"A Taste of New York in San Sebastián La Madame is one of the most forward-facing dining spots in San Sebastián . It's one of the only place in the city where you can find well-executed fusion cuisine, with touches of American, Japanese, French and Basque cuisine and perhaps THE only that has a real cocktail program in place. It's a dark, vibey spot. Call ahead for reservations and go hungry. Mondays are special menu days, each with a different theme."

The best restaurant ever! Every dish is recommended especially the tuna tartar. Their cheese cake is amazing too, worth trying. We love the staffs. The service is great. They introduced every dish with details and patience. The host Cesar (I hope I make it correct) is friendly, warm and full of passion. With him, we understand how the sentence ‘Feel at home’ truly means. I can see how he is so proud of the restaurant and it is such a pleasure to be served by him and all the other staffs there. We will come back again for our next trip to San Sebastián. And all the best to this restaurant and all of you!!!

Google
Great food and great atmosphere but it’s advisable to book in advance. We turned up here late on a Monday evening (many other restaurants were closed) and were lucky to get in as they were extremely busy. Fortunately they were able to squeeze us in because there were only two of us. Service was a bit slow to begin with but the wait was worthwhile because the food and wine were really very good. I had scallops to start with (delicious) and a tuna tartare for mains (equally tasty). Thoroughly recommend and thank you to the restaurant for letting us in at such short notice!

Google
Probably the best restaurant experience we've had in spain so far and that says a lot since we have been here for 5 months and have traveled all over. We've been to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Grenada, Seville etc etc and even the Pyrenees. The food here was the best amongst them. We had the steak tartar as an appetizer and my wife who is polish and grew up on the stuff said it was the best she's had in europe. I had one piece of foie gras nigiri. Yes, that's right they made foie gras into a nigiri and it had this amazing unagi sauce. As mains, we had the scallops and the hake. Price was fair with the average entree at around 25 Euro and it was on par with some of the more expensive restaurants in our home town Toronto.

My husband and me had a very enjoyable dinner at La Madame. Good atmosphere, attentive staff, delicious food, nice wine pairing, all made our night. The chef made special adjustment for my husband, who is vegetarian, this is really considerate and flexible.

Wow wow wow!!!! Wow!! what a great meal. One of the best during my 3 week European trip through Spain and France. The “egg” dish was one of the most delicious pasta dishes I ever had, with really wonderful tasting guanciale and perfectly cooked egg. So tasty, it was hard to describe. The scallops were outstanding!!! The shrimp ceviche was unlike any ceviche I had ever had. This really was an outstanding meal. Even the cocktails were amazing. And the service was top notch. The waitstaff was all super friendly, spoke in different languages and were always attentive. I loved this place!!! You will not be disappointed!! Make reservations so you don’t miss out on such a delicious meal.

Google
Lovely restaurant and very warm staff. Foie gras nigiri and the best tuna tartare ever were standout dishes. Beef Wellington dish strangely under flavoured and sitting in an unflattering mix of two purees which didn't work. Can recommend overall, thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Google
We were walking nearby and got hungry, so we searched on Google for a highly rated restaurant in the area — and we’re glad we did. After visiting, we have no regrets at all. The food was truly delicious and of great quality. Each dish we ordered was on a high level, both in taste and presentation. The service was attentive and friendly. Definitely five stars!

Fantastic food, cocktails & service - cannot recommend this place enough…we are talking about taking long weekends away to San Sebastián just to visit here again…superb!

Yelp
Good Many people had said this place was amazing. The service was really good. The Scallops and Hamburger were really good from what the people in our group ordered. The scallops were a main course but only had 5 scallops not starch or vegetables, great flavor. So both that ordered the scallops thought they should be more to the dish. The large prawns from Ecuador influence was delicious with basil and peanut sauce. Everyone said the Indian influenced butter chicken was best dish of the night. The pork potsticker from Vietnam Was really nice. The waiter we had took us on a great food journey during the description. The cocktails were great with a nice variety. The Bad: My group had a 4 star experience I had a 3 star experience. To start we were a party of 6 and they only brought 3 menus and they asked me for my order before I was even able to look at the menu. So having to wait on looking at the menu was rather rude in my opinion each customer should get a menu. So started off with a negative. Especially since they were asking us to order when 2-3 people hadn't even looked at the menu. The waiter should let everyone know to share the menus when they only bring three menus for a party of 6. I ordered the Wellington 2.0 It should be called .5 For me it wasn't an improvement on a beef Wellington it was not even half a beef Wellington. It was a take on Beef Wellington. But the puff pastry was an after thought that didn't even cover the top of my steak. They said the steak would be medium and recommended that. It was just below medium rare very blood. The broccoli was cooked okay but not really seasoned. I had never had parsnips but figured I would try something new it had foie Gras, also so I now know this combination is not for me. See photos So I don't recommend Wellington 2.0 Unless you just very rare medium rare, with parsnip purées and foie Gras.

