USA Road Trip: A Suggested Cross-Country Itinerary for 2025

"Truth or Consequences (T or C) is built over hot mineral springs and is ideal for wellness tourism and spa relaxation, and I liked the idea of combining hot-spring time with exploring nearby ghost towns like Winston and Chloride." - Matthew Kepnes

I don't even know how many stars to give this place. The website has zero availability through November, which is as far as their calendar will go, and I am 99.9% sure they are not fully booked for the next 7 months. When asked if they have rooms available, they responded only with "the website is up to date and accurate." What does that mean? Are you booking rooms - or not? I loved this place pre pandemic and was excited to see the website back up recently, but let down again as it seems they are not actually operating.

This is the fourth visit for my daughter and I. We've been coming for years. After a number of reschedules, we arrived in a very warm October. We weren't certain how soaking in hot waters would feel with the outside temps in the low nineties. However, once immersed, the experience of the soothing water takes over and when emerging, the air feels comfortably cool. We enjoyed a larger room this time which was lovely. One of the things that strikes me every time I visit is the love and pride that is evident here. There are treasures of art nestled everywhere, some obvious, some happy surprises. The staff is cheery and helpful , brimming with good information about this special place. A new thing I learned is its venerable history; one bathhouse was created in 1924 (Happy Centenary!) and the other 1919! The experience of soaking in the naturally arising waters is superior to that of tubs being filled and drained. I look forward to returning

Google
The website shows no availability for the entire year. The folks that refused to answer the phone or return calls will text you back with vague messages containing almost no information. They were super rude and unhelpful. All follow ups for clarifications were rebuffed. This year we went to Sierra Grande instead. Skip the hassle as they are likely closed anyway.

La Paloma is our go to place in Truth or Consequences... there are a few reasons for this. We like the accommodations in the courtyard close to the baths. They are cabin like comfy rooms that we find fit nicely with our needs, great pricing and always clean. The separate baths are another detail we like. The main bath house has a seating area so when you finish soaking you can take time before heading back to your room. The main bath house also has resting beds in the private soaking area, which I really like, so when the heat is enough you can rest on the beds and go back and forth. There are two bath houses so when both are open there are so many choices off which room one prefers. Now the water, we find it incredibly soothing and always notice a difference on our skin and hair after a few soaks. It always makes us feel rejuvenated. Cindy is always upbeat and wanting to make our stay enjoyable... well, we always come back so that says it all!

Like the last review stated. I was trying to book a stay and got a response from a lady named Cindy stating that they are not taking guests, day soakers or spa guests. She gave me the name of Andre Soule a wonderful body worker who we had come to our air bnb ||I was so disappointed to not be able to soak in these healing waters that once had many guests coming around to find healing and peace ||It’s a historical marker and Geronimo would bathe here amongst many others that felt the power of these waters and land. I so wish someone would come and purchase this place and breathe new life into it. Unfortunately the abuse is continuing and I truly hope it stops sooner than later

My out of town family and my self have stayed here several times in deferent rooms. And have also soaked hourly many times. The one and only thing why we kept going back is the natural springs soaks. I've tried calling numerous times since I STILL have a prepaid card with soaks. And no one ever answers. Things have been back to normal for a while now. I would like to be able to soak or get my $ back. I would truly appreciate a response..

I’ve just returned from my second visit to La Paloma and I’m already planning my third. Their pools range from 96° all the way up to 110°. So there are lots of choices all dependent on your preference. The soaking rooms are small and very private so there’s no need for a bathing suit. They also have a massage table in them so you can cool off for a bit and then go back into the lovely tub. I love to watch my arms float in the crystal clear water. And look at all of the lovely rocks and gravel on the bottom. It’s also fun to peek out of the overflow hole. The staff are lovely. I have yet to meet anyone who wasn’t welcoming. I just really enjoy the serene, pleasant atmosphere. Somehow soaking really does take all your cares away and put you in a very calm state of mind. My room-number three-was perfect. Two queen size beds and decent kitchenette. We brought our own breakfast and lunch fixings which was great for snacking around soaks. Don’t make the mistake I did the first time and book for only one night. It’s not long enough. Two was lovely, next time maybe three.

