Google
Nice place for dinner next to Sacré-Cœur Cathedral. Quite busy in the evening, long waiting time, however when we came after 00:00 food was served super fast. Some main course dishes are huge for company, like mussels, others are too small even for one person. Very friendly staff, especially waitress Anna, was very professional and positive. We came several times to the place and smile was always on her face.

Google
Lovely atmosphere, and a great place to people watch if you sit outside. Only stopped here for drinks, pretty pricey but worth it for the location. Friendly staff and attentive.

Google
Not too loud at all to talk to each other. We got our seats really fast and waited maybe 10-15 minutes only for food after ordering. We got Caesar salad with crispy chicken, house burger, truffle Parmesan pasta, and fish and chips. Everything tasted perfect! We also tried white wine our server offered depending on our preference on wine (not too sweet)

Google
I was very impressed with the restaurant. First time visitor but was skeptical because of the other reviews. However, we had a group of 18 and had amazing food and service. Best service we’ve had yet in all of France.

Google
A historical restaurant at the heart of Montmartre. That served our 50 people group with care and nice approach. The food was tasty and the service was pleasant. If you come inside read about the history of this venue. Highly recommended place to be 😊

Google
Unexpectedly nice place in super tourist area. Best kids menu with fish and mashed potatoes. Great backed mussels! Nice view to arts and passing by people :)

Google
Very class restaurant. The food is great. Service is also good. Cozy and quiet place.

Google
We dined at La Mere Catherine because of its sentimental value for us. Located in Montmartre at the steps of the Sacre Couer, It's fun to sit outside and watch the people in the square (sadly, there are no real artists anymore, just caricaturists plying their trade). The food is passable French fare but nothing special. Go for the tourist experience, not the food.

Yelp
When I visited it was practically empty. There was only one other guest. However, it was 10:30 am. And it did require many staircases to walk. (Including the stairs from the train station at abbesses, take the elevator at the train station so you can save your energy for the stairs here btw, don't say I didn't warn you). The service was quick. They were so full of smiles and pleasantry at 10:30 am! So friendly!! I was only here for about 15 minutes. I visited for the macaroons and hot tea that came with the Paris go city pass. Yay Thanks for the food!

Yelp
A really fine lunch. Started with roasted Camembert and then a piece of salmon. The cheese was wonderful and was presented with a side of greens. The salmon was cooked perfectly and served with a side of vegetables in a nice rich sauce. Finished with chocolate mousse. Service was excellent. Ambiance was a classic street side cafe our T le was right by the street and the people watching was great. It was right in the center of Montmartre. Mark & Nancy.

Yelp
This is a historic place date back to 1793. Came with my fam after visiting Basilica Sacre Couer. Staff is very friendly/accomodating. We got seated right away facing the patio. Fast service. 11-14 euro for huge breakfast:eggs/ham/salad, free baguette (cant beat that when u compare to US pricing and serving)The size of the breakfast platter can be divided by 2 people, good portion. Delicious.

Yelp
Perhaps a little touristy, but you really you really can't go wrong if you sit outside in the courtyard. You're paying for that. The meal was fine, but I'd say if you're looking for a glass of wine outside, out of the sun, it's wonderful. Wait staff are very friendly, and they know you're a tourist and are ok with it. My colleagues got a bunch of dessert and seemed in heaven, but I passed and just ate more bread. Lots of local artists looking for tourists around the park, but great for kids too.

S C.

Yelp
We used to gocity explorer pass. First chicken was so dry. Our children described it as beef jerky consistency. Then waited offered us drinks which seems to be included with pass and then we were charged 24 euro for 4 small glasses of peach tea. Waiter was attentive and we were going to tip until he brought us the bill for something that we were not informed was not included with our pass.
google avatar

Leah F.