Yelp
Amazing little gem tucked away off the busy avenue. We went for cocktails and had a great time! Lively atmosphere and fantastic cocktails! Service was amazing and the staff was extremely friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Fantastic service, delicious burger, and perhaps the best curry chicken I've tasted in a long time. Chill vibes!

Yelp
We were able to make a reservation over the phone mid afternoon for around 8:30pm. We were seated promptly when we arrived, but we were a bit early. I think this might have led to some other tables being waited on faster than us, as we were one of the first groups to sit down and order drinks and appetizers, but groups beside us got their drinks and appetizers much more quickly. I got the special which was the Reuben sandwich which was very good. My fiancée got the jake which was really good. I also got a chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert which was very good. Overall a good experience and I would definitely eat here again, but hopefully get a little better service the next time.

Yelp
Service 1 star Food 3 star It's best to make a reservation, especially on weekends. I came on a Sunday and was able to get a seat, but had to wait ~20 minutes. I hope they were understaffed that day and that service wasn't as slow as it actually was. Most of the 20 minutes spent waiting was just to get someone's attention so we could sit. Once seated, it took another 35 minutes to get the menu and someone's attention to take our order. About an hour and 15 minutes after we arrived at the restaurant, our food came out. Though you get a 3 course brunch, the portion sizes are fairly small, so you're left wanting more. The taste of the food didn't wow me either. If you're in San Sebastian and looking for good brunches, I'd suggest trying something else.

Yelp
On a visit to San Sebastián, some friends and I stopped by La Madame for Sunday brunch. Absolutely incredible deal- it included fresh juice, coffee or tea, muffin or toast, a savory course, and a sweet course for only 20€! Everything we ate was delicious! I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time.

Yelp
Love this place! We didn't go for brunch but instead went for late night food and drink. I was a little worried that we didn't make reservations but fortunately we were able to get a table. The cocktails are *excellent*, the food is really, really good, and the staff is all very nice. I would go back here in a heartbeat (and we almost did!).

Yelp
On the first day of our arrival to San Sebastián, we asked the hotel to make a reservation for us to a restaurant nearby. They picked this restaurant which was walking distance to our hotel. We got to this place on time, actually the first customer. The staff were extraordinary and we truly felt welcomed. As matter of fact, our server said: "we are so delighted you chose our restaurant and we welcome you"; this is something I never heard in my life, particularly in European restaurants which the tip is included in the bill. The ambience really was great, the drink was super, we had a house special cocktail, which was very tasty as well. The food, appetizers, particularly Mediterranean one was delicious; and the main course, lamb, hamburger were really well prepared. I recommend this place very strongly and want to thank the staffs for making us feel at home. It is 4 1/2 stars!

Yelp
Make a reservation for weekend brunch, put on those stretchy pants and then roll on in for an hour or two of breakfast cocktails and a multi-course brunch. This isn't ordinary eggs on toast brunch territory. There's gigantic burst-your-arteries burgers with foie, pancakes or lighter options such as seared salmon and vegetables. It's all well made and generous and you'll be hard pressed to fit in the "dessert" course. The vibe here is a bit odd at brunch time. I imagine it's more suited to dark and noisy nights, and comes off a little stale and clinical in the day time. However, for a lazy (and possibly boozy) brunch on a weekend it's a great pick.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing, you must go!!! From the second I walked in the door, the service was incredible. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable (added bonus: they speak multiple languages, making it very easy to communicate). My server recommended the Foie Gras Nigiri (pictured) and it was life changing. Definitely one of the best dishes I've ever had!! I will have dreams about it until I'm back in San Sebastián and can have it again. Highly recommend.

Yelp
There's a ton of great food in San Sebastián/Donostia. You know...Michelin stars here...award winning chefs there. But, don't overlook the restaurants that are lesser known, such as La Madame. Upon entering, you're greeted with a cool vibe, and you wonder whether it's a cocktail lounge or a restaurant. Yes, the cocktails are AMAZING. However, the food should not be overlooked. Though not traditional "basque" cuisine, the menu is thoughtful and full of interesting flavors that blend well. My favorites included the scallops, the hake, and the slow poached egg (returned a second night for that alone). The service is great, and the staff is very helpful. They speak English extremely well for those of you traveling to the region. I would definitely suggest this to those who want delicious cuisine but want cheaper, more laid back option than some of the other upscale restaurants in the area.