Google
I love this place. My partner and I make a habit of visiting one or twice a year. The fire pits and hammocks are the best. The staff is friendly and the rooms are great. The beds are comfortable. The outdoor spa is nice and rather small and doesn't feel as enchanting but very clean and quiet.

Yelp
Issues with the website and very little communication through phone. When I did get someone they were rude. There are some nice places very nearby. Skip this one.

Yelp
Just spent three nights here and had a great time. We stayed in the cottage, about $200 a night. Rate included natural springs bath time, we did four 30 minute soaks , three days in a row. The water is a godsend, it's fundamentally amazing to do this type of thing in a desert region, during a drought. Respect. It was easy to text message staff and schedule times, I think first time available was 7am, last at 930 or 10pm. The water does not have sulphur content, so no obvious smell. Water is Still noticeably more buoyant due to other mineral content, of which there are more than a dozen. 3 baths were open, and their individual temps varied from about 100 to 106 each day we were there. The pools are filled from the spring below, so there is no artificial temperature control, just whatever the weather brings. I used the fridge with $.50 bottled water alot , honor system jar payment. Cell reception was really good (att) , I didn't even try the wifi. But who plays on their phone ,really ,when you just want to relax? Would totally come back sometime.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. Second attempt to stay here and both times staff was prejudice, unfriendly, and despite a sign that says family friendly it's an absolute lie. Dont think about it, if you have kids younger than 7. I do not enjoy waiting for 6 minutes whole you attend to a phone call without even a I'll be right with you. I think your staff should undergo diversity training as well as customer service courses. This is a BIG NO for us.

Yelp
The "Truth" about La Paloma is that it is everything it's billed to be and more and the "Consequences" are that you will leave with plans to come back sooner rather than later. The staff and management went out of their way to see to my needs but we're not intrusive as this is a place to move slow and let the waters work their magic. Don't miss Andre, the masseur, for my money the best in his field and I am a fan of massages. Stay up late, take a soak then sit outside and take in the view of stars so bright and clear you'll need sunglasses! Thank you La Paloma

Yelp
This is my favorite place on earth! The water flows into each pool from underground, never touched by plumbing nor heater - it is wonderful. Locals soak here- it isn't all bells and whistles because it's all about the water. Pure magic. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly- they are great resources to teach you about the special properties of the water. Soaks are very affordable there and so are the accommodations if you need them.

Yelp
Fantastic place for a getaway!! We enjoyed every moment from the welcome to the goodbye!! Loved the private pools! Super clean and peaceful place!! Thank you Briqn and Kat

Yelp
An inclusive hot springs with amenities for the budget of everyday people. We valued the quiet focus on the healing waters. We decided at the last minute to stay in a room. The bed was comfortable. The rooms are clean. We recommend the staff bring in electric tea kettles over the microwaves, especially with their belief in living water-not consistent with radiation. The massage therapist,Andre Soele had over 30 years of experience in multiple holistic modalities. So highly skilled! We appreciated the courtyard and chairs to take in the sun! It was also quiet and well maintained. There was only one seeing eye dog on the premise during our stay.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I initially wanted to stay for two days, but you'll fall in love with this quaint little place! It is a hole in the wall place, but the two bath houses, along with the outdoor tubs, will lull you to want to stay longer and return time and again. I tried to extend at the end of my stay, but was only able to extend for one more day; the place is really super booked. There is also plenty to see within walking distance. I enjoyed both Latitude 33 and the Brewery. It's my second time at La Paloma and my second trip to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. I just left a week ago, but already planning my next stay. I'll book here for a month while I find me a place to live. I'm semi-retired and I can think of only one other place that I want to live, and the other place is the Azores. I'll vacation there while I call Truth or Consequences home. While visiting, make sure and check out Elephant Butte.

