An absolutely incredible French restaurant — authentic, beautifully prepared dishes at truly decent prices. Everything feels simple, honest, and done with care, from the seasoning to the presentation. The service is impeccable; warm, attentive, and professional without ever being intrusive. It’s a rather small space, which makes it cozy but also means it can be a bit tricky to get a booking (and could use slightly better ventilation on busy nights). Still, it’s completely worth the effort. A real gem of a place, one of those rare spots that should definitely be on your list if you love genuine French cuisine.

WORTH THE HYPE This place rocked my world on quality and value. 4 course and 2 glasses of wine for $71 euro. Make a reservation- you need it. Snails, French onion soup, beef stew and cheesecake. Service was excellent - regret not asking his name. Best French onion soup I have had.

Reservations are strongly encouraged. We arrived on a weekday afternoon and were lucky to snag the last available table. The group after us had to wait over 30 minutes for the next one. I ordered the onion soup and the restaurant’s specialty, coq au vin. It was my first time trying coq au vin, so with no reference point, I can only share my impression of it. It had a rich, savory flavor with deep notes of wine. The braised chicken was tender and practically fell apart. My friend ordered the salmon, which was also very delicious.

Exceptional stop during a Paris layover. Classic French onion soup was rich and deeply flavorful, perfectly gratinéed. Finished with a thick, velvety chocolat chaud and a beautiful raspberry tart... both outstanding. Cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and ideal location near Notre-Dame. Absolutely worth stepping out of the airport for.

I did my first Paris solo trip in 2023 and fell in love with the food here - I’ve been back for the third time now for my birthday treat and it’s as good as the first time. I got the onion soup (it was deliciously cheesy) and the beef stew (like a warm hug in a cold day) and was satisfied by the end of my meal. Thank you for the memorable birthday meal. The waiter’s dessert recommendation (raspberry tart) was spot on!

You must make a reservation! We had the delicious french onion soup, the beef stew and the duck tajine. The mains are deliciously cooked and was a very memorable meal. Portions are huge and is somewhat difficult for one to finish so it makes sense to come and share them as a group. The duck tajine is very flavourful, reminds me of a spin off of a butter chicken in its own way as it’s sweet and savoury! We finished off the meal with coffees and the lemon meringue tarte which was also delicious. Would highly recommend the visit as it’s also in a very cute alleyway to see stores and restaurants!

La Jacobine gave us the best meal we have ever had in Paris. We booked three months ago or so we thought we did, but they couldn’t find our booking. Probably best to book on their website. Nevertheless, they managed to squeeze us in after a short wait. We were in luck as ten minutes later people were queueing outside the door. My wife had the lamb shank with prunes and figs and I chose the slow cooked Beef Casseroie. Both meals were cooked individually in their own cast iron pots. Consequently, they came out quickly and were lovely and hot. The meat was so tender and there were plenty of vegetables to add to the flavour. I can highly recommend this little gem. So much character and the staff were super friendly. Be sure to try their wonderful desserts as well. The wine list, while not extensive was still perfect.

La Jacobine in Paris is such a wonderful spot! The food was absolutely amazing, full of rich flavors and perfectly cooked. The French onion soup was just superb—warm, cheesy, and so comforting, easily the best I’ve had in Paris! The waiter was incredibly professional and kind, taking great care of every detail. The cozy atmosphere makes you feel right at home. A truly lovely place for a delicious meal and great service. Totally recommend it!

Of all the meals I had in Paris, La Jacobine was my absolute favorite. Everything here was incredible - if you're nervous but curious about Escargot - this would be the place to get it. The foie gras mill fuelle was heavenly. Both duck plates were incredible, we couldn't pick a favorite. Their cheesecake was also divine. They are a very popular place so I recommend going for lunch (like we did) or trying to make a reservation for dinner. We tried to come a second time for dinner on a whim, arrived around 7:30, and they didn't have anything open until 9. If we didn't have a kiddo with us we gladly would have waited - they are worth it.

Chill vibes, entertaining art on the wall, and solid eats. Onion soup was 5/5. Ask for extra bread for dunking. Goat cheese salad was original, fresh, and zingy. The raspberry macaron was underwhelming, and tasted stale. I'd return for the soup and salad tho.

