La Oruga y La Cebada

La Oruga: very nice rooftop terrace. Nice atmosphere, but as usual is Mexico, the background music was overwhelmingly loud. My chicken tacos were very good. Very well filled. Service was normal.

***Not a total lost*** We went there mainly to hang out and the place is really nice and it has great ambiance to hangout, however the service was not good. When we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated, which gave me hope of what was to come. We waited at least 10 minutes before anyone asked us for our drinks. They brought us our drinks and then they simply forgot to come back and take our order for the rest of the meals. We were having a meaningful conversation and really enjoying our company so that we didn't not mind at first, but after 20 minutes of seating there, I had to get someones attention and asked if we could please place an order. After we finished eating, we asked for a bottled water and again the waiter simply forgot, we didn't make a fuss, we simply paid and left. The food was mediocre, I mean it was not bad. Although I can think of several other places that would have better food, better pricing and better service....I am willing to give this place another try, and I will order something different. I have had bad experiences before at other places and then gone a second time and the place redeemed it self.. **Tip: Don't expect the Tacos Gobernador to be shrimp only. This place serves their Gobernador tacos with thick pork belly. Which is not bad for those who like or are able to eat pork. My wife has had these tacos in many different places and is always just shrimp. She didn't expect them to have pork, which she is allergic to.

The setting amazing. Went early afternoon as to have a peaceful snack on the terrace. Highly recommended Thier enchiladas potosia.... The only issue was how slow the service was considering there was no one really in the restaurant. It took 40 minutes to get my appetizer and it was stone cold. It tasted great but was cold. The fish tacos on another level. I ordered the same micheladas twice but they came out completely different which was a bummer. Over all highly recommend seems just a fluke in service and probably not an overall representation of normal service.

Oruga y Cebada has always been my favorite spot in the historic center of San Luis Potosí. Unfortunately, during my last visit, Fernando, Gael wasn’t able to seat us, even though the place was nearly 75% empty. We were hoping to enjoy a relaxed meal next to the beautiful alley, so this was quite disappointing. This place was a solid 5-star gem four years ago, and I truly hope it doesn’t lose its original charm. Please don’t change preserve the legacy and hire people who care. Avoid becoming too commercial, and keep the authentic, soulful vibe that made Oruga y Cebada special. Legendary beer is still among the best in SLP Mexico, and certainly a standout. I sincerely hope to see the exceptional service return, please! this place deserves to shine again!

Great food & drink selections. We visited two times, once seated on the terrace with great views and the second time we chose to be seated on ground floor. Service was exceptional on both visits. We really enjoyed getting a great porter beer on tap. The pizza and ribs were very good. Loved the music and casual vibe. Reminded me of my favorite hometown pubs in Portland Oregon USA.

Really awesome evening with delicious food. I had the shrimp sopes al pastor and were delicious. A little small but then again I just needed something to snack from. Loved the view from la terraza and it's adjacent to three other businesses that looked just as good. Will definitely bring the wife here on my next trip.

This is a lovely rooftop resto right in the historical center. They have a wide range of beers; international, artisanal and local brews. I had the arachera and apple pie, both perfectly prepared. I recommend.

Layover in Leon, lots of recommendations for this restaurant. It's down near the townsquare, with rooftop seating and a sweet view of the sunset and the church steeple. Menu has some Mexican favorites and some local flare. There is a nice cocktail list and I thought they did a great job with their mezcal Margs. Here's my three things: 1) View is great, good food, but just next door was a joint that was hopping on a Sunday. 2) Lots of different Margs on the menu and I could see some signs of fresh squeezed juice. 3) Anything with Pulpo ( octopus) is solid give it a shot.

Went to this place for brunch on Sunday. We were seated on the top floor where there was live music playing. The view is gorgeous you can appreciate the church architecture and some other buildings. Service was really good, the truth is most places in this area you feel welcome. People go out of their way to give directions or to simply answer question. Can't beat Mexican hospitality. The food was excellent. We ordered the bruschetta with goat cheese. I will say is a must. Very soft but crunchy at the same time and refreshing. My friend ordered the carne asada and I ordered the octopus which was super delicious. We didn't not orders drinks but they have a large beer selection. Highly recommend this place.