Yelp
Fabulous opportunity to stop off for a refreshing hot mineral springs soak to finish off a most magical holiday! LaPaloma is well maintained with a wonderful vintage feel. Staff is extremely helpful, resourceful, and friendly. Community quiet areas are conducive to slowly re-enter the "other world" as your spirit still slumbers in the comfort of the hot springs. I've tried other hot springs in the area but LaPaloma has a welcoming magnetic aura that keeps me coming back every chance I get!

Yelp
The worst place ever. The "water closet" in our room was too small for a person over 5 feet tall to sit in. The only mirror in the room was 9 inches square. This place is no where near compliant with any building code. Overall the facility is old and run down. It is definitely over priced at $107. And the Wi-Fi is terrible, it is unusable.

Yelp
I came here around 8pm tonight (Monday). We were passing through as part of our road trip and wanted to check out a hot spring. At first, we weren't sure what to expect, but upon arriving, we couldn't be more excited. There was an older man working in the office. SWEETEST PERSON EVER. It was refreshing to meet such a sweet and caring person after a long day of hiking and driving across states. He explained everything to us since we had no idea what we were doing. We brought our own towels, sat in room #2 (pictures shown) and relaxed. Since the room/water was 112.5°F, he recommended that we not soak longer than 10 minutes at a time, so we spent 10 minutes soaking, 10 minutes laying out, and 10 more minutes soaking. For 30 minutes, it was $6. You can do a full hour for $10. You can rent a towel for an additional $1. This nice man also showed us the other areas in the spring/spa which included a leg roll (?), smaller tubs, etc. There are 2 showers and 2 bathrooms available for personal use. For those that are a bit claustrophobic like me, the bathrooms and showers are fairly small, but is enough to get the jobs done! Plus, the doors do not lock at the handle, but through a hook-style, which made me feel better. Some extra notes: Showering before or after is completely optional. As are your clothes in the springs. Obviously, no soaps, shampoos, etc. in the tubs because there is no filter. Also, I believe it closes at 10pm, so be sure to get there about an hour before! On top of that, there is a spa kitty! A big, black cat roams around, minding his own business, but is very sweet if you approach him. I think he knows he has to watch over the place (: After soaking and showering, I went into the main office to check out the goodies they had for sale. There are natural deodorants, soaps made from milk, incense, books, essential oils, and much more! Since my dad loves the smell of calming incense, I bought him a large sage bundle for $6.50 and a piece of Palo Santo Wood for $3. He picked the largest ones for me, which is sweet, but completely unnecesssry! He already did so much for us! A bathroom, shower, and soak for $6? Gifts for under $10? I think I could live here! Highly recommended! Great customer service, awesome people, calming environment!

Yelp
Never had any issues any other time I've gone here until this last weekend. Woman staffing the long house was very rude several times to my mom and made it very apparent she didn't like us. The water wasn't very warm this year, which was disappointing. The room itself was nice, but I think there should be an update in the WiFi (supper spotty).

Yelp
This is a cute little spa. The rooms are cheap, about $65-85 a night. My room was the Wisdom room, which was the only pet friendly one available. Pet rent is $10. It's small with a kitchenette and small bathroom. The showers are in a separate building. As far as the mineral baths they are simple. Concrete rooms with tables you can lay out on. Some are more shallow while others are larger. I wish room 1 had a bench to sit on while in the water. The temp of the waters changes throughout the day. I can honestly only stand the water for about 10-15 minutes then like to lay out on the tables and breathe in the moisture. There is another building next door. La Paloma Too which is a little nicer with tiled floors and such, but draws from the same waters and is only open until 11. You get access to both areas if you stay the night here. The staff are pretty nice. Very laid back. Remember to bring cash if you get a massage. They didn't tell us this when we booked. I figured it would be a room charge like most modern spas. Thankfully we scraped some cash together so we didn't have to run to an ATM. All and all I'll probably stop in again next time I am down this way. It's a bit far for a day trip from ABQ, but worth an over nighter if you can split the cost with a friend.