Service was amazing and friendly! Food was great as well. Various vegetarian options are available. This was my partner's first time trying escargot and it was prepared well. The French onion soup and Truffle Ravioli was superb. The desert dishes had an amazing presentation, which was greatly appreciated. The interior was small and lively.

One of my favorite Bistros in Paris!!! If you're looking for a classic Parisian meal, look no further! They do all the french favorites perfectly!! And the staff, Alex & Antwon were absolutely amazing!! They were very warm and welcoming!

I'll start off simple it's a 10/10 it lives up to the hype. This was the best meal I had in Paris hands down. The food taste so fresh, not overly salty, and the portions are perfect. We had the duck gizzard salad and I'm not usually a huge fan of gizzard, but this was just amazing the pairing of the salty duck with the acidic tomato combined for the perfect salad I didn't know I needed. The duck with date sauce was something I've never thought of trying, but again to my surprise it was delicious. If you don't necessarily like mixing sweet with savory this dish isn't for you I however really enjoyed this. The pork cullet was my favorite dish it was tender and flavor packed and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. It was salty with a slight tanginess. I would 100 percent recommend this place to anyone visiting Paris unless you don't have a reservation and are in a rush we came with no reservation and it was an hour and a half wait which is valid. This was completely our fault make those reservations and try this restaurant you won't regret it!!!!

I have been eying out La Jacobine to have Coq au vin. It's one of the dishes I wanted to make sure to try while in Paris. Knowing they open at 7pm. I left early so I could arrive around opening to dine early. The Metro had different plans for me. One leg of the Metro confused me. It confused me earlier in the day but I figured it wouldn't be that bad this time. Oh...it was and when I got to La Jacoline, I was told the wait time was till 10pm. Super disappointed but I have no back up plans and other good restaurants would be busy as well so I decided to wait it out. While waiting, I noticed they have 4 chairs right outside for customers to sit on. Fortunately I got one early and didn't have to pop the Asian squat. The restaurant is bright and cozy with a family atmosphere. I didn't want to be rude so I didn't ask if I could buy something to drink while I wait. My boredom got the better of me so I asked. They said it's fine! Yay! Something to do while waiting. So many people walked by the restaurant while waiting. I got to talk to some diners waiting to help kill some time which was nice. Alex was amazing because he squeezed me in and I got in around 9pm vs the original 10pm I was quoted. He provided exceptional customer service all night. When I got in, I knew my order. I ordered their Mille-Feuille De Foie Gras as an Entrees and the Coq Au Vin as my Plats. My drink was a bottle of bubbles. It was a nice paced meal to enjoy the food and conversation. Since I was alone, I made friends with the couple next to me. Small world, the female was from HI and also attended Kalani High. The food was amazing! Totally worth the wait and everything. I do highly recommend people to make reservations though.

Some of the best food I had in Paris! We came here for lunch on a weekday without a reservation and waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2. Be forewarned that this place is popular, and there's typically a wait! Food: - French Onion Soup: most people got this as a starter, and it did not disappoint! Salty rich broth with ooey gooey cheese on top, which really warmed up the soul from the rainy day outside! - Beef stew (Estouffade de Boeuf): Perfectly braised with soft tender beef in a delicious sauce! It comes with potatoes and vegetables. Highly recommend! Service/Atmosphere: It's down a side alley with other shops and restaurants. The restaurant is small, so expect to be in close quarters with other patrons. The bathroom is downstairs, and you have to go down this scary narrow spiral staircase. Service was friendly and nice though! Overall: Would definitely come back on my next trip to Paris!

Almost everyone we know said we had to visit La Jacobine while we were in Paris. So the morning when we were done with Musée d'Orsay and it was still early for lunch, we decided to walk over to the restaurant and see if we could get in without a reservation. Probably due to it being a weekday in October, there were only 2 small parties ahead of us in the line when we arrive around 1145 before they open at noon. We didn't have any problem getting in but the small restaurant filled up very quickly. I ordered the foie gras and duck confit. The foie gras was very good but I had the best duck confit I had ever had. The skin was crisp and the meat was tender. Every bite ignited all my taste buds even though they were partially numbed from the absinthe I had had as an aperitif. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful as well. He spoke Spanish to a visiting couple seated next to us. Because of that, "gracias" slipped out from me a few times inadvertently when I meant to say "merci". Lunch was so good that we didn't want to go out for dinner to cancel out lunch. We got a baguettes and more butter on the way back to our apartment at dinner time.

