The Best Food Neighborhoods in the USA - AFAR

"I order a royal grill feast here—platters heaped with morcilla (blood sausage), tira de asado (beef short rib), molleja (chicken gizzards), and chinchulines (beef intestines)—and bring friends (and a bag for leftovers) to enjoy the Argentinian abundance." - Ashlea Halpern

Today we came to Fusta restaurant for a family birthday. Such a great time. The service was great, Nazar was very attentive, friendly and kind,he gave such a great service. The food was super good. This place is a must come if you are in the area. The atmosphere was nice, calm. It's not so big inside but is worth it. Great for any type of event. We all order different dish and everything was super good..I order skirt steak, spinach and mashed potatoes. Super delicious. The calamari also very good..usually I order this on other places and the calamari is always extremely fried like rubber not here. Totally recomend this place and I would definitely visit again. You can get an idea of some of the dish below..ahh let's not mention for the coffee lovers like me,my expresso shot is a must, super good. Note: the calamari is serve with lettuce but we ask no lettuce just the calamari.

LA FUSTA was a bustaa. Sorry to say, but this was my first time going to this establishment, which I saw many good reviews, so I believe that because of the special day being sunday(MOTHER'S DAY).they were not well prepared for so much confusion,so I'm rating my bad experience on one day,but I will be back to try and give a better review on a slower day.For one was a small place and parking was challenging on tonelle Avenue, in new jersey.for this particular day.It started off with 2 waiters coming for our orders ,we told the second waiter that we put our order of drinks and appetizers with the first waiter. Never served the bread, butter, or the famous chimi churi sauce.i believe you have to pay for bottle water because they never brought regular water out,so we continued to ask for more bottled water 💧 cause it goes fast in our party.lol..the appetizers were not bad but as you look at the picture of the fried calamari plate it was more lettuce than calamari ( a rabbit would've enjoyed that dish) they must've been running short on calamari. Another suggestion if when ordering grilled Argentinian meat plate and you don't eat intestines, ask for no intestines cause it brings the most, and one of other meats which have to say were very good. Plus, the chimi churi sauce was delicious. As well as the salad was plenty with all you can imagine and very healthy and delicious. Oh yes,and the shrimp soup was not bad. My Personal recommendation is this place to book on holidays or special occasions not recommended maybe on a regular day they might be better 🤔.we paid over $200, not worth it .Sorry to say very expensive, but it was a special day, and they also had another limited menu, not their regular menu.

*My wife and I we was just talking about this place and here we are we decided to join for lunch. *So far the Mango Sangria is not bad at all it does worth the price. I really recommend the Argentinian Grill it is Sooo Good, but you have to come Starving because is a lot of food. *The service at the moment is outstanding by Sebas the Manager. Keep it up Guys. I wish I can give 20 stars because is well deserved.

I have to tell you, if your are going to this place, probably you have to come back, the food is awesome and the attention is A+, I definitely need to come back, the young guy that attend us, was a professional and he knows everything about the menu, it seen that he is very prepared for this job and to treat with the costumers, I have a very good experience here, sorry that I couldn’t take pictures of the food but here is one of the dessert.

We ended up at this restaurant after our flight was canceled. It was a delightful surprise! We arrived about 30 minutes before the restaurant was due to close, but the servers and live music welcomed us warmly. Kevin was very friendly and recommended some dishes for us. The two of us shared some empanadas and a smaller portion of the mixed grill. The mixed grill was enormous, with a portion large enough for at least four people! The steaks were perfectly cooked to medium rare, and the sweet bread was delicious (even though I am usually not a fan). It was the perfect dish to share and taste a bit of everything! If you love steak, this is the place to be!

Yelp
The food is really delicious. I'm a fan of the watercress and shrimp salad. The churrasco is really good and the wine selection is really good. Definitely a place to go

Yelp
Parking lot available! That was a major plus for me. The staff was so friendly and answered all of our questions s. We started off with the heart of palms and prosciutto. Loved that app. Then I got the mixed grill for me because I got to try all the various meats and still had plenty of leftovers. Skirt steak delicious. Short ribs were a bit tough to eat but loved it too. All cooked perfect and flavor was great. Didn't have to add butter or salt. Ended with the crepe and ice cream. Wow the sauce inside was like a dulce de leche / caramel type sauce that I wanted to bathe in.

Yelp
A staple and gem in the area! Don't let its location confuse you, worth driving on Tonnelle. Their Argentinian steaks are amazing. The service is the best, you can tell the place management is great since the server have been there for over 5-10 years. Highly recommend steaks and drinks. Love it here!!!