Yelp
Oh my goodness-this place is another gem in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. I didn't stay here but did visit for a delightful one hour soak in private room #1, which is an indoor natural hot spring hot tub, lined with pebbles, and has no sulfur odor. The lights are dimmable and it is almost otherworldly to soak in darkness. A lovely lady with lavender hair and clothing checked me in, rented me a lavender towel for $1, and I proceeded to soak and rest on the lounge chair in total peace and quiet. It is only $10 to soak for an hour! They have several private rooms for rent and they are open pretty late. I soaked from 9:15-10:15 pm on a Sunday night. I felt amazing afterward. I will definately be back to soak at La Paloma. They also have a huge outdoor communal tub, which I'll have to check out next time.

Yelp
I've stayed here three or four separate times. I really want to like it: the tubs are open 24 hours, the people are friendly, and the rooms are simple and rustic, which is mostly fine by me. I don't require swank. But it's not good value, and there are details that matter: I paid $82/night (before taxes) for a small room with kitchenette. The water closet is TINY, and must have been designed by those who design airplane seats. The doorway clearance is, I think, less than 6', and I am 6'4". If I sit on the toilet, there is not enough legroom in front of me, so I have to sit side saddle. If the room was $45/night, this would be quaint. Tonight, I locked my key in the room, which was a surprise, because I'd found the door so difficult to lock earlier. This time I just tugged it shut and - voila! - it was locked. Fortunately (or not) I had other keys with me, one of which was able to unlock the door. So much for any sense of security: a nail file or Swiss Army knife would probably have done the trick, too. The place is well-groomed, the tubs well-maintained, the rooms clean, the beds comfy. (Watch out for when the concrete is wet: you can slip, and the landing would be unpleasant.) Would love to give these folks a glowing review. But the details above matter, and the price feels inflated. Will check out other options next time I'm in town.

Yelp
From last year to this year something has gone wrong. Nobody is taking care of the place. Our casita did not have hot water and things were dirty. One person in our group walked barefoot from the living room to the bathroom and her feet were black. Surfaces and dishes in the kitchen were sticky when we arrived. The to did not flush (this was fixed for us). Love the soaking tubs but have made lodging reservations elsewhere for next year's trip.

Yelp
I have been going to La Paloma for twenty years. I've been there with family, have taken plenty of friends there, and have even stayed as an invited guest and performer. I used to love this place and have always considered it my favorite place to dip in T or C. However my last visit with my wife on her birthday was a big disappointment and changed everything. We were greeted with head-to-toe stares and snappy attitudes. Our dip was interrupted at 40 minutes forcing us to take a break when we requested an hour. On our way out we were told that we owed them extra money for taking extra time. We were charged a total of 24$ (two people) when the website clearly states that it's 10$ per person per hour. WTF?

Yelp
Marilyn made our experience very memorable. First time we are impressed and relaxed! 30 min max for kids in and out 5 mins at a time and adults an hour max! Loved it! #relaxedmama #relaxedson

Yelp
If customer service is important; I don't recommend this place. Tried to sign up for message service and it was to big of a hassle for them to even try since that service is a third party provider; they simple stated we should have done that upon making our reservations; which we would have they mentioned it. We were late 40-minutes in checking out and charged an additional $25; seems greedy since check in is at 3:00pm; but technically we were late as house keeping was there at 11:02am.

Yelp
I love La Paloma. My husband and I have shared many amazing soaks here. The private rooms are well worth the cost and to be honest, the entire experience is worth its weight in gold. I love the rules about whispering, the entire space is so meditative. I always suggest La Paloma and love the authenticity of the original baths from the 1920s. The energy and aura around La Paloma are warm and golden. It is a place of relaxation and maybe just a little magic. I cannot wait to return as soon as possible! Until next time xoxo

