Came here last night and had the best meal of our trip so far! Handmade pasta at its finest, the service was good and really loved the musician, was the perfect romantic setting

Wonderful experience at La Grotta nei Sassi. I enjoyed an excellent lamb ragout with orecchiette; the pasta was slightly overcooked, possibly due to oven finishing. Starter was a delicious pumpkin soufflé with a refined cheese sauce. Flavors were delicate and the textures perfect. Beautiful setting and attentive service.

Everything was great. In the evening the restaurant opened around 7pm, which for Matera is very good. We were looking for a place to eat early .. it's not easy to find such places. We chose the restaurant also for the view. The menu we already knew from our noon stroll around the area. Food was very good, very tasty. Good choice. I'll come back one day.

This place was perfect! If you want a romantic spot… this is it! The staff is kind and receptive. The food was very flavorful and fun to order from. The menu is in Italian and English. Go for anything that sounds interesting! You won’t be disappointed! The views from the patio set a beautiful background to a beautiful meal… don’t miss!

We had a lovely dinner here on our first night in Matera. Our host suggested this place and since it was very late (around 10pm) we went without checking reviews / other locations etc. We were positively surprised! The restaurant has a lovely view and food is very good quality. We had two starters, two main, two desserts and 4 drinks. Total came to about 120€ which we thought was super fair! Only thing I would mention - they could improve service. We had to ask for the wine several times (you can’t bring me the drink 10min after the food), but in general it was a pleasant experience.

A hidden spot in Matera, with a great piazza with outdoor tables, perfect for a dinner at sunset. The food was good, the atmosphere is magical with priveleged view of the historic center. The only downside was that the waiters were a little impatient with our indecisiveness to order, but nevertheless, worth the visit.

We really loved this restaurant and I felt in love with the pasta with lamb, Cinnamon, sugar… In addition, the location was also super romantic and there was live music! I highly recommend this spot WAUW!

Tried the place due to good ratings and overall it was a disappointment. The service was poor, acting as if it was their first day at work. Had to wait in order to get any of the waiters to approach us, none of the waiters would fill up our wine glasses even while serving the main course. The plate of meats and cheeses was amazing and that’s where our nice experience ends. My main dish was fully burnt. Would not recommend

Yelp
we made 7:30 PM reservations for this restaurant the same time they open and we were among the first six or so people seated. many people, including us, ordered quickly yet we began to notice that everyone else was being served and enjoying their meal while ours was not being served; apparently there was a quality control problem with the pasta, but nobody told us. I was angry with the manager yet met with a cold shoulder saying they did the best they could considering they seated many people all at once

Yelp
Not bad but not great , non male ma non eccezionale : they seated me in a high traffic area by the singer so i was uncomfortable from the get go .. i requested another table, but, no way when you're a solo diner .. food was below average for Matera which has some very good ristoranti .. service was good enough.. but the view of the Sassi was excellent .. ma la vista dei Sassi e stato eccellente !

Yelp
We had very good service on this big holiday for Italy . I ordered the grandmothers pasta orecchiette with red sauce and lamb It was fantastic! My husband had the orecchiette with rapini anchovies and bread crumbs he's loved it . My frond had the spaghetti with anchovies. We were all satisfied and happy . Again the service was great . English menus and English speaking server ! The ambiance was beautiful in caves of course . Twinkle lights on dried grape vines . Lovely

Yelp
Amazing! We would go out of our way to come here again! Stopped thru Matera on a driving day and randomly saw this place online. We took the LONG way there when it's really right off the main square. But. They extra steps helped burn off some of the food LOL. The staff was very friendly and the food. Omg the food! We had the cod cabbage rolls, pepper/sausage pasta and the grandmothers orrichete. One of our best meals in Italy! And last but not least...even the music was a great vibe. So much so that we asked what playlist it was. GO...just GO!

Yelp
This place has some rather impressive pastas, but that's the extent of my compliments. Service bordered on non-existent; they drop off water and wine, but you pour it. They serve food with no plates or silverware on the table. Not excusable at their price point. Some other problems: 5 Euros for a "salad;" a small bowl of iceberg lettuce, alone, no dressing. Unbelievable. We ordered octopus but what was served was entirely different than the menu description. Wasn't bad, but no advance warning. Upon requesting the check, they said you pay up front, which I did. As we are leaving, they rudely stop me and say, "Oh we forgot to charge you for a few things, so you need to pay $25 Euros more." Insult added to injury at this point. One word sums up my experience: unimpressed.