Yelp
Ive been to many Argentinian restaurant before but so far this is one of the Best! Did not know this place until a client recommended it. I saw on yelp it was only 3.5 star but hey my husband and I gave it a try. I thought this place will be in mall but it was off route 1-9 next to a hotel. Looks like it was close but parking was in the back. Ambiance: 4/5 Traditional sit down. Enough room/table. Service: 5/5 Welcoming, excellent Food: 5/5 Good portion size, meat cooked to perfection Price: 5/5 Affordable; no extra penalty for cc payment, no liquor fee Tip: 5/5 - very Honest, they calculate it based on pre-tax Room for improvement: Need more bathroom cubicle

Yelp
For almost $80 per person, food was disappointing, service was erratic. Our friends invited us for a birthday dinner, otherwise, we would not have gone. After this time, it will be first and last. The beginning was already a bit strange as we asked for an Argentinian wine to go with the Argentinian meal and the waiter said they did not carry it. A bit later, he said they did have it. The ceviche was bland and seemed like frozen shrimp with some salsa on it. The morcilla (blood sausage) tasted bland and a bit expired. This is a grill restaurant so knowledge of different temperature should be a basic given; but they don't seem to know what "black and blue" means and the steak was not "black", only blue, raw inside. Maybe they didn't have a torch or don't know what it means but either way, it could have been fixed with simple honesty, "No, we don't do steaks that way" or "We don't have a torch." The meat was also bland; I can make a better steak at home. The sides were tolerable but not great for the price. Everything is pretty much a la carte, so don't expect any main dishes to come with any sides. The waiter, bus boy kept coming back to take things away even though we were still eating. It felt like we were not welcomed and they just wanted us to go away. Skip this place! Just go to an Outback Steakhouse. I am not a fan of chain restaurants, but at least you get your money's worth.

Yelp
Visiting here from Boston with my soon to be Husband, we're sitting at the bar having a great time. The bartender is awesome. The drinks are even better and the steak is amazing. Super juicy awesome food.
google avatar

Yelp
Horrible food. The chicken does not taste like chicken it taste like fish sticks. We barely touched our food. I took a bite out of my plate and they refused to remove the item off the bill. They did offer to replace the food with dessert or a different item but after having such horrible food, I did not want anything else. The only positive thing is the atmosphere and our waiter was an amazing.

Yelp
This is a legit argentinian restaurant I never been disappointed. The parrillada with the best chimichurri is great as well as-the empanadas. salads. good wine and the panqueques are delicious Great Service I-have been going there since the 80's

Yelp
2nd time here w/ a large group of friends. Services always great, they don't rush you out. Food is just ok to me, I don't like how they over cook their vegetables. My clam dish wasn't as good as the first time I tried it, missing spice. This is a meat eaters paradise, so my friends were happy with their dishes.

Yelp
If you are a meat lover, this Argentinian spot is paradise for you! I was introduced to La Fusta by my brother in law who is obsessed. Turns out my niece is too, but for other reasons...she loves the ravioli and bowl of candy at the front. I've also had their pasta previously and was pleased. Back to the meat... the parrilladas are extremely well portioned and can be shared by at least three people. For the amount of meat you get + 2 sides, $63 feels like a steal. The biggest difference I noted between the American and the Argentinian parrilladas, is that there is tripe, blood sausage and no chicken in the latter. The Argentinian one is for sure the more "adventurous" one and the consistent favorite with my crew. The MVP is their chimichurri sauce. Lordy! It needs to be bottled up and sold to the masses. It's garlicky with a tinge of spicy...pure perfection. Please douse it all over the complimentary bread, but pace yourself because you may not want to stop. The La Fusta salad also gets 11 stars. Absolutely delicious. The artichokes were a nice surprise. Perfect accompaniment to the meat, but also stands alone as its huge and very flavorful. The sangria has tons of fruit, but doesn't exactly pack a punch. We got the passion fruit flavor. I can do without the alcohol at this place. All in all, I've enjoyed coming to La Fusta and it's always a welcome suggestion when really hungry and craving good food at affordable prices. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Located in North Bergen, this Argentinian restaurant is a must try for meat lovers. I ordered the skirt steak with shrimp just to try a mix of the beef and seafood. I ordered my steak medium and it was medium (always nice when restaurants get that right). The marination on the meat was so delicious. The shrimp was also really well cooked. The sauce that came drizzled on the dish was tomatoey and oily and went really well with the steak and shrimp. I also loved the charcoal taste of the overall dish. I also tried the dessert that the waiter recommended (I forget what it was called exactly but it was a crepe). It was a great recommendation, the dulce de leche stuffed in the crepe was delicious. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because of the service. It's not the best service, the waiters were kind of rude and didn't come back to ask if everything was okay. Also, they ended up charging us $8 for a bottle of water when tap water would have been perfectly fine--they didn't give us the option.