Yelp
Food was very good! Many gluten free and vegetarian options. My friend got the chicken and said it was a smidge dry, but still good!!
google avatar

Yelp
Super touristy location and place, but when you are hot, tired and hungry, it's A OK to go. I ate a delicious salad and had nice wine so, no complaints. Server was kind and friendly.

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
The fixed menu flank steak was tasteless, rubbery, and fatty. The kids' menu, though reasonably priced, consisted of a hamburger and french fries, typical American cuisine. This was listed on the menu as "beef steak." The burger was also crubbly & dry. This restaurant is a tourist trap. Don't be tempted by the location in the main square in Montmarte.

Yelp
This establishment began in 1793. It is one very efficiently, and the service is very good. It is the most traditional French restaurant located in the MontMartre section of Paris. The people watching is amazing. The endive salad wonderful and the french onion soup very traditional. The steak was tough.

Yelp
It is patio seating with an unobstructed view of the Montmartre artists and people-watching at its finest. If you have tired legs, need a break and OK with paying 10 euro for a glass of coke, this restaurant is great! The hostess is real friendly and is quick to hand you a menu if you're just browsing the menu from the sidewalk. She also took a lot of pictures of us. Service is rude and awful, server is Jeremy who also got chewed on in French by our next table neighbor French couple for being rude, curt, and smug. Bad servers like jeremy should not be in the touristy areas coz it leaves a bad taste in the mouth - literally and figuratively! Jeremy aside, It's the perfect spot if you're there just to relax, take your time, use WiFi, use toilets, and watch the world go by. We ordered 2 mussels in white wine (12.99 euro each and came with French Fries) and a glass of coke for 10 euros! Montmartre is so pretty!

Jason L.

Yelp
Keep walking. This place is terrible. Nothing was good. The drinks, the apps, the main dish, the dessert - all bad. Total tourist trap. Good location and that's what gives it one star, otherwise zero stars is more applicable.
google avatar

Harry D.

Yelp
Situated in Montmartre walking distance from Sacre Couer it looks like a French postcard of a French café with tables on the sidewalk. It is in a terrific location where you can watch the world go by as you eat, an ideal setting. Now, let's talk food. If all they served was the French onion soup then it would be a five star restaurant all day long. My wife had the pasta bolognese and it was only ok, I had the cochon lait a pork dish and while the presentation was nice the pork was over cooked and dry even the bread had a weird taste. I would honestly give them one star if not for the French onion soup.

Yelp
Seriously, Paris, artists, and great food! This is the oldest Bistro in Paris. It was founded in 1793. That should be reason enough to go check it out. We stumbled upon this place after checking out the Sacre Coeur. As we were eating they have tons of artists with their artwork on sale and on display just across the street. They also have an outside and inside seating. They have traditional french food with a few extra bonus items. We ordered the combination deal for 27 Euro you get an appetizer and a main course. Or you can choose a dessert instead of the appetizer. If you want all three you can pay 36 Euro. I ordered the Salad with Goat cheese and my husband ordered the french onion soup for our appetizers. The Salad was fabulous. My husband is a french onion soup snob and loved it. For our main course I ordered the pasta and my husband had the Salmon. The Salmon was cooked fine and was pretty good. The pasta they called a risotto but it looked and tasted more like cous cous. Maybe they call it something different in France? They just kept bring bread out I am pretty sure we ate two baskets full. The bread in France is so good! Overall, I would check this place out!

Yelp
We planned a day walk to Monmartre, and decided to stop here for a quick bite. The wine was good, as was the escargot! Good spot for people watching and artist at work if seated outside.

Jen S.

Yelp
We were sat and had a horrible waiter. He was incredibly rude and only placed half our order. We waited 45 minutes until finally grabbing someone else's attention. He placed our order and it was another 20 minutes for the over priced- subpar food. I'll never go there again.

Irving V.

Yelp
Great food u gotta try escargot, friendly staff, our waiter even gave us an explanation about the place & history about it.

Ruth S.

