La Maison D'Ulysse (Uzès, French Riviera / Provence) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Provençal garrigue may be the finest scrubland in this or any world, its lime-rich soil supporting signature Mediterranean flora from oak shrubs to lavender and thyme. This sort of trivia becomes quite meaningful when you’re staying at a fortified, luxe-rustic, 16th-century farmhouse like La Maison d’Ulysse — the views, the cuisine, and the architecture are all perfectly adapted to that picturesque backdrop. Apps and screens hold no power here. When you come to the south of France, you adapt to the rustic rhythm of life, not the other way round." - Tablet Hotels

I never expected that this hotel offers a magnificent and stunning view. I was so amazed by the interior design inside of this rustic hotel. Kudos to the owners of this luxurious hotel ‘G&G’ for the brilliant ideas of customising your hotel! You have exceeded my expectation. I felt like I was living in a fairytale story when I was at the little prince room. It was such an amazing stay! The view from the terrace was really enchanting. The warm heated swimming pool would give you a very relaxing experience as it is surrounded by refreshing and beautiful flowers. One of the most unforgettable experience of this wonderful hotel is the food. We all know that we are very particular when it comes to food. I can say that they have such an amazing food to offer. I absolutely recommend this place to everyone!!!! Two thumbs up

Baron is a nondescript village with no shops/bars just off the main road between Uzes and Ales and seemed an odd location for a hotel. Once inside, we overcame our doubts and had a relaxing six night stay. ||Our room (Chant du Murier) has a small terrace overlooking the garden and pool. It was comfortable rather than luxurious with an "open" bathroom area (the WC has a door!). The only niggles were that it got very hot (the air con unit is in the bathroom and faces away from the bed), there's only a hand-held shower and the bedside lights make it difficult to read at night (from the photos, they are the same in all the rooms). ||Although ideal for couples, there were a surprising number of families. This could have made it feel cramped/noisy (particularly the pool area) but most guests went out after breakfast and didn't return until late afternoon. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside and medieval hill top villages but Avignon, the Pont du Gard, Nimes and the Cevennes are all within easy driving distance. ||The hotel is run by the owners and the staff are delightful though service at breakfast could be a bit haphazard. We ate there our first evening but found the chef's ambitious aspirations (tarte au citron deconstructed in a goblet) not quite what we wanted. We may have been unlucky as he was probably trying to impress a restaurant critic who was staying but thereafter we went out. The owners are very helpful about recommending/booking places and explained that - as the area is sparsely populated and locals tend not to eat out - village restaurants are usually little more than pizza joints. We enjoyed Les 3 Canards in Uzes and the Bistrot in Lussan. Les Terriors in Place aux Herbes in Uzes is also fun for lunch or supper.

Spent a fantastic week here.||The hotel is beautiful, set in a tiny village surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields. It's an old restored silk farm and has been lovingly restored by its current owners. ||The room we had, baron perche, was a good size and had a really comfortable bed. One thing to note, in this particular room there is just a curtain dividing the bedroom from the shower and toilet, so if this is an issue for you, you should book a different room in the hotel. The room was however beautifully decorated, rustic yet refined.||The service from all of the staff was brilliant at all times and the food was good. Breakfast was a continental spread, typical of France. Dinner, at €53 a head is pricey but delicious. The chef is very talented and recommend you eat here at least once, not least to experience the beautiful candle lit courtyard dining area.||We loved this place and would struggle to find anything negative to say about it, would love to return some day.|||

Loved a lot about this hotel and it was such a special place to spend 4 days of our honeymoon in France. Lots of leisurely walks along the countryside paths were so simple but incredible. The pool, service, and rooms were fantastic. Coffee in the morning at breakfast was blah (this is coming from an American used to American coffee!) and wish there was espresso. The hotel was nearby to the town of Uzes, which had a great vibe with lots of opportunities for wandering the lovely streets. Our housekeeper was so kind!

We loved La Maison d'Ulysse and I really wish we could give it a 5 star rating. So much about this place is special - the lush gardens with beautiful planting, the gorgeous sea green pool, the contemporary garden furniture and interiors, the delicious dinner. However I have to be honest - the bed was really hard and I didn't sleep well. There wasn't a proper shower, just a bath with a shower hose. Its nice to have a refreshing shower after a long day exploring or sunbathing. We thought it would have been reasonable to leave us drinking water in the room - instead it was available at 5 Euros in the honesty bar. We stayed 3 nights and were not informed when we arrived that the restaurant was closing on our 2nd and 3rd nights. We booked a suite with a private terrace which ended up being a sofa outside our front door. Breakfast was a very basic buffet and some of the dishes were covered with little flies. I hate to give negative feedback but it just lacked the special touches that make a place unique. I think we must have stayed at a time when the owners weren't there as having read some of the other Trip Advisor reviews, it seems that the owners play a big part in many guests' experiences of the hotel. We hardly ever saw anyone who worked there. There was a lady there when we arrived who showed us to our room. She prepared breakfast in the mornings but apart from that the place seemed unstaffed. When we wanted to check out late we couldn't find anyone. Its very very laid back - felt like staying in someone's house who wasn't there! We did love it and I do hope we'll go back there, but we'll choose our room more carefully next time.

Hard to fault. The Maison is an old stone building, beautifully restored by the current owners. This includes thoughtful plantings of a wide range of interesting shrubs, grasses and trees in the grounds. Every contact with the owners demonstrated the same attention to detail to guests’ experiences of the property. Dinner prepared by the in-house chef was excellent. All the basics are right - secure off-street parking, solid Wi-Fi, spacious rooms etc. - so it’s not hard to see why they have picked up some prestigious awards.

Guy en Gauthier upgraded their bed and breakfast in Baron to a small luxury hotel, and did everything right. Enjoy the tastefully designed rooms and the splendid food. Go for one of the walks or bike rides Gauthier made up by himself, or relax with a cocktail next to the heated pool. The charming Uzès is only 15 minutes away by car.

The thought and consideration put into every detail of the conversion of this old silk farm is stunning - the mix of original, traditional and modern is a joy. The location is rural and peaceful and the local town of Uzes (a twenty minute drive) is buzzing, historic and beautiful. Guy and the team at d'Ulysse provide exactly the welcome that you would wish for. All in all a very happy place to stay - we wished we had longer.
