LA LAGUNA RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE

My family stayed in Fairmont Mayakoba in Cancun. The first day we had a dinner at La Laguna. We all loved the foods. Also their breakfast buffet is very good.

Excellent breakfast buffet, possibly best in all hotels we’ve visited. Great mix of American, Mexican and European options, great service too. But pre-book it with the hotel or you’ll pay a fortune.

Good service, the food is a hit or a miss. It is hard to blame them for catering to their non native visitors by having muted flavors. Try the nachos with oxaca cheese. The corn side dish is spicy, but yummy. Consider sitting outside for the cool breeze and the entertainment provided by the turtles and fish.

La Laguna was absolutely beautiful and magical at night. I came here with my fiance for drinks after dinner (didn’t eat here) and we were seated on the outside patio right on the lagoon. Lighting and ambiance were spot on. Our server Edwin was fantastic and made us feel so welcome. He was very attentive and made our experience so much more enjoyable

Cooking class with Chef Ivan Salinas was an unforgettable experience. We learned the history of the culture, the flavors and the combinations. We enjoyed the privacy of the class as well as the knowledge of the chef. The food we cooked was steak with sauce and it was great. The chef even joined us for the tasting and shared his personal experiences on his quest to become the chef at La Laguna. Highly recommended.

Excellent breakfast spread. Pretty much everything you could want and all of it quite tasty. The best dining experience in the resort. The omelette station had huitlacoche which was a pleasant surprise. We were charged a different price for the breakfast buffet each day, which seemed shady. We had breakfast included in our package so the charges weren't kept, but still something to keep an eye on if you don't have it included.

Solid food, really great service. Guacamole served and made right in front of you! I highly recommend the all inclusive package

Nice beachfront grill at the Andaz Mayakoba. The food is solid, the cocktails are even better and the service is great. The main attraction is the ambience of being on the beach facing the Caribbean.

Location location location - can't beat this view and location. Such a special dinner right on the beach with ocean views. Food was delicious - everything on the menu was excellent and the service was on point!

Sotavento is one of the four restaurants on-site at the Andaz Mayakoba. Though comparing the four to each other feels like comparing apples to oranges, the experience at Sotavento cannot be matched. Imagine, you're seated at a table with front row views of a gorgeous beach, hair blowing in the wind, toes in the sand, with a cocktail in hand. Now, imagine fresh fish being caught for the day and being served ceviche, fish tacos, &/or even grilled fish to satisfy your empty belly. Everything that's been described IS real and you can have it here at Sotavento. The dishes at Sotavento are fresh and lightly seasoned (but also its downfall if you're wanting more flavor). My all time favorite order were the grilled oysters with habanero. Though the oysters alone were silky and already perfect to taste, the habanero really elevated the taste with it's spice.

The food seemed fine, but my husband got food poisoning so terrible later in the evening that he wound up needing to leave the resort area for a hospital stay during our trip. The ambiance is nicely situated outdoors except on rainy days and the service is fine, otherwise.

This isn't your typical beach resort restaurant. The food, service, and ambiance is fantastic. This was our last night at the Andaz on this stay, so I wanted to dine at a special place with my fiancé. We had a reservation and were seated at a center table right on the sand with a view of the Sea of Cortés in front of us. The ocean breeze, sound of the waves, and smell of grill is a thrill to the senses. There's no bad table at this location and because it's on the beach they'll still serve you even if you don't have on shoes.   Victor our server was great, attentive, and knowledgeable. His service and assistance from the manager Julian made our dining experience special. We were presented 2 glasses of champagne to celebrate the occasion. My fiancé had the Salmon, and I had the Grilled Mayan Octopus. We had sides of their polenta and grilled sweet potatoes. For dessert, (yes, we had dessert too) we had vanilla puff pastry and the cherry clafoutis. All the food was delicious, with great presentation and excellent service.  This was somewhat of reunion with the manager Julian because he was a key part to our engagement at the property last year. With coordination from the magnificent team at the Andaz Mayakoba we were greeted by him at the dock with champagne as we were preparing for a birthday/surprise proposal dinner. He had taken photos of us and although we didn't dine at Sotavento on this night Julian left great impression upon us.  Sotavento means leeward or the side sheltered away from the wind. If this is the food that will be prepared and served after a shipwreck, then I'll be Gilligan. Great food and service.

Vibe at this Sotavento is great - you can get an ocean facing table and eat under the starlights. Food is amazing here but what you don't find out that it can be swarming with FLIES. Yes, meat flies - you won't see them until the food comes out. We were totally caught off guard since it was a bit windy at the time - surprised they could hang. If you complain, they'll bring over some incense to ward them off (but attempt is sorta futile). We resorted to asking for a second set of plates so we can cover the dishes in a clam shell fashion. So yeah, while the food is amazing - just not sure if it's worth the stress.

Good but way too expensive. $7 for a Diet Coke. $17 for a bowl of white rice. Small portions. In the picture I combined my child's portion of sea bass with my adult portion of octopus.

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Where else can you enjoy world class seafood, under the stars with your toes in the sand? My wife and I enjoyed a few memorable meals together here while on our honeymoon and they are now memories we will cherish together forever. Geronimo went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience possible while dining here on our honeymoon. We were lucky enough to try a variety of foods here but my favorites were the clams, lobster and octopus I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in an unforgettable setting.

The food is really good, they have many options for seafood and other alternatives, good cocktail and wine selection. We also like their desserts. The ambiance and music is so welcoming, the servers are friendly. Coupled with the breeze and moonlight, it is a delight to dine at this place. Make reservations ahead of time.

Beautiful experience beside the ocean...it's not a typical beach restaurant, it's very relax yet elevated. Victor and Julian were good hosts as they engaged in genuine conversation. The mushroom salad is a must along with the humus. The vegetable tartar was filling and fresh. They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

The setting to this restaurant is perfect. You can put toes in the sand while dining, so ladies, don't wear heels. We had 8PM reservations and our table was not ready. They immediately offered complimentary drinks. The food took too long to get to us, about 30 minutes after ordering. The staff was kind. I would come back due to the setting.

Two great meals within one week. Beautiful setting on the beach, live music, delicious food. Recommend whole grilled catch of the day and fresh oysters. Don't miss the desserts!