Yelp
Passed by many times and finally stopped. It was excellent. Neighborhood's not the prettiest but not that that stop you from coming here. Awesome steaks, and mixed grill. Very good wines. The service was excellent too. Also has a bar area to watch soccer games. And they have Quilmes beer which I love. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Best of the best . Best Argentinian food, best parrillada, best chimichurri sauce . Best of the service. I recommend it 100%. I always go there and never get disappointed.

Yelp
Great and authentic Argentine restaurant! Will be back again. The asado, tango and wine are amazing to say the least, must stop by

Yelp
Love this place and will come again. They had a person playing saxophone this night. We came to celebrate our anniversary and it was wonderful. The empanadas were truly authentic Argentinian and full of flavor. The house sangria was strong and delicious. The gnocchi took me to Buenos Aires even though I've never been lol. The parrilla was really good too and the dessert to close out was heaven. We will definitely come again.

Yelp

Yelp
If you're trapped in New Jersey and missing Queens restaurants, it's a nice surprise when you're perusing Uber Eats and find of those places somehow has a branch in NJ. The heart of palm was best part of the avocado salad and was also acclaimed at a family outing to the Queens location, so that might be the best candidate if you need one vegetable to offset the meat pileup. Opting for the tried-and-true over experimenting, I got the American grill. The details aren't available on the website at the moment but if it's the same as the Elmhurst location it features short ribs, skirt steak, sausage, chicken breast and a pork chop. As of press time I've had about 76% of it, but great stuff, especially the short ribs. It's nice that I don't have to worry about table manners because this is really a great hand food. And the chimichurri is outstanding.

Yelp
One of a kind. We went for dinner and we were met by very friendly waitstaff. The table, the glasses and silverware were all extremely clean, which is always something I look for. Its a sign. The food, fish or steak or anything on their menu. really, was 100% top notch. A hidden gem in Hudson County.

Walter G.

Yelp
Good food and ambiance, we like this place a lot. Good pleasant crowd, the Parrillada is big and very well prepared. Be ready to eat a lot this place doesn't skimp on their plates.

Karen V.

Yelp
Food is amazing, servings are great and service is 6 stars. Ordered take out and dishes came in black plastic containers that are heat-resistant so easy to reheat in microwave in minutes plus extra sauces on the side that is very convenient
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
This establishment seems out of place since it's right on Tonnelle Ave (mini highway). Don't drive too fast or you may just miss it! LOL Definitely a hidden gem! Pros: -Parking lot in the back -Prices are reasonable -Drinks are good -Wait staff is accommodating Cons: -Parking lot is small and when it's at max capacity you have to park at the hotel next door -It's small enough that will it fills up you may have to wait a bit (definitely worth the wait All in all, it's a great spot and I will be visiting again! You MUST try La Fusta (American grill containing: ribs, pork chops, chicken, steak and chorizo). This option is $40 for two people, but you get to choose two sides with it. You will also be bringing some home! The avocado and shrimp salad is to die for!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Service was awesome close to the hotel where we stayed in NJ for sure next time we get back to east coast NJ we'll have a diner again, ambiance great so as the drinks

Yelp
For years I have been trying to find time to make it over to this place, especially since it is right now the road from my house. Finally I had the chance to do so along with my father and fiancé. Since the establishment is right off of Tonnelle Ave., it is a little difficult to get to with very limited parking, so I suggest getting there early. The inside is very nice with a cute Kentucky Derby theme vibe to it. Beverage wise, my fiancé and I had the red Sangria and it is unfortunate to report that there is really nothing special about it besides it being very bland. All of us decided to have some appetizers to start off. The calamari I thought was really good along with the shrimp in a garlic sauce. We also ordered the mozzarella in carrozza which was horrible. The cheese tasted very old almost like it's been sitting out for awhile and just reheated. We each ordered something different for dinner. They wound up messing up my order, which I get that totally happens and it's fine- however the food between each of our meals had one thing in common. They were all tasted pretty salty- the meat, the sauces the spinach, everything. The mash potatoes were also very runny (it was leaking through my fork). I mean I have personally have had worse meals for sure but this place overall was just very disappointing. The prices listed on the menu do not even match the quality of the food.
google avatar

