Stayed here for a night. Picked this hotel for location, price, and the nice sitting area outside. There were plenty of people here at the time I was here. I almost felt like asking their opinion. What can you expect when you stay?
Upon check in. There was one person at desk all day, the same person. He was nice. Took care of business, not there to entertain my conversation. Don't forget to pick up your coffee maker, and ice. They also have regular room keys. Doors have a dead bolt, and door knob lock. If you like heat at night, and its going to be cold, make sure you try the heater before night time. Had to call front desk to light pilot light for heater. There are window units that work just fine for cooling/ fan circulation only. No heat.
The first thing I noticed when I went in room was the very heavy smell of air freshner or disinfectant. Had to open door and window to air things out, smell never really went away.
I asked for a room with a tub. I did not use the tub. Opted for just a shower. There was old non slip strips in the tub. Some had been removed but not very well, leaving old glue marks, the drain was kinda rusty looking. The bathroom has been updated a little with tile around the tub/shower wall, sink, and shower curtain. There is only a light in the bathroom, no heat lamp or fan. Water pressure was good.
The bed, and two pillows were comfortable. The frig in room when it cycles makes a hum so, I had to unplug it at night.
A couple more things to note. My room, was on the bottom floor. Most important, for the light sleeper. Don't stay on bottom floor. Luckily who ever stayed above me went to bed at a decent hour. But, at night when it is all quiet, or should be all quiet . . . should folks above you be up late or possibly have to walk a baby across the floor at night. The floor does creak.
There are tables and benches outside, a lot of folks sat outside their rooms enjoying the fresh air while their rooms aired out, using their laptops. My cell phone had so so service in the room. Depending where I sat. This hotel is on the edge of town before the drive into Oak Creek. By midday there will be a hugh line of traffic coming back from the creek. It is within walking distance to the main drag of Uptown Shops. Will be a bit of a walk from one end of the 'strip' to the other especially if you are carrying treasures back to your room from shopping.
One fun fact ~ I was not expecting, when I stepped outside my door in the early morning to catch some pictures. I noticed the trash can outside was overturned and all the trash was scattered. I thought it was from dogs or coyotes? No, javelina. There were 5 or 6 that had been in the trash earlier and were just wandering out of the parking lot. I was able to catch a pic of one as he stared back at me. His other friends weren't so brave, and ran off.
In this year of 2012 if you want no frills, quaint, old Sedona feel stay at the La Vista. Not much left of old Sedona, but you can find it here. Within these walls. The highway into town had a fantastic update over the years! Maybe some of the older hotels could do just a bit more.
Would I stay again? Probably not.