This is in a super cute area; the restaurant is in a covered alley way with little shops and many other cute restaurants with patio seating. Service was excellent, and the waiter was very kind to non-French speaking patrons. We came in around 3:30 without a reservation and got seated within 5-10 min. I will start this review by saying I am not an expert on French food but based on the reviews we were excited to try escargot (for the first time!), coq au vin, and duck confit. All were excellent. I would say the escargot had the texture of mushrooms and was nicely flavored in a butter sauce and herbs and was pretty good. The waiter was kind enough to show us how to use the snail tongs and little fork! We also got the French onion soup was flavorful and I would certainly get it again. The duck confit which I've also never had before reminded me of Chinese duck but with different spices. It was cooked well and was great. The coq au vin was also good, very rich and tasted strongly of red wine, which is probably exactly what it's supposed to taste like, but it was just not my personal favorite. We finished off the lunch with a pot of tea, tarte tartin (a wonderful apple dessert) that melted in your mouth and served with a tart cream. Overall it was a great experience. We spent almost two hours here and loved the service, food, and atmosphere.

Service is super friendly. This place is very popular with tourists. Food was delicious, especially the French Onion Soup (which was a very generous portion!) and the Raspberry Macaron. We were stuffed, but the dessert was so light and the perfect way to finish the meal.

If you can get a reservation this is a must visit.Best onion soup in paris. So much flavor in all their dishes it's Michelin level with out the price. Had the lamb shank snails, onion soup,and chicken everything was amazing and the staff is so friendly.

Lovely restaurant with meat forward / decadent saucy plates. From my experience eating French food thus far this place has large servings and more comforting styles food. I love the plats - most notably the wine beef stew and duck tajine with almonds and sweet creamy sauce. The lamb shank and duck fillets were also great. For the entrées, the foie gras and goat cheese salad were très bien! Dessert - tiramisu was alright since it was late night when we ordered and they made it just earlier so the cake have not soaked the coffee and rum. Cheesecake was good though. La Jacobine is in a small alleyway with a lot of other restaurants and bars and got lively in the evening. We had a reservation but had to wait another 30 mins to get in. The woman who served us was cheerful and attentive, which is rare to come by in Paris.

Food and service were amazing. I went three times during my three weeks stay in Paris and I can't wait to go back again. I thought the price was reasonable for the quality of the food .

Excellent restaurant in the heart of Sainte Germain. Food was nicely prepared and tasty.

I stopped by at 10am and saw them getting ready for service at 12. I went to go grab my chocolate gifts and some starbucks(left the starbies at monoprix, sad lol). Anyways, I came back at 11:30, was first in line for opening, by the time they opened, the line was long enough to fill the restaurant. The food genuinely was good. Worth a 30 minute wait probably. But there are other restraints serving similar food next door to the right and front of the restaurant if you can't wait. If you're in the area, you can stop by and make a reservation for the next day or later in the day. Or call by phone (photo of their info card attached). It's pretty small inside, but super cozy and warm. Amazing server. Dude even remembered my name (Kim) lol. And he told me to order dessert and the chocolate after the meal, I'm a dessert first type of girl because I love sugar, but good call, because after the French onion soup, the appetizer/starter, I was already feeling full. After the salmon, I was ready to take free my belly from my pants because it was a great portion! Perfect size portion for my future man though, prob could even finish my left overs. Didn't stop me from getting chocolat viennois. Delicious by the way. The chocolate was so rich and delicious. Tl;dr - Food is good, service is amazing. Also I love baguette and bread, and they offer unlimited baguette on the house.

I enjoyed my experience at La Jacobine. I arrived around 4:30pm and there was still a bit of a wait to get inside. I had the Salmon en Papillote as my main dish - this was a flavorful dish of salmon cooked with herbs in a cream sauce; they used a variety of herbs, with tarragon being the most noticeable. It was earthy and simple and good. For dessert, I chose their hot chocolate, which is regarded as being some of the best in Paris...wow, it was amazing. The hot chocolate was thick, creamy and decadent. It was very similar to Angelina hot chocolate. This was a perfect way to end the meal. The customer service was friendly and attentive. If you are in the area, La Jacobine is a good choice for traditional French food. Make sure to get the hot chocolate before you leave!