Come enjoy lunch and a local beer with awesome views of the city. They have 2 rooftop patios, making this place much larger than I thought. I ate lunch and got a flight of beer on their main patio. I got their kids pizza, bc I wanted something small. It was a pretty good size and it was surprisingly very good! The crust was nice and thin and appears to be wood-fired. I am anti eating pizza in Mexico, but I actually liked it here. The local beer was pretty tasty as well. They have the normal stuff, a little of everything (stout, IPA, wheat, etc.). Flights are my favorite, bc I like to try a little of each. After eating we discovered they had another patio on the other side, with an even better view!! We wondered over to the other patio to take pictures before leaving. La Oruga has casual vibes and was very enjoyable to hang out at. I won't hesitate to stop by again when in the area.

Waiting is super long, however, omg the pulpo con esquites is tu die for. Omg this is a real chef playing with seafood and ancestral food izquitl which comes from the Nahuatl word that means roasted corn. The Mezcal drinks is another explosion of ancestral gods drinks . I recommend 400 conejos Mezcal and you can replace in your drink it will be more $$$ than the menu price. I waited for over 1 hour for my main course and when my waitress finally remember me , she told me that she did not put the order. And she did never bother to check on me. This is horrible service too bad for the chef who is amazing. Do not come this place u less that you will be chasing the servers so they can bring your food. This is the worst customer service place ever in the history of restaurants

This place is located right in the middle of the historical district. It's surrounded by lots of beautiful old buildings all made out of rock. The restaurant is also in an old historic building with a lot of charm. It's more spacious than it looks. They have two outdoor patios, so lots of room for a larger group. You can get a lot of local craft beers here, they also offer flights for those who like to sample. We enjoyed lunch on the patio. I got their wedge fries. They had Parmesan and green onions on top. They were pretty good. This is a cool place to hang out. They also have a band on the weekends, from what I understand. I will be back!

I had a great dinner with a great view! Such a nice place with good service. I was with 3 friends and we ordered 2 pizzas, to our surprise, they had a special of 2 pizzas for the price of one. Score! We had a few drinks and a great time. The view was so awesome!

One of the many favorite spots in my hometown. Why? This place is in downtown where you will find and be immersed in 500 years old constructions (churches, buildings, parks) and you will get a nice lovely feeling of how this city transpires at night. My favorite table is at the roof, where they have a nice patio and you can enjoy the breeze with a good tasting beer brewed from this place. If you are in the private mood, they also have tables inside or in small rooms where you can have a group dinner or a private one with your significant other. One of my favorite beers is 2 de Abril which they brew. We always ask for a pitcher as it goes fast... and you can share with others. They have several options, including bottled beer. Food is also amazing. We requested this last time one of their home made pizzas with interesting ingredients or options. The one we had was the Mexican, which had jalapeno, tomato, onion and other great ingredients. We also had the cheese sampler which was tasty and went fast! Servers are always helpful and taking good care of you. Prices? Very affordable! This is not an expensive place, with great food, scenery, and when you have good company.... it's a recipe for a great dinner! Try it, you won't regret it.

We walked by this place two nights in a row - and the line was out the door both nights! so we decided to stop by A little before the crowd started. Glad we went while it was a little empty because the service was fast and they were friendly and what kind while explaining everything to us. We ordered the Rompopito (read: an alcoholic eggnog like drink!) and Orguitas de Mezcal Mango (how can you go wrong with this?) and we were so glad we did. We tried to have the local flavors whenever we travel, and both of these drinks were extremely well-made, fairly strong, and very very tasty. If you enjoy a night out with good music, this is the place to be in the evening. It is close to the "end" of their downtown area but it's extremely safe and open into the late hours of the night! Really loved it. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Delicious food with a beautiful rooftop terrace dining area. They have a respectable beer and tequila selection. Fun location in Old Town San Luis.

It was a warm day and I stayed indoors to chill a bit and also change my phone. But I quite regret it because I lost the nine view on upper level and the super loud music was not pleasant. I ordered a steak which tasted good but so tough to my middle age teeth that I had to return to regrill! Chefs recommended to chop it to pieces which was to me. I wish I knew the name of my friendly waiter. Nice gentleman.

I love coming here when I visit SAN LUIS POTOSÍ! The enchiladas Potosínas were well cooked and delicious. It was my first time trying tapas. They were awesome! I would definitely go back and eat again. I also tried their Sangria, margaritas, and Palomas and it was yummy. They have 2 terezas (rooftop 2 floors). I took an Uber there because there's not a lot of parking available. The environment is super chill and great to have a drink and food with friends. Music is low enough to have a conversation. I'll be back soon!