Yelp
T or C is such a unique town. It's one of my favorites state-wide, particularly due to what I consider its potential role as a luxury hub for the Spaceport (ooh, the Spaceport). And I say Potential because at the moment the town is a sleepy old western drifter which happens to boast some of the most ballsy, scent-free and mineral-rich therapeutic natural hot springs in the country. You'll find plenty of the stuff at La Paloma, which is one of only two locales in the city that sit directly on the source of the springs, meaning a soak delivers the chronic: pools and spas that measure between 106-112 degrees. No, they do not allow children under seven years of age in these because yes, the water can actually scald skin. You know how you can sit in a hot tub for, say, a half hour and eventually find yourself saying Oh Yeah, I'm officially cooked? Here, that happens in 30 seconds. I'll briefly mention lodging, but then I want to get back to the water. The rooms were designed and built by the engineers of the Elephant Butte reservoir back in 1910ish. Back then, Americans simply didn't occupy as much space in the world, and these rooms reflect it. They're charming and wonky and will do just fine if you don't mind a little coziness, and you'll likely be surrounded by people who aren't really into the whole clothing movement (many of them international travelers seeking natural healing). Really, a lot of the lodgers just sit out in the courtyard, basking in the incredible dry climate, many of them late into the night. It's cool, I liked it, reminded me a little of Raising Arizona. But the water, again. So there's one building with private soaking rooms for just two people, you'll sign in and estimate how long you'll tolerate your scalding experience; and then there's The Longroom, another soaking facility which accommodates larger groups. Finally, we also checked out the barn, which is basically a hot pool, very European. I want to say those waters were easily 108 degrees. I would definitely consider returning to this place. For the most part, T or C is a luxury town for small budgets: decent food, great enmities, relaxed vibe. La Paloma represents beautifully.

Yelp
La Paloma is a former motor court of the type you'd find on old Route 66. The parking area has been converted to a plaza, which is nice because cars aren't parked outside the doors. The rooms are being updated, and their website provides accurate photos and descriptions of what each room offers. At this point, they vary quite a bit. The management is very accomodating and if space is available, they'll gladly move you to a different room if it turns out you don't like the one you picked. I chose Awakening, one of the "economy" rooms. It was only $55, was larger than a typical motel room and while it had a kitchenette/dinette, it had only a half bath (toilet but no shower/tub.) There was a public shower for my use, and for the $20 daily savings over a regular room, that was perfect for me. The environment is quiet, like being on a retreat. There are TVs in the rooms but I rarely heard one on. Guests padded from their rooms over to the pools in the comfy warm robes. I was there 4 nights with different people coming and going, and it seemed to attract quiet people, of which I am one. Though of course I cannot guarantee this. In short, the atmosphere is very casual and laid back. With 5 pools there was never any waiting, unless someone became attached to a specific pool. I encourage you not to do that: try them all, because you might be pleasantly surprised as I was when I discovered that the cooler and smaller 95 degree pool was my favorite! This place is a work in progress. It is not a new facility and doesn't look like one, but you can tell it is being lovingly renovated. If you need a "finished" product you might look at the Blackstone, which is another old restored motor court. It's more expensive, but also more lavish. However, I MUCH preferred the soaking arrangement at La Paloma. At the Blackstone, you can soak in an oversized bath tub in your room, or in the one public tub, but you draw the water like a bath, and while you ARE getting the mineral hot water, the disadvantage to that is the water cools down as you're sitting in it, which to me is no advantage over taking a bath at home and dumping in some salts. You can also pay $25 extra and use their "wet room" for an hour. That wouldn't have been flexible enough for me. The Riverfront has nicely decorated rooms in converted mobile homes. Their pools, basically hot tubs, are outside, some are covered for wind/sun/snow(rare!) protection. It's a beautiful setting, right on the Rio Grande. But to me the place had more of a party feel to it. The pools included with your room are public, so you're sharing the tub with other guest simultaneously (meaning no nudity) and you pay extra if you want a private pool, which is still outside along the river, but with partitions. There was rock music blasting in the lobby of The Charles, the rooms face busy Broadway street and you still park right in front of the doors. Soaking privileges were not as generous or flexible. This would be a good choice though for somebody who doesn't want a quiet, meditative environment. The Sierra Grande is lovely and expensive, you get one soak included with your room price and everything you do there looks to be an extra charge. It is for somebody looking for the stereotypical lavish spa experience as opposed to a quiet friendly, more naturalistic retreat.