Yelp
Decided to stop for lunch at this Argentine style grill. We were thinking about ordering the American Grill but after going through their extensive menu decided on something else. We started with the provoleta with prosciutto and oregano as an appetizer along with a stuffed tomato. The tomato is stuffed with white rice and tuna in a Mayo mixture that keeps everything compact when slicing. Both apps were tasty. As for the entrees we decided on similar meals except for the main ingredient. My wife had the chicken in a blue cheese sauce, while I settled on the fillet of sole with the same sauce. Both entrees were delicious. The sauce was creamy and the blue cheese did not overpower the fish and shrimp. This restaurant has been open since 2004 but has recently changed ownership. La Fusta in Spanish means "the wip" or in a better term a riding crop used by jockeys. The inside of the restaurant is adorned with lots of pictures and figures of horse racing. I wouldn't hesitate on visiting again next time we travel to North Bergen.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years (after going to the Elmhurst location for decades). I come here every year for my birthday and absolutely love the ambience and the food. This is a little slice of Argentina in Jersey City. As everyone knows, Argentines make the best meat, and eating at La Fusta offers proof of this fact. The pastas are also delicious. I can't speak to the salads, but my family loves the Argentine salads. Another treat is the provoleta. Yummy yummy yummy.

Jc T.

Yelp
I love the place and the service. For some reason the churrasco is not the best anymore.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great place; The staff is very attentive and the food is excellent. The meat is cooked to perfection every single time.
google avatar

Regina C.

Yelp
I've always liked it here but I'm disappointed because I was able to reserve a table online for today, January 1 and I pull into the parking lot to find the place is closed. No sign on the door and nothing indicating online that they'd be closed.

Stanley F.

Yelp
Great Argentinian vibes , always a plus of the national futbol team is playing .Food and service are top notch .

Yelp
8) Las cervesas fue lo mejor de todo porque estaban a una temperatura perfecta El conclucion yo no volveria a comer a La Fusta me parecio caro y tiene mucho que mejorar la calidad de comida 1) Attention enough 2) Good meat patties 3) The terrible matambre 4) the emptiness and the lousy barbecue 5) The price is quite expensive 6) The pancakes with dulce de leche are terrible 7) The noquis with mixed sauce excellent! 8) The cervesas were the best of all because they were at a perfect temperature The conclusion I would not eat again at La Fusta seemed expensive and has much to improve the quality of food

Yelp
They charged themselves the tip for a lousy service, the service in that place is a disaster.

Yelp
Came here last night for Mother's Day dinner and we had the best customer service ever. Carlos was so attentive and just a good vibe. The food was great!!! Definitely your money's worth. Had to take home leftovers. Quality and quantity. Will definitely be returning!!!

Yelp
I was delightfully surprised at my experiences at this wonderful restaurant! Visiting New Jersey I happened to stay at the hotel adjacent to the restaurant, and decided to try it as we were tired and hungry from a long road trip from Washington D.C. From our entry into the restaurant, we ( My sister and I) were warmly welcomed immediately and given a good seat. This might not seem like a big thing to others but to a Black woman who is regularly slighted in obvious and many subtle ways in restaurant settings, it was heartwarming to be treated with respect and dignity. We were not shuttled to an off sidetable in the corner somewhere but in a well lit area smack dab in the middle of things. Our waiter was superb! I told him that I had never had Argentinian food before and to inform me of the choices. He graciously and painstakingly did and we were able to choose one of the most sumptious meals I have ever had! The meat was cooked to perfection and the variety of meat was mindblowing. The waiter was very attentive and made us feel special, and we were not rushed. Lastly, the cost was so reasonable that I could'nt believe the bill when it came given the amount of well cut meats we had on our plate. It was great fare! I absolutely recommend this restaurant and will certainly go back when I am again in New Jersey. Jaye A. Lowe

Yelp
I truly enjoyed the food at this restaurant, although I'm an awkward location, the food was phenomenal. This place is well known for there skirt steak (which was bomb). My mom brought my family/friends about 12 of us for my sisters birthday. The sangria was also so delicious we ordered 3 pitchers! I ordered the lemon chicken which was so tender and the taste was so on point! I loved the food, and the drinks, the service however was so/so. Long story short I would have given this restaurant 5 stars but the service was not that great. I believe they were short staffed but overall a would rate he service a 1 star. Rude waiter, almost dropped food all over us, he clearly didn't want to be working. We were a party of 12 so keep in mind the tip was included automatically. The food shined through the terrible service, I believe 3 stars was the perfect rating for this restaurant.

