If you're looking for a great "glamping" experience, this is the place. La Fortuna at Atitlan is an exquisite 6 bungalow resort tucked into the jungle on a former coffee finca. If you want to get close to nature without living in a tent, La Fortuna will give you the jungle living vibe, with deep relaxation of body and mind.||The resort cannot be reached by road, only by boat which makes it even cooler to me. I imagined the old "Fantasy Island" TV show as I arrived, welcomed at the dock by Gabriel and three dogs, all very welcoming and glad to see us. Our three hosts, Gabriel, Isabella, and Enriqué provided the highest level of service, filling all positions from concierge to bartender with a smile and service-excellence attitude. If you're lucky enough to meet Enriqué's Chihuahua, "Casino", then you'll really have a smile on your face.||La Fortuna is a family owned "Nano Boutique" hotel that is entirely off the grid. That doesn't mean they are lacking any of the modern amenities, just that they do it smarter. For example, the sauna is in a converted VW bus, and is heated by wood burning fire along with the hot tub.||I was especially impressed with the restaurant and the price of the food and drink. Considering that you're quite secluded here, they could take the opportunity to charge a premium for food and drink, but they don't and the value is really high for what you get. We ate dinner every evening here, a fixed offering menu that was outstanding. They even have a wine cellar to choose your dinner bottle from.||Our bali hut was really comfortable and tranquil tucked into the forest, but I'll warn you to bring plenty of bug repellent lotion or spray because your open to the forest hut is also open to all flying creatures.||If you're camping averse like me, this is as close to camping as you'll ever come, but you'll feel a oneness with nature that you don't get at a larger hotel. It's a unique experience I'd recommend for everyone (except children).
