I’ve Lived in France for 10+ Years—Here Are 11 Hidden Gems in Paris You Won't Find in Guidebooks

"Housed in an abandoned train station near La Villette, this donation-based venue blends jazz club and late-night party: one night might bring big names or niche acts, Tuesday jam sessions are led by Paris Conservatory students, and the cellar keeps techno, house, and electronic on rotation until sunrise, 365 days a year." - Lane Nieset Lane Nieset Lane Nieset is a travel writer from Miami who has lived in France for the past decade. La Gare - Le Gore

La Gare / Le Gore is one of those rare places that truly feels alive. Set in a converted 19th century railway station on Paris’s old Petite Ceinture, the venue keeps much of its industrial soul with exposed brick, dim lighting, and raw textures while blending it with an artistic, bohemian vibe. Early in the night, the La Gare part is warm and laid back. You can grab a drink, chill on the terrace, and enjoy live jazz surrounded by locals and musicians. The sound quality is surprisingly good for such an intimate space, and the mood is effortlessly cool with no pretense, no dress code, just good energy. Then, as midnight approaches, the lights dim and the Le Gore side comes alive downstairs. Suddenly you are in a completely different world, dark, bass heavy, and hypnotic. The vaulted cellar layout makes the acoustics intense and immersive, creating that underground energy that is rare to find even in Paris 🎵 Music and Programming This dual identity is what makes La Gare / Le Gore unique. Jazz evenings (La Gare): Every night, live jazz, funk, fusion, or hip hop infused sessions. Sometimes free or pay what you want. It feels authentic, you are watching top tier musicians play just a few meters away, often improvising and jamming. Club nights (Le Gore): After midnight, the place transforms into a techno and house club. Expect deep, raw, often experimental sets with a crowd that is passionate about sound, not selfies. The musical curation is bold and eclectic. It is the kind of place where you might discover an unknown jazz trio one night and a rising Berlin style techno DJ the next.

This place is SOOOOOOO AWESOME!!!!! My buddy and I came on a random Thursday night around 10:30pm and it was packed!! The cats were jazzing and the bartenders were so sweet! Went to the techno underground afterwards and it was pretty empty, but the band told us it’s PACKED on the weekends. If you like cool funky jazzy music and a laid back vibe where you can drink+smoke, THIS IS THE PLACE!!!!!

If you are looking for something different while in Paris, there’s this alternative jazz place, (old train station) where the program varies from day to day. We were there on tuesday night, the entrance was free. The crowd is there to actually listen to the music, not talk, talking is done outside :) not for uptight ppl! Buckle up and have some fun 🥳

I went there around 2 am on a Saturday night and the place was insane. Gives Berlin or London vibes rather than Paris so it can be tried for a change if you're into clubbing.

Such a great spot! The vibe is beautiful and the atmosphere is always lively. They bring in really good bands with a great mix of music, and the sound is spot on. The staff are friendly and make the night even better. Definitely one of the best places to enjoy live music! Must visit in Paris

A relaxed atmosphere, great music, and fairly priced drinks. The people are really cool, and I really enjoyed the live music. In the evening, there’s also a techno club downstairs, which is definitely worth checking out.

Filled up for a Jazz set which was an unusual, to my ears, experimental style. It was fitting, realizing the place is also open as a club other nights with other types of music. Tip for the music - most of the hipster crew headed for the exit as soon as the lights went on to avoid a contribution. The bartender who served us was old school Paris, attitude and all. A good spot to see some hipster Paris style fashion.
