La Gourmandine was founded in 2010 by a husband and wife who moved from France to Pittsburgh. Their menu includes lunch foods (e.g., baguette sandwiches, quiches, and soups), pastries (e.g., eclairs, tarts, and macarons), danishes (e.g., croissants, chouquettes, and madeleines), breads (e.g., baguettes and white bread), and special-order foods (e.g., cakes).
I had previously eaten baked goods from other locations of La Gourmandine, so I wanted to try baked goods from this location in Lawrenceville. The town has limited parking, so my husband and I had to park our vehicle on another street.
As soon as we entered the bakery, the employees greeted us. My husband selected one plain croissant and one gourmandise (a pastry of vanilla cream and chocolate). I chose one tarte aux fruit (shortbread with vanilla cream and fruit) and one tarte aux framboises (shortbread with almond cream and raspberries). An employee carefully packaged the baked goods and charged us a price of about $16.
At home, my husband and I ate our baked goods. My husband's croissant and gourmandise were fresh, flaky, and flavorful. My two tartes had crispy shortbread crusts and contained sweet creams and fresh fruits.
