Where to Stay in Florence: The Best Neighborhoods For Your Visit

"I liked La Maison du Sage for its eclectic Art Deco design, hardwood floors and bright walls; the spacious, light-filled rooms include a minibar, flatscreen satellite TV, Nespresso machine and kettle, while the sleek, roomy bathrooms often have a bidet and walk-in shower (some have separate tubs), and the breakfast buffet is excellent with pastries, juice, eggs, ham, cheese and fresh fruit." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Florence (Updated 2025)

"Tucked just off Piazza di Santa Croce in the lively Santa Croce neighborhood, this eclectic three-star boutique feels fun and local with pastel-painted walls, interesting artwork, and cool wooden Art Deco furniture that I especially love. The excellent breakfast buffet includes pastries, juice, eggs, ham, cheese, and fresh fruit, and the spacious, naturally lit rooms have hardwood or parquet floors plus minibar, flatscreen satellite TV, Nespresso machine, and a kettle. The large bathrooms feature walk-in rainfall showers (some with a separate soaking tub), heated towel racks, and a bidet, making this a great choice if you want to stay close to the Centro Storico but experience a more local vibe and outsized value for the price." - Matthew Kepnes

Slightly more expensive and farther away from all the actions of Florence, but on the other hand we got to enjoy the amazing amenities and service. Davide was exceptionally welcoming and always greeted us with a smile. Room was impeccable and very clean. We could hear others in the room a bit but most guests were not noisy. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend others who don't mind a bit of a walk to give it a try.

We stayed here before 3 years ago, hence our return visit, prices have increased a lot and the standard has dropped. There’s lot of noise from the bar next door into the early hours and very little acoustic attenuation between rooms. |Breakfast not great as you slide between other people to obtain food from the buffet.|Servicing of our room leaves a lot to be desired, especially when basics should be replenished.|Note - we’ve also stayed twice in the Maison Santa Croce before PH took it over and really enjoyed our stays. It looks like it’s to find somewhere else to stay in beautiful Florence. Don’t get complacent or greedy guys (PH).

The hotel room was beautiful, with a wonderful view out the windows. It’s in a great area for easy walking around the area. The room had a big comfortable bed, nice big tub and shower as well with all the basic hotel amenities. Breakfast can be scheduled the evening before. The hotel is located in the ZTL, it does not offer private parking, instead there is public parking garages around the area.

This hotel is nothing short of perfect. We stayed at five different properties during our two week tour of Italy and la Maison du sage stands out from all others. The hotel is clean, spacious rooms, excellent breakfast, and outstanding hospitality from the front desk team. The location could not be better- close to the tourist sites, in the heart of restaurants and night life, but quiet in the room. Thank you for a fabulous experience. If we ever return to Florence, we will be back!

Positive: Overall feel of the property is wonderful with a upscale feel while not being pretentious. Rooms are spacious, location next to Santa Croce and walking distance to everything. Staff were terrific. This is a gem. Negative: ""

This hotel is located in excellent proximity to the iconic tourist attractions of Firenze. You can walk to most locations from this hotel. On arrival, we were treated to some aperitivo drinks which allowed us to try some local wines. We were very impressed by the spacious room and comfortable bed along with lovely Florentine decor.||If we visit Florence in the future, we will have no hesitation to book this hotel again.||Grazie!

I cannot believe this place has such high ratings but my experience is very poor. First they messed up my room type and moved my luggage to another room without my consent, which is ok given nothing is missing. Second the air conditioner and coffee machine are not working that I asked for extra blankets via whatsapp but they didn’t leave those in my room while I was out for the whole day. And after I complained they gave me one blanket only while we have two beds. Since their reception desk is closed after 8:30 pm and only open after 8:30 am, there is no way I can contact them for more blankets after I arrived my hotel room since they charged 50 dollars for after hours contact. I cannot believe I am freezing for the nights I stayed there.

