The welcome on our arrival wasn't the friendliest and our first impression of the 2 rooms was they were somewhat dilapidated and had no aircon (we were there during heatwave). ||Our ground floor room (in outbuilding) had a veranda, was quite big and the bed was comfortable. However the furnishings were more shabby than chic - Door handles virtually dropping off, cabinet handles were dropping off etc. However, the place grew on us and we thought for a relatively small outlay they could get the rooms really really nice - They need to modernise the shower (a thermostat mixer would be a start) and add some ceiling lighting - it was really quite dark even at midday. Otherwise seeing past the shabby, it was clean, recently painted etc. ||I didn't look in our son's room which was in main building, but he said it was very hot and something about the headboard made the bed uncomfortable. ||||The hotel itself is a charming looking place and has a great location just a few minutes from the beach. No traffic noise. ||||The restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was by far the best we had in 2 weeks and similar to be said for the 2 evening meals we had. Wife and son converted to Oyster eaters. It has a nice bar too. ||||Aside from the grumpy welcome, the staff were all really good and most spoke pretty good English. ||||Summary, Rooms need a bit of sympathetic modernisation, but it is a quaint place with very good food and service - far superior to the other high-end hotels we stopped at on our 2 week trip.
