La Locanda di San Francesco

Practically perfect. I struggle to think of anything I would change about this place. Low-key but very friendly staff made us right at home, beautiful room with sweeping views of the valley from the bed, and a very large bathroom. The room was comfortable and fitting with the setting, and equipped with everything. I WOULD add another option for more reading light, I suppose. Breakfast spread showed great attention to detail, and was a calming, quiet start to the day. The wine bar downstairs was a gift for its terrace and selection of local wines by the glass and great restaurant suggestions. In short, an extremely high quality establishment.

This place was an absolute gem. The hotel is situated atop a hill which provided stunning views. Talk about a beautiful sunset! Our room was lovely and well-appointed. Luca was helpful and knowledgeable. We loved the little enoteca on-site, but also enjoyed strolling down the hill via cobblestone streets to enjoy restaurants, wine bars, and boutiques. We will definitely revisit Montepulciano and when we do, we will stay at this very special place again.

This place is truly magical. Due to a train strike, our arrival was extremely delayed, but Luca accommodated this change and met us at the hotel to show us to our room and assist with our luggage. He was even kind enough to arrange a dinner reservation for us at a local restaurant. The room was traditionally furnished and cozy, with gorgeous views out of the windows on either side. The location is very central at the top of town, not more than 10 minutes’ walk anywhere you might want to go, but extremely quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was one of the better spreads we had staying at many hotels around Italy, and when we went to the attached enoteca for lunch, we were pleasantly surprised to find Luca hard at work in the kitchen. There is so much to see and do in the Val D’Orcia but we will definitely be back to relax and enjoy this stunning accommodation.

We did not stay at the hotel, but after eating at the wine bar, we will look at staying here on a future trip. Stopped at the wine bar for a bite to eat, and it was great. The mixed Tagliere board (charcuterie) for 2 and it was big. Great selection of meat and cheese, and the caramelized onions were amazing. Plus, a staggering array of wines, the server had to help us and chose a great one from the region.

This is our third stay which spans appx 10 years. As usual, the room is very nice but showing a little bit of age. The wine bar staff were excellent, and checked us into the B&B. I would really recommend that they provide some assistance with the luggage bringing it up the long staircase leading up to the rooms. After straining my back, I think I have aged out of staying here without that assistance. Other than that, lovely.

This was a dream stay. I couldn't believe how amazing the views were. The restaurant downstairs was good, although you have to book it early to get in. The only tricky thing is driving in and out.

We stayed in the suite and enjoyed the very spacious room. It's beautifully decorated and updated but still maintained the charm and character of the original building. The views from our room and the plaza just outside the villa are absolutely stunning. Sunset is an absolute treat. Service was very helpful and accommodating at check in. You can walk to everywhere from the villa. Will absolutely return and stay again.

Luca and his staff, Victor, Camilia, Roxanna and Ramona were outstanding in every way. They made my wife and I have a wonderful vacation stay. The room was beautiful. The view was incredible. The breakfast was excellent, the lunch and outside sitting area was exceptional.

Perfect! Quiet and quaint, just like Montepulciano. The breakfast was great too, full spread. The views from the rooms are incredible. Be sure to catch the sunset just outside the bar and restaurant. ​