I stopped in here during a Chivas (Guadalajara) vs. Tigras Liga MX game and found the lower bar area full (not really "packed" because they didn't allow standing only and they don't have too many bar stools). The manager found me a table on their covered terrace which has a smaller bar, and was fairly empty. This too is a renovated house with little dining areas tucked into what used to be rooms and alcoves. There's plenty of rustic charm to go around. The tacos I got were traditional and just alright, there was little imagination put into the taco salsas, and the oddly creamy guacamole that I would immediately pan had it been served in a U.S. restaurant. Their craft-brew selection is fairly extensive. I chose a local Mexican brew, and it was fine but rather too sweet for my liking. I wish they had a tasting option (they don't) or a flight option to be able to sample. The serving temperature is usually not ice-cold but cold enough to my liking. Lots of cute, young Potosinas speaking English hanging out here. I would also try the Mezcaleria at the bottom of the street heading towards the cultural center, if you are visiting during the weekend, because it is a scene.

I love San Luis, Petosí!! La Oruga is my absolute favorite spot in San Luis and is located in old downtown on the corner of Vincente Guerrero and Calle Independencia!The establishment is very nice, well kept, friendly staff, good music, and the food is unbelievable. There is sometimes a wait, and, of course, a language barrier, but they'll work with you and are patient. The tacos Villamelón are amazing as are the arrechera-you can't go wrong. Make sure you sit in the rooftop, the scenery is gorgeous, and the roof is retractable. They also make a good michelada and the tequila is well priced if you're thirsty! There are tons of shops and beautiful old churches and architecture all around, so it is a very romantic spot to take your significant other and it is a safe city, so don't you fret, just get!

This place has a shaded rooftop patio with a view. On top of having delicious food, quality beer from the local micro breweries the service here is excellent. Our waitress Vero was very knowledgeable, attentive and kind. I'd recommend going here.

Walked in on a Sunday night, requested to sit on their roof and were seated right away. Excellent ambiance and rooftop. Waited around 10 minutes for our server to arrive. We ordered all our food and drinks at the same time. I was given the incorrect drink, which was returned, received the 2nd drink and it was also incorrect. I just let it go. Dining partner ordered the burger, he said it was fine. I ordered the tacos de cochinita pibil. The tortillas were double-stacked and dry and not fresh. The pork was DRY. I can't emphasize this enough. Good portion size, though. After the general disappointment of the meal, my dining partner shared the feedback with the manager after he approached the table. He did an excellent job trying to recover the table. He explained I was visiting San Luis for the first time and this wasn't a good representation of Mexican food. The manager took away the incorrect drink and tried to pour the correct one. Still wrong. He also brought out another order of tacos, but I wasn't hungry at that point. He removed the tacos from the bill. Great ambiance. Great manager. Not great food.

My favourite spot in San Luis Potosí. Nicely located downtown with a roof top patio that has a nice view. Very vibrant place with good local craft beer and interesting food with a twist. I had the pizza with Serrano ham and the Judas IPA. Very cool place with a cool crowd.

Nice location, live music, very good Mexican food and a very friendly staff. Sitting on the rooftop is highly recommended. Choose your favorite beer from a huge list including German Weißbier:-) and after dinner there are many locations around for having your nightcap...

Great food, great beer, and a great atmosphere. Sitting on the upstairs patio is a must. Pizza and Mexican food are both great.

La Oruga I took out our company's customer service team to this absolutely fine place. Great food, great beers and great service from the lovely, Anai. Located in the charming historical center near the cathedral, it offers heated rooftop seating and live acoustic music. Great for parties, couples, business and pleasure.

Great spot, great ambiance, great food and drink! Every time I go here it's always going on and the service is really good. And the scenery at night is spectacular. I love trying their craft beers from local breweries which really blew my mind. And the food does not disappoint! Especially the burgers. I'm looking forward to visiting again when I go this August!

Superb restaurant with great food. Music on Friday thru Sunday. Our waiter Angel is awesome. The food and drinks are very good. Upstairs is a little small but if you are fortunate to get a table and the weather is just right with a full moon as we had last night the memories are unforgettable. Thank you Angel.

Great food and service. This was our first stop in town because we arrived so late. Honestly was disappointed we had to come here because I was craving authentic hole in the wall Mexican food. To my surprise the food was amazing and the service was equal. Highly recommend.

Best beer I've found in SLP! There food is great and reasonably priced. We had a couple kinds of pizza, fish and chips, and a salad and everything was great! Our waiter spoke English too which was appreciated!
