excellent. We both had spaghetti with clams and it was the freshest tasting dish we had in Italy. Our hotel made reservations for us, but unfortunately the boats weren't running that day so we had to hike up and down the cliff. It was worth it! Because we weren't sure how long the walk would take, we arrived early. They were getting ready to open, but very graciously allowed us in, seated us at a great table, brought us drinks and bread and treated us very well. It was a very memorable lunch in Capri!

Melanie L.

Yelp
Some of the best pasta and fish we have ever had! The view is spectacular and the food is just as good! The walk down the many stairs is worth it. It felt like a secret hideaway you only wanted to share with the people you love. The flavors were unbelievable and although I wasn't hungry when I sat down, I ate every bite. After the glorious meal we sat on the beach and swam in the freezing ocean. It was a perfect day! There are boats available to take you to the next cove to avoid walking back up the hill.
