While spending New Years in Cancún, I wanted to take my man on a nice, romantic date at a local spot, and after a bit of searching and review reading, I found this place. I wasn't sure it was still open due to the lack of Yelp reviews, but there were other recent reviews that eased my mind. Most were excellent, but some complained of quality. We tried anyway.
This place is definitely off the beaten path as stated by others, but it really wasn't too hard to find. I knew that it sat behind a hotel and not on the street. So, we walked down Quetzal from Boulevard Kukulcán and found Hotel Imperial Laguna, which was the closest one. After walking inside, we spotted the sign to the left for the restaurant and headed out back. We walked through the garden toward the lagoon, and it popped up like magic. It was super small and right on the dock with string lights hung above. What a gorgeous setting!
For some reason, there was a miscommunication between OpenTable and the restaurant. So, we didn't have a reservation for NYE, but the manager , Alex, accommodated us and quickly got us set up with a table right on the dock.
Bread and some sort of spread quickly arrived. The spread was a mayonnaise based paste with parsley and garlic, which was definite BOMB! We had two baskets and almost a third since it was so addictive. For the NYE set menu, we started with asparagus topped with ham and cheese. This was quickly devoured as it was so tasty. The asparagus was cooked to perfection as it was soft but with a little bite and a very rich sauce to boot. For the second course, I had the beef filet with cilantro mashed potatoes. Beef was cooked to order and did not disappoint with its juicy, succulent flavor, and the potatoes were rich with a slight citrusy flavor. He had the salmon covered in fennel cream sauce and couscous. I'm not a huge fan of salmon, but his was delicious, and the sauce really made it. Both entrees were served with mixed veggies that were a perfect compliment. For dessert, they served us chocolate cake with raspberry syrup.
Overall, the setting was super romantic, food was outstanding, and we were so thankful that Alex was able to accommodate us on such a busy evening. Definitely worth a return visit!
