This was my most memorable meal on Capri, and perhaps for my entire honeymoon in Italy. If you're looking for cuisine inspired by classic Caprese and Neapolitan traditions, this is the spot.
La Palette is definitely a bit of an uphill walk outside the village center, but it is 100% worth it. Not only are you getting away from the crowds, but you feel like you're being welcomed into a neighborhood restaurant, one with an exquisite view and excellent food!
The restaurant's owner was our waiter this evening. He was very friendly and engaging, thrilled to have a conversation with customers who were genuinely interested in his restaurant and cuisine.
The meal began with an amuse bouche. My description won't do it justice, but it was an encrusted mushroom atop herbed chopped tomatoes. It did exactly what an amuse bouche should do: make the diners excited for the meal to come.
My wife and I typically opt to share dishes, so that we can taste a broader spectrum of what the restaurant has to offer. Without us asking or expecting it, La Palette generously split each dish into half-plates.
Speaking of plating, La Palette takes its art themes seriously, especially when it comes to beautiful plating and presentation. Each menu item was more beautiful than the last.
I also must mention the outstanding bread basket here. In a country known for great bread, this basket was outstanding. We didn't spare a crumb.
As for what to order, I truly believe you cannot go wrong with any of their dishes. Fish? Excellent. Pasta? Excellent. If you want something quintessentially Neapolitan, get their Sartu di Riso (rice timbale). Wow, it was good.
On an island where some restaurants don't try hard because it's a popular tourist spot, it can be challenging to find a truly memorable meal. Take a hike to La Palette and you'll find it.
