The convent has incredible potential as it sits higher up from Dinant village, lending stunning views. The hills are covered with lovely native bushes and meters huh clematis. It’s rugged, quiet, marked by the magical peals of the abbey bells. Original stained glass of incredible beauty and craft, and hardwood flooring are found in the main house, That’s what’s good.
Care is missing from this hotel. Management could learn how things are done by viewing other historical hospitality venues. Cobwebs, dusty clumps line corners and windows. My room floor was a plastic thin placemat type ‘carpet’ which was stained. Wall tiles in the bathroom were installed unevenly, not even flush with each other as if a level had not been used. Austere furniture and spartan styling in the rooms compare more favourably to the dar and dingy, halls and reception area which was clustered with ‘souvenirs’ and beer paraphernalia.
Daily breakfast was very good, however completely unstaffed. An apparent air of ‘nobody cares’ permeates what could be an outstanding historical property offering a chateau style experience. I’m not sure why it’s called a resort as there are not offerings apart from lodging, no restaurant either.
It was overall an incredible disappointment.