Yelp
Great place to stay and so close to everything. Bed was comfy and the room was huge. There is a grocery store about a block away...and several restaurants within walking distance. The piazza near by is full of vendors in the day time, but comes to life with music and people at night. The area is quiet at night near the hotel which was nice. Plenty of shopping and attractions are near by as well.

Yelp
What a fabulous little hotel! The art deco furniture and stylings are amazing, and the service was excellent from the moment we walked in. Great location with tons of cafes and restaurants were the locals gather. Would certainly stay here again. I like that this place is easy to miss as it occupies a couple of floors in a residential building. There is not any signage for the hotel itself, so it's easy to pass by if you don't know what you're looking for.

Yelp
What a sweet hotel this is! Great location next to Santa Croce and very comfortable. I especially enjoyed chatting with Agneza at breakfast as she gave me my cappuccino and all the highlights and tips I needed to navigate a beautiful day in the city. Be sure to ask for her!

Yelp
We just returned from a week in Florence and stayed at La Maison du Sage. This boutique hotel is beautifully decorated with highly-styled Art Deco furniture and lovely art work in the guest rooms and in the common spaces. Our rooms were perfect and had modern features while retaining the old world charms of this renaissance city. Location is great, away from the crowds but very convenient, in Piazza Sante Croce. This hotel is so well-run with Aneta and her friendly staff taking care of breakfast, excellent restaurant suggestions, tour bookings, taxis, and being all-around warm and caring hosts. Aneta made our stay warm and memorable and despite some airline issues with our luggage we had a fantastic week in Firenze! 5-Star Service!!

Yelp
READ THIS if you are considering booking a hotel in Italy that is located in the center of everything. Stunning views, within a couple blocks of The Duomo, and Piazza De Michael Angelo and much more. Annette was the beautiful nice woman who helped us and accommodated us with EVERYTHING. She was able to tell us great places to go, got us a taxi to take us to rent a car, gave us excellent recommendations for dinner etc, she made our stay stress free and fun! We found this perfect gem on booking.com and we want to go back right now! We never wanted to leave. Everyone was so pleasant here, they spoke great English and the rooms are extraordinary. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect hotel in all facets. We arrived early and the staff were excited to accommodate. They provided several great recommendations to help us on our stay, rooms were spotless and well appointed with great security. The hotel even featured a happy hour. To top it all off, supremely well located. I would give more stars if I was able, Bravo!

Yelp
Some might complain that the rooms are a tad bit small, but the absolutely enchanting and plush atmosphere in the hotel is far beyond what I was expecting. It isn't just a treat for the eyes- the hotel has this amazing smell, like the place is laced with twenty tons of bubblegum. I wish I lived here...

Yelp
Beautiful facility in the heart of Santa Croce - 10 minute walk to all sights and train station (fast trains to Venice, Rome, etc.)... We couldn't have been more pleased about our decision to stay at La Maison du Sage. It was our plan to room in this area of Florence but with so many accommodation choices available, we felt it best to research them. Based on our findings and reviews of La Maison du Sage, we knew that this hotel would be the perfect fit for us and we were so right. Prior to our trip, we had had some email communications with Aneta who was our main contact at the facility. She was so incredibly awesome and helpful. We could really tell that she stood behind the hotel and her job 150+% - and that she and the team wanted us to have a great vacation. In fact, in one of Aneta's emails responding to our questions about our room, she closed her email saying: "We will do our best to make your stay unforgettable." Basically, that was a foreshadow of what was to come. Overall, the hospitality and their genuine desire to ensure all guests have a wonderful experience was very apparent and so appreciated. The facility is beautiful - the striking art deco decor theme throughout is lovely and everything is in pristine condition. Our room was perfect and not to mention, from our windows in line of sight was the magnificent Santa Croce Church that we got to admire our entire stay. When we (sadly) said goodbye to the La Maison du Sage team, we told them we will be back - and we mean it. We will first check their availability to accommodate us of our desired trip dates, then we will book air.

Yelp
Great hotel in a great and convenient location! We were very impressed with our room. It was clean, quaint and quiet. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Stay here!