I read somewhere that the French onion soup here was the best in the city. I've never liked French onion soup but after trying it I've converted and have to say La Jacobine knows how to make a tasty broth. Other dishes like the duck confit, and beef stew were amazing - 10/10. Foie gras was fine, they pair it with a sweet jam and apples in a salad. Place is pretty petite and you can expect to wait about 30 minutes during non-peak times. Overall, really great value and good eats amongst the many options in Paris.

Jacobine continues to impress me. Reservations are a must if you want to get in on the first seating at dinner. Lunch is also an option. Reservations online don't work yet (coming later this year) and trying to call can be a challenge because they only answer the phone twice a day for a 1/2 hour at a time. I had 2 different friends call who were in Paris and still couldn't get me a reservation. So our first night into Paris, we stopped by. As expected, booked for the night, so we chose another time for a lunch appointment and then the Thursday night before leaving. Since 2018, it's still a great find! We had lunch on Tue and dinner on Thu. Relatively, we ate the same things twice. My wife had duck confit, foie gras, and escargot. I choose the pork mignon for lunch and shared the beef stew with one of the girls in round 2. Among the entrees (what French consider appetizers), we discovered a new one for ourselves, the salmon fume. It was delish. Something else that was surprising was that both our girls loved it. The French fare was not doing it for them, but when we went to Jacobine, we left saying it was the best meal of the trip fo them. When it was time for dessert the 2nd night we were only going to order the raspberry macaron. I told our server that we were going to get the chantilly cream over hot chocolate. However, I learned that they have the same thing and he said that they were quite known for their's as well. Nothing was a disappointment!!!!! We continue to enjoy Jacobine and look forward to another chance there.

Amazing service and delish food. Can back two times while in Paris. It was that good even tho most consider this a tourist trap it is a great spot with great food and impeccable service. My favorite French onion soup of the three days and the kindest ppl you will ever meet. Highly recommend leaving room for the hot chocolate. The dessert did not look impressive to me but I am also not a fan of profiteroles so please don't come for me! Duck confit, I still dream about it! Yum yum yum!

Wow! What a phenomenal meal we had here. The restaurant is quite small, so without a reservation we waited nearly an hour before being seated. We almost tried one of everything. My favorite dish was the confit de canard. I didn't care much for the side of veggies but that's ok. It's the one thing they could repeat for each plate. Everything else was exquisite. Three of us did the formules. Entrees - onion soup (flavorful and balanced), ravioli (super rich and creamy), escargots Plats - duck confit, lamb shank, and pork tenderloin medallions Desserts - Mille-feuille, chocolate cake, and raspberry pistachio tarte

Absolutely fantastic service by a brand new employee who handled the small space with grace, humor and delight. Overall Paris dining during the week was disappointing. Overpriced and mediocre. This establishment was priced well and the food was well prepared. My only comment is that both the duck breast and the beef stew were a little tough. Not sure why but the flavors are phenomenal in the beef stew. It's rich with cardamon and spice but delicate in nature. The wine list is high quality and inexpensive. It was the only French meal where it didn't feel like they just were just trying to churn and burn. Highly recommend this restaurant and it was evident that everyone else thinks the same. There's almost always a line no matter the time of day! Definitely worth a stop if in the hood.

This is our special occasion place for brunch. The onion soup is the best I've had and the vegetarian salad includes a hearty slice of a vegetable quiche. The hot chocolate is epic and all the desserts are fabulous. We love the servers, both so professional and friendly. The rooms have beautiful, historical paintings on the walls and you will hear a lot English spoken by mostly friendly tourists.

Is this place filled with tourists? Yes. Is this place good? Also yes. Came here for lunch, and I got the filet de mignon de porc for my main and the profiteroles for my dessert. The pork was tender, and the mustard sauce was delicious. The profiteroles had a nice firm choux pastry and decadent cream, and it was a nice way to end the meal. The service is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy (helped by the fact that the tables are quite close together).