Yelp
It was highly recommended so we went . Bonus ... it's near Sacre Couer Cathedral . We took the Uber there . We didn't have to walk the stairs . Food was great ! Highly recommended ! Shopping for trinkets was fun near the restaurant ! It will not break your budget . Then head on to Sacre Couer . Afterwards , use the monorail going down . The food pictures are just my meal . Everyone else had other stuff but they really liked them as well .

Yelp
So we have gone there twice. First time by chance, just for espresso and onion soup. Both were fantastic. Friendly service, we sat outside facing the square people watching. All tourists that just climbed the stares of Montmartre. We decided to come back another night for dinner. It did not disappoint. A piano player made the evening even more special. Food was wonderful. The staff great nothing was to much trouble. We loved it.

Yelp
I always dine here at La Mère Catherine when in Paris - usually twice Ma year recently Looks like a tourist place but actually I see many French people dining Especially this past Valentines Day Always a live music act - a piano player that sings American songs

Jacob H.

Yelp
Overall very meh... slow service/next to none, and food was very undercooked dry or tasteless
google avatar

Grace D.

Yelp
Food was undercooked. Live music way too loud. Smells weird. Only enjoyed bread and wine. Made for unknowing tourists.

Yelp
It was a gorgeously warm day in February and the tourists and Parisians alike were all roaming Montmartre. We were lucky to grab a seat at an outdoor table and watch the world go by. And also the outdoor artists. Service was good, the food came at the right pace. We enjoyed a bottle of rose and I started with the onion soup gratinee. Hey, why not enjoy a classic. It's fun to compare. This version was absolutely classic too. Two slices of baguette inside, lots of onions, good beef broth base and of course tons of melted gruyere which got browned on top. Perfect. I had a fish dish with roasted potatoes which was done very well, but I couldn't help noticing that frites that everyone else was having. D'oh! Why why why didn't I just get a side order? Grrr. Great lunch, great time.

Yelp
Went here for a quick beverage and snack. Beautiful location in upper Montmartre. A lot of artist and vendors walking about . The prices were ridiculously expensive even for Paris standards. Our waitress had the personality of a dish rag. She even stood with her hand out waiting for a tip! It's to bad, the restaurant is beautiful and the food looked great.

Yelp
After a morning walking around Paris and in Montemarte, we were quite hungry and tired. We browsed the menu outside and decided to go for it as it had many of traditional French foods like escargot, French onion soup, and beef Bourgogne. The food was excellent and the service was terrific. Our waiter showed us how to de-shell the escargot and they were particularly kind to our children. Overall, a nice cafe experience in a fun setting!

Yelp
This was an amazing restaurant!! We came during busiest time of day, they took us right in & served us amazing food very quickly and friendly. I got the ravioli in parmesan sauce & my wife got the authentic beef stew, also worth mentioning they pour a full glass of wine!! I wish I could come back here every week.... but I live in Florida

Valerie A.

Yelp
Spend the day in Montmartre. Had lunch at "la mere Catherine" outside along the street. We enjoyed our escargots, tartar and sausage home made. It was delicious. I would recommend it.

Yelp
Of all restaurants in this area, this must have been one of the worst service and sorry, food as well, that I've ever had/experienced. Waiter took so long without giving us any bread, and checking on us, and when food finally came, that shrimp avocado salad was such a rip-off; hardly any greens (really? a salad with a few pieces of greens?;( mussels that were salty and over cooked, but the worst was the pasta with foie gras- totally overcooked and lacking in flavor for €19!!! And when we mentioned to manager our dissatisfaction, (pasta was hardly eaten) he disputed our claim that most people like it, and without offering any consolation, took the half eaten €19 order and left us hungry and angry. Didn't even take away any charge (or portion) whatsoever for customer resolution. No customer service effort!! Never going back again!

Yelp
I loved this place! The waitstaff was courteous and welcoming. Very polite. It was chilly outside but they insisted we sit under the heaters and they brought us a fur blanket it was awesome. The food was delicious best I've had all week. I will absolutely be back!! I need that ravioli in my life! So good. Great experience!

