La Grée des Landes (Cournon, Brittany) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The French entrepreneur Yves Rocher, an early pioneer in natural cosmetics, began and ended his life in the village of La Gacilly in Brittany — and today, a boutique hotel on a forested hilltop outside of town celebrates his legacy. La Grée des Landes is a stylish and seriously eco-friendly retreat — it has a green roof, solar panels, and gardens producing 100% organic ingredients for Les Jardins Sauvages, the gourmet restaurant — with a pool, yoga deck, and trails for walking and cycling. Guest rooms are calm and quiet, with organic cotton bedding and French doors opening onto private patios. A single freestanding cabin, elevated on stilts beside an old cypress, offers a treehouse-like escape. The spa features a hammam and an indoor pool bathed with natural light; the house specialty is a flower bath incorporating blooms from the fragrant fields outside." - Tablet Hotels

This a modern hotel with emphasis on relaxation, wellness and environmental care. It is also expensive , and some things feel a bit pretentious . The room was super clean but very small, and it was too warm (there is no AC but you can request a fan), and since there are no bug nettings you cannot really keep the sliding door open for long. The bathroom was also very clean but small. The restaurant serves excellent food but the service seemed a bit unfriendly when compared with restaurants in Britany in general. There was not WiFi in the room, you can request a box (that is how it was described to me by the reception desk) or get free WiFi in the common areas near the bar and restaurant.|The setting of the hotel on top of a hill and with a lot of outdoor space is great, walk through their vegetable garden, it is impressive, and you will eat their produce at the restaurant.

We are returning guests travelling 1800+km to stay a few days in the hotel, eat in the retaurant, visit la Gacilly, visit Bretagne. Is that proof enough for excellence?

Visited the premises years before and decided to stay for a night this time. The grounds are still as beautiful as before, the basic room we got was okay, with a small patio where we could sip some hot tea before dinner. A moisturizer comes with the room as a present (nice touch). Didn't bring swimsuit but decided to check out the warm indoor pool which was quite crowded. Hamman seemed small and not too special either. However, the gym is very decent.|Biggest disappointment came from dinner as I was expecting they could come up with more taste and creativity with what they grow in their beautiful gardens (which we enjoyed taking our walks in the early evening). Also, we never had our welcome drink although reception told us we could have it anytime but apparently the bar has already started serving evening drinks at a fee by the time we get there (around 6pm I think). We were told we could have it the next day, but we were already checking out so it wouldn't have served the purpose (of welcoming us :-). |For the price tag that comes with the room, I think there are many choices in this area, although they may not be as ecological. However, I also don't think ecology is the justification for charging much more.

This hotel is set on a gorgeous property. The room was terrific. The staff was exceptional. the restaurant was top notch. the pool has a breathtaking view of the valley. La Gacilly is a really cute town and there’s a nice nature walk that takes five minutes from the hotel to the village.

The setting and rooms are lovely; the beds and bathrooms are high quality; the staff is kind. The denial of wifi feels silly: better to offer it and let guests decide if they want to use it. The restaurant is not up the standards of the room -- it is fancier than it is good: eat elsewhere.

We enjoyed our stay. The spa is surprisingly limited to a hammam and two pools. It's more about the treatments here which are excellent. Surrounded by nature and within walking distance of the village. The cuisine can be overly fussy but showcases local ingredients. The restaurant staff is professional and friendly.

60th birthday visit for partner and it was very special. Loved the minimalist decor, pleasant, helpful staff; great treatments (reasonably priced) and a beautiful room. Dinner in the restaurant was very refined and good value at 42 euros but wine very expensive 30 euros+ and our bottle of white was served warm and took two requests to be chilled. Breakfast buffet has a very wide choice but again, at 18 euros is not cheap. There are often deals which make the stay cheaper and there are several good restaurants in the town.

This is our fourth visit to the annual photo exhibition in La Gacilly and each time before we've agreed that there's too much to see in one day. We searched around for a hotel and, as it was just for one night, found we could treat ourselves to something upmarket, with the chance to go for a swim and hammam. It was wonderful. We were able to split the exhibition into several visits and enjoyed time in the pool on both days. We also had an evening meal in the restaurant, which was excellent. We will be coming back next year.