Best meal I had in France ! We had just stepped off the plane, exhausted and in need a hearty warm meal. We found ourselves here. After months of research (YouTube videos), I had seen the great reviews of this place. I got to experience it first hand, so now I can recommend this place! Also, the customer service here once seated was really good. If I ever find myself in France , I will be back !

Got turned away because they were too crowded and we didn't speak French. There were lots of tables empty. Why would they not take 2 more customers. We didn't understand and were insulted.

Hard to get a Ressie, but we waited in line and it was less than 30 minutes, BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT! The escargot was delicious and we almost ordered a second round of 6! The foie gras was delectable and super tasty. The Beef Stew and Coq Au Vin were both recommended and flavor packed and delicious! The french onion soup was solid too. One of the best restaurant I've tried in Paris. It's not pretentious which I like. It's located in a small alley in St. Germain. You aren't able to call in or book online to make reservations. So I stopped by during lunch and only had to wait 20 minutes for a table for 2. Must order: 1. Onion soup - the gooey cheese on top was heaven. Soup was not too salty. I'm a fan of French onion soup and this was the best one I had. 2. Berry tart - the custard was light and fluffy. I'm not a tart person but this was the best one I had. Nice service. Will be back when I'm back in Paris. Bon appetite!

Best French Bistro in Paris! Hidden gem that I seek out every time I'm in Paris; last time I wasn't able to get in, but the third time was definitely the charm

As a Paris first timer I highly recommend this restaurant. It's small so the tables are quite close together. But the food was really good and I appreciated the waiter taking the time to teach me the proper way to eat escargot. Anywhere else and I know that probably wouldn't have happened so I was glad to have ordered them here. Only thing to note is it's a very narrow staircase leading to the bathroom downstairs (just thinking of those less sure footed!)

The best French onion soup since arriving in Paris! Small restaurant through a passage, with quite a few excellent restaurants even famous ones. Goat cheese salad was excellent and so was the lamb shank. Service was excellent.

We loved this place while visiting Paris. We had to wait about 30 min but the host was very friendly and welcoming! Food was so good and really enjoyed the atmosphere! We each had a bowl of SOUPE À L'OIGNON gratinée maison (Homemade onion soup) and shared the CUISSE DE CANARD DU SUD-OUEST connite ( duck leg confit) Food was delicious and service was wonderful!

La Jacobine offers one of the best experiences in dining on French classics! The welcome is warm. The food very good. The portion sizes are large for a small person like me. The ambiance is historic being in a passage just off Rue André des Arts in the 6éme arrondisement. I ordered one of the Formule: Entrée, Plat et Dessert. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! I chose classics: soupe l'oignon (onion soup), beef stew and profiteroles to conclude the meal. The crock of soup was steaming hot when it arrived. It had a deep beefy taste with oozy cheese and a slice of bread soaked in the broth. A bit too salty for my taste. The beef stew was delicious with small potatoes that were cooked perfectly and baby assorted vegetables. The beef chunks were cooked in a lovely sauce with olives. Most chunks were tender. I could and probably should have stopped there! But when in Paris (!), I don't often push the boat out on a big meal. This was my one! The profiteroles portion had an abundance of cream, custard and whipped cream. There were the two pastry parts surrounding the custard cream center. Then chocolate sauce poured atop. Wow. Time to either take a nap or walk it off! I did make a reservation by stopping by the restaurant the day before and putting my name down. I was #1 in the door for lunch. Don't try calling to reserve; stop by & get your name down or get wait listed. I dined on All Saints Day and it seemed many patrons were walk-ins - lucky. This popular restaurant was featured on a Paris Travel Channel and has had loads of exposure. For the cost, it's a steal. (Psst: it was just shy of €38 for 3-courses). Highly recommend.

Absolutely the best dinner I had in Paris! It was delicious, authentic French cuisine. I've never had the royal treatment like I did here. The staff was so amazing they greeted us with champagne, then a couple of bottles of Chablis, Antione was our waiter for our first night there and Alex was for the second time there , yes we went back for more. The Ambiance was romantic, dinner casual attire, the food was exquisite, makes you wish your meal wouldn't end because every bite melted in your mouth, absolute foodgasm! The whole dinner was an experience, they will make you feel special for sure. This is perfect for a date night , anniversary, and just because. I want to thank the staff for making this dinner so special to us. Le Jacobine you have a place in my heart.

