"La Jolla Shores Adjacent to the San Diego –La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve, La Jolla Shores is popular for a variety of water sports—both above and below the surface. Gentle waves, particularly in summer, make this area a great place for beginner surfers and stand-up paddleboarders. Visitors can also kayak to the La Jolla sea caves to spot wildlife, or learn to scuba dive in the pristine waters. Birch Aquarium even offers snorkeling tours from July through September so brave souls can swim among the leopard sharks that congregate at one end of the beach."

We had an absolute blast at La Jolla Shore Park! The scenery is stunning, and getting to see sea lions and seals up close was unforgettable. They were lounging on the rocks, swimming around, and put on quite the show — such an amazing experience, especially for the kids. The park was clean, easy to walk around, and perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or just soaking in the ocean views. Definitely a must-visit spot if you’re in the area. Can’t wait to come back!

The hardest part was getting there, tourists at our finest lol. The parking lot to beachfront is short and easy, can be a little bit of wait or circling for a spot. Came to stay all day. Showers and restrooms, lifeguards. It got crowded but not overly. Sea loins up the coast not far from beach, neat to see them. Beach was clean, people were kind. Lifeguards did a great job. Beautiful day.

Beautiful public beach, except the furthest hotel sent out a security guard and told us that this area of the BEACH IS PRIVATE, SO WHY DON'T THEY HAVE A SIGN AND PERMIT FROM THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO???? WE WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES KICKED OUT!!! After walking from the pier to the EXCLUSIVE HOTEL WITH THEIR OWN PRIVATE BEACH, THIS HOTEL NEEDS TO BE ON A PRIVATE ISLAND, SO THEY CAN HAVE THEIR PRIVATE BEACH!!!

Stunning beach area with some concerns about safety and maintenance We spent our final 2 days of our 1-year anniversary vacation at La Jolla Surfers Beach (12/30-12/31/25), and the natural beauty here is absolutely stunning! The beach, mountains, rocks, and water are gorgeous. It’s mostly a clean area with lots of surfers, and there are bathrooms and showers available. We had an amazing time and spent a lot of hours here over both days. On the second day it poured rain, so we walked the beach during breaks in the weather and sat in our car watching the waves and surfers when it was raining. However, there are some concerns that detract from this beautiful area: Dog policy not enforced: There are signs everywhere stating “No pets or dogs on the beach,” but there were dogs everywhere. If it’s the rule, it should be enforced. Homeless encampments: There were a lot of camper vans and vehicles with people clearly living out of them. A couple looked like they’d been posted up for a while with surfboards and yard ornaments left around their sleeping spots on the ground. I understand people fall on hard times, but public parks and beaches are meant for everyone to come and go—not for free permanent housing. Safety concerns at bathrooms: Over the 2 days we were there, we observed 2-3 men who appeared to be drinking heavily and essentially “guarding” the bathroom/shower area with cups in hand. Over time, their condition visibly deteriorated—from standing and being quiet to barely being able to walk and trying to talk to everyone. One stayed in his truck most of the time drinking, only getting out for bathroom breaks or refills. While these individuals weren’t directly bothering anyone, their presence made the bathroom area feel unsafe and uncomfortable. This is a beautiful beach that deserves better maintenance and enforcement of basic rules. The area itself is worth visiting for its natural beauty, but the city needs to address these issues to keep it safe and welcoming for families and tourists.

Beautiful beach with facilities to wash and clean after swimming, snorkeling, or surfing. Finding a parking space could be difficult after 9 AM and on weekends.

Good evening friend travelers. Well once again I am on my family trip to San Diego brought us here to La Jolla Shores at one point. Like I've stated before I believe La Jolla shores, La Jolla cove, Ellen Browning Park, expand maybe 5 to 6 miles long. With plenty of clothing stores, restaurants, souvenir shops, and entertainment. This nice little area is just amazing. Would beaches where you can go snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, or just taking a nice walk, hike, or even bicycle ride Play This Is The Place to do it. We came down to La Jolla Shores to try to see the waters illuminate at night if you have never seen that when the water or waves hit the shore it lights up a fluorescent blue, due to the algae. Which is amazing to see. Or you can even just sit on the beach and light a campfire and just relax, listening to the ocean, and finding that pure peace. So if you're ever in San Diego, come check this place out. Hope you enjoy the pictures, God bless

Great place to spend time with the family. Sand is super soft. There's rinsing showers, there's regular showers. Bathrooms, they're stopped. Everything is clean, no risk of stepping on glass parking is difficult.

Yelp
We spent the day in LA JOLLA, beginning at Harry's Coffee Shop, then we went to the Children's Pool and the Birch Aquarium. We then spent the day at the LA JOLLA SHORES PARK BEACH!!! I spent the time back on the Cement Bench, guarding our supplies, AND VALUABLES!!! As I understood it, my Niece spent the majority of the time in the water, but also collecting sea shells. It was a great outing for the FOUR OF US!!!

Yelp
La Jolla Shores Park is located just north of Kellogg Park, adjacent to the La Jolla Shores Beach. Free parking for the beach and parks in La Jolla Shores Park. It's a short walk to La Jolla Shores shops, bars, and restaurants. The Park is one of my favorite places for enjoying the waterfront in San Diego. The are public restrooms at the north end of the park, and more just south of Kellogg Park. The Park tends to be crowded on weekends and most days in the summer. Plan your visit for early in the day or later in the afternoon.