Yelp
My fav resturant we come here at least once a month with my family . Great Argentine classic food made to perfection , great staff & drinks. Fridays we love to hear the live jazz of Jordy too !

Yelp
My second favorite restaurant!!!! It's the best place you can go to eat meat. So well cooked and delicious it will leave you breathless wanting for more. My family and I love this place as we come here for most occasions. The staff and waiters are super attentive and very nice. I usually get the shrimp salad with avocados. SUPERB!!!! Best salad ever! Trust me go to la Fusta you will thank me.

Yelp
My wife made reservations few hours earlier. When we got there 10 minutes before time of our reservation first thing we encountered was parking lot full of cars, no space to park. After finally parking, we walked inside to find about 9 people waiting in a small entryway. Inside the restaurant all tables we taken and more people standing and waiting. The place just looked super busy as if covid wasn't a thing. I'm all for restaurants staying open in some capacity during these times but what's going on here is just ridiculous and unsafe.
google avatar

Gonzalo A.

Yelp
The place is a good spot to wine down and relax...people here are not in a hurry after your food is served. The food: is well made Sangria: be careful (gets people too happy) Ambiance: relaxing Parking: yes Personnel: be careful/just kidding - 5 stars Price: well worth it, not bad. Salad: take a look at the pic (La Fusta Salad) Chimichurri: excellent - only my dad can make it better than here.

Yelp
google avatar

Lorenzo T.

Yelp
Hands down a gem for great Argentinian food. A mix of traditional Latin grilled dishes, seafoods, and very tasty Italian style pastas and sauces. Also the sangria is extremely tasty. This is a more date and family friendly restaurant that boasts a full bar. Different from your countertop, lunch style places through JC and UC. Highly recommend all the grilled plates and appetizers. Salads are well dressed. Empanadas are crispy and fresh. The sausage is out of this world. Try it all

J I.

Yelp
Horrible Service. Spoke to a bartender to help us because the waiter was too busy ( which I get but we waited 45+ mins just to be seen) Where was the Manager? Us, the customers had to go find him so he can provide a service that was far from decent. It's not the workers fault but as a manager they hold the responsibility to manage the service, especially when multiple tables were reserved with days in advance to attend multiple people. We had to ask for menus, utensils. Unsatisfactory. Sad, especially during this time. Hope they figure it out so future customers don't have to go through this.
google avatar

Yelp
I travel the country for work and this is the best hidden gem In New Jersey. I use yelp to find decent local cuisine. But the Jersey locals have been hiding out on this place... .oscar and his crew delivered the best steak I have had in years
google avatar

Christina T.

Yelp
This place hits all the marks .. well the most important ones :. Everything cooked perfectly and service perfect.. thank you Oscar!10 and 10.. ambiance is fine.. men will love..tons of tvs and sports on.. The flavor of the delicious steaks gets us to deal with traveling on Tonnelle ave... the steak and that great Fusta salad!! So good

Yams R.

Yelp
My family and I have been clients of La Fusta at their North Bergen location for many years and we consider it to be one of the best restaurants in NJ. The food is excellent, good quality and very well prepared. I have also referred many of my friends to this place and all of them, with no exception, loved it and kept on coming back after their initial visit. Last but not least, I must say that the service is excellent and Pablo, the manager, just takes it to the next level. I highly recommended this place!!!
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
OK, this place's surroundings look totally sketch - overgrown weeds in a lot of places, the restaurant is off this pseudo-highway... WHO KNEW? Who knew this place would actually turn out surprisingly decent! Their lunch specials are awesome. You can get full here easily for under $10 for lunch. 3 empanadas (meat and/or spinach) for $6.00, grilled chicken for $7, pasta for $7... yea. In this area where I'm just expecting to pay $10+ for lunch, this place's prices for lunch pleasantly surprised me. Now onto the actual taste: bread is no good here, boo...felt the bread was a bit too dry for my taste. However, the chicken dish I ordered was NOT DRY (!) and the juicy chicken pieces were flavored marvelously!! They grilled it just right so that in certain pieces you can taste the grilled/smokey flavor, but it's not overwhelming. They serve this dish with a side of mashed potatoes (random!), which could have used a little more butter/salt. Wine was so cheap here! My friend ordered a bottle of Merlec red wine for only $15 (for three of us). I also got flan dessert, which had this awesome glob of caramel next to it (delicious!). I felt the actual flan was soaked in sugary syrup for a bit too long, so I didn't finish the dessert. Anyway, I never knew about Argentine cuisine, and I guess this won't be the last of it, if this restaurant is any indication of what Argentine cuisine is like. Bravo, La Fusta.