Well, I have been here years before. It was such a great experience and the food was amazing, I've been wanting to come back. The one time that I actually made a point to come back, we came by 15 mins before opening. There was a couple that walked in right before us without reservation and they were told to wait when they open. When we asked for a table after the couple did, the guy did not even acknowledge us and we were told to come back in 2 hours because they were fully booked until then. I don't know what happened to this restaurant because when I came here years ago, they were a very unassuming and a homey place you just want to linger in. Now they've become a place I never want to be associated with - snooty and pretentious. Plenty of restaurants around were happy to have us. Very disappointing and a stain to a great memory I had years ago.

We absolutely love La Jacobine! Always a charming environment and the most delicious food. My husband and I visit Paris every year and always make reservations so we can visit at least twice during our stay. Alex and his team are the most the most lovely people. They always remember us and I'm not sure how because they are always busy. But he always takes time to welcome us and we are flattered every time. Thanks La Jacobine for a consistently wonderful experience!

To get a reservation for a Thursday evening we had to make it in person a week earlier! We arrived early and asked for a corner table by the window and they graciously complied. The servers here were warm and friendly from the start. On the whole, the meal was memorable. The onion soup and escargots were both beautifully presented but not particularly impressive. Nevertheless, the Magret de Canard in a mushroom sauce had excellent tender, rosy, duck filets . The Estouffade de boeuf( wine beef stew) was truly exceptional. The meat melted in my mouth with complex flavors in the sauce accompanied by beautiful potatoes and carrots. It was unforgettable. Finally the profiteroles were creamy, light and just sweet enough. There was a warm and friendly vibe here which added to a memorable experience.

We got seated right away when we came back at around 7pm. For the two of us, we each got an entrée and a plate. Homemade onion soup Extra crispy cheese on top and a hearty onion soup. Foie gras Melt in your mouth foie gras and the fig jam complimented very well. This was very refreshing with the salad. Duck fillets This was the best dish I had during my time in Paris. Highly recommend this dish!! The duck fillets were super tender and juicy. The mushroom sauce was delicious and went well with bread. Coq au vin The wine flavor was a bit too overpowering for my taste but if you like wine flavored dishes, you will like this. This place felt very homey and the waiters were very attentive. The menu was affordable and the food was delicious. It's a great place if you are looking for French cuisine!

I came here twice when I was in town. Servers were very friendly, and they were very kind that they spoke to me in English. They were also very patient by explaining different dishes to me. I ordered onion soup, smoke salmon entree, lamb shank, wine beef, cheesecake, strawberry crumble, and hot chocolate. They made the best onion soup that the broth was very rich in flavors! I love the lamb shank better than the wine beef, but both of them are actually very tasty and tender. Hot chocolate is a must try because it is very rich, but yet not too sweet. When I was eating my main course, I was already thinking about when I should come back. I will come back for sure!

I arrived at 5pm on a weekday. The place was empty except for a couple. I proceeded to say Bonjour, and the welcome was quite cold. The host looked me up and down, and stated they were too busy, and let me reiterate the place was EMPTY. They asked if I had a reservation, but I explained that I could not find their website. They stated I needed to call. THey refused me service. I returned to my hotel defeated. The proprietor called the restaurant but alas NO one picked up.

The French onion soup... wow. Me and my boyfriend talk about this place all the time. We did wait 30 minutes but so worth it. Such a cute little restaurant, service was amazing. Everyone was so kind. If you're in the area and don't mind waiting - this is the best French onion soup I've had/ ever will have!

We had a great time at this cozy restaurant! The most impressive was that our attentive server remembered the names of everyone's he's seated! We didn't have a reservation so we waited outside for 40 minutes, staring at the guests eating, as if that could guilt them to finish faster. Didn't happen. Once seated (shoulder to shoulder to the next table), we ordered the 3 course meal. The fois grais app was melt-in-your-mouth magnificent. Hubby liked his onion soup but preferred the one he had at Petit Vendome. The mustard pork loin was so tender and prefe tly done, unfortunately the coq au vin was oso over cooked it was deconstructed. We also had a delicious profiterole for dessert, and paid under 80 Euros for a 2 course meal plus cocktails!