Yelp
Was in my bucket list of restaurants to eat at while in Paris. It's the oldest bistro in Paris and painted by many of the artist. Had their dinner +appetizer combo for 29 euro... which I thought was fair. I was extremely impressed with the food, better than I expected for a place that I assumed would have some element of tourist trap. Probably the best meal I had while in Paris for 10 days. Great cocktails too! Enjoyed my conversation with the Rushian waitress. Will definitely come back to this place when I return to Paris. The best place in Montmartre for people watching and soaking up the Parisian ambiance.

Eliot L.

Yelp
Very pleasant locale with a classic French bistro menu, and excellent wine choices. I liked the duck and the baked Camembert starter, my wife and kid had the filet. The onion soup missed a bit but the St Julien red wine and the service made up for it.

Jesse R.

Yelp
Food was ok But it was a cozy cool place to have dinner Service was great and the food did come out at very different times for everyone overall pretty good food and nice spot to check out

Yelp
The menu looked incredible and we were very excited to dine here. Unfortunately the waitress forgot to put our order in, so by the time she did, we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes to eat. By that time we were no longer hungry. The manager refused to comp the meal we did not eat and was incredibly rude. I've never experienced such rudeness from any establishment. Needless to say, we will not be returning and would not encourage anyone else to do so.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday here today!! I come here everytime I'm in Paris. I make it a point to visit here. Food is great and the staff is just wonderful.

Yelp
This was the most disappointed experience that I have ever had in a restaurant.. One word SAD... The food was awfull sent the soup back , tried to eat the salad greens that was part of foie gras and was sandy... The manager told us the Chef never washes the greens. the entree beef bougounone was disgusting and could not eat.. The waiter was no where to be found and the manager kept apologing about the food, the service..Unfortunaly I don't get to eat on a Saturday night again in Paris...I am writing this to warn others do not waste your time and money I this restaurant which for some reason seems to be running with any sense of direction... I wish I never listened to the person who gave us a recomidation in the first place... Don't walk but run to another Bistro..

Yelp
August 1970. I was part of a small group of AYH cyclists on a 1400 mile trip through 7 countries and our leader introduced us to Mere Catherine in Montmartre. Over the last 50 years, in each of the five trips in which I've returned to Paris, I have always enjoyed a meal at Mere Catherine. Superb service, superb ambience, and, of course, unparalleled French food. Most recently - February 2019 - my son and I enjoyed escargot, fois gras, rack of lamb, and a chicken dish with a morrel mushroom sauce that was incredible, n'est pas!! Clearly, I will return to this restaurant at my earliest convenience ... and so should you!!! Oui?!?

Helda L.

Yelp
AWFUL food and service. Dry pasta, dry mussels and definitely don't get nasty shrimp avocado salad.

Erik B.

Yelp
We stopped here for something simple: a club sandwich and cheese ravioli. Both dishes were bland, worse than any place you would find on the street, and especially for the price. Even the bread was stale (and we're carb lovers). We told the waitress we did not enjoy the ravioli and asked to substitute or remove from our bill, but the manager said they were unable to do either. We were tempted to dine-and-dash at that point but opted to pay and leave this review instead.

Deena M.

Yelp
Joris was great, he made sure we had everything he needed. Food was delicious! We had the French onion soup, escargot, the beef stew and the ravioli. Would go back.

Josh M.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery and that was it. 10.5 euros for a soda. Beef was over seasoned, chicken was dry and waiting staff was negligent and short. Family ate McDonald's ten minutes later. Sad waste of a beautiful spot.

Kristen D.

Yelp
I am so glad that we stopped here to eat! Our food came quickly. Both of our meals were absolutely delicious. Everyone that helped us was super friendly and did a great job. Our desserts were delicious. This was just a wonderful dinner experience!