Yelp
This is in no way a fancy spa but for the price you pay you get a lot... we paid $100 for a delux room which was very clean, had a kitchen and all the other basics... this gave us 24hour free access to the bathhouse... the baths are private so you just put your name down and you're the only one there. The baths are old but clean and different temperatures and overall very relaxing. the staff was nice, albeit a bit disorganized. I got a massage with Tina and my friend got one with Ova... Tina wasn't the friendliest and kind of just wanted to get the job over with but my friend loved the lomi lomi with Ova. Masseuses take cash only. Overall I'll finback again for a cheap relaxing weekend

Yelp
La Paloma was a funky and eclectic place. The staff was friendly. Check in is at 3:00 pm, so we booked a couples massage at 11:00 am and planned to wander the town afterwards. We arrived at 10:45 am for the hour long couples massage. We waited until 11:15 am, waiting on one of the massage therapists to show up, she never did, so we ended up getting 30 minute massages from the therapist that was there. We wandered until 2:45 pm, and headed back, hoping the room was ready early. The room was not ready, and we were told it would be 30 minutes, the 30 minutes turned into an hour and a half wait. The room was finally ready at 4:15 pm. The room was clean and comfortable, we stayed in the Serenity. Their hot springs are spacious and private. The young man that helped us, was very friendly and knowledgable.

Yelp
The staff is polite, inthusiastic, helpful and informative. My husband & I were on the road looling to soak some old off our bones. Yes, so worth every $. The place is "historic". Hope they keep it this way for as long they can. Had to add an extra night.

Yelp
Love the outside, white and blue and clean. Very peaceful. Well-maintained landscape and springs. The rooms are clean but loose a star due to noisey heater. Staff is always friendly too! Be aware that the bathrooms are tiny, if you're a bigger American you might struggle.

Yelp
Great spa, 1 of only 2 with living water in town. My favorite place to go for a soak. The prices can't be beat, $7.00/half hour. The private tubs are great.
google avatar

S P.

Yelp
This place is pretty low key, the guy at the office was super chill. The gift shop was cool. The whole place is not what most would consider luxurious but we really liked the vibe there. The tubs were great. They didn't mind our kids being there which was a big plus for us. As long as they don't cause a ruckus and can be quiet it seems all good. We enjoyed our soak very much and wish we could return again and again! If we only lived closer..very affordable!!!

Yelp
This review is solely for the hot springs baths that you can rent here by the hour or half hour. They also have a hotel here but I have yet to stay here. When you drive up you feel like you are going back in time. The hotel seems well kept but has an older vibe to it from another time. I kinda like it. Ok now on to the baths. I've stopped here several times on my way down to las cruces. I love that you can just drop in and get a private bath for the half hour or hour for super cheap prices. All of their tubs are indoors so in the summer that can be a down side since you could easily over heat. They also have tubs that are different temps so you can pick what temp you want as long as they are not booked. This isn't what I would call super fancy but its clean and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. I really enjoy getting quick soaks here in the mineral baths. I always leave feeling refreshed. There are alot of other hot springs to choose from in the area but if you are short on time and just looking for a nice relaxing soak I would recommend this place!

Yelp
La Paloma is a motel and hot spring bath house. It's located in the old down town area of T or C, where much of the construction dates back to the 1930's. The motel isn't much to write home about, but the owners make a real effort to keep the place clean and comfortable. I've stayed here a couple of times while in town for yoga retreats and gotten friendly service both times. The real attraction here are the baths. There are 5 private rooms with baths at various tempertures (ranging from 102 to 107 degrees when I was there most recently) The three larger pools have room for 4-5 people, while the two smaller (and usually lower temperature) baths are good for a couple. Motel guests can soak as often and for as long as they'd like. This is not in the style of more modern bath houses with larger communal baths, outdoor views, etc. However, the water's great!

Yelp
The price is right and the hot spring bath house was exactly what I was hoping for - cozy, calming, and quiet! The double occupancy private baths had some lounge tables for taking a break from the heat, and the open space and calm colors of the public area were very inviting. I enjoyed my acupressure appointment with Ova. Those thirty minutes were just enough to get me feeling loosened and and centered. I can't wait to get back!