Yelp
Loved this place, the food & the ambiance. More for adults than families as it's a low-light bar-like atmosphere at night but I don't see why you can't bring children. Service was good, drink menu unique, and food choices from simple to fancy. I opted for the simple & was very pleased.

Yelp
We had an excellent experience at La Madame. First, upon arriving we were told without a reservation we probably had a long wait. However, the gentleman asked another individual and, voila, we were seated immediately. Then we both had great meals: the shrimp and pork dumplings and the falafel and hummus plate both hit the appetizer "spot". Finally, I ordered something I rarely eat even in the States, a cheeseburger and fries. A typical, good burger. She ordered the seared scallops with baby leeks in a very unusual tasting citronella oil-infused sauce. It was different and really good. Scallops seared perfectly. To top it all off was great service by Wander who also kindly helped us with our attempts with the Basque language :) Would certainly recommend La Madame for a non-pintxo meal while in San Sebastian

Prosha K.

Yelp
A great place to dine. The food and the drinks (local cider) were just perfect! One of the best choices in its category

Yelp
Awesome bar and restaurant. Would say the best and most favorite place I ate at in San Sebastián. Very attentive staff and the menu was excellent. Would absolutely recommend this place.

Yelp
We have been missing Mexican and Italian food, since leaving California. La Madame fit the bill. Our starter was a burratta toast, with sun dried tomatoes, fried capers and fresh pesto. Very good. My wife ordered the carnitas with guacamole. She loved it. I ordered the braised beef cheeks, with polenta and fried tortilla straps. I enjoyed mine as well. Good sangria, good wines. A great find.

Yelp
Big dissapointment....We sat down at 8:06PM a party of 6 (including my mom and aunt who are a bit older) 10:27PM we have yet to recieve our mains and one of our entrees came without a main ingredient (the corn tostadaa came without the guacamole) after we tried to ask for the tartare without the french fries and we were told plates could not be modified due to chef's artistic creativity... Their creativity seems to be used to their personal benefit. The food itself was not bad but we had way better meals at every other restaurant in San Sebastian during our stay. Service needs all the help it can get.

Yelp
I have been fortunate enough to have great meals all the world, and am a cook - I have enjoyed Michelin Star meals I must say that any rating for LaMadame less than 5 out of 5 is an insult -this is actually fine dining at its best - for example the morrocan lamb is other worldly - so great it is all most a different species. Of all the restaurants I have taken the opportunity to review LaMadame is easily the best. When u are in San Sebastián u r cheating yourself if you miss it

Yelp
Some of the best food I've had in Spain. The staff was very friendly. Everyone here also spoke English which helped us a lot. We had a group of 5 and everyone's food was amazing!!

Yelp
I highly recommend this restaurant. Our waiter was absolutely amazing. He was knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on. The atmosphere was upbeat and the food was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the Moroccan lamb with couscous and the meat was cooked to perfection. I had the scallops with lobster oil in a citrus sauce and it was delicious. The place is a must to dine in while in San Sebastian. This place is better than some of the Michelin star restaurants that we have dined in.

Yelp
La Madame has quite a trendy and international feel and with its three-course-brunch it's also a culinary attraction. True, the Huevos Rancheros could've been a bit spicier and it would've been nice to have some bread on the side; other than that the food left nothing to be desired. And what's more, the service was extraordinarily attentive.

Patti A.

Yelp
We were looking for a restaurant to have a sit down dinner instead of tapas this evening and came upon La Madame on the way back to our Airbnb. Even though we did not have a reservation, they managed to give us a beautiful table by the window. Our server was Wander and he was wonderful!! The food was absolutely delicious. We tried several items and split them between four of us. And the drinks were excellent as well. They had great background music we were familiar with, 70 and 80's and we just had the best meal and relaxing time!! Would most definitely return!!!

Yelp
Stopped in for drinks and dessert on the Saturday before Halloween. The restaurant and staff were decked out for Halloween - they even put gummy eyeballs in our dessert. Drinks were great and the staff was very friendly!

Yelp
I'm really amazed with this place, they hit 5/5 on everything. The atmosphere, food, friendliness, everything was great. My gf and I grabbed a bottle of wine and dinner and loved it.

Kaitlyn M.

Yelp
We went with a party of 4. I had the best burger I have ever tasted with fois gras and a chicken wing! My sister had a phenomenal butter chicken. The food was fantastic and so was the service! We also had cocktails which were perfectly executed! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food! Had the scallops with citronella foam and my father had the beef cheek. All very excellent with great service from our charismatic waiter, Wander! Beautiful, crisp chacolí as well! Would definitely go again for another lovely meal!

