La Hasienda Hotel & Restaurant

A little unusual gem right next to Kupang airport. The design and architecture is striking, as the owner purposely decided to create a mosaic of broken floor tiles to cover the roof and the walls. The same design concept runs inside the rooms where the washbasin is surrounded with a similar mosaic. The location of the hotel is wonderful if you have to catch an early flight the next day. The staff is helpful and pleasant. The service is alright, better than most places in Indonesia. I booked there on a friend's recommendation who's been staying there every time she goes to Kupang since 2014. She tells me that the hotel has seen better days, that for instance the bar upstairs was happening banget back in the day. Of course COVID must have left a strong gash in the place 😔! I agree that, although well maintained, the property shows some ageing. The A/C was very noisy in my room, the water pressure inexistant and the WiFi best avoided. But here is my conclusion: this property is still WAY BETTER than wannabe five-star hotels. Its quirks give it character and you should consider it.

Mike and his staff take great care of you during your stay. Plenty of alcohol options in the bar upstairs with pool table. A nice view of the city. Close to the airport and affordable transfers to the ferry terminal. The beef fried rice is epic. Simple air-conditioned rooms. All in all it's a unique stay with a lot of man hours going into the final product.

I stayed here overnight before flying to Alor. Really responsive service, in particular airport pick-up and drop-off. Rooftop restaurant was great, excellent Nasi Campur. Suggest better lighting and AC in the rooms.

Outstanding food and service. Stay here on your way to and from Rote and you won't regret it. We stayed in the family suite and it was worth every cent. So much character in every aspect of the building ang great views from the rooftop restaurant. Great prices for exceptional food with an extensive menu. We will be back!

I was not impressed with this hotel overall. The room was semi- clean. Not terrible.. but the bath mat was very gross, one of the light bulbs was flickering because it needed changing, the shower did not drain properly, and the toilet seat was broken so it fell on you when sitting on the toilet. There were also a number of dead cockroaches around the halls. Additionally I rented a scooter through te hotel that didn't work properly. Also would not recommend the restaurant. More than anything though, I did not appreciate the way the owner treated or talked about the staff. He seems to be looking down on them and did not speak about them kindly when I told him a few things needed fixing in my room. Maybe I am wrong.. but to me the vibe was not good. To name a few positives: clean sheets and towels, free airport shuttle, kind staff, nice view from the roof when you eat breakfast.

Great place to stay night or few in Kupang. Restaurant have great view over Kupang. Food is great!

Super location close w airport and with cute bars. Got nice food and drinks while waiting for the next trip. I really like the rooftop w kupang view and ocean and all. Thank you

Rooms were clean and adequate and the place is conveniently located near the airport. I would not stay there again however due to the conditions the place’s pet dogs are kept in. See @LisaYoung’s very accurate description and photos below. I understand that dog’s in general are treated poorly in Indonesia but if this is the best care that can be provided I’d suggest not having pet dogs.