Yelp
If you're looking for an out of the way spa to stay the night and soak in the natural hot springs, you should consider La Paloma. The motel is old, but they've worked hard to make the rooms comfortable and quaint. After a long soak in the hot springs, I can't remember getting a better night's sleep.

Yelp
Personally my one of my go to hot baths, open later than most 10 in the main and 11 sometimes in La Paloma Two. Relax alone or bring a friend only ever spend 20$ in there for two people and a whole hour which is more than enough time for me. Super friendly staff every time we go and super quiet and cute.

Yelp
This hotel and spa has seen much better days. For the price ($107/nite), it left much to be desired. Our room was very small and the bathroom was more like a closet than a room (see picture). There was no working wi-fi available in our room. We had mosquitos buzzing around us when we were in it. There was a very small mirror high on the wall which I was able to bring down and prop against a wall for us to crowd around for shaving + make up. The nightly room price would have been more appropriate at $50. Staying here has been a real adventure, one we will not wish to repeat!

Yelp
This is a two star motel in a dumpy area with a hot spring running through one end. Clean and ok though. I gave the extra star for the hot tub area. The hot tub is a public area that looks Like it was built in 1920.

Yelp
This place is a great, quick stopover on the drive between Las Cruces and Albuquerque. I happened upon there determined to find a massage with no notice and landed at La Paloma. The place is simple and extremely clean -- with 5 indoor private tub areas. I was able to soak in a private bath at 107 degrees for half an hour for only $4 (with towel), and got an awesome massage by a French guy named Andre. He has been there more than 20 years for a reason: he alone is reason to stop off the highway. Very deep tissue/myofascial/almost chiropractic at times, but very soothing. I highly recommend his massage (and he's the rare therapist who goes glutes and abs, if you so desire). Awesome way to spend a beautiful New Mexico spring afternoon!

Yelp
This place is the definition of funky, but in a good way! Reasonably priced rooms and lots of soaking time included. Thoughtful and helpful service found us a pool for our entire family and a pair of lost earrings. Nice outside courtyard. The toilet fits one, barely.

Yelp
I've never stayed overnight but have made several day trips to La Paloma to enjoy the private soaking tubs. Staff is always friendly and prices are very reasonable. The soaking areas are always clean and love the fact that the springs naturally flow through the property and are not pumped in. Prices are super reasonable. $10 for a one hour soak. Can't beat it.

Yelp
La Paloma exceeded my expectations. Being one of the few naturally flowing hot springs in Truth or Consequences, it was a real pleasure visiting here. I've been twice to La Paloma, once being over Easter weekend and it was both great. My group of 7 went in the larger tub which was 101 degrees (perfect!) and didn't have many issues. The springs itself was great-- perfect size, perfect temperature. The customer service was a little iffy. The man was overwhelmed, but he just wasn't handling himself all too professionally (but I do think it was just a bad day). Oh! And for 6 bucks for a half hour, you can't beat it!

Yelp
We stayed at another nearby hotel, but ended up walking over to La Paloma twice during our stay to soak. I like their set-up - private soaking rooms with free flowing waist deep (or in my petite case, chest deep) spring water and natural river rocks. Also enjoyed the big comfy courtyard with lounge chairs and hammocks. The staff was really friendly and helpful too. The place is not fancy, but it's cute and it's thoughtfully arranged, clean, and well cared for.

Yelp
La Paloma is not just a place to stay, it's a full retreat. Charming hot spring rooms (open all day and night), a peaceful garden with hammocks, raked stones, and plants, and exceptional staff. It is evident that a lot of love has gone into the design and upkeep of this place. I have visited several times this year while traveling and stayed in various rooms, all of which have their own character and strengths. Come here with someone you love or as a gift to yourself, and please give your gratitude to the staff who provide these amenities at such an affordable cost.