Yelp
Really wonderful ambience near to the beach of San Sebastian. Our waiter was phenomenal and was so passionate about the food he was bringing us. We had the butter chicken Indian dish and we highly recommend. The cheesecake for dessert was really great. If you are looking for a sit down dinner in San Sebastian I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
We really desired a sit down dinner and this place was just a block from our hotel. It was an excellent choice for us. Very creative food and classic cocktails. The fixed menu for the Monday we went was "San Sebastián Chinatown". Food was very good, though we both desired a bottle of sriracha for the arroz frites (ah, fried rice). Staff were very friendly, ambiance was modern and comfortable. Just a note, although the website says the open at 6:00pm, when we went, they were not opening until 8:00pm.

Yelp
Excellent food ans wine an great service. Our son (age 12) got a specialmade hamburger no extras. However, very small portions.

Yelp
I'm happy to say that this was one of the top five meals of my life. We actually found this restaurant while staying at the hotel Londres down the street and I loved the menu and the website - that definitely drew us in. We had been traveling around Spain for about a week at this point and definitely wanted a sit down meal that wasn't tapas. La Madame happily exceeded all of our expectations. The restaurant was empty at 8PM on a Sunday night. As a table of 4 we ordered, to start, sashimi scallops, my personal garden, dumplings, and the burrata. Everything was exceptional. My personal garden was definitely big enough for a main course and it was not only delicious but one of the most creative dishes I've ever seen. For the main meals we had the steak tartare, hanger steak and grilled hake. Again, everything was perfect. Service was wonderful and I would recommend this to everyone. Please go here and support this fantastic restaurant. Thank you to everyone there for a terrific experience!!
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I liked it so much, I came here for brunch and dessert in the same day! It's like new-American cuisine with a Spanish twist. I also appreciate that they had one healthier dish (indicated with the bikini icon) as an option for each course. Unique and creative dishes in a hip-but-intimate environment with excellent service. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the food was on the heavier side (not uncommon for Spanish food) and requires a leisurely post-meal walk along La Concha.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Amazing place! A friend of mine recommended this place- delicious cocktails (I had the la infante) & my husband the local beers (basque land attain amber ale and the IPA). We weren't too hungry but had the corn polenta with pouched eggs- great flavor. Definitely reminded me of home- San Diego, california for the atmosphere, drinks, & interesting menu selection ;) good alternative when you want a pintxos break!
google avatar

Yelp
Not the typical Spanish restaurant in San Sebastián. More of an American bistro, but with better food than you would normally find in the US. Very creative chef. Great cocktails. Good, but not speedy, service. We will be back.

Julia B.

Yelp
La Madame was a wonderful find that my family made thanks to a friend's recommendation. They'd told me that it's a great place to refresh your palate after eating your way through Basque cuisine and they were absolutely right. We started with the pork dumplings which were excellent, but the tostadas with carnitas really blew us away. Three of the five of us at dinner are Los Angeles natives and frequently complain about how difficult it is to find great Mexican food outside of LA. The bomba with calamari and Spanish rice was also great. Everything came together beautifully with an excellent cheesecake and a chocolate volcano. Kevin Patricio's menu (and his wine list) is wonderful, and I would have loved to be there on a Monday night when he does a special menu. If you get the chance to go to La Madame, I would strongly recommend arriving early for a cocktail at the bar or one of the Basqueland Brewing Project beers (the microbrewery that Kevin also owns).

Yelp
one of the most amazing restaurants ive ever been to. my friend and i came to san sebastian for one day and stumbled upon this restaurant. the coolest atmosphere, nicest staff, incredibly delicious food and overall great vibes. i wish i could eat here everyday. if i ever come back to san sebastian i will eat here for every meal!

Patty V.

Yelp
We were in San Sebastián in May for Springsteen and stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. It was a Monday night and they were offering a special menu with food from Peru. It was amazing! Delicious from beginning to end, ceviche, a beef dish and delicious dessert. Wonderful cocktails as well. Go here! It will not disappoint. When we come back to Spain we will definitely visit La Madame again. Thank you so much!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible. We went on a Saturday night with no reservation and scored two seats at the bar. Cocktails were amazing, one of the best manhattans I've ever had. Then came the food. The egg with the bacon and truffle and pastina was one of the best things I've ever had. The tostadas with carnitas and guacamole were out of this world also. Burrata on toast with pesto hit the spot! Also the steak tar tar with egg yolk and French fries!! Wow. I can't stop thinking about it. We also went for brunch the next day and they sent us out foie gras over sushi rice and it was hands down the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. Eggs Benny and burger were SO GOOD. Service was on point. Best experience I've had in Spain so far. MUST GO. Try to make a reservation.