Yelp
Charming and comfortable. Super friendly staff. The environment is quiet and intended for healing. Affordable with simple , no-nonsense accommodations. My family loves the bathhouse and people staying overnight have 24-hour access to the water. We look forward to returning in the fall.

Yelp
This location was wonderful. The spa was clean and well-maintained for being an established place. The attendant was very helpful and patient. I had never been to a hot springs before, and everything was explained to me very well. I was provided many options of services, as well a tour of the facilities. Bathing in the hot springs was refreshing and relaxing, and it was an excellent place to stop in between Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Not only that, but I accidentally left my bathing suit behind, and they immediately mailed it to me. I would certainly recommend others to check out the spa and enjoy a soak in the natural hot springs!

Yelp
I have been coming to La Paloma since I was a kid (I am 41 years old). It is by far my favorite place to stay in T or C because it is clean, the staff is friendly, it is well priced, the pools are AMAZING and it is close to great food and shops. La Paloma has massage on site, areas to meditate, a BBQ pit and lots of chairs to lounge in the sun. It is pretty holistic/spiritual and I was told that the Native Americans used to use the exact hot springs where the motel currently resides. Here is why I gave La Paloma 3 Stars as opposed to 5 Stars: smoking. The motel allows smoking in the common area and even encourages it with ash trays under the shaded area. I was meditating when all of a sudden these two women lit up and started smoking. It was disgusting and disheartening because although La Paloma can me very spiritual and peaceful smoking is not a problem on the property. People smoking transforms it from a respectable and wonderful place to relax one's mind, body and soul to a somewhat trashy motel. I smoked for 20 years so I am not just complaining to complain. I don't care if people smoke but I think it has its place and maybe spiritually charged and meditative grounds are not it.

Yelp
We stayed in the Oracle room. It is very small, it is all one room, with a phone booth sized toilet area with a door and the tub/shower right in the room. There isn't any place to put your things, so you won't need to unpack. We were given a tour of the place when we checked in, Pizza Hut delivers there and there are a few restaurants within walking distance. There isn't daily room service, but you can ask for things you need, for example, we forgot a hair dryer and they brought one over. The only bad thing was that we wanted to check out at noon instead of 11:00 to have one more soak, but they are very inflexible about this. If you check out after 11:00, you will be charged $25 and this will buy you until 1:00 pm. I've never heard of a hotel not allowing one hour's late checkout upon request without charging, and I have traveled a lot. I had a massage and a facial. The massage therapist, Andre, created a knot in one of my back muscles which I had to go to another massage therapist to have worked out later. The facialist, Sheila, was okay, but instead of leaving right after so I could finally sit up and get dressed, she just chatted away as she packed up her things. In my opinion, she should have done this on her own time after I dressed and paid.

Yelp
had a wonderful soak before an excellent massage with Andres. highly recommend! i will definitely be back here for the private tubs and valuable bodywork. thanks!

Yelp
i am handicapped, and have to use a cane since my stroke two years ago. it is always dicey navigating thw walkways and stairs at lapaloma since they claim that being grandfathered in as an old spa means they don;t have to provide handrails or other basic safety features. still. i would use their outdoor long house because it is much more handicapped accessible. but when i recently visited at night with a friend, a vet who is deaf to use the indoor soaking rooms we were so badly treated i felt that i have to let other people know. we were forcibly kicked out because we did not whisper--and my belongings were left behind. the attende did not provide any assistance, was incredibly rude and nasty and treated us like terrorists threatening to call the police. i am 73, 5 feet tall and weigh 120 pounds, plus walk slowly with a cane my 70 year old companion who served three tours in vietnam was absolutely shocked at the way we were both treated. this place gets a big zero rating for courtesy and lack of basic amenties. floors in shower are slippery and dangerous, ventilation in the soaking rooms is poor and someone died there not long ago. last august i stayed in one of the suites overnuight--you could not sit normally on the toilet--no leg room.plus the glass shower was in the middle of the room--really weird.

Yelp
I loved that all of the tubs are private and that there is no time limit to your soaks if you are staying in one of the rooms! Stayed in room #7, no complaints!
